| McCain Piles On: Obama Not Saying Enough On IranPoints out what has been pointed out in previous posts, there are certain principles over which we've been willing to "meddle". "People are being killed and beaten in the streets of Tehran and all over Iran, and we should stand up for them," he told FOX News. "The way we stood up for the Polish workers in Gdansk, the way we stood up for the people of then Czechoslovakia in the Prague Spring and we have stood up for freedom in every part of the world. We're not doing that."Credit where it's due, he's restating the obvious historical point about this nation. We didn't invade Eastern Europe over the Prague Spring, but neither did we roll over and fan ourselves about how we'd be perceived by Soviet satellite countries and meddling with their friggin sovereignty. He also doesn't buy into the argument that asserting the right of people to self-determination, the same one we recognize in our founding documents, gives an oppressive regime some sort of excuse to murder its citizens to protect their f'n' status quo. UPDATE via commenter eman: W won't criticize his successor, but is perfectly willing to criticize his retarded policies. Among my favorites: We tried to reform mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but couldn't get it through the vested interests on Capitol Hill.Mostly because this point needs to be hammered home. Good for him. Too bad this sort of stuff was the only thing he had going for him. If he'd been a reliable conservative he might have been able to do some good in the world, instead of sitting on the sidelines saying the sorts of things he hopes gets him back into the game.
No, I believe he's sincere. But damned if I'm not more than a little miffed that this was our candidate. One could make an interesting comparison between the Iranian mullahs who pick the candidates for their elections, and the Media mullahs here who do the same, although in a much more indirect way. Ultimate difference being, given the choice between simply abhorrent and completely batshit crazy extremist, the Iranian people seemed to go with abhorrent, notwithstanding the final vote "count". The problem here is that we all have idiots in both offices. I don't like McCain much at all. God how I long for the lesser of the evils as that is what this country passed up at the top of the ticket. Regardless, this is good to hear from anyone in our government. I was just watching videos of Basij thugs attacking a college campus in Isfahan, smashing windows, beating and killing students. I think that was the first time I have ever fervently prayed to God for someone's death.
I am now firmly resolved that if at any time, uniformed murderers are smashing down my windows, I'll shoot them down where they stand and damn the consequences. May God bless and protect the brave protesters of Iran, and deliver a painful death to the Basij, the IRG, and any of the Guardian Council or Iranian government officials who don't rapidly get off their ass and join the protesters. If any of you are praying types, you need to be praying now. Posted by: Mastiff at June 17, 2009 11:03 PM (8dy/N) 12

Ok, let me be couter-intuitive and throw something out as food for thought.... Don't get me started on Obama, but I have always thought there is a purpose for all things, and I have struggled to find the "purpose" in the O, or, as Ronaldus Magnus said, "there has to be a pony (in this pile of manure) here somewhere...." Where is the pony in this craven behavior by a US President? It is in this. The entire world, our allies and our "allies" (the latter we saw so clearly in 2002-2006), have been put on notice in a manner unambivalent and we are not kidding around: We are out of the freedom business for as long as this administration lasts. Out. Forget about it. Don't even look our way, you'll get nothing. What is good about this? Well, FAR too many people on this planet have taken liberty for granted. Of course they can march in the street and insult a US President (Bush) in the most vile of ways. Of course their even more radical cultural, academic and activist bretheren can send aid and comfort to those killing US soldiers, and they can just shrug their shoulders about it. "All part of the mosaic, mind you." Of course their freedom will be there tomorrow. It's just like rain, non? It always comes through, right?? Well, crunch time kiddies. Do you really care about liberty? Really? (we've been wondering of late.) Well, now you don't even have to prove it to us. Because it doesn't matter to us (our CinC at least). He doesn't care about our liberty, much less yours. There's nothing to discuss or convince each other about. We don't even have to argue about it. That's the deal. Tout fini. So the question to people all over the world is..... do YOU care about your, and others, liberty and freedom? Do you?? 'Cause it's on you now, for the forseeable future. I won't even go to how many of you had the same slobbering reaction to Obama that our press has. YOU (many overseas) helped put him there. Now YOU get to live.... or die.... with the results. The great Prophet Mark Steyn (pbuh) has wriiten extensively on the decline of the West, and it's decadence. Well, it's here. Evey non-American westerner grows a spine, NOW, right now..... or dies, civilizationally or literally. We are now beyond arguing about it. That is the world, 2009. Maybe that awareness is the higher purpose to Mr. Obama in the end. Maybe. Posted by: Andrew X at June 17, 2009 11:28 PM (E46Ts) 26
Amazing how fast the world spins into chaos and violence when its one superpower dons its paper-tiger personae.
Moral authority is not derived from strength. But when you have the opportunity to project moral authority from a position of strength, and you fail to for reasons of either a deep-seated PC avoidance of confrontation or of spite, you are either the most cringing sort of coward, or the most cynical type of tyrant. Either way leads to exponentially more bloodshed than a direct defense of (the now fading) Western values. Andrew X, That's a mighty fine silver lining you've found, but the cloud inside of that silver lining you found is that we're going to go through hell here at home. From the moment he hatched his purely negative "Hope'n'Change" campaign, Obama has been driving a wedge between the free men and the wannabe serfs in this country. Both sides are hardening, and I don't see a peaceful path to reintegration. Posted by: MikeO at June 17, 2009 11:39 PM (hz67i) 38
What's the quote? 'We're the champions of freedom everywhere, but defenders of only our own.'
Obama should certainly be saying that the people of Iran deserve free and fair elections, and we will refuse to support a regime that does not believe in traditional liberty. But, he's only a champion of his own selfish interests. I anticipate that the Mullahs will certify Dinnerjacket, authorize brutal crushing of the dissent, and Iran will remain as bellicose as ever. Obama will tell us that Iranians are right to have the sort of government they chose. On the El Douche score and the press I just finished Bernie Goldberg’s new book “The Slobbering Love Affair”.
It was a good read, noting though that we here at AOS didn’t already know and had remarked on earlier. I was in total agreement right up until he did a short paragraph on Sarah Palin and he took the squishie Republicrat stance. “She energized the base but did nothing to bring on the independents and moderates”.
This seems to be the refrain of the liberal Republican wing of the party. Any moron who actually takes a close look at the States which switched from the R column to the D column in the last election can see easily that a significant portion of the base stayed at home. If it had not been for Palin bringing some of the base out (like me) it would have been a 45 to 50 State blowout. I sincerely hope McLame loses a primary challenge in AZ because he is a worthless f***k.
He did say one thing that really intrigued me. He said that if the press had done its job in “vetting” the one that the damage from Wright and Ayers would have been such that Hillary would have been President today. He HeHe also said that the press had been so in the tank for Obambi that they now had a vested interest in making sure that there is no evil reported about him because he IS too big to fail. Hmm, imagine that. McCain correctly ascertaining an international problem, while Obama is too dumb to even find the problem's location on a map. Why should anyone be surprised? Say what you will about McCain, but at least he recognizes good and evil when he sees it. McCain probably would've made a lot of mistakes as president, but I'd sure as hell rather see him there than Obama - the current Iranian situation being just one reason. "Remember when the Republicans used to complain about Democrats who "carried on separate foreign policy" when Bush was in office?" Except Democrats actually did carry on a separate foreign policy. Pelosi went to Syria and basically told those terrorists running the place the opposite of Bush's policy. In the current situation, meanwhile, Republicans are merely voicing an opinion on the matter. Kinda different, don't ya think? But, hey, why should the Republicans be speaking up? It's not like we have freedom of speech in this country. *snark* Posted by: SpideyTerry at June 18, 2009 02:25 AM (sVpJk) 75

I saw a link to a story about this on the twitter feed last night. The lib blogger was bashing McCain for opening his mouth out of turn, and praising Obama's "temperament" and patience in the situation. Of course the favorite comparisons of McCain to Bush were made throughout his piece.
My rhetorical question to anyone who thinks like that is this: how many bodies exactly does it take to switch the meter from patient to ignorance? Remember when the US was the beacon of freedom for the world? 0 said he was going to give us change... no defense of freedom for anyone, home or abroad, is change. McCain doesn't help any issue. Anyone who thinks he can be half liberal and half conservative doesn't understand. And, nobody really wants him on their side. He is like the last kid to be picked for dodge ball, who half can't get out of the way and half thinks he deserves to be hit.

We have said it many times here; fuck McLame as he is the one MOST responsible for who we have in the WH now. Posted by: Vic at June 18, 2009 03:19 AM (5ynkO) 84
klrtz1,
The Democratic party has been anti-democratic, at least, since FDR. I would guess it goes back before that, but this is when they put an official stamp on the notion. Still, half or more of the Republican party is no better, the higher up the chain, the more anti-democratic the actual party is, with reps sort of splitting the push.
I have given up on politics. It is not that I was looking for answers from it, but actually just the opposite. I was looking for politicians and leadership which would begin closing down the government and getting out of the business of 'ruling' us. At this point the choice of rights erosion and increase in government management comes down to fast or faster. McCain was a little faster than Reps and a little slower than Dems, nothing new or special.

Does it strike anyone else that a US endorsement of Mousavi could well be hugely counterproductive here? I'm no fan of Obama by any stretch, but I'm thinking he's playing this one correctly.

"Government does not create wealth. The major role for the government
is to create an environment where people take risks to expand the job
rate in the United States," he (Bush) said to huge cheers.
Geez. I remember when Ronald Reagan took office and I believed in his vision of America and begged, borrowed, and stole (metaphorically) every dollar I could to expand my business, buy new equipment, and hire new employees. Worked for me. But the (D)'s will only believe that by returning to a FDR style of government spending and make-work 'jobs' programs will create wealth. Back in the 30's, with the slow transfer of information, that might have worked - or at least the public was willing to wait a decade or so for the economy to recover. One term for Obama. Good to see the (R)'s going back on the offensive again. They need to hammer home the 180 degree difference in points of view here. To be fair, Methos, you supported Sarah, McCain just happened to be on the ticket. No most of these people criticizing the conservatives aren't neocons either, Frum was but he's one step away from selling out Israel, and joining his wife on the Huffington Post. They are more what Donald calls liberaltarians, nominal libertarian, who really have no objection to government power..

Bush's criticism of Obama's "policies," reveals all of what is wrong with Bush and that entire family. America is being destroyed by an ignorant, racist America-hating bastard, but Bush will hold himself above the fray and just criticize his "policy."
Bush never sees this is a knife fight to the death, he wants to wear a suit and tie, go to correspondent dinners and joke around. What kind of men put their own sense of fair play and a patrician viewpoint above the survival of their country? Bush should out with a Bowie knife and fight. He should apologize for being railroaded into the stimulous package and opening the door to this socialist pig. He did the same thing after 911, he does the right thing in going after the Jihadist, but he also starts calling Islam the "Great religion of peace." That is the frustratin and anger any true conservative has about Bush, it is like he "almost gets it." I trusted John McCain on matters of national security, his foreign policy expertise, and even on the economy. His campaign imploded during the financial crisis, but I never heard some BS out of his mouth about punishing the productive parts of our economy and rewarding welfare trash for voting straight ticket for socialism. Too bad the old man felt pointing any of this out would be unsportsmanlike; he didn't even have the balls to defend his own running mate -- a woman, and a good one at that, who dragged her own children into his trainwreck of a campaign. I knew John McCain was better than our current Resident of the US, but God he's an asshole.
