| The Obama's Date NightSo, what did you do last night? I'm guessing it didn't involve 3 Air Force jets, several USMC helicopters and adoring crowds. "I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished," the president said yesterday after touching down at JFK for an intimate night on the town. ...The first stop after touch ing down at JFK was a meal at a low-key, but elegant, Greenwich Village restau rant, Blue Hill, which boasts farm fresh, locally grown dishes. ...Then it was up to Broadway, where they had tickets at the Belasco Theatre for "Joe Turner's Come and Gone," a play by August Wilson about a man coming to terms with the history of slavery. The final tab for the President's night out.... Dinner and two tickets? A couple of hundred bucks Transportation and security? Certainly well north of $100,000 (uneducated guess...it probably approaches a $1,000,000 or more) Knowing the press has your back? Priceless. I'm of two mind about this. A President shouldn't be a prisoner in the White House and the simple fact is it's expensive for him to do anything. It's just the reality of the modern world. What does bother me is that had George W. Bush or any Republican had done this, especially during this economy, the Democrats and their press mouthpieces would be going nuts. Just another one for the file I guess. Of course the real question is, did the President 'get lucky' last night? Comments1
'Get lucky' in this case means he DIDN'T have to do Michelle.

The Idiot Messiah flies to NYC to take Michelle on a night on the town, and the press... (crickets chirping). And about that quadrupling the deficit thing... (more crickets).

Dear Diary,
I had the locally grown East River Sea Bass and he had the Yonkers Free Range Ribs. A delectable dish when in season. Afterwards, after the Biden Play, we snuggled in AF1. Barry joked about buzzing the Statue again...what a kidder. When we touched down again in DC I had forgot my purse and we had to make a quick run back since I was out of birth control and we can't have a First Pregnant lady, my what contorversy that would start....to be continued.. Posted by: Lieutenant Worf at May 31, 2009 10:50 AM (Am6n/) 24
What made me want to puke was that “fair and balanced” news network coverage of this when it happened. The announcer, who was not a normal regular, made a statement that they got off the helicopter “dressed to the nines”. What I saw was that ugly ass dress that Worf was wearing and Il Douche in a suit with no tie. I guess this liberal idiot doing that show couldn’t go any further without actually describing the “leg tingle thing”.
Another thing that bothers me about this latest episode is the supreme arrogance and distain for the common man this represents. All modern presidents (at least since I have been knowledgeable on issues) have avoided these kinds of trips because of the impact on the public. Think about the people who spent months in advance of getting those tickets, or maybe even those reservations to eat. Their evenings were most likely spoiled by the intrusion of SS agents and other security issues. Most presidents nowadays for a relaxing night out will go to Camp David or their own “ranches” like Bush did. I think idiot Billy Bob used to go play golf like Eisenhower did, but that was at “private clubs” and was also arrogant. Posted by: Vic at May 31, 2009 10:51 AM (BYokb) 25
Were I president, and I never will be, but were I president, I would never walk into a burger joint.
The security and press interference would actually HARM that business, and I would never do that. I have no problem with the pres using Marine 1 and AF 1 to travel, but to be so blithe about the impact of his presence ALONE on various venues, is a selfish act. If I wanted to be "A Man of the People." I would send out the WH chef, or an assistant to get me a Schoops or an "in and out" or a "house of pizza pizza" or I would have the WH Chef try to imitate those creations. And I wouldn't interfere with those favored businesses, by having the shop inspected, the grounds cleared, and making room for the press. I would simply let the WH Chef leak that "he's a big fan of Schoops, and In and Out, and House of Pizza, but as president, he can't have those childhood favorites anymore, now he's "stuck" with me." or something like that. See, part of being "a man of the people" is not being a dick to the people you are supposedly a part of. Posted by: Douglas at May 31, 2009 10:51 AM (uU+Ss) 26

I wondered about that statement. What is locally grown in The City beside smog? What is their definition of “local”. The real question is what did they actually eat and where were the ingredients obtained. Reading that NY Post article it sounds exactly like the Fox report which means they were both done from a WH press (PR) release. Posted by: Vic at May 31, 2009 11:23 AM (BYokb) 47

I just realized something. Obama's been showing his faces in all those joints owned by whoever the fuck alot recently but this is sort of endorsing these businesses. President Inc. hasn't really done this because advertising for a business is quite low according to their standards. So Obama while not a member of President Inc. yet, he seems to be casually endorsing businesses indirectly.

Anybody got the, ahem, radical Islamists fax #? I'm sure that they'd peaceably resolve their differences. "In a nondescript building next to a mosque in downtown Karachi, Pakistan, the Qadeer brothers discreetly make and market a million dollars' worth of fetish and bondage products a year for Americans and Europeans (through sales to stores and on eBay). In fact, if the radical Islamic office down the street knew about the Qadeers' work, they might be in trouble, according to an April New York Times dispatch, but fortunately, the gag balls, corsets and whips such as the "Mistress Flogger" are so odd for Pakistan that even the veiled women who sew them for the Qadeers do not understand that Americans use them for sex play. Customs officials, for example, were puzzled about how to categorize the items for tax purposes. "If our mom knew (the nature of our business)," said brother Adnan, "she would disown us." Blue Hill is an excellent restaurant. And they most definitely didn't get out of there for a couple hundred bucks. Unless they didn't eat. But here's the real travesty of this whole fiasco:
Nobody knew he was coming. My wife and step sons had tickets for Hair. They ate at Virgils, a very popular, several hundred seat barbecue place. When it was time for them to leave for the show, THEY COULD NOT. They were kidnapped, held forcibly against their will at the restaurant, for half an hour. No one could get in or out because of this selfish prick. They were a half hour late for their show, as I'm sure many dozens of others were late for their shows, and Virgils couldn't turn over any tables for half an hour, which is a big deal in the restaurant business. My guess would put their loss around ten thousand. This is the second time he has terrorized New York. Please President No-Fun for Anyone Else, stay the fuck out of my town unless it's official business. You suck and we know it. Posted by: commander0 at May 31, 2009 11:47 AM (V8K0a) 69

I recently saw a new news clip with Obama ordering a hamburger, again, at a joint just outside of the WH. When the male jorno asked the lady jorno who was narrating the story, "Don't they make hamburgers in the WH cafeteria?" the lady jorno replied, "Yes, but Obama doesn't like those burgers so he goes out to this place daily for their burgers." Pretty expensive. Also, a good way to get ganked. If I was Obama, I'd tell the WH cooks to make burgers the way I liked 'em. I guess Obama is too shy for that, though, and doesn't want to dictate./

I think Metro and Worf deserve anything they want. Hello, they're black! Don't you know how hard they've had it because of the color of their skin. Imagine if they were white: Barry would just be some jug-eared skinny white guy who grew up in Hawaii and went to private schools his whole life. It would be assumed he got there because of his privileged life. He would have to hear, his whole life, about how evil America's past is, and how, because he is white, didn't really earn all he worked hard for. Michelle wouldn't have gotten into the same schools because, admittedly, her grades weren't very good. She would have to endure a great deal of minorities whining that she was privileged, no matter her background, simply because of the color of her skin. That, and they wouldn't be considered cool. But, we'd have President Hillary. Posted by: gator at May 31, 2009 12:29 PM (yUiO3) 98

How's this for affirmative action?
Law firms are under a lot of pressure to maintain diversity - there are stats and reviews in various legal publications and certain clients won't give you work unless you maintain certain diversity minimums (Wal Mart is big into this). I work in a practice group with about 45 lawyers, and right now the firm is conducting "enhanced performance reviews", which is a nice way of saying the group leader has to lay off the bottom 15% of the group, regardless of whether those people are good lawyers and doing a good job or not. Of course, it is never that simple. As with most big law firms, we have a pretty low number of African American attorneys. At present we have only two AA females in the normal associate track. As part of the review, the midlevel female AA associate was placed on probation, basically given 6 months to shape up - while this may seem harsh, this associate is actually pretty lazy and performs a year or two below her nominal class year - would she still be employed at all if for race and gender? Here's where it gets really bad - they also decided to lay off one senior associate, and the two candidates were the other AA female and a white male, married with kids. Naturally the white male got the ax, and even my very liberal colleagues acknowledge that the decision could not have been based on anything but race and gender, since the guy is a smart, hard worker, while the female, though not dumb, is not a particularly hard worker and is in no hurry to take on extra work. Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't have fired either on a good day, but there's no question who is the better attorney. Posted by: BigLawGuy at May 31, 2009 02:03 PM (hDyHJ) 110

They had pent-up energy after 12 years of Republican rule, and they believed their own propaganda that Republicans were wicked. They were oafish: One dragooned a government helicopter to go play golf. President Obama’s staff is far less entertaining. They’re smooth, impeccable, sophisticated, like the boss." Don't know if someone has already mentioned it, but I checked this out on the web, since a couple of hundred seemed low to me:
Tickets to that show: $50 - $339 each, depending on where you sit. Price for entrees at the Blue Hill Restaurant: About $32. I would say the cost for that was probably closer to $600, minumum. But - one presumes they paid for this themselves. The thing that's aggravating about this trip has nothing to do with them having a night out, but the fact that they just casually travel to NYC for a night out. Like that time they went to Chicago for Valentine's Day. Most people don't just causally fly to other cities for their nights out. (Much less with such an expensive entourage.) Posted by: Alana at May 31, 2009 08:45 PM (JE2zV) 146
The "locally grown ingredients" apparently refers to a farm in upstate NY. On the website for the restaurant, the first thing you see is three locations, and there is a little farm icon for one of them.

This is a full-fledged Cult of Personality, folks. This is waaaaay past the American Idol stuff.
