| LA Times Blog: It Would Be Pretty Cool if Obama's Older Non-Supporters Died Before the Next ElectionYou tell me how to read this: . A majority of young people still approve of Obama's job performance, but a majority of seniors over 64 now don't (54%). Maybe they'll die before the next election.Maybe LATimes blogger Andrew Malcolm will die of AIDS-related pneumonia in six months. Just saying -- could happen. You never know. Thanks to Arthur K. Comments1
Maybe this little turd will get picked up a Wraith culling of the LA basin. I wouldn't shed too many tears over that.

Maybe the young people will learn something useful in the next couple of years; and understand that pretty words and useless (or harmful) actions aren't a good thing. You know, once they're on their own and find out good intentions aren't enough to cover the bills.
Of course we might rather they just died, but I suppose simply hoping they learn something as they get older is a reasonable alternative. Posted by: Gekkobear at July 08, 2009 05:07 PM (X0NX1) Posted by: lorien1973 at July 08, 2009 05:08 PM (IhQuA) 5
The government is already figuring out how to eliminate these older naysayer voters. This goes perfectly with what Tinian had in that thread yesterday about Rahm Emmanuel's doctor brother's plan for "managed" health care and choosing who gets care and who doesn't. Hint, if you are younger than 15 or older than 40 you best stay healthy or else you'll be reporting to the Soylent Green factory.

Besides piss-poor writing (it's not particularly obvious who is the subject of his death-wish), he isn't much of a spring-chicken, judging by his photo. So if he's hoping the 64 and over crowd dies, I guess he includes himself?
I predict someone will write to the editor and Andrew Malcolm will claim that he didn't intend to leave that sentence in. He was writing in poor light and he couldn't see the column very well. Or something. Posted by: negentropy at July 08, 2009 05:09 PM (vOYw7) 9

This theme has been spun for nearly a year now. I first heard it in connection with Proposition 8. Most of the arguments from the No H8 crowd would fizzle out (after calling those of us who voted for Prop 8 homophobes, bigots and worse) and end on a "well, the people who are against gay marriage are old and going to die soon."
Then I started noticing a similar tactic on abortion threads. I know we're supposed to be so impressed by the masterful use of the "new media" by the Obamanuts, but really they are so transparent. Kinda sad, really. Posted by: Y-not at July 08, 2009 05:15 PM (sey23) 14
I've been reading Malcolm for a while, and that's really out of character. I think he'd acknowledge that line was a big mistake. For a guy who looks to be pushing 70, any jokes about old people dying off have to be taken with a grain of salt.
Media Matters hates him, and he used to be Laura Bush's press secretary, so I'm thinking this was supposed to sound like, "hey, maybe sales of Michael Jackson memorabilia will spur that 3% growth in the economy Obama promised." But failed. Posted by: bgates at July 08, 2009 05:15 PM (Tf7Dr) 15
If it is possible to die of an overdose of Ramen noodles, I totally would've already died of it in college.

Wow, it just goes to show you that this latest selfish generation of libtards do not value the elderly who already contributed to society and are part of what made America great. It's almost like once people are no longer useful to the party, they should be taken out back and shot. But Conservatives are the mean sons of beaches. Hmmm.

According to a new online Harris Poll of 2,177 Americans, after nearly six months of an Obama administration, more than two-thirds (68%) give her a thumbs-up while less than one-third (32%) disapprove. In comparison, after nearly six years in the White House Laura Bush had a 64% approval and a 36% disapproval.
In comparison? IN COMPARISON? The LAT could find smarter people sleeping on the streets of LA.

His bio. Andrew Malcolm's immigrant parents repeatedly stressed the importance of active participation in a democracy. Early lessons included learning the alphabetical list of states by watching televised roll calls of national political conventions. That childhood exposure led to a lifelong fascination with politics, including 40-plus years of covering them and a brief stint practicing them as press secretary to Laura Bush in 1999-2000. A veteran foreign and national correspondent, Malcolm served on the Times Editorial Board and was a Pulitzer finalist in 2004. He is the author of 10 nonfiction books and father of four.

I don't know if it was sarcasm or not, and I don't give a crap. Just know this, I'm over 64, and I plan to live at least long enough to vote against Barry, and every other thieving, slick-talking, ass-hole politician who runs for public office in 2010, and 2012. And there are a bunch of crotchety old bastards just like me. All four of my children, all under 40, will do the same. Not all young people have been taken in by the liberal "feel-good and be stupid" program yet. Including my beautiful and successful daughter who graduated from Berkeley and thinks Obama is an idiot. One more quote from Fight Club which pretty accurately predicts the future for the youngsters that voted for Obama:
"I see in Fight Club the strongest and smartest men who have ever lived. I see all this potential; and I see it squandered. God dammit, an entire generation pumping gas and waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We are the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no great war, no great depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised by television to believe that we’d be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars – but we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed-off." Who can the (R)'s choose as a candidate who will be able to channel that pissed-off-ness into votes? Not some pathetic limp-wristed RINO, almost (D), or (D-lite). I can't believe that Sarah Palin has more balls than the other "front-runners" and is preparing to confront the abomination that is in the works. But if that's her plan, I stand (in a socially acceptable, non-threatening comfort zone) firmly behind her. Posted by: I Am Jack's Raging Bile Duct at July 08, 2009 06:10 PM (8XI4A) 109

I like this:
Michelle Obama, after nearly six months of an Obama administration, more than two-thirds (68%) give her a thumbs-up while less than one-third (32%) disapprove. In comparison, after nearly six years in the White House Laura Bush had a 64% approval and a 36% disapproval. Lets see if they are still comparing her approval ratings to Laura Bush after 4 years, especially once Mrs. O starts involving herself in more policy matters, as she has stated she wants to do. Besides, wiki says this about Laura's approval ratings: In January 2006, a USA Today/CBS/Gallup poll recorded her approval rating at 82 percent and disapproval at 13 percent. The Wiki never lies. tink Posted by: Tinkerbella at July 08, 2009 06:18 PM (pLs/O) 120

The question therefore is, how this number shall be reared and provided for, which, as I have already said, under the present situation of affairs, is utterly impossible by all the methods hitherto proposed. For we can neither employ them in handicraft or agriculture; we neither build houses (I mean in the country) nor cultivate land: they can very seldom pick up a livelihood by stealing, till they arrive at six years old, except where they are of towardly parts, although I confess they learn the rudiments much earlier, during which time, they can however be properly looked upon only as probationers, as I have been informed by a principal gentleman in the county of Cavan, who protested to me that he never knew above one or two instances under the age of six, even in a part of the kingdom so renowned for the quickest proficiency in that art. I am assured by our merchants, that a boy or a girl before twelve years old is no salable commodity; and even when they come to this age they will not yield above three pounds, or three pounds and half-a-crown at most on the exchange; which cannot turn to account either to the parents or kingdom, the charge of nutriment and rags having been at least four times that value. I shall now therefore humbly propose my own thoughts, which I hope will not be liable to the least objection. I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout. I have thought for a long time that this administration wants to get rid of the elderly (to save money, or course). that's why they want to abort babies as well. The young people will have a rude awakening when mommy and daddy can no longer provide them with the money and stuff they've become "entitled" to. There was a movie a number of years ago that dealt with getting rid of people over the age of 30 because they were soooooo old. Also, if you want a real eyeopener, read the book "The Giver." In 1964, LBJ won by a landslide and if the GOP was a beaten puppy, the conservative movement was considered to be a fringe element.
Even with the Great Society giveaways, the Civil Rights act, and free lunch forever, LBJ was toast after 2 years and an object of hatred with the youth. "Hey, Hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today". That same hippie youth movement with overwhelming demographics was supposed to bring a resurgent liberal utopia. Called the LA Times (213-237-5000). Mr. Malcom's supervisor is Roger Smith. Had a nice and friendly conversation. I directed him to the web page and the specific paragraph. He asked me to send him an email asking about this (I did) as he was going to a meeting.
There are others reading this blog that are just as outraged as I am. Maybe they'll call Roger before the next news cycle. I haven't had a chance to read all the comments so this may already have been said. At the moment they are saying it out in the open but after being spoken to their intentions will not change only their mode of communicating it will. Hell is other people. Let's see how much all those 20 Somethings continue to approve of
Abject Socialism as they approach their third year of unemployment.
The states are almost bankrupt now. There's no way they can pay unemployment benefits into a third year. I'm afraid this is the last peaceful summer this nation is going to see for a while. I'm sure the next step as panic approaches is for tax rates for the quote "wealthy" (which will have to be progressively defined down into the lower middle class) will start rising into the stratosphere. But the 52%' ers enjoyed voting for and watching the "historic" inauguration. So they have that memory to keep them warm and fed for the next three years. I have a quesy feeling in the pit of my stomach that that isn't going to be enough. Posted by: I Am Jack's Raging Bile Duct at July 08, 2009 07:11 PM (8XI4A) 188

Ah, good to know. There's also a newer book called "They Never Said It: A Book of Fake Quotes, Misquotes, and Misleading Attributions" (I heard the author discussing it on local rdio) which pretty much comes to the same conclusion (i.e., that neither Churchill nor Wilkie were the first to utter the saying, if they ever did). Apparently ol' Winston never actually said half of the really clever stuff he's credited for -- even the quips about Lady Astor. Posted by: Capt. Numbstick at July 08, 2009 07:15 PM (voIlD) 194

Even if Obama is booted out in 2012, there's still going to be lots of stuff that needs to be repaired. The domestic policy things (well, most of them) can be fixed in a relatively short amount of time. I fear the foreign policy fuckups more, because they last for decades. The one example most can pull out of their heads quickly is Iran, a problem that's plagued the world for 30 years. And if Iran does go nuclear, I'm afraid that's basically forever. And with what I'm reading about Ahmedinejad gaining more and more control over the Revolutionary Guard - Israel's going to get it first.
But what the hell, in the end, there will be only chaos! Posted by: Kratos (on the back of Gaia, scaling Mt Olympus) at July 08, 2009 07:20 PM (otlXg) 204

Forgive if this is a repeat: Vomit Alert: Obama Administration Says US Accepting 1,350 Palestinian Refugees From Iraq...Christians Still Stuck Being Massacred..... The State Department confirmed today that as many as 1,350 Iraqi Palestinians – once the well-treated guests of Saddam Hussein and now at outs with much of Iraqi society – will be resettled in the US, mostly in southern California, starting this fall. It will be the largest-ever resettlement of Palestinian refugees into the US
As Weasel Zippers says: Nobody in Iraq has had it as rough as Christians, who are still subjected to rape, jizya tax, forced conversions, robbery and murder on a routine basis. Fuck the Palestinians, they were huge supporters of Saddam Hussein. And at last check, the US is still an overwhelmingly Christian nation....

I stand by what I said about the youth -- at least here and at least among those who have to work somewhat to pay for part of their college experience. I think the number of those will grow as Mom and Dad can't pay for the rent, the college "allowance" (spit), or even most/part of the tuition as things get worse. Nothing shakes a person's beliefs quite so much as messing with their money. Two months ago the younglings would rise in spirited defense of their dear leader, now they just stand silent at work when you criticize the man. Four months ago most of these same kids were "hell no, I won't go -- join in Bush's evil military and get shot at for the "man", lately more and more of them have been showing up at the recruiters wanting to know just exactly how much money they could get if they sign up and how much of their college would be paid for. The schadenfruede has been sweet for my family -- quote from my crazy, cool mom to one of the "he's gonna pay my mortgage" crowd: "so, do you have a new car yet? how about that rent money? Oh, that's right, you got tossed from your place when you couldn't pay for it, because you just lost your job...car got reposessed too didn't it? Hasn't worked out too well has it?" She can be an evil, sarcastic little devil. My daughters have already vowed to have as much fun as possible with those sorts of newbies when they finally get into active deployment positions.
