Obama Considers Holding Some Gitmo Detainees Indefinitely? How About Union Workers Don't Pay Taxes on Health Care Benefits, but the Rest of Us Do?

Gah. Ok, let's debate this one.

As has been noted. A private insurer, a business, must hold financial reserves that the "public" option will not be bothered with. A private insurer must negotiate rates, the "public" option can dictate them (they already do).

Wonderful. Now let's tax the shit out of those who have a private plan, except for our rock-solid voting bloc.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, the chief congressional advocate of taxing some employer-provided benefits to help pay for an overhaul of the U.S. health system, says any change should exempt perks secured in existing collective- bargaining agreements, which can be in place for as long as five years.

I believe this is called "rubbing your face in it".

How is there not mass protests in DC yet?  How are O and Pelosi not being blamed?  Shit dude riding drunk on a lawn mower got in more hot water than these fuckers will ever see.

When I was putting my 3 year old son to bed, I was asked today why I was crying.  I told him I really love America and I want him to love it to.  He told me that he really does love it because our soldiers protect him and keep his freedoms safe.  It breaks my heart that my 3 year old has more love for 'His' Country than the leaders of this great nation.  I really had to fight my instinct to apologize to him.

I'm sorry son (and daughter).

wait, let me get this right.  the contracts companies signed with unions are null and void. can anyone tell me what happens when a corporation breaks its agreement?  are you telling me that contracts no longer have any value in this country.

i often joke about the democrats, but i am living to see something i never thought i would see in america. if we are going to be facists, i might as well live in europe. whats the point of working if i can't keep what i earn, whats the point of paying for my health insurance, if my care will get worse as a result of public  healthcare, whats the point of bettering myself if failing will be rewarded.

again i know we joke a lot here, i do too, but if a state succeeded, i would say goodbye to my parents, sisters, nephews, take all my weapons, money, goods, and car and head to that state. i don't care if i had to work like a puritan , i would be free.

26 Yeh, son, I remember this one week. It was in the midst of the second most severe economic crisis in history, see.  One that the so called President at the time tried to borrow his way out of.  Didn't work the first time in the crash of 29.  But this guy thought everyone loved him as much as he did and he could get away with it.
Then there were these crazy religious nuts who had held Iran hostage for nigh on fourty years.  The people, smelling freedom, decided to revolt... America did nothing.  Yeah, that's right. Nothing.
And then the President see, he goes on TV (a TV channel gave the guy the time, believe it or not) to sell this socialized medicine scheme to the people.  I tell ya, the guy was one radical dude.
Then three famous stars die all in one week.  One week!  Tragic.  Then this bone head republican dude screws up a promising career - for what?  A shot of strange.   That's what.
Well in the midst of all this, the President tries to ram down this insanely expensive environmental program, based on sketchy science, that would almost surely bankrupt the country all by it self, let alone all the other bone head socialist ideas he had.  Hell he even managed to convince a few Republicans to go along with it, if you can believe that.  They didn't last long.
And that ain't all.  On top of all of this, he tries to sell this scheme where anyone belonging to a union, they wouldn't have to participate in the socialized health care.  They could actually get good medical treatment. Can you believe it?

Pa, now I know your lying.  No country in the world has people that stupid!

We're looking more and more like a go.

I think the borders are defined by the rivers. All of the land that feeds all of the water that flows into the gulf of Mexico should be included. And that's a good portion of Florida too.

I think you can do up a new bill of rights that would be even better than the last one, leaving some of the USA's bill of rights exactly in place, but actually mean them this time.

And I'm getting more and more serious about it all the time, either that or get myself a couple of hundred acres of land and go completely off the grid. And someone mentioned earlier that land in Texas would be a great investment, because if they do declare sovereignty, the value of that land doubles or triples over night.

#37 Mr. Jackson....You know that the Bill of Rights applies only to the federal government and that the 14th supposedly made the Bill of Rights applicable to the States. But, there's a game that the pin heads play with the Ole' 14th where they selectively decide whether each Right is "really" applicable to the States. Ya' know...they seem to have a problem with that 2nd one, but I digress.

A better question might be what ever happened to the limitation on the items for which Congress could tax & spend under Article I, Section 8? If they can't spend it under Section 8, they can't tax for it.

Hmmm..... I guess somewhere along the line that list didn't make the "cut & paste" mark-up.....

67 Methos - It's an attractive argument, but to succeed at the federal level you'd have to argue that the 5th Amendment taking prohibition is as applicable to the fed tax rate structure as it is to property condemnation. I just don't think you can get there.

Posted by: oneyedman at June 26, 2009 10:34 PM (A2uXF)

On the debate end of things, this really puts the whammy on right to work states.  I guess they won't be right to work for long -- what are all those foreign companies with plants over here going to do?  I can't see the foreign automakers being too thrilled about hiring UAW guys, with their "sterling" work reputations and pay/bennie packages.  This means what eventually?  Those plants get taken over by Gov Motors and staffed with union workers?

Not that I'm sad for all those foreign companies and foreign countries with manufacturing interest in this country -- most of them salivated over prez opposite; I think they're finding out what his ass does indeed taste like, but we get to take the first bite -- and it sucks, man, it sucks.

88 Greetings:

I live out in the San Francisco Bay area. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system is in contract negotiations with its unions. A woman "organizer" for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) was on the TV news the other night and her statement (call to arms?) went something like this: "We're not greedy private sector employees; we serve the public."

OK, if you say so. But I'm thinking she serves them like the aliens in that "Twilight Zone" story.

90 #32, there is no paratrooper variant of the M1 Garand. The T26, often referred to as the "Tanker", was designed for jungle warfare in the South Pacific and only a dozen or so original prototypes were made. None are known to have survived. The postwar models are often in 7.62mm NATO, and since it involves cutting and bending a GI operating rod your smith better know his shit.

There is a folding-stock paratrooper version of the Italian BM59, the Garand's pasta-eating postwar relative, and of the M1 Carbine (the M1A1, seen in Band of Brothers at the Brecourt Manor fight). Both are rare and more expensive than they're worth in a fight unless you had to exit an airplane while in flight to get to the fight.

A standard Garand is 9.5 pounds loaded, eight shot .30'06 semiauto, and you have no prayer of feeding it off battlefield pickup ammo. I stocked heavily for mine and I admit I'll be black on rounds for it 90 days in and will be stuck with my 5.56mm's since that's what I can resupply off the enemy.

We know CIAfindr can't spell.  The word is "farce."

Besides, everybody knows GWB and his brothers personally carried explosives into the WTC and blew it up.  Those airplane illusions, those were David Copperfield.  Get a grip, man.  You're giving conspiracy theory a bad name.
