US National Archives looted worse than Iraq's

Over the past 50 years or so some fairly important stuff seems to have ummm....gone missing.

  • Wright Bros patent
  • Lincoln Civil war dispatches
  • Whatever Sandy Burglar took
  • etc, etc

OT/UPDATE: Palin attorney vows legal action against defamers. Read the last paragraph, that's where the rubber meets the road and legal action is promised.

6 I would imagine that one of the first things they need to do is inventory everything. I do not care if they have 9 billion items. They should inventory it all. Anything that is not inventoried yet should be locked away until it can be inventoried. Items should only be examined in secure areas. Every person that steals items from the public record should be thrown in jail for a longer period than just a couple of years. How hard is this?

No, they loved me just fine and my mom is/was horribly naive. This was just before the murders, so how was she to know that leaving you little kid with hippies playing guitars and begging for money in front of the Safeway was a bad idea? In her mind it was no big deal because she saw them all the time. I guess she was right, cause everything worked out just fine, in that I was still there in front of the store ten minutes later and I believe it was Tex Watson that tried to teach me some guitar cords while I sat on his knee.

Ahh... good times!

Hey Jim...got a Manson story, too!

One of the first detectives on the case lived two doors up the street from my family. We had just moved to California.

One warm night, sleeping with my window open I heard 2 men/older teenager voices speaking  directly outside my screen window. One asked the other if this was the house, the other said yes, it was.

I heard things being smashed for about 5 minutes or so on our patio deck. I was so frightened that I almost fainted right there in my bed, and stayed there till it became morning.

The unofficial version from that detective, who was friends with our family, was that it was some of the Manson gang out on one of their runs and attempting to spook/scare off the detective investigating them.

Yes, I am hypervigilant ever since then.

This is such an ignorant statement, one knows not where to begin.

34 Dude, it's going to be electronic! With microchips and such. Trust me.

I like electronic records when they are kept within the institution.  Reading other peoples handwriting, especially doctors, is sometimes next to impossible.  What bothers me is when they are released into the wild on the internet.  Hospital to hospital is alright, but other than that, HIPAA should rule.

All that aside, will it save money?  Maybe a couple thousand per institution, but I can't see more than that.  Thing is, this is already starting to take place in the private sector.  Slowly, to be sure.  It is mostly a patient safety/anti-malpractice thing.

If Obama is such an awesome light worker and miraculous economic genius, why do leftwing rabid trolls still find it necessary to deflect and obfuscate for the man?

If everything we heard about Obama is true, why aren't they sitting back and enjoying the ride?

Could it be they know he's a fraud? If I were an Obama Kool-Aid drinker, I'd be sitting in my e-z chair right now smoking a spliff and listening to Bob Dylan. No need to even watch the news. With Obama in charge, it's all good.

But according to them, the GOP is dead. Capitalism is dead. Sarah Palin doesn't have a chance in hell. Why put in the effort if that's true?

The answer is they know it's not true. They know Obama's economic policies are based on fantasy. They know Biden is a fool, Clinton is a fool, and Obama will look weak on foreign policy.

Conclusion: they're worried.

I think Obama will get a pass during his first year. After that, he will be accountable no matter what he says about "inherited messes" and no matter  how the media spins for him.

Obama cannot keep spinning the jobs report by saying the losses were less than the losses the month before. He said he was going to create jobs; the jobs reports need to show positive job increases.

Oh, and that "saved or created" farce is blowing up in their faces and they know it. I think we will not be hearing that anymore in the coming months.

Her being a public figure does not necessarily preclude action:

"In New York Times Co. v. Sullivan four years ago, the Supreme Court laid down tough constitutional limitations on libel recoveries by public officials. "A defamatory falsehood relating to his official conduct," ruled the court, must be "made with 'actual malice'—that is, with knowledge that it was false or with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not."

...it was obviously done with malice...but proving they knew it was false might be a problem

To go even further, I cannot tell you the number of liberals I have talked to who grew up in conservative households and became liberals as a form of rejection of, and embarrassment about, their past.  One liberal I know quite well, he grew up in a wealthy suburb and went to a highschool full of rich yuppie conservative snobs, and since he didn't want to turn out like that, he became a liberal.  Another one, she grew up in a conservative household and (I think) her parents went through a messy divorce during her formative years.  Now she denounces conservatives as moralizing bastards, based on her personal traumatic experience.  A third liberal I know, he also grew up in a conservative household that was also rather simple and unsophisticated, and he is now the urbane sophisticate who is embarrassed by his parents and his past so he's made himself into their complete opposite, including adopting liberalism.  Their stories are sad, sometimes, but their generalizations are quite unfair.

172 This whole thing with Sarah has got me to thinking. What we need in this country is an alternative to the AP. I know the internet is replacing the MSM but here is the problem as I see it. The AP provides the vast majority of news stories in the MSM.

FOX news corp is just the center right spin of those stories. Thus the AP sets the course that the MSM and FOX follows.

What we need is a conservative version of a national newspaper. More in depth reporting and news feeds going out to the internet. Also a high powered presence on the net to fuel the papers credibility. News, finance and entertainment. Sort of the everyman's Wall Street Journal.

This would be important in the sense of providing a counter push to the Soros crowd. We are losing this battle in the trenches and need a D-day type of response in our culture.

Living in such a world where money is taught to them as something of a right, and is free for anything they do, they naturally think that denying anyone money is a bad person. Hence the leans to socialism/fascism/communism.

And because they never worry about money or earning it, their natural abilities are turned to pursuits that are necessarily parasitic on society. Hence why so many liberals are artists; artists exist solely on the money of others, just like liberals relying on their parents wealth.

So liberals claiming their parents' conservatism turned them into liberals blames the parents. Too many conservative parents coddle their children, instead of kicking them out the door at 18 to earn a living, or at least demanding work for the money parents provide.

I prefer the Dave Ramsey idea of giving kids money: they're on a commission-basis, not a welfare system.

She'll have to travel the country, building up a base until the GOP no-braintrust can't figure out why their chosen puppets poll so badly and draw no crowds

Then they'll send  a few mailers, send a RINO analyst on Meet the Press, buttonhole Brooks and Noonan at the dinner parties, then ask David Frum what to do next.

As to liberals being borne of conservative parents, I must be the exception. My parents are both right wingers and so am I. But they taught me to use logic and common sense and told me to figure things out on my own. So maybe that's the hitch.

My dad and I were having a discussion along the lines of that earlier today. I would think real world experience should be a qualification for holding public office, but that's obviously not the case. Career politicians also make the case for term limits. And I know I won't be voting any lawyers into public office if I can help it. (Barring offices that are actually for lawyers like DA or AG.)

But even so, that still doesn't explain why Repubs don't have their own George Soros. If a Repub loses an election, there's no reason why they can't funnel some of the money they're making into helping defeat opponents for other Repub candidates.

I guess that also begs the question, as blackrock brought up, why does it seem like the majority of "rich" people are Democrats even tho it's the Repubs who are being accused of being "rich"?

238 When Obama goes down, he takes any remaining media credibility with him.  The public will understand who sold them the lemon.

Since so many people pay no income tax at all, the debt and the taxes needed to finance the same are meaningless to them.  The only things that would get their attention would be high unemployment and high inflation.  The bleak jobs picture looks to continue.  The inflation will kick off once the banks and consumers let lose of the funds they are hoarding.  I don't see how the Feds can soak up all that liquidity without massive interest rate hikes, which they don't seem interested in doing.

Historically, the Fed (like any bureaucracy) kept kicking the inflation can down the road.  It wasn't until Volcker came in that anything was done.  At the time pols were screaming for his scalp, but he stuck to his guns and got our house in order.  Took a lot of guts.  Something Greenspan and Bernanke both lack.  So we can expect inflation to remain in place until Bernanke is replaced.  But since he is so pliable, Obama will probably keep him there.  Result: Obama will be replaced, but Bernanke will remain.

Fudge! Wiki says they serve 14yr terms?  I thought it was 6yrs.  We could be well and truly screwed.

Palin's departure can't come soon enough for Laurel Carlton, a waitress at the Capital Cafe in the Baranof Hotel, where the city's political movers and shakers meet every morning before walking a few blocks to the Capitol.

"I think she has a game plan that's not Alaska, and hasn't been for awhile," Carlton said.

She noted Palin has a book deal, and seems headed for the national stage.

"If you're really not going to stay and do your job every day, you should leave anyway, and so the sooner the better so somebody can step in and actually do the job," Carlton said.

And as far as Carlton is concerned, Palin doesn't need to explain why she's leaving.

"We don't care. We just want her gone," she said.

260 And, to steal something from one of Kennedy's advisors, John Kenneth Galbraith (kind of a moonbat, but seems to be a true intellectual, nonetheless), I guess "insight" means passing on the "conventional wisdom".

Please never, ever quote that man on this board. He is the antithesis of Atlas Shrugged, The Road to serfdom, or The Forgotten Man. Have you ever read the Nature of Poverty? Please go read the Wealth of Nations and say two Hail Mary's. I am not Catholic, that is how great your offense was!

Palin's departure can't come soon enough for Laurel Carlton, a Democratic Party activist/ACORN volunteer/husband of Dem Party chairman/etc waitress at the Capital Cafe in the Baranof Hotel, where the city's political movers and shakers meet every morning before walking a few blocks to the Capitol.

I'm afraid that ace still thinks there's a viable candidate that can be put up for 2012. The "Last Man Standing" who'll get votes because everyone is sick of Obama.

Rudy and Fred bailed too, but I'd give them another chance too. Don't give me the "they didn't leave a job" because they bailed on a campaign, so the enemy will slap the quitter label on them too.

Whereas I think it's accurate to say you are full of shit.

Counter-examples: Massachusetts is  a one-party Democrat state, and ALL its congressmen and Senators are Dems.  NYC votes Democratic.  So do the upper-middle elites in Ann Arbor, Austin, and New Haven, e.g.

Oh and btw:  has anyone noticed that the "megarich" are heavily invested in Barack?  That's because they can use Big Government to squeeze out their competitors and game the system.

On Mon-Wed-Fri libtards claim the GOP is the party of the rich.

A public figure defamation plaintiff need not prove falsehood: the other prong of the NYT v. regarding michelle obama and her supposedly "toned" arms?

the woman is FAT. her legs are the size of three hams roped together. she has a gut, and a rather large wide butt. i am sorry, but her over bite gets to me. she has a mouth full of these jutting teeth, and the feature is most unattractive.for some reason she always looks angry, or looks like she is plotting some secret revenge. the woman has enormous feet; has anyone else noticed her huge feet? also, her breasts are rather small.

so, with all of theses flaws the media is looking for something "nice" to say. there can be no other explanation. the only problem is that mobama doesn't have nicely toned arms. they are fat too!

the woman is fat! hello! she is built like an ex linebacker!

Suing David Letterman over a joke.  Yeah, that's a winning political strategy.

I though conservatives were against frivolous lawsuits and for free speech.

Even worse - being a decades long unfunny waste of airtime.  Do you have any idea how many reruns of StarTrek, STTNG, DS9, etc could have been aired during the airtime months that asswipe soaked up?  It was criminal.

I think there's higher value, and more vulnerable, media/entertainment targets out there though.

Conservatives need to collect their scalps, not out of anger, but the utility of it.  I'm not thinking of the sour-faced, gratuitous attacks by Letterman, but more so of the 15 frivolous lawsuits that were so expensive to Palin.  I perceive a dog pile that has grown in strength over time, and like most mobs they will enjoy the unfairness of the attacks.  And if Palin disappears, they'll find another target.  We need to take the cold, logical steps to deal with it.

No, if we were angry, if we were really mean, we would force Letterman to sign a twenty year contract.

You're right. My bad.

I tend to get my back up when liberals claim they are the party of smart people, and we are the party of Rednecks, ignoring their huge poor/lower-middle class base.

348 Palin should file mad amounts of lawsuits. Dems like to use the law as a weapon, well, Palin should wield it vigorously against them. Start with David Letterman, Andrew Sullivan and all those uncouth and uncivil Democrat jackals who have soured American discourse. Toss MoDowd in the mix, Olbermann and all the nasties. It's not about chilling free speech; it's about ensuring that those with media power engage in responsible journalism rather than participate in the Clinton-Obama politics of personal destruction. Woe betide the hides of the jackals now that Palin is freed from the constraint of public office!

I don't think she can sue someone for telling a joke or saying they think she is stupid.  she can only sue them if they spread false info about her...like she is under FBI investigation for embezzlement.
