Guantanamo Bay has President Obama Scared

Just add it to the list of his failures--not that I mind on this particular point, but it doesn't hurt to rub it in what a weenie we've got in the White House:

White House officials last week tried to downplay their decision to postpone by six months a key report on what to do with Guantánamo detainees when the facility is shut down. But the delay reflects the daunting political obstacles facing President Obama as he struggles to meet his pledge to close the prison by January. Only a few weeks ago, the White House had considered a grand rollout of its Gitmo plans with a joint appearance on Capitol Hill by Attorney General Eric Holder Jr., Defense Secretary Robert Gates and CENTCOM Cmdr. David Petraeus. But the president's aides concluded that a briefing would likely backfire, diverting attention from health care and giving Republicans fresh ammunition.

"There was no good reason to put it out there and have it attract fire," says a senior administration official who asked not to be identified talking about the internal deliberations. The White House announced last week's report delay in a late-afternoon press briefing that was embargoed until 9 p.m.—late enough to keep the disclosure off the network news and the cable talk shows with the highest ratings.

Most transparent Administration ever?

On his second day in office, the President promised that the detention facility would be closed by January 22, 2010. He was reluctant, however, to close it on his own authority. He wants Congressional cover and Congress hasn't been too helpful with that. Even Democrats, particularly in the House, oppose shutting down our primary overseas detention center and moving the detainees to the U.S.

To be sure, Guantanamo Bay is a military facility. The President can close it and move the detainees as part of his commander-in-chief powers (though things might get sticky if Congress passes a law saying otherwise). President Obama won't do that. He's too afraid. He will--like always--announce a policy and then vote "present", hoping all the while that someone else will do it for him.

The honesty and integrity of the Obama Administration, coupled with the transparency of internal operations will be the standard measure for all future administrations, and is a testament to the dishonesty and lack of integrity of the Bush/Cheney/Halliburton Administration.

All Americans should stand and applaud the Obama machine for their forthrightness in dealing with foreign governments such as Cuba, Venezuela, Honduras, Iran, and Russia.  Never before in the history of our great nation have so few performed so well for the American people.

We will be forever indebted to the Obamaites for Cap & Con, Health Care Reform, Stimulus, Porkulus, and a bevy of other nonsensical spending plans.  In addition, our children and our grand children will also be indebted to this great nation for the rest of their lives.

Thank you America for the opportunity to live and prosper in this great nation.  My family and all previous generations thank you for the pleasure of serving in WWI, WWII, and Vietnam.  We are indeed patriots with our voluntary service, and will from this day forward consider our service as servitude.  Therefore, Obama and the 52% who voted this dweeb into the Presidency of the United States can go fuck themselves.

They will continue to rationalize that they can change that person, it will just take time. Financially, they maxed out their credit cards, coughed up their savings and went without  in order to give to "The One" everytime his minions warned that without their financial contributions, the cause was lost (ever notice his biggest fundraising pushes came after losses). Like a drunk at a casino, they will keep betting against the house, thinking this is the hand that is going to turn it all around. Finally (hopefully 2010, more likely 2012) they will realize that the dreamy aint gonna lose the bad habits and they will be broke. Then, instead of doing something productive, they'll just walk away, mad, heartbroken and bitter.  By then, however, the damage will have been done and it will be left to the 48% (or, as I like to call them, the adults) to clean this mess up.

Balcer says there will be plenty of intriguing story lines next season, including a multi-episode one regarding Lieutenant Anita Van Buren (played by S. Epatha Merkerson.)

And in true Law & Order tradition, the show will also take on heavily political subject matter. According to Balcer, the first episode will put former Vice President Dick Cheney and the American government's use of torture on trial.

"The Obama administration will come in for some criticism, too," Balcer says. "We're always castigating the Chinese government for burying Tiananmen Square. Well, let's not let the Obama administration do the same thing with torture. We want to get people pissed off."

Call it ambitious, overreaching, ramrodding, or just plan stupid-  Obama's (Rahm's) strategy off trying to do all of these things at one time is starting to backfire big time.

He is finding out that other people may have questions about his policies and may not even like them, so that aren't being enacted as quickly as he imagined.  He is finding out that the changing and chaotic world introduces new problems and situations on a daily basis.

But now he is realizing that they are all politically interconnected and is forced to move to a "one at a time" strategy.  Also, with so many lies to keep track of, some of the truth is begining to slip through.  But it is too late.

By attempting to upset the focus and attention of the American people through all of these initiatives, the administration is the one that has lost its focus and now their initiatives have turned into landmines.

This is a good thing.

86 "But the delay reflects the daunting political obstacles facing President Obama as he struggles to meet his pledge to close the prison by January."

This quote from the article really sums up the problem. He, like Bill Clinton before him, has not grasped that even though "He Won", he is president of all Americans, not just the ones who voted for him. Clinton's "Moscow Campaign" was the 1994 mid-terms. He learned and did not have to have a Waterloo. I do not think Obama can shed his ideology long enough to to avoid his Waterloo in 2012. At this point he is in the early Autumn phase of his Moscow Campaign.

Meanwhile, in the wider world, American foreign policy is beginning very satisfactorily to fill the vacuum left by the Soviet Union. From your link muffy -

What they've neglected to say is that the cuts are retroactive to January 1, 2009. They will be taking the entire ten percent (or in some cases higher percentages) out of the remaining paychecks for the rest of the year. So if Troutman Sanders cuts a first year associate's salary by 10%, they will not be taking 10% off of each individual pay check, but rather taking out the entire $14,500 in just the last ten pay periods. This is the first firm I've heard of to do retroactive cuts like this, and it just seems very disingenuous to present these cuts as only 10%.

In order to be a violation of “contract” you have to have a contract to begin with. Most law firms do not hire associates under a binding “contract”. In addition, they are Category II – exempt (from the Fair Wage and Labor Act) and therefore the employers can do pretty much anything they want.

WaPo "Journalists" Call Palin an "Ignorant, Demagogue and Flake"....

Generations past and present of the Washington Post heaped abuse on Sarah Palin today. Appearing on Morning Joe, Carl Bernstein called Palin "ignorant," a "demagogue" and a "flake."Current WaPo editorialist Jonathan Capehart chimed in to second Bernstein's emotion "100%."

CARL BERNSTEIN: I think there's a fundamental problem in the way we have viewed her perhaps too seriously since she was a candidate, when we should have viewed her seriously.

She's a demagogue.  She's ignorant. She's a flake.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI [whose instinct is to give Palin a fair shake]: Oh boy.

BERNSTEIN: And I think there's a kind of obeisance that the conservative movement has paid to this person.  If a liberal Democrat were to be in a similar position, conservatives would run her out of town, as would sensible Democrats . . .[McCain] committed an almost unpatriotic act in picking Sarah Palin because she's manifestly unqualified for high office ....

JONATHAN CAPEHART: I absolutely agree with Carl, 100%. I've been mystified and fascinated by her rise and her presence on the national stage.

Dyson is the complete racist that seems to think that talking real fast and using lots of polysyllabic words (in and out of context) mixed in with "street" jabber imbues some sort of intellectual sheen upon his fecal filled utterances. It really isn't impressive when one memorizes a couple paragraphs of blather then spews it out in a rush - not exactly indicative of a first rate intellect.

This jabbering dope has a p.h.d. in Religious studies, and now teaches...wait for it... theology, English (?), and ....ta dah, AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES. How very shocking that he'd jump up and down and attack Rush in re: the Gates follies.

If a liberal Democrat were to be in a similar position, conservatives would run her out of town, as would sensible Democrats . . .

I'm not a Palin supporter but really what planet is Carl living on, or maybe I should ask what is he smoking?  If the dems had a female gov, white or black,  with the same background as Palin we'd be hearing endless stories about how  she pulled herself up by her bootstraps, took on the old boy network, and became an extremely  popular governor.(*)

(*) She would however have to be a single mom, pro-choice, or both.

one of the best quotes i have seen yet about "the one" in the press (uk of course, this blashemy is not allowed here just ask frump and Brooksy)

For this is no ordinary presidency, this is the reign on earth of The One: his approval rating was intended to break the mould by rising inexorably to 100 per cent and beyond. The problem about a mega-hype like the Obama scam is that when it goes pear-shaped it will crash and burn like nothing we have seen since that other hot-air powered marvel, the Hindenburg. Here we are, six months into the great adventure and already our hero is in deep doo-doo.

I think she can have a greater impact on politics once she's free from politics. Her down-home folksiness reverberates with more of us than Carl Bernstein does.

@169, I have several republican friends who don't see Palin in the same light.  Granted these people hold office, however they see rough edges. There is a cadre in the r party that still holds on to the template that pedigree, polish, and perception is all that matters.  i think there is some truth to that , however that was more necessary in a society that was not able to learn about the candidates as we can today, as well as have instant information on what is going on- perception was reality then.  today, a new type of perception is necessary to win, - realism, something i think scares many rs because being thought of as a real normal person, holding office, or an elitist cuts to the quick of their pride and sense of i had to struggle to get to where i am after years of polish, party sucking up, sacrifice, being beat down by the dems, now here comes Palin, why is she so special-she did not go to an ivy league school, what does someone from Alaska know? there is nothing special about Palin, she is just like us, and that’s what her detractors don't understand, she is a character foil for them, requiring them to change, or they go on being contrasted by her because she simply exists and reminds them of us the plebs, who out number them the elitists.

Police: Woman accused of killing newborn ate brain

San Antonio police say a woman accused of beheading her 3 1/2-week-old infant son used a knife and two swords in the attack and ate some of the child's body parts.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told reporters Monday that Otty Sanchez's attack on her son, Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez, was "too heinous" to fully discuss.

But he says Sanchez ate part of the newborn's brain and bit off three of his toes before stabbing herself twice

Police say the 33-year-old Sanchez told officers who were called to her house early Sunday that she killed her son at the Devil's request.

Sanchez is charged with capital murder and is being held on $1 million bail. She is recovering from her wounds at a hospital

Democratic Representatives Al Green, Maxine Waters, Robert Wexler and nine others in Congress are backing a bill now that would restore a practice that was banned as of last October, called “seller assisted down payments”. Big Brother - helping gov't fine the living shit out of their citizens

http://tinyurl.com/nuw4pj

Speed camera vendor American Traffic Solutions (ATS) next month will use its automated ticketing expertise to run a litter camera program for Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Under first-of-its-kind initiative, city workers will drive around photographing neighborhoods with special cameras hooked into a Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite tracking device. The workers will be looking to capture homes that might have litter, weeds or trash on their lawn so that a hefty fine can be imposed.

Fifteen "code enforcement specialists" this week began training on the program in which they will drive around looking to issue tickets to homeowners. The code specialists are paid at least $12.49 an hour and must have a valid driver's license, a GED and some experience working in construction to be hired. ATS will download the images that these specialists generate and then use an automated computer system to generate warning letters, tickets and hearing notices similar to those used in the traffic camera program.

When "construction materials, litter, refuse, rubbish, appliances, junk vehicles, limbs, trees or other discarded materials or debris" are photographed at a home, a letter will be sent to the last address of record for the property owner. The situation must be remedied within fifteen days to escape the ticket. The penalty imposed by the program is the same as a red light camera citation -- $117 plus "court costs" of $50. If the owner is on vacation or the address on file is incorrect, Baton Rouge will hold a "litter court" administrative hearing where a municipal employee will find that it is "more probable than not" that the missing property owner is guilty. Residents will also be ticketed for putting out garbage cans before 4pm or failing to retrieve them before 6am.

Flu Pandemic: Mass Graves and Martial Law

The Jones Report on April 3, detailed how the State of New York Division of Cemeteries sent out “Mass Fatality forms” to cemeteries in that state to collect data about their ability to deal with the high volume of casualties that would occur if their were a flu pandemic or other disaster. “Should a prolonged mass fatality disaster or pandemic flu occur in your community would your cemetery be able to provide temporary or permanent internment space for a significant number of disaster or flu deaths in additional to your current burial services?” the form stated.

Earlier this year, Alan Johnson, the British Health Secretary, unveiled the National Pandemic Flu Framework. “Mass graves, inflatable mortuaries, 24-hour cremations and ‘express’ funerals could all be used, government papers show,” the Telegraphreported. “Some scientists say a flu pandemic is now overdue, either from the mutation of the normal human flu virus, or of the H5N1 strain that infects birds.”

As Infowarsreported last week, on July 27 FEMA will conduct National Level Exercise 2009 (NLE 09), scheduled to run through July 31. NLE 09 will ostensibly focus on “terrorism prevention and protection,” according to the FEMA website. In addition to the participation of domestic “partners,” the FEMA exercise will include foreign troops. “This year the United States welcomes the participation of Australia, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom in NLE 09.”

The FEMA websitestates that “Fire and Emergency Medical Services will play a crucial role in the event of a pandemic. Planning for pandemic influenza is key.”

Posted by: J.S.Bridges at July 27, 2009 03:48 PM (AsFx1)

218 Getting back to topic, here's the thing I don't understand from the lefties....

If they had their way, we'd close Gitmo and bring all those War-on-Terror-Overseas-Contingency-Operations offenders into some U.S. courtroom and try them for the crimes of waging war against us (not war-crimes, necessarily). Ignoring that Zero has said--ala Bush--that we may have insufficient evidence to try some of these offenders, while simultaneously they may be too dangerous to release, here's what I don't get...

If we take these guys to trial, convict them, and put them in some SuperMax prison to complete the sentence we've imposed, how is that not the same inspiration for more terrorism that the Lefties claim that Gitmo is today? Are we really expected to believe that some swarthy teenager, on his recruitment into GWOT terror, is going to say: "Nah, Abdul...I don't think I wanna put on that suicide vest. The Americans convicted the Sheik in a courtroom with evidence and witnesses and everything. He really ought to be in their jail."

In terms of an Islamofacist's inspiration, what's the difference between Supermax-Florence, Colorado and Gitmo? Or the difference between Gitmo and Bagram?

Closing Gitmo doesn't end the problem....it just shifts it to a different location.
