Obama To Iran: Hey Guys, Can't I Just Finish My Ice Cream?

Being President is hard, but not so hard that you can't pop out with the kids for some ice cream! (scroll around)

Obama and the girls are back at the WH after their quick outing for frozen custard.

...The Obama outing last 54 minutes. The Secret Service used the SUV instead of the limo for the pres and daughters.

...You're gonna laff: Obama & the girls actually bought Frozen Puppy pops for Bo: flavors: pumpkin, peanut butter and yogurt…

Yeah, I'm LOLing my ass off.

Mark Knoller, the CBS reporter who broke this story is shocked people are expressing outrage over this.

As someone once said, words matter. Well so do images. The image of the President of the United State heading out for a fun afternoon with the kids while people are still dying in the streets and being rounded up the security services is simply too much.

I get Presidents have to have lives. I didn't expect Bush to maintain a 24/7 vigil in the White House for 7 years after 9/11 but I wouldn't have expected him to head out for a "Puppy Pops" while there was a major offensive under way either.

There's precious little Obama can do, I don't think it's too much ask he not do crap to make it look like he's even less interested than he already seems. Whether he knows it or not, the world isn't only watching Tehran.

I'm sure lefties will wine that I and others who are annoyed by this will tell me how mean I am for not letting Obama be a dad and how the girls shouldn't be punished for the job he took.

Here's the thing, I don't begrudge the kids a vacation and shopping spree in Paris or any of the other perquisites they get from being the President's daughters. At the same time they and Obama have to realize that sometimes that means they will miss out on stuff. If Obama didn't think he could balance the job and his role as a father, he needed to think about that 2 years ago.

And of course...imagine if Bush had done this.

Elsewhere in the world today

I think I saw 2 or 3 people lying on the ground in blood & IRG started to move them, probably hide them.

Treacher on Twitter:

"Confection accomplished."

There's just something off about him. (Obama, not Treacher. Okay, maybe both, but my point is...) His wife just can't do without him taking her to a show on Broadway. His daughters NEED their dad to go on an everyday outing. They have suffered so long and hard for him.

Having said that, it wouldn't draw me away from pouring some serious political Miracle-Gro on Iran at the critical moment.

I'll give Barack a pass on this one.  He's got small(ish) kids and taking an hour to "go out for custard with Dad" - on Father's day weekend - is reasonable.  The man has staff, you know.  Mostly Bush-holdovers, but staff none-the-less.

Then again, I think it's reasonable for Barack to do more than orate about Iran.

So an Iranian uprising is now comparable to a major US offensive? When did we become responsible for overseeing troubles anywhere in the world?

I guess Obama should never do anything that may be seen to trivialize the troubles that may be happening in the world at any time.

And I always thought conservatives were for smaller government role that just worked on the basics of protecting the citizenry and the basics of life. Yet they're now calling for the US government to step in and act as the world's police...guess they're not truly pro-small government after all.

For the record, I believe that President Hussein originally sided with the Supreme Leader because he embraces radical Islam’s religious-political worldview. Nevertheless, FOX News just interviewed a international security specialist — a man steeped in CIA government-destabilization programs — who argued that if the US has covert operations on the ground in Iran, then President Hussein has a moral obligation to feign a laissez-faire position of status quo in public, to protect the operation. The quieter the better. He also pointed out that every Democratic president in the last 50 years has participated in government-destabilization programs.

Of course, I believe that President Hussein breaks every mold of every man who has ever sat in the Oval Office, starting with his native citizenship, which means I would be surprised if he authorized any kind of government-destabilization program in Iran. Moreover, I believe that the worst construction on any of Hussein’s actions is probably the most accurate interpretation of events, which means that this ice-cream romp is probably more proof that Hussein is completely out of touch with reality.

Regardless, if the FOX News analyst is correct (and we simply do not have enough facts one way or the other), then in this instance we would have to cut Hussein some slack. Having the media cover him as he shoves ice cream down his pie hole would be the perfect photo-op of a president who does not want to be seen as meddling.

34 Just as I didn't see the huge fuss about Bush finishing his visit to the school on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, I don't really see the big deal here. Unless, of course, you count the fact Obama's been pretty much oblivious all *week* on the Iran/DPRK issues. This, then, becomes one more example of his cluelessness.

But then, who can blame him? If you just say anything that comes into your head, make shit up on the fly, continuously misstate historical fact, and never get called on it by the fourth estate, how can you be surprised he'll expect to take credit for something, while doing nothing.

You know what it's just the cherry on top of the sundae (pun intended here). Obama has been in the White House for, what is it, 20 weeks now, and he's taken more breaks and had more free time than even what they accused Bush of. He's taken his wife to a Broadway show, he's taken her back to Chicago for Valentine's Day. He's gone out for burgers multiple times. On their overseas trips he's gone out for dinners with her. He's played golf over and over and over again, he's hosted countless parties in the White House, he's flown all over the country to sign bills and give "town halls."

Look, quite frankly I am sick and tired of hearing that Obama gets to have a normal life. FUCK THAT he's the FUCKING PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES and I'd appreciate it if he'd starting acting like a President instead of a major movie star.

And, it isn't Father's Day today, it's Father's Day tomorrow, so if he needed to take his girls out for ice cream, it would have made more sense to do it tomorrow.

Oh yeah, and fuck you Palin Steele I'm so tired of your fucking posts. Nothing you say is of value here. Absolutely nothing. You are an idiot and I can only hope that you grow up someday and realize what a fucking idiot you were when you were young and do something good with your life to make up for it.

78 We here at the Pinch Majal received many complaints about our spotty coverage of the vigorous post-election debate going on in Iran, which reminds us of our own crisis in 2000 and the Bush administrations strafing of poor black folks in New Orleans. Be assured that we take this feedback seriously while we mock your grammar and spelling.

We have a long tradition of journalism and are dedicated to our role as the rock of democracy as we keep you informed of the latest fast food excursions of our godlike president who is wildly popular with normal people who don't pop zits on their computer screens and whine about the press not covering what THEY want covered. If you don't want to hear the important news about presidential ice cream, go and start your own fucking news service pal!

C'mon, this shit's over the top. Big fucking deal. It's just the same old self centered clown.

I have no idea what you are trying to say to me, but my point still stands, if this was one instance of him doing something like that, yeah whatever, big deal, but he's been pulling stuff like this for his entire Presidency so far. Dying your hair gray and feigning seriousness isn't enough to be Presidential. You actually have to act Presidential too. And all I've seen from Obama is someone who is a huge narcissist who probably really should've been a major movie star instead of the leader of our country because he doesn't have the gravitas that should come with that job.

He got his office without any accomplishments in life beyond becoming the most popular person in the world   He believes that he can change the topic of conversation back to something more useful to him merely by reminding everyone of his popularity.  Monday he'll be railing against the fat content of the ice cream served to his daughters and how it proves we need universal health care.

The point is that events in Iran are constantly moving, people are being murdered in the streets, people want to know what's going on, and the DemSM assigns an army of reporters to give us the very latest on his ice cream run.

As I've said, the DemSM should stick to what they do best, which is reporting on celebrity crotch shots and turn the real news over to serious people.

100 Meh, on the one hand, yeah, okay, the president is allowed to take his kids out for ice cream. On any other day, I'd shrug and just be vaguely annoyed that the MSM looks at it as a drool-worthy moment. I mean Jesus, before the shop down the street closed my parents took me for ice cream ALL THE TIME. It doesn't make him the BEST DAD EVAR and it certainly doesn't make him the BEST PRESIDENT EVAR. The MSM really needs to stfu about the guy, because I'm already getting the wicked urge to take a sharpie to every picture I see of him. Which is hard when you work surrounded by magazine stands.

But today, yeah, it's inappropriate. People are dying in Iran because they have the gall to ask for liberty. Not the best time for an ice cream run. If he had just waited until tomorrow, even conservative might say 'okay, yeah, it's Father's Day. An hour off for ice cream is understandable.' But today? Not so much.

A few months ago, I might have been able to gin up some outrage, but I'm all out. The economy is not getting better, we now have two powder-keg countries whose fuses are getting awfully short, and I've seen absolutely nothing to make me feel like the Won is going to do anything to make it better. I don't care about him anymore. In my mind, it's like we don't have a president. Whatever's going to happen over the next few months, I don't see the government doing shit to make it right. I just see me and my family, along with millions of families around the country, knuckling down and getting through it on our own. And so much worse for anyone who tries to gum up the works for us.

116 This is a couple of days old but I haven't seen it here yet and obviously still relevant:
it's a "news" piece (run on 1/3 of page 3 of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel with color photo).
http://tinyurl.com/mzw6dv

"Memo to critics of President Barack Obama's recent "date night" in New York City and his family's tour of Paris: Take a number and get in line." ...behind the adoring media falling all over themselves to defend him from any slight.
Lets see:
  Bush was worse - check
  Regan did it!eleventy - check
some Republicans disagree (with those hypercritical partisan bastards) - check
"He got it just right" - check (never mind this is from O's own staff)
Touching cut away quote from the oh so human and yet godly Hopey one - check

Now I happen to agree that the yapping about Zero's date night was useless at best but this full length "news" piece dedicated to proving that criticism need not apply with the One is fucking ridiculous.
And making an ice cream trip on Iran's reckoning day is not in the same category. Seriously. You can't tell me the white house kitchen was out of ice cream and for fuck's sake if you must have some special flavor right now. Send someone to pick it up. The people of one of the world's most volatile and important countries don't face a do or die struggle for freedom every day.  Won't stop the press from telling us how perfect it was of him to take the opportunity to get some ice cream for his fucking dog.

To Painful Stool, disingenuous fool:

An intervention, or an overt call for overthrow of the Iranian government, these are non-issues.

All Obama had to do was make a statement condemning the violence of the Iranian government against its own people.  He has not and will not. It would cost him nothing, it would be a smart thing to do, but he will not do it.

Obama's  use of terms such as "debate" to describe what is happening, long after it was became apparent what was really going on, was preposterous and detached from reality. Imagining that 'negotiation' is possible with a government that is capable of this, which Obbama clearly does imagine, is also preposterous and deteached from reality.

Keep your strawman arguments about 'getting involved' or 'intervening' or whatever the hell you called it, to yourself.

134 I don't mind Obama doing this at all, and I wish he did more of it as all fathers do.  However, as cognizant as this guy and his staff are with the Obama image, it's a public relations faux paux, and one he should have avoided.

I do disagree with Drew on another note.  I thought his trip to New York where he felt the need to bring the press was in extremely poor taste.  Why take along journalists on taxpayers' dime when it was supposed to be an intimate night, or as intimate as the POTUS can have outside the White House?

The Left as a whole bashed Bush repeatedly for going on 'vacation,' as if the POTUS ever goes on vacation (the PM of England actually does), but Bush was always working while not in the White House.  Obama, on the other hand, finds time to go out and pick up burgers with reporters, take his wife on expensive private jet dates while he and his administration are spending every day talking up dreary economic numbers (the exact opposite strategy that should be employed during a recession), making sure at least one member of the press knows of his ice cream date with his two daughters and doing the same with regard to the press on his Paris date.  Nary a word from the same Lefties who cried foul when Bush worked out of Crawford is heard

I admire the fact Obama is spending a good deal of time with his wife and daughters, but what irks me is that he's seemingly doing so for political points rather than a desire to spend quality time with his brood.

By the way, isn't the President going on date nights while our Military is deployed in a war overseas?

I think the analogy before was, "If our troops can't play golf, the President shouldn't either."

In that case, no more date nights until all the troops are home.  They have to go without for up to 18 months at a time.  So should he.

The ice cream gig isn't that ridiculous; the fact that it was really a fluff presser during a difficult time, a crypto-propaganda piece if you will, that's the disgusting and outrageous part.

The idea of him withholding comments at the start of this thing wasn't a bad idea -- at the outset it would have been a bad idea, imho, to just give dinnerjacket and the mullahs an open door to tar the protest (however, he really didn't do that -- he actually helped A and the MM along with some of his remarks, so "fail" there); however, there is this thing known as timing and when they openly came out and accused the "west" (aka the US and its allies) of meddling, then, then would have been a very good time to let lose with a scorcher -- but that didn't happen.  And of course, we shouldn't have expected it too, because it's pretty obvious that it wouldn't due to who is in charge here now.

It really is time for the American people to just start doing for themselves -- what this administration has done for others they will do to us.  Expect no support and no cavalry to come to the rescue to come from Washington.

173 The problem is the contrasting images. Moussavi went all in today, saying he is waiting for martydom, basically telling the protestors I agree with what you agree, we need a new Iran with basic democracy and the leader of the free world goes out for ice cream.  Now, not only does Moussavi's action take away the straw argument that their is no difference between he and the Supreme Leader/the rest of the entrenched Iranian ruling class, but it clearly draws the line on what side we should be on.  Moussavi can't go back now and say do as the hard-line mullah's want, because he knows that those crowds who adore him now can turn on him in a minute with the right voice or provocation.  And all "The One" does is issue a written statement that Iran must stop all unjust actions and goes get ice cream.  If this is his "steel of spine" Sheriff Joe advertised, then the Mullahs know they can stomp the crap out the movement, kill however many it takes, wait for the huffy diplomatic note and continue on its merry way.  By God, no one is asking that "The One" invade Iran, just freaking act like you care a little bit.

Not even mentioning Iran, he would send a message strong and loud to the Mullah's and the freedom loving Iranians that he supports them.  instead those in Iran looking to the USA for moral support will get to see bho getting ice cream with his kids while their kids are being shot at on the streets of Iran for wanting freedom.

189 Obama and his democrat minions are throwing away decades of American policy when a simple stand for Liberty would cost us little more than an unambiguous statement of solidarity with the Iranian people who are dying in the streets shouting "death to the dictator" in much the same way our forefathers did. Instead they triangulate towards tyrants and zero out financial resources that sustained real freedom movements.

Someone up-thread offered up a quote from some MSM CIA hack claiming that "if the US has covert operations on the ground in Iran" then O "has a moral obligation to feign a laissez-faire position of status quo in public, to protect the operation. The quieter the better. He also pointed out that every Democratic president in the last 50 years has participated in government-destabilization programs."

Of course Democrats themselves are the "government-destabilization program". They have destabilized Liberty around the world by coddling and outright defended every petty dictator they can wrap their socialist rhetoric around.

Sad, but at this point if I was a foreign diplomat or a struggling freedom fighter I wouldn't trust any treaty or government-destabilization program agreement I made with America that lasted longer than a Republican administration.

2001:  "Mr. President, we've just had a 'situation' arise and we're going to have to pull you out.  Security has been mobilized, the route is being cleared ahead of schedule, and Air Force One is going on alert and standby.  Remain here and we will get underway as soon as things are ready."

     "Right."

2009:  "Mr. President, we have a popular uprising of people who are attempting to overthrow the religious junta that is one of the most profligate sponsors of terrorism in the world.  Should we make a statement?"

"Tell them I said 'hi.'  Who's for ice cream?"

by Lachlan Carmichael Lachlan Carmichael – Thu Jun 18, 5:59 am ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman clashed over US demands for a freeze on settlements in Palestinian territory.

At a press conference after talks in Washington on Wednesday, Clinton reaffirmed US demands for an end to settlement building but her Israeli counterpart rejected the call.

The focus now moves to a meeting in Paris next week between a US envoy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about his plans for peace with the Palestinians.

Clinton and Lieberman highlighted the discord after their first meeting since the right wing Netanyahu government came to office in March.

"We want to see a stop to the settlements," Clinton told reporters as she stood next to Lieberman.

"We think that is an important and essential part of pursuing the efforts leading to a comprehensive agreement and the creation of a Palestinian next to an Israeli Jewish state that is secure in its borders and future," she said.

The real point that the lefties refuse to think of is that the POTUS can't just run out and hop in the car, especially in a moment of Red Alert. Should the Presidential limo go storming into morning traffic, without security measures in effect, especially when the President could be on the target list of whoever might be acting?

Of course not. At this point, the Secret Service is in charge until they can safely get the President to a secure location.

But, still, a smear is a smear, right, lefties?  No logic or critical thinking required.

Well I guess my instinct that you're a plant has paid off, as your 'proof' of prior presence was pretty sparse and no one's jumped up to vouch for you.  I'm sure if you google those words and 'ace spades' you'll find Ace's post on the topic, explaining what you were doing before any of you showed up.

I'm stating, on my own, that your presentation of the analyst's scenario is bullshit, until you provide video of the analyst (asserting you saw something on FOX doesn't actually give you instant credibility here) and some actual evidence that the CIA is doing anything at all in Iran.  The presumption must be against that belief of yours as Obama has made a point of getting friendly with every dictator he could find and gave a speech in Cairo about how he wanted to reset our relationship with the Middle East based entirely on overlooking their flaws and granting his personal protection to Islam.

Alternate Explanation for Brak's Silence: Iran has been a favorite cause of the left running the gamut from the most cliche of leftist tropes, i.e their just a misunderstood foreign culture, the 'other,' in the garbed up idiocy of Focault to outright hostility towards the US, cf. the ramblings of Hendrik Hertzberg, plus the added benefit of being a foil to the hated Israelis (Jooooooooooos!), Iran is a palimpsest for every lefist belief and they're not going to sacrifice an inch of that, even rhetorically. Bambi just wants to this end ASAP so he can get back to negotiating, at which time he'll give in to whatever half-baked demands Khameni via Ahmadinejad wants, the MSM will proclaim vicotry and  claim another repudiation of the hated shrub while Bambi has basks in his own warm glow coming out the teevee. When Iran gets the bomb though, it'll be Bush's fault.

I'm starting to believe we need that Garden Weasel™ to the anus.  Until the majority of Americans realize how good they've had it all these years BECAUSE OF THE MILITARY, we won't get our national consciousness back to where it needs to be.

I just sat behind some dickmitten at Subway for twenty minutes because her kid couldn't decide what toppings she wanted on her Kid's Meal™ ham and cheese.  Bitch started crying because her mom wouldn't let her get jalapenos.  America is, on the whole, like that little twat, because we want everything we want, when we want it, even if we don't like it, even if we have no money for it.

I'm of the believe it has to get worse before it can get better.

317 Bottom line is that the won can't afford to have any soundbites or video of him voicing a complaint about a fixed election. He knows what he's gonna do in '12 and he knows that any words he utters that seem to support those who are protesting a fixed election will delegitimize his 2nd term even more than it already will be. He's doing what crooked politicians do. He's keepin' his trap shut while the other crooked polititicians are doing their thing.

322 Hey PS, this one's for you.
Argue with this:

The events of the past week in Iran, following the June 12 presidential election there, have been remarkable and hopeful. It's been a moment when one would like a president of the United States--who has, in such moments, a supporting but not an inconsequential role--to rise to the occasion. Barack Obama hasn't. We are therefore put in the position of hoping that the words of an American president are being mostly ignored, that his weakness won't matter, and that the forces of reform or revolution will be able to prevail--as they may--with the support of many in America, if not the president.

The day after the election, as hundreds of thousands of Iranians gathered in the streets to protest election fraud, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the administration was "monitoring" the situation. The next day, Sunday, as the extent of the fraud became clear to anyone willing to see it, Vice President Joe Biden said that while there were "doubts" about the outcome, "I don't think we're in a position to say" that the election wasn't free and fair. Obama played golf.

On Monday, Obama finally had something to say: "I think it would be wrong for me to be silent about what we've seen on the television over the last few days." He said he was "deeply troubled" by the violence but noted, "We respect Iranian sovereignty and want to avoid the United States being the issue inside of Iran." Eight people were killed that day.

On Tuesday, Obama acknowledged

the "amazing ferment" inside Iran. But, as the forces of change rallied behind Mir-Hussein Mousavi, and as Mousavi, heretofore a cautious apparatchik, was carried along Yeltsin-like to a position of virtual opposition to the regime, Obama seemed to try to take the steam out of the protest, declaring, "The difference between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi in terms of their actual policies may not be as great as has been advertised." Meanwhile Gibbs said that while Obama "deplored the violence"--disembodied violence, whose perpetrators went unnamed--he was nonetheless encouraged by the "vigorous debate inside of Iran by Iranians."

On Wednesday, Gibbs repeated those words verbatim and reported that the president would continue to "ensure that we're not meddling." And on Thursday, Gibbs once again said the president "deplored unnecessary killing." Senator John Kerry, defending Obama, said, "We can't escape the reality that for reformers in Tehran to have any hope for success, Iran's election must be about Iran--not America."

All week, the Obama administration bent over backwards to avoid questioning the legitimacy of the Iranian regime. In this, Obama became a de facto ally of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Although Obama finally spoke about the protesters--"the whole world is watching," he said--he never expressed real support for them.

Obama supporters defended his silence. Anything he said to endorse the protests, they argued, would taint the protesters' message and damage their cause.

The protesters, many of whom held signs written in English, seemed to disagree. "On several occasions, I've had supporters of Mousavi say we need President Obama," reported CNN's Reza Sayah, from Tehran. When Wolf Blitzer asked Sayah directly whether the protesters want Obama to speak out in support of their cause, Sayah responded: "I think they do, but they're realistic."

"Realistic" about the weakness, about the foolish and counterproductive "realism," of an American president. How sad.

Two weeks earlier, Obama had promised in Cairo, in his address to the Muslim world, a "new beginning" in U.S.-Muslim relations. He spoke of his belief in democracy and of his "unyielding belief that all people yearn for certain things: the ability to speak your mind and have a say in how you are governed; confidence in the rule of law and the equal administration of justice; government that is transparent and doesn't steal from the people; the freedom to live as you choose."

Those are not just American ideas, he said, but universal human rights. "And that is why we will support them everywhere."

Except not in Iran. And not when it matters.

I'm not sure we have an argument, though I may be typing too fast given the rapidity of other's posts.  I didn't mean that we should bomb the entire world into submission, just refute the idiotic claim that we had somehow tried and failed.  I'm all for US leadership since no one else in the world can be trusted to lead.  I'm all for getting along with those people who aren't trying to kill us or our friends, or those who facilitate them.  But we have enemies and I don't think we were sufficiently aggressive with them, even with George Bush in the White House.

Events in Iran may well be demonstrating that he had the right pace, so I'm willing to reconsider that.

Obama is liked by people who pay zero federal income taxes.  They want more and more because it won't cost them anything.  Added bonus, they get to stick it to the man, who they perceive as taking what they should have.  After all, doesn't this country owe it to them?

according to my inside sources (i know some lefties that i'm trying to convert...to no avail...that are connected to important people) obama thinks he can keep his approvals up by having people like him and act like a celebrity. problem is the majority of the country liked w as a man and look how they turned on him. they didn't like bubbah that much as a man and yet they treated him well. not to mention his approvals have taken a bit of a dip the last few weeks after they were sticking in the 58-62 range. now they're at about 54-58. even polls like gallup can't seem to help him anymore. people are starting to want some action, not speeches.

416 ALERT MORONS.

Possible letter from Mousaui's people to Obama.  Not pleasant to Obama.  On pjmedia blog

I’ve received what purports to be a statement from Mousavi’s Office in Tehran.  Like everyone else covering the revolution, I get a lot of material that can’t be authenticated, and one must always take such material with a healthy dose of skepticism.  That said, the person who sent this to me is undoubtedly in touch with the Mousavi people on the ground, that much is certain.  His information has been proven reliable throughout this period.  So while the following open letter carefully puts distance between the author(s) and Mousavi himself, I am quite sure that at a minimum it accurately reflects the state of mind of the Mousavi people.

So here you go:

From  the Office of Mr. Mir Hossein Mousavi

To the President of the USA, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama:

Dear Mr. President,

In the name of  the Iranian people, we want you to know that when you recently made the statement “Achmadinejad or Mousavi? Two of a kind,” we consider this as a grave and deep insult, not just to Mr. Mousavi but especially against the judgment of the Iranian people, against our moral conviction and intelligence, especially those of the young generation that comprises a population of 31 million.

It is a specially grave insult for those who are now fighting for democracy and freedom, and an unwarranted gift and even praise for Mr. Khamenei, whose security forces are now killing peaceful Iranians in the streets of every major city in the country.

Your statement misled the people of the world.  It was no doubt inspired by your hope for dialogue with this regime, but you cannot possibly believe in promises from a regime that lies to its own people and then kills them when they demand the promises be kept.

By such statements, your administration and you discourage the Iranian people, who believe and trust in the values of democracy and freedom.  We are pleased to see that you have condemned the regime’s murderous violence, and we look forward to stronger support for the rightful struggle of the Iranian people against the actions of a regime that is your enemy as well as ours.

419 There's a scene in Fight Club where one of the characters says, "A generation of men raised by women. I’m wondering if another woman is the answer we really need."

I've thought of that line often in the past year. That generation of young men who is the emphasis in Fight Club, mirrors the current generation of young male voters who are so enamored of Barack. They rejected Hillary in the harshest way possible, but picked the lamest male figure they could find.

Buyers remorse is coming. Some will be obstinate and hold onto their 'hope' for a while, but this is a one term President. Hope he enjoys his ice cream.

451 So, anyway, not to thread-jack or anything, but I was watching "Whale Wars" with my two sons last night.  For those that don't know, Whale Wars is a show about hippies in a ship chasing after a five ship Japanese whaling fleet in and around Antarctica.  The hippies purpose is to disrupt the Japanese whaling.  It was informative.

For starters, hippies aren't very good at doing any particular thing, other than weeping.  The crew of the hippie ship, HSS Steve Irwin, should be compared-and-contrasted with any on the Deadliest Catch.  The hippie crew doesn't seem to know where anything is on the ship they've been sailing around on for weeks at a time, they don't practice or rehearse any of the procedures they're going to attempt against the Japanese, such as launching a Zodiac in a rough sea, their equipment doesn't work, they can't follow radio instructions, or directions, or, hell, even carry basic safety equipment such as EPIRBs

The first mate is the kind of guy who gets other people killed due to his hippie-nature -- deciding to trust his eyes rather than charts and instruments, opting to not practice manuevers or train the volunteer crew, taking a dim view when others exhibit competence.

The captain, as such, takes a boat with a zero ice rating into Antarctic waters, and puts the thing in the middle of an ice field.  And leaves the helm at times in charge of people not comfortable at the wheel of a ship in an ice field.

So, the boat goes around trying to locate the Japanese fleet, which can travel faster than the hippie ship, burning fuel in the process to "save" whales which are not endangered in the first place.  Because they're hippies who care.

Which is what I told my sons.  I told them that I would personally kick their ass if they decided to join up with a group, any group,  which was so thoroughly, demonstrably, incompetent.

Kudos to the editors for cutting the show together and leaving in all the amazing fuck-ups these chowderheads manage to get themselves into.

@ 426

you do realize the dixie chicks had a conservative audience that was the 1 that backlashed, not the media which in itself has low ratings for bashing conservatives. plus why you so afrid of the patriot act? confirmed terrorists are talking to you over the phone? wtf? and guess what truman has the lowest approval rating ever at 20, not bush who's lowest was at 22 and left at 34 WITH A 53% FAVORABLE RATING AS A MAN so he's not as hated as you were brainwashed to believe.

Some of us thought that putting a functioning Democracy on Iran's western border might just get the people there wondering why they couldn't have a voice in their government.  Might even be 'transformative' or something.

Obama seems to have an aversion to systems where the people's will is done, but I guess that's just how they roll in Chicago.

459 The guy went and grabbed some fucking ice cream.

In case you hadn't noticed:

a) The White House has a fully-stocked kitchen.

b) Certainly the President can "order in" from whatever restaurant or ice-cream joint he pleases

c) He certainly seemed to need a lot of media and publicity shots of him and his daughters for what was ostensibly "private".

d) There isn't a parent on this site who hasn't had to miss events or not take kids somewhere because of work.

Now, in case you hadn't noticed, there are some major things around Iran.

1) It sits at one of the most strategic spots on the planet, where one well-placed missile by a rogue group could easily block or severely impair the flow of oil to the world.

2) It has nuclear technology, the missiles to exploit it, and the nutcases in charge to actually do it

3) It has already been through one violent revolution that resulted in a bloodbath.

4) It sponsors and exports terrorists and weapons across the Middle East to groups that attack and try to kill/destroy our allies.

In short, Obama thinks a violent revolution in a terrorist-supporting country with nuclear technology and weapons of mass destruction is less important than Obama's need to have the press fawn over him and whore out his daughters for publicity shots.

That is approximately 180 degrees opposite of what any normal person would consider the correct order of priorities. And if you weren't trying to argue from the affirmative action viewpoint that everything Obama does is right because he's black, you might actually comprehend that.

@ 426 Wow, that's quite a list of Lefty cliche's, there. Against my better judgement, I'llo address a few:

-Remember people like The Dixie Chicks getting crucified for disagreeing with W?

No gov't agency had anything to do with the Dixie Chicks' criticisms -- all done by private entities, a perfectly legitimate occurance

-Remember the media smiling happily while he led our country into a bullshit war?

No. Plenty of media lefties went apeshit in an attempt to thwart the Iraq invasion as "illegal." As for news media, it's not their job to either praise or complain about a given incident -- their job is to report the damn news.

-I don't remember too many negative stories about Bush while the fucking Patriot Act got passed.

Then you weren't fucking paying attention because Bush took PLENTY of heat from both the Bush-hating lefties and the rabid Libertarians. But of course, it's just a self-serving tactic for you to rant based on your selective memory about past events.

The president's general line on the geopolitical big picture is: I don't need this in my life right now. He's a domestic transformationalist, working overtime - via the banks, the automobile industry, health care, etc. - to advance statism's death grip on American dynamism. His principal interest in the rest of the world is that he doesn't want anyone nuking America before he's finished turning it into a socialist basket case. This isn't simply a matter of priorities. A United States government currently borrowing 50 cents for every dollar it spends cannot afford its global role, and thus the Obama cuts to missile defense and other programs have a kind of logic: You can't be Scandinavia writ large with a U.S.-sized military.  - Mark Steyn

472 Wow. Just wow.

(20 June 2009)  Numerous Iranians beaten and injured by security forces as they tried to stage peaceful demonstrations have been arrested and detained when they sought medical treatment in hospitals, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reported today.

Heavily armed Iranian police and military units, as well as paramilitaries, confronted thousands of citizens as they tried to assemble. According to information received by the Campaign, police wielding batons and using water cannons and tear gas injured hundreds. There have been unconfirmed reports of several deaths. One witness told the Campaign she saw a female demonstrator get shot in the neck.

“The arrest of citizens seeking care for wounds suffered at the hands of security forces when they attempted to exercise rights guaranteed under their own constitution and international law is deplorable,” said Hadi Ghaemi, spokesperson for the Campaign.  “It can only be taken as a sign of profound disrespect by the state for the well-being of its own people.”

According to information received by the Campaign, doctors had already been ordered to report protest-related injuries on 19 June.

Fear of arrest in hospitals has left injured protesters, some in serious condition, with no opportunities for treatment, and some have reportedly sought care in foreign embassies.

The Campaign called for a full and transparent accounting of the number of those injured and killed in demonstrations, and appealed to the authorities not to interfere with the work of health-care institutions.

In another development, the Campaign has learned that communications out of Tehran’s Evin prison have been cut off.  Evin prison is where many of Iran’s long-term political prisoners and a number of intellectuals, opposition politicians, human rights activists and journalists detained over the past several days are incarcerated.

“Blocking contact with friends and family means that all in Evin are in a virtual state of incommunicado detention, a state that puts them at an intensified risk of torture,” Ghaemi said.

0bama: "Uh...um...um... Who wants ice cream?"

LPC: "Yaaaay! Ice cream! Bush never bought us ice cream during a major catastrophe! We love you President Obama!"

0bama: "I really don't care, just make sure you put a positive spin on this for me, like "Obama cuts taxes for half a million Americans in five seconds." or something."

Chris Matthews: "I want to be your woman so bad right now."

0bama: "You've been my bitch since 2004, you disgust me."

Matthews: "Yes! Yes! That's it! Now pull my hair and tell me I've been a bad journalist!"

And still three and a half years to go with this mess...Heaven help us all.

We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... Methos,

I am only replying to you out of boredom, because anyone who cannot frame a logical argument, let alone who continually misrepresents my words despite having immediate access to them, is not worth my time. Put another way (or at least in words that you might understand), you are a blithering idiot. Your idiocy aside, please allow me to reply to your post.

First, I acted on your counsel and discovered that Ace coined the phrase in question on September 15, which is roughly a month before I discovered this blog. Therefore, please accept my apology for my ignorance of the nuance unique to those words found on this site; though for the record, I am concerned, I am a Christian, and I am a conservative — just not the kind described in those posts.

Second, the FOX News analyst predicated his position on the word “if,” which is a conjunction that is used to indicate circumstances that would have to exist in order for an event to happen. He did not state that he had firsthand knowledge of this circumstance; he only framed a hypothetical possibility based upon American operations in the past. Personally, I believe this circumstance is now extremely unlikely, given Hussein’s latest statement on the crisis. But this specialist did not have the luxury of offering an opinion based upon an unequivocal statement that the president had not yet made. Too bad for him that he did not contact you before FOX News asked him for his opinion. In fact, too bad FOX News didn’t contact you for your opinion.

Third, the number of naked assertions you make are embarrassing. So rather than respond to them, I encourage you to learn to read at more than a third-grade level — and then read a book on logic. If you do these two things, your spelling will improve through osmosis and you might actually learn to frame an argument. It’s a long shot, I know, but your self-improvement would be for the betterment of mankind.

Fourth, regarding me being a “plant” and no one vouching for me, I encourage you instruct the host of this blog to quit quoting “plants.” It makes him look bad.

Fifth, people such as you ultimately detract from the finest political blog on the web. You don’t have a clue and you insist that everyone know it. Well done.

Finally, you really are complete idiot.

500 Hailed by media critics as the fluffiest, most toothless, and softest-hitting coverage of the president to date, this story is being called the definitive Barack Obama puff piece.
"No news publication has dared to barely scratch the surface like this before," columnist and campaign reporter Michael King wrote in The Washington Post Saturday. "This profile sets a benchmark for mindless filler by which all other features about President Obama will now be judged. Just impressive puff-journalism all around."
The 24-page profile, entitled "Boogyin' With Barack," hits newsstands Monday just after Fathers Day and contains photos of Teh Won as a baby, graduating from Columbia University, standing and laughing, holding hands with his wife and best friend, Michelle, greeting a crowd of blue-collar autoworkers, eating cheeseburgers with diner patrons, and staring pensively out of an airplane window over New York while a pen and legal pad rest comfortably on his lowered tray table.
According to political analysts, the Time piece features the most lack-of-depth reporting on Obama ever published, and for the first time reveals a number of inconsequential truths about the President, including how he keeps in shape, and which historical figures the president would choose to have dinner with.
"The sheer breadth of fluff in this story is something to be marveled at," New York Times Washington bureau chief Dean Baquet said. "It's all here. Favorite books, movies, meals, and seasons of the year ranked one through four. Sure, we asked Obama what his favorite ice cream was, but Time did us one better and asked, 'What's your favorite ice cream, really?'"

501 You guys do nothing but complain.

Every single day about every single thing.

Obama took his daughters out for ice cream?

Oh, the horror.

Taking his daughters for ice cream isn't even the issue.  The issue is watching how painful it is for him to side with the people of Iran.  The only reason we are talking about the ice cream trip is because that is what the MSM has decided is today's big story.

Obamuh said that there is no difference between Masouvi and Achmedinajad showing that he has no clue that this is about the Iranian people and not the candidates.  This is also about getting rid of the mullahs so in the future, Iran might elect leaders that can coexist with the west.

Posted by: Lemmiwinks at June 20, 2009 08:51 PM (IqfKc)

502 I agree that taking his daughters out for frozen yogurt today was in poor taste, but I'm not quite sure what you all would have him do instead.  Many of you are just itching for an opportunity to criticize him.  With all of the problems we currently have at home, I can't believe that any of you think that it would actually be wise to get into the middle of this conflict.

We all should be angry, but let's be sure that it's not misdirected.  This is far less about our government than it is about the oppressive Iranian government-- which it seems many of you have completely forgotten about.  Rather than pissing and moaning about how you can't stand the current administration, try looking for ways to actually help the Iranian people!

What im annoyed about is the media focusing on minor details about this "super hero" of a president. Do we really have to know what he eats, how much he eats and what he thinks about about the food he eats ALL THE GOD DAMN TIME!

And you cant possible condem him for not being able to juggle being  a father and prez...UH he has done more in these first months in office then like any other prez in recent years AND talks to we the people WAY more then any other prez (cant say that about the man behind the bush), He travles all over the place and talks with country officials frequently. I wouldn't expect less from a president in these times but I certainly wouldn't hubiristically condemn him for not doiung more.

No, Jessica. Just the regular trolls this site has. I accept that you were Twittering and came here doing that out of interest. (And you know that "Chimpy" and variations were what the Left and plenty of mainstream liberals called Bush for 8 years, thus such allusions here, don't you?)

Really, go to HotAir with Allahpundit and ABC's Jake Tapper Twittering instead or just directly follow Iranian Twittering instead. Or check out this guy. If it's what you're really after, you'll find it at those sites.

534 THE ONE, is a heartless bastard with no empathy for suffering of any kind unless it's Fox criticizing him. After seeing pictures of the blood and murder going on in Iran anyone with any sense would have ordered in the ice cream or what ever and spent the evening watching the kids favorite kid show with them. He truly doesn't care about anything that doesn't effect him personally. In his world everything revolves around him and the media makes sure it does. Do I care if he takes his kids out for ice cream. Hell no. But this instance shows how little anything happening to others effects him, he is truly oblivious to others pain as is shown by all his policies meant to increase his power while hurting Americans. He's a sad shadow of what a President should be.

I think trying to thwart the mullahs in Iran, a country currently in the process of acquiring nukes that they threaten to use against Israel thus possibly causing a war that could possibly destroy a good portion of the world's oil and causing chaos, instability, and world war isn't our POTUS's concern. 555 Oh, come on. I'm sure I'll be lumped in with the hypocrites who would criticize Bush for this but give Obama a pass by saying this, but get over yourself. Let's be real; he can't do a thing about what's going on in Iran right now -- that's in the hands of the Iranian people, unless Obama wants to start another war, which wouldn't be a good idea in the slightest. Did you go out to eat at any time in the past week? If so, why, when you could have been doing something about Iran? If you can't learn how to balance being an American and a human being, maybe you should have thought about that before you neglectfully planned to live your life like a human instead of spending your whole day twiddling your thumbs over something happening half the world away that we can't do anything about. I wouldn't criticize Bush, I won't criticize Obama, and I wouldn't criticize anyone else.

Let the guy get ice cream. Criticize his policies, not his eating habits.

558 Maybe the kids took him out for ice cream as a Father's Day present paid for out of their allowance money. I don't have a problem with a dad wanting to give his kids as much of a normal life as possible.

I do have a problem with Obama's having put social parasites like US Bank(s) and the health insurance industry and the multis ahead of the millions of other dads--and moms--and kids in the US and all over the world: I think he has forgotten that we are all human beings (that way he can not think sbout the dead and dying in Iran and the dead and dying here in the US). I think he has forgotten that banks and governments are not humans. That he has, seemingly, prioritized the well being of the inhuman over the human is the problem.
