| Honduran President Ousted Ahead of Vote to Extend His PowerA vote their Supreme Court declared was illegal. Hugo Chavez blames the "rich people". Does that sound familiar? The AP applies banana republic spin (shocka!). They're as dependable as the State Department. The first military takeover of a Central American government in 16 years drew widespread condemnation from governments in Latin America and the world, and Chavez vowed to overthrow the country's apparent new leader. President Manuel Zelaya was awakened Sunday by gunfire and detained while still in his pajamas, hours before an unpopular constitutional referendum many saw as a power grab. An air force plane flew him into forced exile in Costa Rica as armored military vehicles with machine guns rolled through the streets of the Honduran capital and soldiers seized the national palace.Zelaya tried to pull a Chavez and was stopped. And yet, the State Department of the United States of America condemned it. The new interim President of Honduras, who was sworn in to finish out Zelaya's term and no more responded thusly: "I don't think anyone here, not Barack Obama and much less Hugo Chavez, has the right to come and threaten (Honduras)." It's a sad goddamn day when central America teaches us lessons about controlling power grabs. Thank goodness we aren't meddling in the affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Comments1

What's more, the G-D New York Times and Associated Press are still running blaring headlines calling this a "coup." They quote liberally from the Zelaya but cite statements from none of the other institutional actors in Honduras. Is our press corps really this stupid? Wait, I know the answer to that...

Bravo to the Honduran Supreme Court and military. This is how you deal with political tyrants that unconstitutionally attempt to usurp power. Our political traitors and sellouts are enemy of the people and freedom loving people worldwide. Our craven prostitutes in DC grovel and pander to dictators and proclaim to not want to meddle in their affairs, but those nations that are our allies with democratically elected leaders Hussein is more than happy to meddle in their internal affairs. It's a shame our military will not protect the Constitution in the same manner as the Honduran military; it is long overdue. Posted by: The Great Satan at June 28, 2009 10:07 PM (71Zq0) 19

June 28, 2016:
Hours before a controversial and un-Constitutional referendum to allow President Obama to serve a third term, the military acted on Supreme Court orders to remove the elected US President from power. Venezuelan President-for-Life Hugo Chavez vows to invade and restore Obama. Sadly, given 8 years of Obama military de-funding, the Venezuelan Army has a better-than-even chance of succeeding. I hate Masturbaters*. This man strokes himself every fucking time he opens his mouth. But, look, I just think that what we've been doing over the last six months is getting people back into fighting trim. This is a town where there was just a belief that nothing could get done....I'll use just the workout metaphor, and that is, you know, when you start training again and you're pushing your body a little bit harder, sometimes it hurts. But if you keep on at it, after a while your body adjusts. And I think that's what's happening to politics in Washington. Folks have been sitting on the couch for a while, and now they're starting to feel like, hey, you know what, I can run. And that's why we're getting stuff done.

muffy, I know some people just like that. Most of the Obots I know are absolutely convinced that it will all turn out alright.
What's scarier is the few who are getting doubts always end the argument with the assertion that no alternative could have done any better. Which is how they will rationalize liberal inferiority forever. Obama's "No one could have expected the kind of success we saw in Iraq" except that we'll be in the pit, with only their failing to consider. Posted by: Methos at June 28, 2009 11:04 PM (wU8X9) 112

David #101, that was an excellent Lincoln speech you linked to........
"I know the American People are much attached to their Government;--I know they would suffer much for its sake;--I know they would endure evils long and patiently, before they would ever think of exchanging it for another. Yet, notwithstanding all this, if the laws be continually despised and disregarded, if their rights to be secure in their persons and property, are held by no better tenure than the caprice of a mob, the alienation of their affections from the Government is the natural consequence; and to that, sooner or later, it must come. Here then, is one point at which danger may be expected. The question recurs, "how shall we fortify against it?" The answer is simple. Let every American, every lover of liberty, every well wisher to his posterity, swear by the blood of the Revolution, never to violate in the least particular, the laws of the country; and never to tolerate their violation by others. As the patriots of seventy-six did to the support of the Declaration of Independence, so to the support of the Constitution and Laws, let every American pledge his life, his property, and his sacred honor;--let every man remember that to violate the law, is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the character of his own, and his children's liberty. Let reverence for the laws, be breathed by every American mother, to the lisping babe, that prattles on her lap--let it be taught in schools, in seminaries, and in colleges; let it be written in Primers, spelling books, and in Almanacs;--let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in legislative halls, and enforced in courts of justice. And, in short, let it become the political religion of the nation; and let the old and the young, the rich and the poor, the grave and the gay, of all sexes and tongues, and colors and conditions, sacrifice unceasingly upon its altars." @97 momma: What ever happened to Obama's piece of sidetang? Wasn't see living in the Bahamas? While I wouldn't put it past any man to creep (because what man doesn't love strange?), it's not the vice that I see Obama indulging in. Bill Clinton looked like a horndog. Bush looked like he'd enjoy a twelve-pack. Cheney looked like he'd shoot you in the face. To me at least, Obama doesn't look likehe has poontang on the brain very often. He's a narcissist for sure. Like Clinton, he wants to be adored. But whereas Clinton's sought adoration as a stepping-stone to getting to hang out with Jeff Smoker, Obama seems like the adoration is the ultimate goal. Or, to be less analytical about it, Obama just seems to cool... and I don't mean that in a he's-black-so-of-course-he's-way-cooler-than-you-honkys way. I mean he's just too aloof, to incapable of passionate interactions with others. It's like he just doesn't seem like he'd enjoy a hogsmoke. Just my $0.02. Back in the late 60's or early 70's there was a freshman democrat congressman from NY named Ned Pattison. During his first term he was widely quoted in the local media as saying he didn't care what his constituents thought - he was going to vote as he pleased. Ned's first term was his only term. Mrs. Masturbatin' Pete also voted for Teh Won, but I can't really call her an O-Bot because she's one of those people who just doesn't care that much about politics. It's a little frustrating that I can't really engage her in political discussions, but at least she's not wild about the guy. Besides, like most of the willingly underinformed and apathetic, she's a swing voter, so she goes the right way most of the time. And that means that she'll come around eventually, probably when they start taxing her health benefits at work or when our income taxes go up.

"[I]t is not only permitted, but it is also equitable and just to slay tyrants. For he who receives the sword deserves to perish by the sword.
"But 'receives' is to be understood to pertain to he who has rashly usurped that which is not his, now he who receives what he uses from the power of God. He who receives power from God serves the laws and is the slave of justice and right. He who usurps power suppresses justice and places the laws beneath his will. Therefore, justice is deservedly armed against those who disarm the law, and the public power treats harshly those who endeavour to put aside the public hand. And, although there are many forms of high treason, none is of them is so serious as that which is executed against the body of justice itself. Tyranny is, therefore, not only a public crime, but if this can happen, it is more than public. For if all prosecutors may be allowed in the case of high treason, how much more are they allowed when there is oppression of laws which should themselves command emperors? Surely no one will avenge a public enemy, and whoever does not prosecute him transgresses against himself and against the whole body of the earthly republic." This is why the whole house is all up for election every two years. The founders well understood the perils of a unicameral legislature, and unchecked evil in place for longer terms. Bicameral with the 2/6 terms and a prez with the 4 year term really is about perfect. Total catastrophes of prez or senate can be checked within 2 years, and the longer term prez and senate can check an out of control house. Pete, if the other side played by the Marquis of Queensbury rules, then I'd agree with you. But they don't. They never refrain from uttering the most vile and hateful things about our guys and their families. Like the "slutty" Bush daughters. Or John Kerry using Cheney's gay daughter as a weapon against him. Or prattling on and on about how Laura Bush is a "murderer". And let's not even talk about the hell that Sarah Palin and her family has been through. So yeah calling Michelle Obama a Wookie and a Klingon is tactless. But at least she is actively involved in her husband's political campaigns. She is a part of Obama's administration just like Hillary was to Bill. She puts herself out there as a part of the Obama image; she's not the wallflower that Laura Bush was. And of course the press just goes right along. I'd also add that I haven't seen anyone here go after Obama's daughters, which is as it should be. We do have some standards after all, which is way more than can be said about the left. No doubt if Obama was an R, then the sick leftists would be following around Sasha and Malia too in order to dig up dirt on their dad. Posted by: chemjeff at June 28, 2009 11:45 PM (sqtL/) 169

I was thinking about visiting Belize on vacation this year. Then I found out about its two-cups-and-string telephone monopoly, its 30 per 100,000 murder rate (Houston is considered "bad" at 15), the indifference of its police force and the resentful scorn Belizeans have for Americans. I read the State Department warnings and the Fodors Guide's continual harping on how personal safety is paramount. Found out about the two hotel owners who got murdered a few months ago, and the female tourist who got raped. And Belize's beaches are rocky, too. I t'ink it be de Barbadoes for me instead denn. So the leader of a foreign nation violates both their Constitution and defies their Supreme Court and Congress? Sounds like Obama's got a new BFF.
Obama did throw a hissy fit, right? I mean he isn't going to actually do anything about it; he has no idea of what to do about anything except throw a hissy-cow, but he did that, right? "President Barack Obama said he was "deeply concerned" and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Zelaya's arrest should be condemned." Oh crap, guys you've made him "deeply concerned" now. You won't like him when he's "deeply concerned". He might disinvite you to a weenie roast (eventually) or even possibly say some things that might be considered "not nice" if you keep this up. "I call on all political and social actors in Honduras to respect democratic norms, the rule of law and the tenets of the Inter-American Democratic Charter," Obama's statement read... And their Constitution, Congress, and/or Supreme Court? Not part of the "rule of law" I guess, or democratic norms. Weird how that works, it looks like the democratic norms and rule of law would only support a dictatorship when Obama sees them. Posted by: Gekkobear at June 29, 2009 12:42 AM (BgGDQ) 182

They should have lined him up against a wall and shot him, not send him off to Costa Rica where he can be a poster child for the scummy left.

Dictators of a feather, stick together. Man, you guys and Repubs need to prepare yourself for this next election. You talk like all it takes is more votes. Are you forgetting bambi made sure his ACORN thugs got billions. they have 3 years to perfect voter fraud. Do not underestimate them. Don't forget, those black panthers just stood out there infront of the polling place and got away with it. I expect the voter fraud to be 100 times worse than it was in 2008. They have a boatload of money, union thugs and lots of time to plot. Plus those nice Democrat SOS and governors and senators that looked the other way when it was happening. Or worse, defended the outright fraud going on. It's gonna be ugly, don't get caught unprepared. Look at Brunner, she helped them commit fruad openly and nothing was done Posted by: Jody at June 29, 2009 03:05 AM (gO/fI) 187

That's one of the cardinal rules if you want your coup to succeed long term - the deposed crew can't be allowed to survive and organize come back tours. Lenin got it right by greasing the Czar and all the family they could round up. He got it right again with the Trotsky murder. The Shah of Iran got it wrong allowing Khomeini to thrive in Paris all those years. As a practical political matter, he should have been whacked early on. Instead, he mounted a come back tour and we're where we are today. Posted by: Purple Avenger at June 29, 2009 04:47 AM (KvnvW) 189
I only hope Our military is taking notes. If that's all it takes what the hell are they waiting for.

If Obama was a Republican, the left would be taking bets on just when his daughters would become knocked up crack hos. They would be obsessed. Kind of like the left making fun of the Palin kids, ya know? They would be treated like crap. I have heard plenty of cracks on MO, (as she is a grown up), but I haven't heard anyone making fun of his kids, nor should they.

But is it really a "coup"? Don't you lose your claim on rule of law if you do that? Posted by: blackrockmarauder at June 29, 2009 07:17 AM (GvgvT) 192
Yes, Hugo Chavez hates military coups. Because he lost the one he tried to launch, you see. Terrible tactic. Hates it. Posted by: Entropy at June 29, 2009 08:07 AM (m6c4H) Posted by: Barry the Extrordinary at June 29, 2009 08:22 AM (RkRxq) 194

Belize is where cougars go to buy young men and buckets of Columbian blow. My husband worked with a woman who went every New Year, and I've known some old women who are down with the package deal. Actually, on the walkie talkies at the husband's old job, that was the cougar's handle... Black Cock Down. Posted by: Tattoo De Plane at June 29, 2009 09:28 AM (m4hZ+) 195
