Swarthy, Indonesian-Educated Man Threatens Crowd at Hotel Auditorium: "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet!"

Dropping in a terrorist joke in the headline, so maybe I'll be mentioned on O'Reilly. I mean, they didn't even call Obama "Hussein" and still O'Reilly claimed they did.

And plus, Allah wrote the same headline I would have, so I have to go somewhere else.

Obama arrogantly ticks off all of his "accomplishments' -- mostly small-bore stuff. The credit card thing? It seems basically good, from what I know of it, but generally such bills are considered housekeeping measures, not major political victories.

He doesn't mention his greatest accomplishment -- spending the once-mighty US economy into ruin.

More at Hot Air. He also didn't mention his heroic fight to keep gay marriage illegal.

3 The credit card thing? It seems basically good, from what I know of it, but generally such bills are considered housekeeping measures, not major political victories.

This is part of the problem. People who pay their CC bills will be paying higher rates and lose their rewards programs because politicians think those that don't are penalized too much.

Posted by: rancho at May 28, 2009 03:39 PM (NegFp)

5 Lorien, yeah, but what about increasing the interest rate without warning on a balance already accumulated?

I borrow at 10%, then it's raised to 12%? Retroactively? Fine if you want to make me pay that on new debt; but on the debt I already accumulated at the 10% rate?

Yes, I know the contract specifies this. The contracts say they can do whatever they like. But that's kind of a problem.

In law, these are called "contracts of adhesion." No one really negotiates these things. They are take-it-or-leave-it propositions. In such cases I don't think it's a bad thing for the government to set the ground rules and to avoid unfair surprise on the part of borrowers.

Anyway, the bigger point is that wherever you come out on this, it's a pretty small bit of legislation. But Obama gropes at "accomplishments" apart from spending the nation into ruin.

Well the people at that fundraiser all have enough money to not have to worry about the cost of all this.  So of course this radical social change is exciting to them.

As a side note, it seems that Obama is starting to get better at delivering a speech w/o a teleprompter.  (Assuming he didn't have one there; didn't seem like he did).

I cannot agree on the credit card ploy. This is a step in a certain direction. After some further discontent, further steps will be taken. Having had government as an educator and financier, now you'll get to try it as your landlord and car-builder; certainly having it as your credit-debt holder can't be a great jump from there.

Pay up. sucka. Bottom rail on top now.

34 Funny thing about that HotAir link...

O'Reilly went on the defensive a while back when some nutjob in TN went on a killing spree (can't remember what for) and they found a copy of one of his books in the perp's living room. His defense was you can't hold him responsible for what a nutjob, who happened to read his book, does.

I guess O'Reilly thinks that standard doesn't apply to blogs. The blog author/owner is now responsible for any comments nutjobs post as a visitor to their site.

I keep trying to imagine how my kids are going to live and survive this impending doom. I have no solutions, and no answers. IF the GOP would get there act together people would not feel so much despair, but they cannot and will not. I guess the only real benefit of all this is that families will become closer, and perhaps, just once in their lifetimes, some on the Left will finally realize why we love America and our democracy/republic so very much.

I think that with this speech, Obama is showing his weakness: arrogance.  There has been plenty of pushback against his policies that wasn't really there when he was elected.  If he responded to this by slowing down his agenda, he could probably manage to maintain his popularity.  But the more he pushes and the more radical the "change" gets, the more people will push back, and his popularity will suffer.  It seems that he doesn't understand this fact.  He seems to think that he will always have the popularity and support that he enjoyed for the first couple months of his presidency.  Reminds me of the story of Icarus and makes me wonder if he will have the restraint to not fly too high.

89 but let's keep on with the Obama is the socialist devil meme...its far more entertaining than acknowledging him to be the moderate who has pissed off the left as much as the right in trying to do the right thing

He pissed off the left on certain issues only because he had no choice.  Close Gitmo?   Dem congress won't allocate the money, and nobody wants the prisoners in their state.   Ending "Don't ask, don't tell?"  The generals, wary of a liberal Dem by nature, would go berserk at what it would do to morale.    Fairness Doctrine?  If there's a better way to energize a moribund Republican party, I don't know what it is.

On the issues where he could get away with it, he's been off the charts liberal.

98 The "credit card thing" is far from good. It's an abhorrent continuation of Obama and the progressive's inability to understand risk management. Consider, why in the world should we charge a 15-time drunk driving teen-age male who's had 5 crashes in the past year and killed three teen passengers any more than one of the Ace of Spades adult drivers with nothing on their record in the past decade other than a speeding ticket (usually from a speed trap revenue generation effort)?

The credit card act moves to diminish the capacity for drivers to be charged differently for insurance, in this analogy. It creates price controls on how much issuing banks can charge for the risk taken. The result will either be the socialization of costs (gosh, haven't we heard of that concept before with Obama?) or the elimination of risk. I'm aware of both underway at issuing banks.

Pay your balance off on time every month? Good by. Get lost. You represent a statistical risk to the issuer (e.g. you suddenly lose your job, run up your balance and default). You're not paying them to take that risk. Take a hike. Forget about those with any credit blemishes. Troubles on the home loan for a few months? You're screwed, unless you want one of those deadbeat guaranteed balance credit cards that also charges you $25/month for the privilege of having one.

Sure, you can shift to debit. I hope you're ready for the additional risk you bear with that. Unlike your credit card, you're on the hook for much of your potential loss to fraud, and worse yet, have much greater burdon of proof to demonstrate you were fraudulantly impacted. Switch to check? Same risk. Cash? Good luck with that outside of your local community.

Obama's move is just another way to throw bricks into the machine of commerce, causing it all to break down so he can be there to "rescue" us along with his good friends from ACORN.

They don't have to be. In other enlightened parts of the world that the Left is so happy to use as reference, education funds are attached to the children, not to schools. So if a particular school fails to provide even adequate instruction, the parents can move their kids out which can't be done in the US.

The point, which you seem incapable of grasping, is that our taxpayer system is expensive, inefficient, and inferior compared to the education systems of even poorer countries. We pay a lot more and receive a lot less in return without any reform. Hence some parents opting out. Which I guess in your world is a bad evil thing. All animals should be equal, right?

That's my point exactly. There are many things our tax money is spent on that we wouldn't consider socialism. What makes healthcare so unique from education or defense? Healthcare affects the nation in so many aspects as do education and defense spending. My point is be consistent. Posted by: palin steele at May 28, 2009 05:19 PM (VDj74)

162 That's my point exactly. There are many things our tax money is spent on that we wouldn't consider socialism. What makes healthcare so unique from education or defense? Healthcare affects the nation in so many aspects as do education and defense spending. My point is be consistent. If you want to call nationalized healthcare socialism, fine...but then label public school socialism as well. Don't pick and choose.

It's  philosophical.  I believe private enterprise is better than government, and all things being equal, a private enterprise will always outperform a government enterprise.  But as I said, there are certain activities that have to be government run (national defense).  We have the best quality health care in the world.  Yes, we have too many uninsured. Yes, costs are out of control.  But don't turn my health care into a visit to the DMV.   Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.  Tweak the system.

Because things are in the crapper doesn't mean they always will be, pal. Who do you think is buying up all those foreclosures in California and Florida? And why? Think about it. Real estate is and always has been cyclical (that means it goes up and down in value, nitwit.) So does the stock market, bonds, your hand on your dick.

If, and I admit, it's a big if, Obama and Geithner don't ruin our economy completely, things will improve. And when they do, some folks are going to realize some very large capital gains. If they don't have to pay huge amounts of tax on those gains, they will re-invest it, and start the process all over again. Capitalism, sonny boy, it works if the politicians keep their grubby hands out of it.

169 What makes healthcare so unique from education or defense?

Defense is different from both healthcare and education.  National defense is a constitutional requirement of the FedGuv.  Healthcare and Education are woven out of the "general welfare" of the constitution, but really are explicitly defined as issues the state governments should coordinate as they were before the constitution was drafted.

I'd put Healthcare and Education together as they are the two most regulated industries in the country which naturally makes them the least competitive with the highest prices all under the concept that they're good, effective, and available to all.  Clearly they are not, so why have so much regulation now and compound the problem with more regulation pushing small city state type of problems onto the Federal government's plate?

Anecdotally, what I observe in parents that take the huge risk of home schooling or trying to find a way to send their children to private school is the lack of trust they have in the public education system to provide meaningful rearing in the critical subjects their children must learn at their age and stage of development.  The more these strong families withdraw from the public educational system, the worse the public education system becomes.

It's a lot like a sports team with a superstar and highly effective role players around them.  Take away a few of those role players that the superstar on a good team looks mediocre and underperforms.  Or a band with a drummer that is the glue of the group that gets run out of the band for silly reasons.

Certainly not one the federal government has any Constitutional authority to interfere with one way or the other.

No, it is not a right.  Education is a privilege.  Ask yourself how you can grow and recede the right to free expression.

Education and Healthcare live in the physical world.  They are the product of taking resources and directing them efficiently to provide the most cost effective benefits to the greatest number of users.

Speech and Expression do not live in a physical world with boundaries like this.  It's only boundary is the human that owns it and chooses to use it or not.

hey guys, i'm a democrat so i speak idiot, let me try to explain it to palin steele.

economy for tools 101 by professor joe Phd corona with lime U

check it out.  say i'm 5 yo and i really want to buy a bike which costs me say 100 bucks (yearly projected goal). i check my piggy bank and damn it all, i only got 5 bucks. what to do, what to do... i know, i'll sell lemonaide (business).

okay, i need lemonaide mix, a cardbox for the stand, sugar, water, and cups.  to the store i go, but oh hell, to get everything for my business, i need 20 bucks (startup costs).  so i go to dad for the rest (investor)

now i need help getting the lemonaide ready, selling it, so i get my two sisters to help out. (employees)  in the beginning, lots of business, making tons of quarters.  my sisters get their cut and they buy ice cream.  i pay my dad back and off to the store i go to buy more supplies.

Oh no!!!  gas went up so shipping costs went up to so now i need 30 bucks for my goods (shipping cost passed to the consumer) so back i go to dad.  since i made the money back to pay him he says okay (investor confidence is high)

oops, bad day selling, and now i can barely pay back dad and pay my sisters but i need that bike, i know, i'll fire one of my sisters (now less taxes paid to state and less spending for the economy)  i pay back dad and ask for some back for supplies but he says your selling is low so maybe i'll hold off lending you some money, use what you have (oh oh, investor confidence is low, less investing)

so i go buy the cheapest brands i can afford.  back to selling, i'm doing really bad because that kid down the street is selling the higher priced stuff that tastes better (consumer demand for quality) and also losing out to the girl around the block who sells it for a nickle a cup because she only charges a dime (aka china who uses cheap labor compared to our unions)

now, i pay of my sister with what i have made and and to lay her off.  crap. but who is this, an inspector with the states saying i have to have my lemonaid at a certain temperature and must have a bacteria test once a month (goverment regulation0  now with the extra costs, i can't expand my stand and hire my sisters back to to earn the money for the bike, now i have to charge a buck a cup.

no one buys from me now because they can get the same cup for a dime, or better lemonaide elsewhere, so i have to quit the stand and never get the bike (which of course represented my retirement)

get it?

Trans: State-managed public education is a success because of her personal ignorance of anybody having petitioned for its abolition.  Political activity concerning voucher systems either has not been happening or does not count.
Lorien1973 @ 104 (Trans): Political activity concerning voucher systems has been happening and does count.  It indicates the extent of the unpopularity of your favored system.
Ombudsman @ 105 (Trans): Political activity concerning voucher systems has been happening and does count.  It indicates the extent of the unpopularity of your favored system.

Trolin Steele @ 106 "Free education is not perfect and no one would claim such but public schools is still better than no schools. "
Trans: Watch me hoist up these goalposts and start walking backwards.  Now I've shifted the argument to whether we should have unpopular and ineffective public schools or NO schools.  Therefore, by analogy, we're now arguing about whether we should have Obambified medical care or NO medical care.
Trolin Steele @106 ".you do realize not all families are rich like yours and can afford to send their kids to 20,000 a year K-12 programs, right?"
Trans:  Plus I've just now decided, based on nothing, that my critics are all wealthy and therefore their opinions can be dismissed with no actual rebuttal.

Trolin Steele @111 "And where does the government magically get money to give as tuition vouchers to parents?"
Trans: State governments disbursing tax revenues in the form of tuition vouchers makes it okay for the Federal government to disburse tax revenues in the form of government-rationed medical care.

Nickless @ 123 "Ah, now we're into the straw man arguments."

Stoopy say: Yeah, that plus the goal-post-shifting, the projection, the argument-from-ignorance, and the analogy that backfires on her ... pretty typical performance, all around.  What do the East German judges say?

I can't watch this jug-eared fuck without thinking thoughts that are extremely disturbing.  I'm sure that the shitheads on the left felt similar things about GWB but at least he wasn't such a media whore as this third-world thug wannabe that he appeared on prime time all the fucking time for absolutely zilch.  When Odumbfuck comes on the tv, it gets turned off; likewise the radio unless it's a sound byte on Laura Ingraham and I know that the sub-retard will be ridiculed for being the craven idiot that he is.

222 In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.
We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragments huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

223 In this short a period of time, even allowing for the complexity of a smooth running economy, would anyone be crazy enough , arrogant enough or stupid enough to claim they had something under control and with no worries?

Its like taking a rank amateur pilot and giving them take the controls of a large commercial jet and then having that junior pilot say in the first few seconds, "I got it all under control don't worry."

My fellow pilot friends will have a laugh at the inevitable playing out of this attempt.

The scary thing is, many people on the left sincerely think this.  They have such an absolutist and authoritarian mentality that they are not liberal-or-conservative or right-or-left.  They are just correct, realistic, honest, pragmatic.

Reason #275 why you can't talk to liberals.

How dumb do you have to be to NOT know what your own worldview is?

Amen.

Zero:  the reason the "mute" button was invented.  I've also been missing a lot of Rush lately. When he starts with those clips, my gag reflex goes into overdrive.

The one bright spot -- Obamateur is practically making every damn one of the GOP's 2010/'23 commercials for them.  If they can't annihilate the entire dem party, it's time for us Morons to start accepting RSVPs to Ace's Jonestown: Drink Till Ya Drop

238 Players are always fighting in Runescape. It’s one of the reasons the game is so popular, being able to go to another world, attack monsters, and take their treasure . It’s adventure. It’s excitement. It’s fun. Especially through outstanding account.
And one of the best parts about combat (melee combat) is that it is by far the cheapest of all three combat methods.Ranging costs buy runescape gold because it requires the use of arrows. Magic costs even more because it requires lots and lots of runes. But melee combat is relatively cheap. The only and runescape money for sale you must spend is on your weapons and armor. Once you buy those things, you don’t have to keep buying more and more stuff to keep fighting. As you gain levels in Runescape, you will be able to buy better and better equipment. The better you get, the better the weapons and armor you can use, which makes you better able to keep your buy runescape accounts leveling-up.
And while we are getting the basics out of the way, let’s take a second to learn about the world of Runescape. Or rather, the worlds.
