Buffett on Tax and Trade: "It's a Huge, Regressive Tax"

"it's a huge tax and there's no sense calling it anything else. I mean, it is a tax. So it -- and it's a fairly regressive tax."

Well no shit Warren.

In same, David Axelrod explains lies about how this increase does not affect the poor. Because they'll pay less for energy or some nonsense, dissembling and ignoring the fact that we all pay x for a kilowatt and y for a gallon, promising they'll get help with their energy bill.

that reason. In 2020, and for lower income people, it actually will be a net gain because they'll get some help with their energy bill. So I think this is a phony issue.

And the real issue is, what is the Republican strategy for creating jobs? This bill actually, they call it a job killer, it will create millions of green jobs, the jobs of the future. We've lost millions of jobs in the recession that began last year and continues.

1 Someone needs to put Axelrod on the down side of Astroturf (i.e. the pushing up daisies side!).  That little turd is responsible for giving us our current embarrassment known as The President.  I'd give my left nut for some real journalism.  If we had real journalist, this fucking retard wouldn't have a job because without a friendly press corps, he would be fucking laughed off of the stage.

Yup, millions of maroons living in the wrong zone for optimum solar gain will take a tax deduction to spend more money than they should to buy something that will underperform for far less than its life expectancy. That'll fix the economy.

Gawd, this is Jimmy Carter all over again. Where is our next Ronald Reagan to laugh at this clown and put him in his place?

5 It would be nice if we had something like an independent media to ask some tough questions.  Like, why not just give everyone a shovel and have them make money by digging holes in their back yard and filling them back in.  We could  have 100% employment tomorrow if we did that.  Yeah, there is no market for such work and the government will have to foot the bill roughly for forever but that is really no different than all of the green jobs we are creating.  It also has the virtue of being more honest.

The kicker is that even the proponents admit that all of this will have absolutely no measurable effect on the CO2 in the atmosphere.  We are doing it just to appease the votaries of the state religion.

The country has had a psychotic break with reality.

9 I will take grim satisfaction that the 52% are gonna get rat fucked. Big time.

I can just go off into the woods and drop a couple trees and heat my home quite nicely. Electric bill is no biggy for me. The bigger problem is that every business with freshly impoverished employees has to either:
1. Raise prices to pay them more money
2. Go out of business
3. Lay off employees to pay more dollars to fewer employees
Which will either:
1. Cause massive inflation
2. Cause massive unemployment
3. Cause stagflation

I hope Obama realizes his 'legacy' will be a bunch of legislation that gets repealed in 2012.

10 is anyone watching axelrod on stephanolp?

axelrod is truly evil - and georgie is blowing, didnt even push back at all on axelrod fraud re
"job creation" under cap and tax.

the difference between georgie on conservative guests ( i saw him attack and follow up pushing back on romney last week) and libs is stark.

Posted by: Anti-Harkonnen Freedom Fighter at June 28, 2009 10:07 AM (5r0Tz)

11 Axelrod is still an idiot.  Most poor and lower middle class folks live in homes built years ago with substandard insulation and pay significantly MORE for their heat or air (if they have air conditioning). This is just another of the Donks programs to keep them poor and in a position to have their vote bought by the Democrats by giving them a little government stipend.  If the government can increase the number of people dependent on it, the Democrats can cruise to victory for years to come and the country is doomed.

I heard or read (I can't remember which need to go and find it) that the poor will actually get a monthly deposit right into their bank acct of choice that will offset the increase in the energy bill.

It's partisan, because our side is right, while your side keeps the poor firmly in their place, neck under your bootheel, with no chance of improving their situations. We care about the poor, while Dems exploit poverty.

Why don't we just admit that EVERY FUCKING BILL passed by this congress so far this session costs the middle class money and liberty?

And the 40% of americans who pay no taxes will never, ever care where the money comes from, cuz it ain't from them.  Still, allowances are made deep in the bowels of said bills to protect the "lower income folks" from the financial hardships created by these bills.  Like Assholerod says in the interview " and for lower income people, it actually will be a net gain because they'll get some help with their energy bill".

If I hadn't been promised by our president that we now live in a post-racial society, I'd start to think that these bills represent "reparations" of some sort.

Thank God that isn't the case...our president told us so.

Oh yeah, and don't think WE ain't keeping score too, brother.

41 Rush was all over this on Friday. Basically said this whole cap and trade fiasco (as opposed to the spendulous fiasco, and the bailout fiascos) is about wealth redistribution.

In other words.... your (and my) electric/gas bill doubles or triples every month. You (and I) pay our bills. Money (including our money) is then direct deposited in the accounts of those deemed "poor" by the administration to ease the burden on them.

Our burden?

Not so important.

Goodbye middle class.

As for green jobs, Spain is shaking their heads, because they tried this already, and for every green job created, I believe they said two or maybe three regular industry jobs were lost. And by the way, it took some astronomical amount of money, like several million dollars, to create ONE green job.

How much longer will the middle class taxpayer be able to pay for all of this before they run out of money?

Last year at this time, my family's income use to cover all bills and give us enough for eating fast food once a week, and going yard saling every few weeks.

Now, we cancelled the paper, cut back on cable extras, etc., etc.

That is just 1 family no longer being able to support local jobs with our 'disposable income'.

It is not hard to figure out why we are losing tons of jobs weekly.  The middle class family can no longer spend.  If I can figure that out, why can't they.

The sad part is I know that when family's spend, lots of jobs are substained because we all buy different things.  When the gov't spends only a few jobs are kept because they spend it on a very limited amount of things.

"People have no idea what this is going to do to the cost of basic food...Better get your victory gardens going because wheat, meat, and dairy are going to cost a lot more."

Not just food. Everything grown, manufactured and transported consumes energy. Everything. That's why this section of the bill below, posted by Trish, is important.

"At the request of the State agency, eligible low-income households within the State shall receive a monthly cash energy refund equal to the estimated loss in purchasing power resulting from this Act."

This is not just a refund to offset the increase in a low income person's electric bill. It is to offset the total "loss in purchasing power." This might possibly be the biggest welfare program ever created. Spread the wealth.

Obama concerned over expulsion of Honduran leader HONDURAS-PRESIDENT/OBAMA (URGENT)

WASHINGTON, June 28 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama expressed deep concern on Sunday at the Honduran military's arrest and expulsion of President Manuel Zelaya from the country.

"As the Organization of American States did on Friday, I call on all political and social actors in Honduras to respect democratic norms, the rule of law and the tenets of the Inter-American Democratic Charter," Obama said in a statement.

"Any existing tensions and disputes must be resolved peacefully through dialogue free from any outside interference," he said. (Editing by Patrick Rucker)

I wonder if the numbers include corporate income taxes -- I suspect the fact that corporations tend to be headquartered in large cities skews the numbers quite a bit, and if you limited it to personal income taxes it would flow the other way.

If, that is, the numbers weren't pulled out of someone's ass in the first place.

(And I also wonder what lefties think they're proving with that argument. "You guys want to cut taxes, taxes that get spent on YOU!!!" Yes, and? Doesn't that make us altruistic? Doesn't that mean we hold to our belief in the immorality of over-taxation even when we benefit from it? And if cutting government spending and taxes truly would harm us, shouldn't you be for it, if only to teach us the lesson?)

Obama sends condolence letter to Jackson family

President Barack Obama, who was faulted in some quarters for his slow and informal acknowledgement of singer Michael Jackson's death, has sent written condolences to Jackson's family, an Obama adviser said Sunday.

"The president has written the family and has shared his feelings with the family," Obama senior adviser David Axelrod said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Axelrod suggested Obama was prepared to recognize Jackson at a press availability Friday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, but the aide said no reporter raised Jackson's death.

The White House rebuffed reporters' requests for comment from soon after Jackson's death Thursday through Friday afternoon, when White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs offered brief comments at a daily briefing.

"The president obviously believes that he was an important and magnificent performer," Axelrod said on NBC. "Obviously, he led a sad life in many ways as well but his impact is undeniable."

I also have some Christian missionary friends that we can send down to Honduras to eliminate any non-Christian religion as well.  Perhaps we can open some factories there that manufacture Christian religious icons and Confederate flags and tobacco. Okay, okay, I get worked up about this - I apologize for that outburst.  Sorry.  In point of fact, I have a good deal of shipping material that was used in transporting nuclear waste to my illegal dumping sites (I make nuclear weapons as part of my illegal arms shipments - I'm the best in the business).  I have good reason to believe a large portion of it is tainted, and if we give it to the orphans, the excessive amounts of radiation may give them superhuman powers, thus increasing their productivity ten-fold.

(BTW, don't worry about the nuclear weapons. I only ship them to Israel and the Pope--Opus Dei has a stash like you wouldn't believe)

2. Sanford - sneaking off to hook up with a hot argentinian chick - not having a kid with her, not making sex tapes, and not having an aide take the fall for it - and honestly admitting he loves his hot argentinian chick.

fucking eh.

NY daily news:

St. Martin's Press just inked a deal with Young, who also says in his proposal that, contrary to his public statement last year, he is not the father of Hunter’s infant daughter — Edwards is. Edwards has denied that.

Young says that his belief in Edwards ran so deep that he agreed to take the fall for the candidate, inviting the pregnant Hunter to live with him, his wife, Cheri, and their three children. Later, after Hunter delivered the baby, Young and his family moved to a different home in California.

While he was unpacking, Young discovered a videocassette, according to the book pitch. Hunter had been hired by the Edwards campaign to videotape the candidate’s movements, but this one is said to have shown him taking positions that weren’t on his official platform.

The purported sex tape confirmed to Hunter that Edwards was even more reckless than he thought.

According to our source, Hunter confided to Young that she and Edwards talked about getting married should the candidate’s cancer-stricken wife, Elizabeth, pass away, even discussing what music they’d play at their wedding.

147 So remember when one of the big British papers ran a headline to the effect of how can X million people be so stupid when they voted for Bush in 04?

It seems a significant percentage of the people that voted for Obama had no clue what they were in fact voting for.

And based on his approval ratings versus the approval ratings of his policies, the 52% are mostly still committed to sticking their heads in the sand.

Oh, and could we for once have a politician who tacks further right then anyone expected after elected? Bush did the same thing as Obama - he just went from a center-right campaign to a centrist presidency whereas Obama went from a centrist campaign (tax cuts for everyone) to an extreme left presidency.

Out of the various 'Great Powers' that were involved in Iran in the 19th and 20th century, the US was the most helpful and least exploitative.

Even the UK/UK-engineered bloodless coup against the democratically elected Mossadegh in the '50's was, to the dispassionate eye, justified given the potential humanitarian disaster resulting from a possible Soviet takeover of Iran.

re: carbon taxes
The AGW theory is, scientifically, dead in the water.
At some point soon, the political 'consensus' keeping it afloat will fall apart.

171 Remember Mossadegh was no freakin' Thomas Paine. Leftards' favorite source, Wikipedia:

According to Ervand Abrahamian: "Realizing that the opposition would take the vast majority of the provincial seats, Mossadeq stopped the voting as soon as 79 deputies – just enough to form a parliamentary quorum — had been elected."[21] An alternative account is offered by Stephen Kinzer. Beginning in the early 1950s under the guidance of C.M. Woodhouse, chief of the British intelligence station in Tehran, Britain's covert operations network had funneled roughly £10,000 per month to the Rashidian brothers (two of Iran's most influential royalists) in the hope of buying off, according to CIA estimates, "the armed forces, the Majlis (Iranian parliament), religious leaders, the press, street gangs, politicians and other influential figures".[22] Thus, in his statement asserting electoral manipulation by "foreign agents", Mossadeq suspended the elections. His National Front party had made up 30 of the 79 deputies elected. Yet none of those present vetoed the statement, and the elections were postponed indefinitely. The 17th Majlis convened on February 1952.

So in true leftard democratic fashion, his answer to British meddling was to... suspend elections. And he arm-twisted the Parliament into giving him unlimited "emergency" powers. Yeah, a real pacifist, feel-good Ben Franklin, he was.

174 Warren Buffet has great credibility because he has great wealth. In this country, people are attracted to these fuckers because they think they know something that the rest of us do not.

The translation is simple. Great wealth must mean great intelligence.

Nothing could be further from the truth. One does not beget the other nor does one exclude the other. Warren Buffett is an intelligent investor. That's it. He is not Einstein or Ayn Rand. He does embody greed and ego and good values at the same time which I view as an enigma. The deal he carved out with Goldman Sachs is a thing of beauty.

In the end, Warren is just another greedy cocksucker. He who dies with the most toys still dies.

The ratings agency has calculated privately that the UK's public sector debt could quadruple from its current level of just over 50pc of economic output to 200pc or above within the next four decades as the cost of servicing public sector pensions, ballooning social security costs and healthcare burdens becomes overwhelming, The Sunday Telegraph has learned.

The warning is doubly sobering since S&P last month placed Britain's debt on to "negative outlook" – an explicit signal that it could soon be downgraded.

The agency said that unless Britain and its fellow leading Western nations took action to stem these costs, "the ratings of the high grade sovereigns would be very different."

The Democrats aided by Acorn insisted everyone should have a home whether they could afford it or not, just so they could aquiesce votes and then had to use billions to bail out the banks that provided those loans after they were defaulted on.

The Democrats insisted we should use billions to bail out the auto industry so they could keep their reliable fat cat union voters gainfully employed.

The Democrats just passed the largest welfare legislation in history disguised as an energy bill that will mostly benefit it's voter base and harm the rights voter base.

"Augustus would unintentionally put the tax at too high a rate, discounting the distress caused by a bad harvest or a cattle plague or an earthquake; and rather than complain to him that the assessment was too high the governors would collect it to the last penny, even at the risk of a revolt. Few of them took any personal interest in the people they were supposed to govern."

Just as our Czars. And our oppressors understand this feminized, homosexualized and castrated citizenry wouldn't dare demand accountability from their overlords.

222 I'm sorry, can somebody please explain to me why I bother to work hard when I could be a lazy shiftless ne'r-do-well and get the same net result?

Because no matter the circumstances you just can't bring yourself to slip on the slave collar, "volunteer" for ACORN, and get in line to fellate your local SEIU boss.

As an American citizen, the notion that your rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are not some privileges granted by a state to be bargained away but rather an inalienable endowment far beyond the ken of corrupt politicians, is too deeply ingrained.

I'm sorry to break it to you but you are just not built for this brave new world.  Individual human dignity always gums up the works of totalitarian utopian schemes and brother you have it in spades.

If you cannot degrade yourself to a dependent serf-like status on your own (and Billy Ayers was right about people like you being incapable of this type of perversion) some other means will have to suffice to aid in the transition.

223 The only way for the cap and trade tax to work is for the people who'll net pay the tax (remember there are provisions to give rebates to lower income people) continue to work hard.  Conversely, the only way for it to collapse is to have those people who net pay the tax to quit working so hard, or in extreme, go John Galt.  Then the only solution is to pass the higher taxes on to the middle class, and expect The One™ to redefine middle and upper class.

Will the tipping point for going John Galt occur, and if so, when?

Perhaps the biggest fantasy maintained by you "conservatives" is that the Red states somehow pay their own way instead the reality of their dependence on massive subsidies from the Blue states to survive.

States don't pay taxes.

230 The Congressional Budjet Office says that the average American household will pay an extra 150 bucks a year.

Posted by: John ryan at June 28, 2009 12:38 PM (ra54m)

231 This whole "blue states subsidize red states" thing is just another liberal misrepresentation.  First, it is generally true that red states get more money back than they pay in, and blue states the reverse (although the #1 recipient state is the newly blue state of New Mexico, not exactly a hot bed of right-wing conservatism).  The net amount, according to Krugman (grain-of-salt alert), is approximately $90 billion per year.  Put in perspective that represents about 5% of Obama's deficit this year.  For a Democrat, this is pocket change.

The snarky implication of course is that Republicans are living hypocritically off the toil of Democrats.  This is just not true.  The issue really isn't an ideological one at all.

First these statistics count every single dollar that goes in or out.  So a place like Montana counts as "heavily subsidized" because most of the state is actually owned by the federal government, so all the money spent to maintain that land counts as a "subsidy" to Montanans.  The people of Montana see very little benefit from that "subsidy" so it is disingenuous to suggest that Montanans are living high off the hog because of it.  It also counts things like farm subsidies.  Guess what, states that have lots of farms get lots of farm subsidies, and these happen to be red states.  If they were blue states they'd still be heavily subsidized.  The only political divide here is whether there ought to be farm subsidies, but I think there's pretty clear agreement that if we are to have farm subsidies, they ought to go to farms regardless if they are in red states or blue states.  And guess what, a large number of Republicans opposed farm subsidies because they are wasteful and a corruptive influence on government.  Guess who first initiated farm subsidies?  That's right, the liberal FDR.

And it also counts subsidies that happen to go to a particular state, but benefit all Americans more or less equally.  Such as military spending (a majority of military installations are in red states, but the benefits we get from the military we all enjoy), and national laboratories.  I guarantee the reason why New Mexico is #1 on the subsidy list is because they have 2 huge national labs.  The people of New Mexico don't benefit any more than the rest of us from the research these labs conduct.  And it ALSO counts entitlement spending like Social Security and Medicare - guess what, there's more old people in warmer red states than colder blue states, so they get more SS & Medicare dollars.  That's not some nefarious Republican plot to extort more federal tax money from Democrats, that's the result of these people making free choices.

And what is your point anyway?  You don't really have one only to level the charge of "hypocrisy".  That's it.  That's your entire intellectual point.  So, let us suppose for the sake of argument that all of us red-staters are in fact giant hypocrites.  So what?  Does that mean we should keep the subsidies going?  Does that do anything to correct the injustice that you perceive?  No and no.  Your only point is to call us names.  And yet you all are the ones who claim to be the "smart", "nuanced" ones.

Again I can't believe we lost to these guys.

235 What's telling for me after 8 years of lefties/democrats/loons screaming conniptions about the "fascist Bush regime", is watching as the democrats who control both the legislative and executive branches set up precedent for an ability to push an Enabling Act through the legislative process - what with their blank check placeholders within bills that shall not be read (much less digested) before being voted on and such.

...Add the accelerated expansion of central government's regulatory control down to municipal and even household levels never envisioned or enumerated within our Constitution. Add the recent dissemination of an official security apparatus directive naming domestic opposition political/ideological forces as potential terrorist threats to be watched, the massive income/earning/ownership redistribution schemes to benefit constituent voting blocs, the emergence of race and class based patriotism, a compliant if not complicit press, and top the whole mess off with our executive default moral support for socialist would-be dictators, and one would be hard pressed not to suspect that the democrat party has morphed into a national socialist machine of sorts.

I think Buffet did not do his due dilligence on The One and is now seeing that he got snookered (use the rich white guy to pick up some moderate voters) - just like a growing number of the 52.7% that are seeing the bold faced lies that The One made in the campaign.

Taxing soft drinks - Buffet owns stock in Coke

Tax and Crap - Buffet owns stock in railway companies which transport coal.  Coal provides 50% of our electricity.

Health Care - Buffet owns stock in Johnson and Johnson.  The government will surely mandate lower prices from providers regardless of the consequences of artificially reduced costs (think price - quality - service: pick any two)

Maybe Buffet thought there would just be more Wal-Mart shoppers, not thinking of why.  Plus he could cleanse himself of white guilt by standing with the coffee guy.

Consider Obama's past actions when he gave the finger to McCain and Hillary, told Republicans "I won" when they came to negotiate with him, and sent the Walmart top 25 DVD collection as a state gift to the Brits, etc. He is the master of the subtle FU.

His stated reason for wanting a tax cheat to head the Treasury was to save the economy, something Obama hasn't cared about since, and Timmy has failed to do. So, why then pick the tax cheat? Because it is a big FU to the taxpayers who voted against Obama...

@All this solar energy is bullshit.  Expensive and useless

Right on.  30 years ago, I voted for Barry Commoner for president, in part because he was an advocate of solar power.  It seemed like a good idea at the time. I researched it then, and read a lot about it.  Commoner made the case that even though it was expensive then, increased investment and usage would bring the cost down proportionately, as with other new technologies.

30 years later, solar power still not found a significant market.  It is not efficient on a large scale.  And in places where solar panel fields could be erected, other groups of greenies oppose it because it interferes with nice views and habitats.

291 I don't buy the whole red states make less than blue states. Yes, blue staters usually have better incomes but I would say a state like Texas (red) has better living standards. In Texas most people have a nice sized homes w/good sized yards and it doesn't cost $500,000 to have all that.  Texans also don't rely on public transportation and the unemployment rate here in Texas is much better than NY or Cali. So I think it is crap that blue states are paying for red staters. In fact from what I hear that people from blue states are moving to Texas in droves!!!

Amen to that.  I would rather buy a modest home for a modest price and have a decent income, instead of having to buy a crappy home for an outrageous price, but have a huge income with a 3-hour daily commute into the city.

I have a friend who lives in Bayonne, NJ.  He works in Manhattan.  The straight-line distance from his house to his place of work is probably something like 20-30 miles.    It takes him 1.5 HOURS EACH WAY to get there.  I don't care if they paid me a million bucks a year, I could not stand that kind of commute.

like all idealogy it is neither true or false. It is an opinion that has no relevance until it bears fruits in the form of lost work product and the slavery of men as their work product is stripped from them. In many ways, I see politics as a continuation of the class warfare that has existed between management and labor. Management has tipped the scales, by inviting government to be their facilitator. In so doing they have invited the devil in.

No man is more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free-Von Goethe

Free men is what we aspire to be. We see those freedoms stripped from us and in that respect...well then...

Poon, I'm not seeing any numbers backing up these assertions.

I'm probably lower middle class. I get off easy as far as federal income taxes are concerned (compared to other people). Some of us actually care about the soundness of the economy. Some of us would actually don't want to be serfs in Obama's fiefdom. According to the CBS News, 43% of all Americans are outside the federal tax system. That's not sustainable. At 39%, the US has one of the highest corporate taxes among developed nations, with a byzantine tax code that allows for all manner of sheltering. So if your an established American company, you can pay attorneys (whose fees you will pass onto your customers and will eat away at new productive jobs) to find all those loopholes to get out of paying as much as you can. If you are a new company, not so much. If you're a foreign company, you'll probably avoid the hassle all together.

As to the blue states subsidizing red states, do you have a breakdown as how those actually paying federal income taxes are voting? Did you know according the the Tax Foundation 80% of Alaska residents pay federal income taxes?

I have advocated higher taxes on lawyers.

My reasons are as follows: (1) lawyers produce no economic benefit, indeed the reduction in lawsuits would result in a boon in economic activity, (2) lawyers only benefit from the legal system that is provided to them by the people and as such, for any to get rich off of that system is corruption, (3) lawyers make so much as to dissuade young people from productive activity, such as medicine or engineering and (4) if you require that lawyers pay taxes before anyone else, tax increases will never again pass.

Actually, I have no problem with red states revolting and simply not shipping food to coastal liberal states.  It would trigger a whole new industry writing new cookbooks on how to prepare wharf rat stew, vacant lot vegi salads, and roof top arugula.

Actually, the food all comes from the VERY red part of California. The #1 Ag County in the US has Republican representation at the State Senate, Assembly and House levels. Almost none of the food comes from the blue areas.

269 All this solar energy is bullshit.  Expensive and useless.  Wait till they find out what the upkeep on this crap is.  You don't just set up the expensive panels and walk away and POOF! magic energy.  They have to be cleaned quite a bit and maintained.  I guess this is where the "green" jobs come in....glorified window washers.

Not to mention that those solar farms take up a lot of real estate out in those "sensitive desert areas" that the Sierra Club and Nature Conservancy are screaming about preserving.

All Hail the King Dude!

331 Actually, I think too many people pay federal income tax.

Everybody.  Everybody should pay federal income tax, even if only a token amount.

Nobody should be paying a federal income tax. We should be paying a federal sales tax, collected at the cash register, and not a VAT. If we had a 10-15% Federal Sales tax, the Feds would make a whole lot more money, and there wouldn't be a whole rush between January 30 and April 15 to get 1040's and their state equivalents filed. It would also capture a lot of the black and gray market monies that are floating around. Drug dealers still need to buy food and cars.

338 Hey, Axelfuck, the Republicans can't do shit, so shut the fuck up and start taking responsibility for what your Muslim asswipe boss is doing.

Don't hold back, Mike... Let us know exactly how you feel...

I'm counting down the days until the 2010 elections, when we can throw out the whole bunch of traitors to America, and 2012, when we can throw out the Communist-in-Chief.

352 The "blue states make, red states take" meme comes from a report by the Tax Foundation (taxfoundation.org). This is the report that has "red states" being highly subsidized (naturally, it ignores DC).

I'd suggest a read. The biggest hole in methodology is that they apportion the federal deficit according to income taxes. While it _may_ be true that those same blue states will wind up paying the majority of taxes in the future, it might be best to actually wait until it comes to pass before calling it a "fact".

You have to look on the bright side of this Cap and Trade Tax bill.  Yes, there is a bright side.  This bill will ensure that there will be no economic recovery before the 2010 elections.  Every political party except the Democrats should benefit from this outcome in 2010.  And I would submit that if the R's take control of the Congress in 2010 that they not immediately revoke this legislation as it will make certain that there will be no economic turnaround before 2012.  Then when those other than the Dem's are in control of the House, Senate, and White House after the 2012 elections they can rescind this bill and all of the other crappy bills that the Dem's have passed since the 2008 elections.  In other words, do to them exactly what they have done to us.
