WaPo blatantly peddling influence "access"

We have the best politicians, media, and judges money can buy.

For $25,000 to $250,000, The Washington Post is offering lobbyists and association executives off-the-record, nonconfrontational access to "those powerful few" — Obama administration officials, members of Congress, and the paper’s own reporters and editors.
Phat contracts for your company? - billions.

Hush money payoff to WaPo - $25,000

Not being attacked by WaPo? P.R.I.C.E.L.E.S.S.

President Beclowner must be doing something right!

WASHINGTON – Employers cut a larger-than-expected 467,000 jobs in June, driving the unemployment rate up to a 26-year high of 9.5 percent, suggesting that the economy's road to recovery will be bumpy.

The Labor Department report, released Thursday, showed that even as the recession flashes signs of easing, companies likely will want to keep a lid on costs and be wary of hiring until they feel certain the economy is on solid ground.

June's payroll reductions were deeper than the 363,000 that economists expected and average weekly earnings dropped to the lowest level in nearly a year.

Newspapermen used to pay sources (or informants or tipsters who could lead them to sources).

Now the sources have to pay the newspaper. Notice that you're buying access to their reporting staff, too.

Sophomore year in college, I changed my major from journalism because I didn't see how I could pay my bills on a newspaper writer's salary. Little did I know I could charge the people I would write about $25k before I would write the[ir] story.

35 This is ridiculous.  The kicker is that if you read the entire article, WaPo doesn't think that they are doing anything wrong.  No, they are just "facilitiating the debate" and engaging in "journalistic inquiry".  You can bet if Fox News tried selling access to Bush administration officials, the left would shriek until their heads exploded.

But you see, WaPo isn't doing anything wrong, because they're libs selling access to other libs, and therefore their intentions are all good.

Posted by: chemjeff at July 02, 2009 09:29 AM (nKA5J)

36 I must take issue with calling the WaPo whores or the more modern term, presstitutes.  The WaPo are not actually getting themselves into "bed" with the $25,000 payees, they're just helping the payee get into bed with Congressional and Administration "friends".

That makes them pimps, procuresses, brothel-keepers and bawdstrots.

Laugh out loud funny:

Following a testy exchange during today’s briefing with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas told CNSNews.com that not even Richard Nixon tried to control the press the way President Obama is trying to control the press.

“Nixon didn’t try to do that,” Thomas said. “They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try.

“What the hell do they think we are, puppets?” Thomas said. “They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.”

Thomas said she was especially concerned about the arrangement between the Obama Administration and a writer from the liberal Huffington Post Web site. The writer was invited by the White House to President Obama’s press conference last week on the understanding that he would ask Obama a question about Iran from among questions that had been sent to him by people in Iran.

“When you call the reporter the night before you know damn well what they are going to ask to control you,” Thomas said.

These imbeciles are actually shocked the (horrible) basketball player in chief would do this.

67 Is the Washington Post owned by the same interests running ABC?

[20/20 John Stossel] was apparently upset after the network decided to hold his piece on Canada's health-care system -- set to air last Friday night, the day after Jackson died -- in favor of a memorial to the King of Pop.--Amanda Melillo, New York Post

How convenient. ABC drops information critical of Obama's health care agenda until "later this month"--after legislative votes?

Leave it to Obama's administration to try making ALL over the counter drugs inaccessible because of abusers of all things like Michael Jackson who was never sorry for his corruption of innocence, rather, proud to the end. I doubt there are nearly the deaths related to Nyquil&Tylenol overdose (unless suicide) as to alcoholics taking Ibuprofen and ruining their guts. But it will be the elderly suffering with arthritis who will be forced to either pay double or accept stronger drugs being pushed by the Pharmaceutical industry despite their very deadly side effects.

Obama will at least attempt to dilute pain relief anti-inflammatory over the counter drugs in order to in effect double the price of the drugs (line profiteer pockets), and double the taxation on the drugs as twice as many bottles will be sold for the same dosage.
