| Sacrifice, Obama StylePresident-Elect Barack Obama, January 10, 2009: "And eventually sacrifice from everyone?" I asked. "Everybody’s going to have to give. Everybody’s going to have to have some skin in the game," Obama said.President Barack Obama, June 1, 2009: I know you've already seen more than your fair share of hard times. We saw 400,000 jobs lost in the auto industry in the year before this restructuring even began. I will not pretend the hard times are over. Difficult days lie ahead. More jobs will be lost. More plants will close. More dealerships will shut their doors, and so will many parts suppliers. But I want you to know that what you're doing is making a sacrifice for the next generation -- a sacrifice you may not have chose to make, but a sacrifice you were nevertheless called to make so that your children and all of our children can grow up in an America that still makes things; that still builds cars; that still strives for a better future.Politico, today: President Barack Obama and his family plan to vacation next month on Martha's Vineyard, Democratic sources said. The trip has long been rumored on the island, where federal agents were reported to be checking out property last spring. The plan puts the Obamas in one of America's most diverse resort areas. The enclave of Oak Bluffs has long been a favorite vacation spot for the nation's African-American elite.I'm sensing a pattern here: your sacrifice makes the Obama's indulgences possible. Keep up the good work, people. Obama's expensive tastes are counting on you. So...how's your cake? Comments1

You know, when Clinton went on the occasional vacation, I didn't begrudge him.
And then Bush got elected, and apparently every second he wasn't at his desk was a dereliction of duty...according to the Left. Now as Obama's policies are destroying the economy he is going on vacation... I say we give him the full MSM/Bush treatment. HOW DARE THIS SCUMBAG GO ON VACATION WHILE AMERICANS ARE SUFFERING! The whole point that makes sacrifice worthwhile is that the thing you end up with is actually worth more than what was given up.
So, dealership owners "sacrifice" their entrepreneurial dreams. Sales, repair, and support staff "sacrifice" their jobs. Line workers and suppliers "sacrifice" their careers. Investors "sacrifice" their capital. The consumer "sacrifices" his ability to buy the car he/she actually wants to buy. And the grand payoff is: Pelosi runs the car company, the UAW has a bigger say-so in how things get done, and the EPA gets to set the CAFE standards so high, they ensure dominance of Japanese and Korean car manufacturers for the foreseeable future. Thanks, Mr. Wizard. I was going to make a tasteless joke about Ol' Ted giving Obama a lift after a party on The Vineyard, but can't bring myself to it. Hey, first of all, leave the wife and kids out of this. We don't attack the families of politicians, it's not right. Secondly, after all the sacrifices Barack has made for you ungrateful, bitter clingers, he is entitled to a little R&R. Being president is hard work and especially since he has to clean up all of George Bush's messes. Besides, if Barack wasn't serving the public as President, he would be making a lot of money writing award winning books or acting on t.v. When I think of all the hours he toils in anonymity, trying to improve life for the American people, I get a little choked up. The man is a God (Evan Thomas said so). He has been under such duress because of all the Bush caused disasters. So get a life and quit complaining. You are just lucky enough that you are making enough money to actually pay taxes. You don't know how hard it is to sit around on my butt all day, watching Jerry Springer and soap operas, eating gubamint cheese and store brand chips and yelling at the half dozen children I have. It is hard work, sometimes my throat gets sore from all the screaming, and there are even times I can't find the remote. Plus, I just can't seem to lose those last 83 pounds so my feet hurt and all I can wear is sweat pants and mumu tops. So shut your mouths and leave my man alone, he's doing a great job!

Mon Jul 6, 6:48 pm ET MERCED, Calif. – The final price of the University of California, Merced's commencement ceremony featuring first lady Michelle Obama was more than $1 million — surpassing the original estimate tenfold. Private contributions and interest on a private endowment fund have helped cover the cost. UC spokeswoman Patti Waid Istas said that nonstate dollars and other contributions will be used to cover the remaining balance of around $362,338. The school had budgeted $100,000 for the May commencement ceremony. The price tag ended up being $1.04 million. The address attracted about 12,000 visitors, requiring additional transportation, audiovisual and multimedia needs and other items. Obama was neither paid for her appearance nor compensated for travel and security. Posted by: Anti-Harkonnen Freedom Fighter at July 06, 2009 09:55 PM (5r0Tz) 122

I think a better place for the Obamas to vacation would be Six Flags in Agawam, MA. Since they are obviously looking for a diverse location such as Marth'as Vineyard, this would be a cheaper alternative and show that they are in tune with the common folk. The masses who voted for him are bused to the park daily, loaded down with soap, towels and toothbrushes to take their baths at the water park and lay out in the sun. Then the Obamas could enjoy the fun, sun, park rides and the adoration of all of his supporters, and if the "girls" want to shop, they have great shops there where you can buy shot glasses, really cool tee shirts and flipflops along with beanie babies. All on a budget. Posted by: Jaimo at July 06, 2009 10:06 PM (ibxSN) 134

Many blacks from Oak Bluffs are elated that the Only One–in–Chief may be joining them. "People are going to lose their minds!" Tonya Lewis Lee says. At the same time, there's also a bit of wariness among the wealthiest ones, an uncertainty whether Obama will affirm them. "Obama is more a man of the people," says a Vineyarder who's part of black high society. "He doesn't seem to identify with affluent black people. His wife definitely doesn't; she is basically a ghetto girl. That's what she says—I'm just being sociological. She grew up in the same place Jennifer Hudson did. She hasn't reached out to the social community of Washington, and people are waiting to see what they'll do about that." If the Obamas join the Clintons and Caroline Kennedy on the island this August, they’ll be visiting a vacationland known for its liberal politics and for its self-imposed racial segregation. A sacrifice requires an "offering". The offering is the "sacrifice" be it lambs, gold, myrr; or labor, income, property. There is one who makes the offering and one who accepts the offering.

My family vacationed in Martha's Vineyard every year until the Clinton's messed us up three years in a row. Don't get me started on the ruination of our vacations. 75 Ford Explorers confiscating a booked ferry for the Secret Service, towns completely blocked off so Bill could stroll for a cup of coffee, 3 hour wait at airport for a plane that had already landed, because the president's was SUPPOSED to be there, but hadn't yet taken off from Washington DC.... (luckily I got to meet Van Johnson at the airport that time.) Now OBamacorn is ready to ruin other peoples vacations. Screw him.

In the years leading up to the election, Obama usually gave less than 1% of his income to charity. The years he was making bank writing books about himself, only 4 to 6%. Remember, this mau-mauing community organizer's only professional background is taking and giving away other people's money. Well, that and training ACORN to pressure banks to give out bad home loans. Posted by: Crusty at July 07, 2009 07:51 AM (qzgbP) 189

My children are only 2 and 3 years old and they are both in debt to the toon of $75,000 because of your fucking clueless, pathetic decisions. Quit fucking spending in your own life, sir. Be a leader for once. I don't really care what Obama does on vacation or what he spends on his kids. If he spent the next 3.5 years on vacation I'd prefer it to the last six months. It makes me ill when he talks about shared sacrifice--by "sacrifice" he means "massive transfer payments from the treasury to my political supporters funded by long-term debt so I can stay in power." I'm actually not too worried about it. I see three possible outcomes. The country, broke and ruined, with nothing left to tax; armed revolution, with the traitors decorating the lampposts of DC; or the Democrats swept from office in 2010. My money's on the last, although #2 would be more satisfying. Like so many other idiots, Obama has confused wealth with income. My income, like most, depends on me having a job. That's not exactly a safe assumption going forward, considering even the official unemployment number. Somehow, I doubt the unemployed, dissillusioned and angry are going to blame the former president. The current one's making all the wrong moves and it isn't working. Excuses have a limited shelf life, and I don't think blaming Bush will sell in 2010 with 10% plus unemployment and rising interest rates and energy prices. I'm already nostalgic for the bad old days. The market was over 12,000, I was on my way to a comfortable retirement, and I felt secure in my job.

#194 "...I don't think blaming Bush will sell in 2010 with 10% plus unemployment and rising interest rates and energy prices."
We should hope for only 10% unemployment. Even if job losses slow down from 600K a month to 300K-400K a month, we'll be looking much north of 10% by the end of the year. I get the feeling that this fall could get really ugly for Chairman Obamao if he's facing 14-15% unemployment and trying to cram crap and tax and health care down our throats on the backs on anyone making a living. Forget this $200K a year crap. Anyone making a living will have to get the shit taxed out of them to pay for his Marxism. Posted by: theadmiral at July 07, 2009 09:17 AM (zNl33) 198
