6 Dealerships are essentially small(ish) businesses.  Someone should check the ones not closed - it could be that they also have a preponderance of anti-Obama donors as well.  Could be that almost no car dealers would donate to Obama, because he is an-anti car lefty.

I've actually started to run the #s on the "remaining open" list up against opensecrets.org.

So far, for every 15 dealers (15/page), there are roughly two (2!) dealers who donated in the 08 cycle w/a 50/50 split Rep/Dem.... so either dealers as a whole took the 08 cycle off, or????

As I have to work, it'll take me some time to go thru this, so perhaps it's time for an army of morons to collect all the data...

Of course, the real insight will be once the data for both dealer sets is collected, "bang" the #s for those communities w/both closed & open...

There is simply no way, statistically, that it would be 789 dealers with none donating to Obama. It just isn't. Dems hate big business, yet big business donates heavily Dem. Ditto hedge fund managers, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies. It's likely that most dealers aren't political, so they didn't donate at all. But it is just statistically impossible that in a country where donations and votes are roughly split 50-50 that only the "bad" 50% gets shafted. How many minority owned Chrysler dealers were closed? If they donated, how did they donate? This could be very interesting for Chrysler (and exciting as we go into the GM bankruptcy!).

I wondered about this, too.  Fewer promotional materials and demonstrator cars, greater economy of scale for the remaining dealers (less overhead), who can then charge less for the cars, and sell more of them--that's the best I could come up with.  Immediate impact on the manufacturer:  smaller sales incentives to the dealers.  Of course, if the cars were popular, no incentive necessary.

Thanks for all your hard work on this.  But more than "fun facts" we need hard data, reviewed by professional statisticians to prove a difference between to the two groups, i.e., "closed" vs "safe" groups.  Anecdotes are not evidence.  Foregone conclusions based on faulty data are useless except as propaganda.  If the Obama administration was stupid enough to close dealerships based on political contributions Democrats will be first in line to run him out of DC on a rail.

Well, considering that I work for a group that develops statistical analysis, and am trained in classical statistical analysis, I'll go out on a short limb as a professional.

I'm concerned that you have not availed yourself of the available data - it's very easy to find, and the political donation websites seem to be above reproach.  Do you have some insight that would counter this?

I post light-hearted here often - but what I posted is factual data, not anecdote, and the results can be duplicated by any who wish.

There are several working on this, and it will get published - and fully ignored.  So why do it?  Because it's there.

Understand the significance of your claim.  Since approx 50% of the analyzed "closed" stores donated exclusively to Republicans, if the "safe" stores were only 0.1% Republican it would sure be a statistical anomaly, agreed?  Did you apply the same criteria to both groups?  What statistical test did you apply?

Your foregone conclusion was that the Obama administration closed "Republican" dealerships. 

To the point of my accessing the available data:  Doug Ross, Ace of Spades, Jim Hoft, and the likes of you have accused the President of corruption.  It is YOUR responsibility to prove your point, not mine to disprove it.  

Clearly, based on the "evidence" supplied by you, Doug, Gateway and Ace, you have failed miserably to prove your case, to this point.  The traditional approach to scholarship is to assemble the data first, then reach a conclusion.
