| Good News...Hezbollah Defeated In Lebanon ElectionsI like to think the White House is happy about this, I know I am Heavy turnout in Christian districts returned to power a Western-backed coalition in the Lebanese parliament on Sunday, thwarting a bid by the Islamist Hezbollah party to increase its influence. Preliminary results showed that the March 14 coalition of Sunni Muslims and Christians won at least 70 seats in the country's 128-member parliament. The group currently holds 70 seats, but vote counting in several closely contested districts continued through the early morning and could add to the total. In brief victory remarks, coalition leader Saad Hariri said the country's competing factions must "give a hand to each other and have the will to go back to work." Hariri is the son of the former prime minister, Rafiq al-Hariri, a Sunni whose 2005 assassination helped sweep the March 14 group to power. And a big "Screw You" to Syria as well? Yeah, that calls for Lebanese protest babes! ![]() CommentsPosted by: Aaron at June 07, 2009 08:05 PM (gftD1) 2

Well Aaron, I'm pro lesbianese as well.
As to whether the White House will be happy about this, I feel bad for these pro-western factions when Hezbollah decides to put the hammer down. The current administration has made it clear that they will not get involved (you know, no country can impose a certain form of government on another country, unless that country is Iran and it's financing Hezbollah.) So Hillary, as SecState will mouth the words but when push comes to shove, they'll be under the bus. Posted by: sears poncho at June 07, 2009 08:12 PM (uj/0b) 7
Of course Hezbollah lost. We kicked them out of Lebanon. I said so in the debate, so you know it's true. If not, that would mean I'm an idiot.

I feel this election proves I am right again. Although provocative in nature, the outcome was a bit insidious. Emotions were perculating throughout the region, but the vote was kinitically reversable. Just as I predicted in one of my earlier statements from the White House. Joe Biden will back me on this one.

I just hope that the Hezzies don't try something foolish, like an attempted coup or something, to prop up Ahmedinejad before the Iranian "election". Tomorrow Bambi is going to take credit for this outcome, and of course he didn't have jack shit to do with it. When we have a Republican President, the world gets a negative view of American resolve and morality from the media, and they meekly toe the line with their oppressors. When we have a Dem President, they all of a sudden get positive news, and they start standing up. People who get their information form newspapers and talking heads atrribute this to the President of the moment. Thinking people understand it is the propaganda of the moment, and wonder why a megaphone that could effectively promote values of peace and strength even in the Middle East is turned off when the media doesn't like a President. Good fucking question, isn't it? Posted by: sherlock at June 07, 2009 08:50 PM (L4jPh) 17

Unfortunately, Hizbollah and their Iranian masters are quite happy to assasinate any politician who does not do as they say. The elections say something good about the non-hezbollah Lebanese, but Hizbollah is a terrorist organization and quite willing to start a civil war if they don't get their way. In the end, as usual, the ruthless will win. Of course, the One could do somehing to help democracy - except he already said he wouldn't. I sure hope no Lebanese were counting on US help. They, like the Israelis, are on their own. Posted by: BattleofthePyramids at June 07, 2009 09:02 PM (SR0As) 22

If you didn't scan last night's ONT, do so. Muffy and I have a lot of important links posted there that might interest you.
Here is a new link via gateway pundit: The White House estimates that the government will rack up an unprecedented $1.8 trillion budget deficit this year - more than four times last year's all-time high. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke acknowledged Wednesday in congressional testimony that large budget deficits could threaten financial stability by eventually eroding investor confidence and endangering the economy's prospects for long-term health.
Note to Dems: You can't tax and spend your way out of a recession. You can't dick suck the unions and expect them to stimulate the economy. You can't steal from the working and give to the poor, and expect anything but booze, food, and flat screen TVs to be purchased. You can't boink the inviro wackos and expect jobs to be created, well, unless pot growers, bong makers, and patchouli bottlers count. You can't play a game and not expect us to use it against you. I'm not fully astute on M/E political dynamics outside of the big picture stuff.

Aaron, that's part of it, but not all of it. Labour in the UK is going to finish the European elections 14-16% of the vote. That's its worst performance since it became a mainstream party at the end of WWI. The level to which Gordon Brown is despised, even by most of his own party, is hard to even put into words.

T-Dub's head explodes BRUSSELS – Conservatives scored victories in some of Europe's largest economies Sunday as voters punished left-leaning parties in European parliament elections in France, Germany and other nations. Right-leaning governments were ahead of the opposition in Germany, France, Italy and Belgium, while conservative opposition parties were leading in Britain and Spain. The spin on this will the dangerous emergence of far right extremists in Europe. It is rather disheartening in that Europe is (for now) voting out the left parties and America elected a full out Marxist. Posted by: TheQuietMan at June 07, 2009 09:59 PM (wVOlO) 42

And our military will be willing, but our president will be calling for a resupply of Q tips to clean the soapy part of his large ears (you know the ears that are Sphinx like in size and proportion). We were lucky and blessed enough to send one of the best men for the job in history, Ronaldus Magnus, to hand him his walking papers. Far from being happy about the result, I'd be shocked if more than a handful of WH staffers even knew elections were taking place. It was never mentioned on Comedy Central or the Tavis Smiley show, and the only Huff-n-Puff references to Lebanon relate to how good tha hash is. More broadly, I bet 10,000 Quatloos that if you showed the entire WH staff a world map and gave them 10 seconds to pinpoint Lebanon, most of them could not do it. When a friend's success in the blessings of friends, there is no jealousy, not to harbor bitter resentment, remember everyone is in fact very good. Let us work together to have a better world.
