Mullahs Join Anti-Mullah Protests
One Candidate Withdraws His Complaint Over Vote
Update: Teheran Tianamen; Massacre?

Above the Fold Update: CNN reports "mousetrap" executed by thugs; protesters beaten "like animals."

Some truly harrowing claims on Twitter. As always, never sure whether these reports are true. Though CNN reports at least some of it is.

Allah's always a glass is half full kind of guy:

Horrible. But on the bright side, now Obama’s got a conversation icebreaker for that July 4th barbecue.

"You should help us, you should help us, you should help the people of Iran:" An eyewitness to the massacre tearfully describes it, and begs President Johnny Hot-Dogs for Hope and Change.

...

Turning point? Or, rather, another turning point?

Ed Morrissey notes they're protesting the corrupt system which gives themselves undue power and privilege -- so they're either really outraged over the regime's behavior, or they realize the best way to maintain their power and privilege is to be on the side of the protesters.

Either way, it's not good for Bammy's BFFs.

Complaint Withdrawn: They're getting to some people, though. Some had hoped this former Revolutionary Guard commander would help divide that organizatiton and keep it on the sidelines, or even assist in removing the mullahs from power.

One of three presidential candidates who challenged Iran's June 12 election said he is withdrawing his complaint, Iran's state media reported Wednesday.
Mohsen Rezaei, a former Revolutionary Guards commander, officially captured less than 2 percent of the vote in the disputed election in which President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared the landslide winner over his nearest challenger, moderate Mir Hossein Mousavi. Mousavi, Rezaei and reformist cleric Mehdi Karroubi alleged widespread vote-rigging immediately after the election, sparking large-scale protests.

In withdrawing his complaint to the Guardian Council, which oversees Iran's elections, , The Wall Street Journal said.

Now I'm confused -- Did Obama's Cairo Speech inspire this too, or is it only the good stuff?

Graphic Pictures: 17 Year Old Tortured in Iran for Protesting. He says he actually hadn't protested anything, but whether that's true or something he's saying to save his life is beside the point.

Here's what torture looks like, for those confused on the point.

Time: Regime's Tactics Both "Smarter and More Brutal;" Street Protests Dwindling from Hundreds of Thousands to Thousands and then Hundreds: The regime's practice of random brutality is effective. It doesn't produce the massive body count, but lets everyone know that if they're on the street, there is a nontrivial chance they'll be killed.

But that's only reducing the street protests, not the actual resistance. Time guesses that some face-saving compromise may still be reached.

Moderate Defeated Candidate Karoubi Declares Government "Illegitimate:" One candidate withdraws his complaint but another one escalates his opposition.

31 Iviewed the photos of the alleged torture victim. Under the microscope of mykeenjournalistic scrutiny, Ideclare them a fraud. Obviously that young man did sustain some minor injuries, but they were due to his own clumsiness when he accidentally ran into the business end of a Drum Major's baton (everyone knows about the huge Persian Parades to celebrate Pride week every June). Common sense tells us that only evil Booosh and his henchmen torture innocent people. I've seen the aftermath of torture and it isn't pretty. We are talking the absolute inhumane degradation of having to wear panties on one's head, having to stand still in one position for a long time, being deprived of sleep, being forced to listen to endless loops of Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion. This young man experienced some little unpleasantries, but he was not tortured!

"Her star power has been an enormously effective tool for us," Tom Donilon, the deputy national security adviser with a central role in running foreign policy day to day, told POLITICO, describing the attention she commands abroad and her access to foreign leaders.
"She's a pretty tough customer in private negotiations, as you would imagine, and expects partners to behave like partners and expects people to do what they say they're going to do."

Either way, there's no way for them to avoid facing death. Even if they all give up and lay down now, the thugs will continue to round up anyone suspected of being part of this thing and continue killing them.

Written by med student, found at guardian.uk live blogging.
I only want to speak about what I have witnessed. I am a medical student. There was chaos at the trauma section in one of our mainhospitals. Although by decree, all riot-related injuries were supposedto be sent to military hospitals, all other hospitals were filled tothe rim. Last night, nine people died at our hospital and another 28had gunshot wounds. All hospital employees were crying till dawn. They(government) removed the dead bodies on back of trucks, before we wereeven able to get their names or other information. What can you evensay to the people who don't even respect the dead. No one was allowedto speak to the wounded or get any information from them. This morningthe faculty and the students protested by gathering at the lobby ofthe hospital where they were confronted by plain cloths anti-riotmilitia, who in turn closed off the hospital and imprisoned the staff. The extent of injuries are so grave, that despite being one of the most staffed emergency rooms, they've asked everyone to stay and help--I'm sure it will even be worst tonight. What can anyone say in face of all these atrocities? What can you say to the family of the 13 year-old boy whodied from gunshots and whose dead body then disappeared?
This issue is not about cheating (election) anymore. This is not about stealing votes anymore. The issue is about a vast injustice inflected on the people. They've put a baton in the hand of every 13-14 year old to smash the faces of "the bunches who are less than dirt" (government is calling the people who are uprising dried-up torn and weeds). This is what sickens me from dealing with these issues. And from those who shut their eyes and close their ears and claim the riots are in opposition of the government and presidency!! No! The people's complaint is against the egregious injustices committed against the people.

100 "Where's Hillary, anyway?" Y-not, Hillary is at home recuperating from her recent elbow surgery. I don't think her slip and fall was an accident. I think she is voting "present" on Obummer's foreign policy. Of course, I could be giving her way too much credit. She has really been a bitter disappointment. I don't think she is the fire breathing dragon lady we've been led to believe. She has actually shown a pattern of weak deference to the men who figure most importantly to her politically (ie. Bill and Barack). Instead of being this fiercely independent strong woman who stands up against the machine, she is at best a stooge andat worst,Democrat party chattel, trapped in an ideological Burka. Maybe we should start a "Free Hillary Movement".

If you read some military blogs, they are being told that they are doing these practices so they are ready if we are attacked. But, they add, it doesn't feel like that. There isn't a lot of 'military' in these exercises, just 'polic' tactics. They are practicing mass triag, wounded transport, tent cities, etc.

If this thing get brutally squelched I expect that Israel will take the nuke matter into its own hands shortly thereafter.

Over at Jawa, Rusty (Atlas links there as well) has a translation of a meeting w/ Achmadinijhad and the clerics at Qom. The translations indicate he is talking about the ushering in of, the coming of the mahdi (read nuclear war). The date of the meeting seems to be 4/09. Translations seem to indicate that the next 2 weeks may be uhhhh explosive, in every sense of the word.

The Israeli's and B. Netanyahu know exactly what to expect from an islamic world that would do this to their own people. What do they have reserved for those they truly hate, a/k/a Satan (us)and little Satan(israel)?

Is this just coincidence that the axis of evil (sans Iraq, now) is posturing, screaming, beating the drums of war, and drinking the blood that will never sate their appetite? China and Russia have a lot to gain from this as well.

Gird your loins indeed. oh, AND FUCK YOU, OBAMA. I am beyond disgusted with this thug, who surely is taking notes, which is why he'd "like to see this played out".

This has been discussed in Marine centric forums too. Folks tend to forget just what kind of men and women are in our military, and who lead it.
The general consensus is that if any POTUS tried to use the military for a broad brush crackdown on US citizens for whatever reason, large scale mutiny would be the least of that POTUS's problems.
There may be some expectation of massive civil disruption and plans for specific use in specific instances, but don't forget that the greater percentage of our folks in uniform are more closely aligned to the bitter gun clingers than those who have always been America's domestic enemy.
