Jeneane Garofalo Explains Tea Parties = Racist Claim

Apparently she saw a sign using Gary Coleman's 70's catchphrase, "Whatchyooo talkin' about Willis?"

The catchphrase, of course, was used to express profound skepticism about Willis' harebrained schemes, deceits, and self-serving illogic. In other words, it makes perfect sense for an opponent of Obama to ask the same question of him -- no hidden racist motive required to make sense of it.

But apparently even referencing another black person when discussing The One is racist. Because, like, he's different or something, I guess, and talking about other black people lowers him to "their" level? Or something?

Not sure.

In related news, Tea Partiers stand accused of slurring Obama as a 90 year old white woman by demanding to know "Where's the beef?"

Incidentally, the conservatives who bought tickets to her show didn't actually heckle. Or at least they seem not to have. Sigh.

This guy says she started that show by announcing, "If there's any tea-baggers here, let me say 'Welcome.' And, as always, 'White Power.'"

I remember back when I was stupid enough to read Sullivan, he was going on about how brilliant Obama was and how we were going to have this wonderful conversation about race and all that shite. Problem is, there is a VERY good reason people don't talk about race. It is a very good way to get yourself in trouble. I told him in e-mail that I was certain that Obama would actually set race relations back a long way. I am still pretty sure I am right.

27 I caught most of the impromptu interview with Garofalo and argument was basically that if one person carried a sign at a tea party that could possibly be construed as racist, then that made the entire movement racist. Her other argument was that because tea partes hadn't protested deficits under Bush, it could only be because they were racists.

Sex involves allowing yourself to feel pleasure, and in fact, lose yourself in it.

Jeneane has somehow permanently severed the nerve bundles responsible for allowing oneself to enjoy anything in life. Maybe it was some sort of childhood accident. Maybe it was a tragic mishap during a body-piercing. Who knows.

It does not surprise me that she dislikes sex, because it is hard to be such a crusty, jaded, and permanently-superior individual, yet allow yourself to enjoy something as simple and powerful as sex. And that isn't even touching on the notion that certain aspects involve surrendering to the fact that someone else can do something for you in a way that you cannot do better yourself.

I can guarantee, though...no matter how much she dislikes sex, it surely pales in comparison to how little the other party is enjoying themselves.

52 Garofalo reminds me mightily of a person I knew in high school -- a thin, nervous, chain-smoking girl who became a lesbian more out of an activist impulse than any honest attraction towards other females. (And her girlfriend beat up on her, once bad enough to put her in the emergency room with a broken jaw.) She always smelled of cigarette smoke and some heavy fragrance -- the smell of feminist rage, I always thought.

I've never much liked Garofalo anyway. Her comedy is too angry to be funny, her serious stuff is too shrill, and I just dislike her personality too much to buy her as a love-interest in a romantic comedy. As she's gotten older, her desperation is showing more and more: the tats, the bleached hair, the hipster glasses, the strenuous attempts to stay relevant with the youth audience. She and Madonna have a lot in common (including a generalzed lack of talent that for some reason didn't preclude success in the entertainment biz).
