Sotomayor Borked Bork

Whoa. The hits keep on coming with Judge Sotomayor. We've already seen how her extrajudicial activities--speeches, papers, clubs--cast doubt on her ability to treat men and whites with the necessary impartiality to be a judge. There was also the sneaky way she disposed of the Ricci case. Ethics went out the door when her membership in a women-only group was discovered (something forbiden by the Code of Judicial Conduct).

And now it turns out that she advised a Puerto Rican advocacy group in the 1980s which opposed Judge Bork's nomination to the Supreme Court by labeling him a "threat" to the "civil rights of the Latino American community." And it doesn't stop there.

The revelation is included in 350 pages of documents the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund delivered to the senators late Tuesday evening.
Judge Sotomayor worked for PRLDEF in various capacities from 1980 until she became a federal judge in 1992, spending most of her time as a board member.
The documents, which the group's lawyers have said include relevant information about Judge Sotomayor's time there, also show the fund did legal work for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, known as ACORN. During the 2008 presidential election, ACORN came under fire after allegations of voter registration fraud.

Hmmm. If only the Republicans in Congress hadn't started on the wrong foot with her, there'd be some real momentum to have her nomination withdrawn. Instead, John Cornyn bravely led the Republicans on Senate Judiciary into hiding under his desk and then hired squish-professor Orin Kerr to contrive a reason why.

If the other Justices think she has prejudicial viewpoints she will not be able to build a consensus for opinions. We aren't getting a decent justice out of Obama, so we at best hope for a crippled one.

SoSo is exactly what Democrats love. (Ginsberg, people!) The Democrats aren't going to vote against her, and I never expected the Republicans to care.

So, really, this kabuki is a way of making Sotomayor even more attractive to Georgetown cocktail parties. Otherwise, it's pointless.

I hate it when people throw up their hands, saying she's going to be confirmed anyway. Even if you assume that SotoMAYOR can't be defeated in the Senate, it is still important to get this stuff out. It affects the public perception of Obama, which in turn affects his popularity ratings, which affects his ability to pass his agenda. More please.

Second Act: The same act repeated with the second Republican Senator, except this time the entrance stage left is of a particularly latin-looking gentleman dressed in a firefighters clothes: No need to introduce him; his name tag says "RICCI"!

If by now those "Wise Latina" bloomers are still unsoiled, let the third set of "advisers" be an agglomeration of 7 be-suited, be-tied, be-robed White men and 1 White woman!

It is too bad there is no opposition party that sees it as its mission to hold the Dem's feet to the fire, and make them nominate good candidates for the SC who support American values, instead of leftism and the politics of victimology.

Since the media operates effectively as the PR arm of the Democrats, what remains of the opposition is scared to death of doing anything that too strongly opposes the Democrat agenda. They have drunk deeply of the Beltway Kool-aid and allowed themselves to be suckered into believing that American conservatism is worse than dead, it is uncool.

We need some new Republican's in DC who have not forgotten the rest of the country still exists, and what its true values are.

I'd like to hope that this is true, and to a limited extent I suppose it might be. But the Left's agenda is to continue building a court made up of more wise minority leftist types who are committed to the ideology they worship. Her vote will count whether prejudiced or not - that's what matters most. If something happens to any of the remaining justices who care about the real meaning of the Constitution they'll put in more traitors just like her to make their victory complete. The Libs will not offer up any reasonable candidates for SC - they can't risk some rogue going against their plans. Once they've got the majority, it will be immediately followed by a series of decisions that will stun us, and transform the country in a very negative way. We could win back the presidency and the legislature and still be unable to get past the court without taking extreme action.
