| Barbara Boxer To General: Call Me Senator! How small minded, petty and egotistical is Democrat Barbara Boxer? Pretty damn it turns out. Now the general in questions didn't call her, hag, bitch or asshole, appropriate though they might have been. No, the general had the temerity to call her, wait for it, "ma'am". Naturally the general respected her 'request' and referred to her as Senator, the title she says she's worked so hard for and just loves to hear. Me? I'm not a general, I'm a citizen. That means I get to call her whatever the hell I want (with the exception of one word because Ace has a rule about it but you know I'm thinking it). Babs? Granny Boxer? Maybe I'll just go with Obama's favorite term for women...Sweetie.Comments1

I wonder if Senator Fatass has any idea of what it really means to work hard for years to achieve a goal. I suppose she means running around shaking hands and begging for votes and money is hard work. But as to making something out of yourself, convincing enough idiots to vote for you to get into office does not strike me as much of a goal. As is proved on a daily basis, there are a lot of useless dirtbags in the Senate and House. And only someone out of touch with reality would be proud to be counted among them. But I suppose if Paris Hilton wanted to be called The Honorable Whore from California she is entitled.

What Boxer is unaware of, and sorry, because I did not read all of the posts,
is that in the military it is permissible to call some one either sir, ma'am, or by their rank. But addressing some one by their rank in an interview, especially officers, is a sign of disrespect. When a lower rank addresses some one of a higher rank by their rank appellation, the lower rank is expressly pointing out the difference in their ranks. Colonel Jessup demanded that he be addressed as either Colonel or Sir. Notice the one or the other. But you can bet Jessup wanted the sir. Posted by: Jack at June 18, 2009 10:26 AM (Ss83y) 46

"" Boxer on Sarah Palin:
"My impression of Sarah Palin is that she can throw a very strong punch, a very sarcastic punch," Boxer began. "I think her speech was laced with ridicule. ... People will respond differently to that. It didn't move me very much. I was uncomfortable with it." "But the most important thing, it seems to me, is her record and her views," continued Boxer. "She's an extremist. And she's way out of the mainstream. And it's ... hard for me to imagine how Democrats, moderate Republicans, and moderate independents can embrace the McCain-Palin ticket." Yes Boxer, she does throw a mean punch to you feckless crapweasels. If you weren't such a feckless crapweasel - she wouldn't have to hit you. Get it? Oh, and the ridicule, you and all of the Marxist shitheels in D.C. deserve all of the ridicule that can be mustered. You earned it after all. By the way, it is GOVERNOR Palin to you bitch. You know, That Word is the only one I find offensive. However, there are times when it's use is appropriate.
And to make this about me, since everything is, all this name stuff is amusing to me. I have great fun answering "May I speak with Alex?" with "This is she." Generally throws people I don't know for a loop. I once had a lawyer call up being Boxer and Liz level imperious and say "I need to speak with Alex immediately." Me "This is she." Him *loud sigh* "I *said* I need to speak to Alex, not his assistant." Me "And, as I said, this is she." Him "I think that you need to instruct your receptionist to give calls to the person asked for and not to redirect to assistants who can be of no use." Me "And I think that you need to consider that Alex is a diminutive for Alexandria." Long long pause while I have my hand over my mouth to not openly laugh at him. Him "So, I proved I'm a jerk." Me "Pretty much, yes." After that we had a decent conversation what with him being humiliated and all. Good times. Good times. Posted by: alexthechick at June 18, 2009 10:32 AM (SHHaV) 51

The mainstream press has earned being called sycophantic, pandering, and condescending, racist. Why racist? The Senate on Wednesday night quietly passed a ban on the release of any photos that allegedly depict detainee abuse. ... Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., co-sponsors of the bill, had threatened to filibuster the war spending bill if they did not ultimately get a vote on their photo measure. With the supplemental heading back to the Senate after the House narrowly approved it Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., relented to Graham and Lieberman.
Isn't this only in this war spending bill because they let the IMF funding go through? If so, why isn't that in the story? If not can someone set me straight please? Posted by: momma at June 18, 2009 11:13 AM (penCf) 116

That respect that you think you've earned and get when people address you according to your whim? They aren't using your honorific because they like you or think you're worthy. The Navy is a bit different. On the boat, senior officers all had titles (Cap'n, XO, Eng, Weps, Nav, Chop (er, Supp-O). It was normally acceptable to use non-titled officer's rank. Sir was also acceptable, as was "Mr." for O1s and O2s. Grim Posted by: Grim at June 18, 2009 02:19 PM (gyNYk) 213

Boxer should be addressed by the titles she has worked long and hard to earn, liar, crook, and traitor.

"The only time I'm aware of Bush admonishing someone over that was during a press conference. One of the leftwing MSM reporters totally blew off decorum and Bush reminded him of his title. He was pretty restrained, all things considered. " Thank you, I'm glad somebody else remembered it, I tried to look for it, but couldn't find it. I actually do agree with you on some of your points, and I'm curious to see the entire exchange. From what I saw, she didn't seem 'uppity' to me. If she extended the courtesy of calling him by his title, then I think he should have naturally extended the same courtesy. We're not talking about some poor slob off the street, we're talking about a General, if anybody should understand addressing a person by their title, it's him, and any other person serving in our military. I guarantee he expects the same respect. Posted by: Crouching Puma at June 18, 2009 02:48 PM (1kwr2) 216

I guarantee he expects the same respect.
No, I guarantee he is called "Sir" but most of the people he deals with on a daily basis.
Being called "Ma'am" is not disrepectful in the least and, as many others have stated here, is pretty much SOP for anyone in the military.
Regardless of my personal opini0n of her (which, truct me, is not all that wonderful) Boxer is an arrogant, clueless and obnixious bitch for demanding that she be called "Senator."
Posted by: wiserbud at June 18, 2009 03:00 PM (zYoD/) 220
Well, that didn't format well.....
Posted by: wiserbud at June 18, 2009 03:03 PM (zYoD/) 221
The Senator was out of line. She was trying to humiliate a United States General in public. This is simply not acceptable, period. The General having more class, deferred, in a dignified manner. She on the other hand comes across as petty, cheap, and vindictive, at the very least. A real class act..... NOT. I hope and pray this video is shown to all the good men and women serving with honor and dignity to protect the Constitution and freedoms which we enjoy.

Posted by: George at June 18, 2009 04:02 PM (By3BV) 225
She sure as heck wasn't elected by *THIS* San Franciscan! Boxer was so far out of line here that it's indescribable. As plenty of folks have already said, that's how military personnel address those higher in rank! After all her "experience" in the Senate, she should've known that. She's just being a feminist jerk. Had a female military officer called Boxer "ma'am", Boxer wouldn't have said a damned thing.
What a jerk. Posted by: Steve Walker at June 18, 2009 04:11 PM (IX/bG) 226
I'm late to the show, so I don't know what the "c" word is. I asked Senator Boxer, and the cunt didn't know either!
Posted by: alex. at June 18, 2009 05:50 PM (hClzi) 227
You would think a senator would have more class. She probably doesn't know that even the queen of England can be address as ma'am according to protocol (kings can be addressed as sir).
Posted by: mikhail at June 18, 2009 06:11 PM (Wh3m2) 228
Damn, late again, what Grim said for the Navy. I can't imagine what the Cheng would have said if I called him Commander (actually he would have said "I command you to get me a Mountain Dew asshole") Now if a junior officer screwed up and didn't remember to call me by my first name in front of the kids, it would have been "Excuse me sir but ummm, these are anchors on the collar, how about a Chief, mmkay?" Posted by: navycopjoe at June 18, 2009 06:19 PM (r7J4F) 229
Can anyone say, Chip on her shoulder?
What an insecure little twat, so unworthy to even talk to a US Army general officer that dedicated his life to serve his country in harm's way. My apology, sir, for this stupid bitch. Posted by: CoolCzech at June 18, 2009 08:16 PM (teBup) 230

poor slob off the street, we're talking about a General, if anybody
should understand addressing a person by their title, it's him, and any
other person serving in our military. I guarantee he expects the same
respect."
Wrong. When addressing a superior (or subordinate) officer in the military, their title is used ONCE at the beginning of the conversation, and if desired by the speaker, he or she may use the title again at the end of the exchange. Then the rest of the time it is either "Yes, Sir." or "No, sir." (Or Ma'am) Boxer was demanding he refer to her as "Senator" right in the middle of his testimony when "Maam" was perfectly sufficient. I propose we here at AoS simply refer to her as "Senator Toolbox". Posted by: g at June 18, 2009 08:40 PM (FAYNo) 232
I would've loved to see the General come back with something Jessup-esque like "Sure thing Senator. And I'd also appreciate it if you address me by MY title, which is GENERAL. I'm pretty certain I've earned THAT." But he has too much class for that kind of thing. Posted by: thebronze at June 18, 2009 08:42 PM (oMHAH) 233

To those of you who mentioned the "c" word or "scunt", you have no balls. You're not talking to ms. bitch from californication you know. You're talking to the choir, so write like to want. Later.

As I was taughtas a youngster and in the Navy, you address a lady as ma'am. Period. It is simply good manners. The General was simply using good manners. And we all know that something sorely missing inside the beltway. Specifially in the Congress. As a Retired member from The Armed Forces, however, I no longer consider the Congress in my Chain of Command. Therefore, my Senators and Representative are addressed by their first names. I am the employer now. I always make that point in any communication with their offices. I am also no longer required to come to attention in any officials prescence, whether elected or not. In fact, they should "pop tall" in my prescence. I have done far more for the Republic than about 99 percent of them. And you ought to see how I treat those HS classmates of mine who treated me like crap when I made the decision to enter the Armed Forces in 1973. It ain't pretty. Note that I had not even enlisted yet. But it is a little bit of get even and it make me feel good. As for Babs, this basket case is not qualified to kiss the General's ass or the ass of any of us who have actually DONE SOMETHING for this country.
