LONDON(AFP) (AFP) - US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday the Obama administration wanted to paint roofs an energy-reflecting white, as he took part in a climate change symposium in London.

The Nobel laureate in physics called for a "new revolution" in energy generation to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

And painting cars in cool or light colours could deliver considerable savings on energy use for air conditioning units, he said.

The insanity never stops.

OK. Seriously though... Yes, if you have a very reflective building, the sunlight will not heat the building as much. But where does the light go?

I mean what, if it reflects off your roof... it shoots straight through the atmosphere and way back out into space and causes global warming on Mars?

This guy is a physicist?

Actually as a kid about 13 or 14,  I proposed to my father that we try to invent a shingle system that could be flipped over sideways (like card dealers do when they spread out the cards) to go from black to white or white to black depending on the season.  He said that's a good idea, now why don't you go outside and play.

10 Painting the roof may actually adjust the temperature models significantly.  Since they built buildings and parking lots around the sensors in the past 30 years causing this hysteria, this would at least mitigate that effect somewhat.

Of course, moving the sensors away from heat sources would also be a good idea.

Then they'll think they fixed it and start in on something else.

Don't encourage them.

From the Washington Post...an article on considering slapping the VAT on our under-taxed populace.

"Everybody who understands our long-term budget problems understands we're going to need a new source of revenue, and a VAT is an obvious candidate," said Leonard Burman, co-director of the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, who testified on Capitol Hill this month about his own VAT plan. "It's common to the rest of the world, and we don't have it."

I have no idea if the VAT is a good or bad idea, in itself, but the underlined portion strikes at the heart of where the conservative movement better wake up and fight...it's our frikin money and the government needs to think of ways to let us keep more of it, not the other way around.  How about needing a new source of fiscal responsibility, i/e budget constraints and cuts?  All they can think of is how can we get more.

It starts with painting your roof white then the government starts telling you what foods to eat. From a link on Drudge:

GIVE up lamb roasts and save the planet. Government advisers are developing menus to combat climate change by cutting out “high carbon” food such as meat from sheep, whose burping poses a serious threat to the environment.

Out will go kebabs, greenhouse tomatoes and alcohol. Instead, diners will be encouraged to consume more potatoes and seasonal vegetables, as well as pork and chicken, which generate fewer carbon emissions.

“Changing our lifestyles, including our diets, is going to be one of the crucial elements in cutting carbon emissions,” said David Kennedy, chief executive of the Committee on Climate Change.

Economic recovery Barry style.

May 27 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. economy will enter “hyperinflation” approaching the levels in Zimbabwe because the Federal Reserve will be reluctant to raise interest rates, investor Marc Faber said.

Prices may increase at rates “close to” Zimbabwe’s gains, Faber said in an interview with Bloomberg Television in Hong Kong. Zimbabwe’s inflation rate reached 231 million percent in July, the last annual rate published by the statistics office.

“I am 100 percent sure that the U.S. will go into hyperinflation,” Faber said. “The problem with government debt growing so much is that when the time will come and the Fed should increase interest rates, they will be very reluctant to do so and so inflation will start to accelerate.”

In an audacious raid Friday, al-Qaeda terrorists managed to slip past White House security and seize President Obama's teleprompter. Their demands were released in a grainy video, which apparently showed the president's teleprompter, bound and blindfolded but  unharmed, while heavily armed masked men stood behind it, quoting from the Qur'an. The content of their demands is not being released.

President Obama, visibly shaken, attempted to address the White House press corps on his own. "Words, uh, um, I, uh, heh-heh, well..."
