Nancy Pelosi on 60 Votes: "Now We Can Get Things Done Without Explaining Process"

I think she means "explaining anything to the American people at all," but that's my own personal take-away.

Very exciting, very exciting for the American people, because now we can get things done without explaining process," Pelosi told CNN's Candy Crowley.

Compromisin' and bipartisanship are hard.

What sorts of things will Granny Rictus McBotoxImplants get done without having to explain herself? Well, I fear cap-and-trade is very much back on the table. And worse than ever.

Dick Morris thinks Obama's already planted the seeds of his own demise. But seeds take time to grow.

So if voters differ so fundamentally with the president on the very essence of his program, why do they accord him high ratings? They are like the recently married bride who took her vows 100 days ago. It would be a disaster for her life if she decides that she really doesn’t like her husband. But she keeps noticing things about him that she can’t stand. It will be a while before she walks out the door or even comes to terms with her own doubts, but it is probably inevitable that she will.

For Americans to conclude that they disapprove of their president in the midst of an earth-shaking crisis is very difficult. But as Obama’s daily line moves from “I inherited this mess” to “There are faint signs of light,” the clock starts ticking. If there is no recovery for the next six months — and I don’t think there will be — Obama will inevitably become part of the problem, not part of the solution.

And then will come his heavy lifting. He has yet to raise taxes, regiment healthcare or provide amnesty for illegal immigrants. He hasn’t closed down the car companies he now runs and he has not yet forced a 50 percent hike in utility bills with his cap-and-trade legislation. These are all the goodies he has in store for us all.

Obama’s very activism these days arrogates to himself the blame for the success or failure of his policies. Their outcome will determine his outcome, and there is no way it will be positive.

...

So Mr. Obama should enjoy his poll numbers while he may.

We are in for a bad two years -- at least. We can hope that the public will finally react badly to these ruinous liberal insanities, but that's about the limits of our political clout at the moment.

And bear in mind: Even if we take back Congress, we can't just overturn these poisonous laws. The Democrats will have the power of filibuster -- and can stop us from overturning laws with only 40 Senate votes.

The Democrats may or may not be in the process of slitting their own throats. If they are, they're like suicide bombers, and will be taking a lot of Americans with them on their way to political heaven.

And in the near-term: Only 23% self-identify as Republicans, a Pew poll says.

In more than 7,000 interviews conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2009, just 23 percent of voters self-identify as members of the Grand Old Party. That's down from 30 percent as recently as 2004, and the trend shows no signs of slowing.

In the first four months of the year, Pew researchers found the number of self-identified Republicans dropping from 25 percent in January to just 22 percent in April.

The good news is that our losses are largely going to the "independent" category, which I assume means they still lean conservative, but are dissatisfied with the party due to a variety of factors -- too conservative, not conservative enough, incompetent and corrupt. Take your pick.

A total of 35 percent of voters call themselves Democrats, up just two points from 2004. In the past four months, Democratic identification has actually dropped four points, to 33 percent, while those who call themselves independents has risen to 39 percent.

That could explain Rasussen's finding that the GOP actually leads on the congressional generic ballot 41-38, leading for only the second time in five years. More people tend to embrace the Republican/conservative idea of governance than are willing to embrace the actual Republican Party.

Obama's judicial picks are going to be woeful. He won't even have to appoint stealth-liberals who've taken some pains to obscure their strong ideological tendencies. He can just appoint out-and-proud liberals -- even left-liberals -- and the GOP can't say boo about it.

7 Everyone calm down, yeah it's going to be inconvenient for a few months but I have confidence in Americans that care about our Country, what goes around comes around conservatives out number the dorkbats and all of this is waking the sleepers that never cared about politics. The tea parties are a prime example of this, almost 1 million folks were involved. Dems are suicide bombers of the USA now and we will win, we might even have a surge of our own like Iraq if nothing else works! Hahahah

8 I have self-identified as an independent ever since George I broke his no-new-taxes pledge. Independent yes. Vote for a democrat? Hell no.

Come to think of it, I'm suprised such a large percentage still identify themselves as Republican. I mean, it's kind of like identifying yourself as a clueless dork with bad acne.

I noticed a new ad campaign characterizing the Cap & Trade scam as beneficial for jobs, union/industry/construction jobs, in particular.

That's the Democrats roll: they now frame everything they do as 1) good for the economy, and 2) good for national security.

They'll pass illegal immigration amnesty, 'free' health care, and all their phony-baloney green legislation by telling the American people the laws will be good for the economy and good for national security.

10 This really is bad, isn't it?

Everything we feared is happening.

Consider this:  At the direction of the government, the UAW has majority ownership of Chrysler and partial ownership of GM.

At the direction of the government.

If that's not Marxism, it'll do until something better (or worse) comes along.

The media, arm in arm with the Left (including the administration) is gleefully proclaiming the end of the GOP and/or conservatism.

It's really happening.  And there's nothing we can do about it.

I have things to do this afternoon, I can't start drinking yet.

"Explaining process?" Explaining process to whom? One would assume that regardless of whether a congresscritter is a D or an R they know the process for how things get done. Heck, School House Rock made sure all of us that were young in the 70s know how a bill should become a law.

But, bills don't become laws that way anymore, do they? No, they get approved and then go back to committee where the approved bill is larded up with stuff that wasn't explicitly voted on. And, no one bothers to read the bills anymore. And the lobbyists are in Congress now, and if they aren't in Congress then they are sleeping with or married someone who is.

It isn't so much a process that won't need to be explained. Rather, it is the effort expended at swaying an R vote to the D side that won't need to happen.

13 It's not the end up conservatism.  Maybe the end of the Republican party as we know it, but even that is probably not true.  The pendulum will swing back to the right, or at least back to the center.  And I suspect B-O is going to make that happen way quicker than I ever expected.

Oh, and as long as there are a few Republicans in Congress when Obama's, Reid's, and Pelosi's policies fail, they'll still blame the Republicans.

25 As far as this party identification thing goes, I, too am disappointed with the Republicans and more likely than ever before not to identify myself as one of them.

But here's the thing: that doesn't mean I would ever consider voting for a Democrat.  Isn't it possible that the ID percentage is low partially because some of us want the Republicans to start acting more conservative?  I'm thrilled to be a Reagan Republican or even a Palin Republican, but a McCain Republican?  Never again.

Ace, very optimistic. Two years is just a start. Quick, name all the government programs and departments that have been done away with since 1980. The shit that is going to come down now will likely, no, certainly, never be fixed. Its too late. Its a damn shame to see a perfectly good country go straight into the crapper. When a near majority of people pay no taxes, and 61% of the people say they are just jim dandy with Obama so far, its time to think about where you might want to spend the rest of your life, other than in a socialist country. And just wait until we see what taxes are going to materialize in the next few years.

Exacta-mundo!  Why do you think all these lib pols and celebs keep telling us that we can only succeed by ignoring conservatives?  Because they want us to beat them in elections?  No, it's because they know that this country is at rock-bottom fundamentally conservative, and if they didn't have control of the media, most libs couldn't get elected dogcatcher.

So we need to get control of the media, or at least find a way around the lib-filter and allow our attractive conservatives like Palin to speak out in their own true voice.  The time is right for us to come out and make the case that more and more Americans are coming to suspect is true - the media is corrupt and dishonest, and disdains American values, just like Barack Obama does.

Also, it was much worse after Watergate for the GOP, and in a few short years people woke up and kicked the libtards to the corner.

People need to be reminded why the nanny-state doesn't work. Why high taxes are pointless, and why unchecked government spending is bad. People forgot about 9/11 already, so we can't expect people to remember what Carter was like.

WE need to take back our party and our movement, and we need to do it at the state level first!!!!! It starts with:

LIMITED GOVERNMENT
STATES RIGHTS
LIFE, LIBERTY & PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS FOR ALL
STRONG NATIONAL DEFENSE
LOW TAXATION
FREE MARKET CAPITALISM

73 I agree with Morris about the polling numbers, to whatever extent they are valid or true. Add to that the "I'm not a racist!" effect - the anti-Bradley effect that got him elected in the first place - and you've got a recipe for a very nasty backlash. Whatever President Obama's best efforts are (and each time his numbers drop he goes on a PR campaign to boost them) the polling keeps getting weaker on the guy every week.

I posted this early this morning but I think it needs posted again.

This is a story from the BBC Night News about how Obama, the EPA, and some Congressmen are actively recruiting environmental activists to help push through cap and trade.

They aren't only at the enviro. convention, they are speaking ('on behalf of Obama'), giving lectures, and teaching such things as civil disobedience, resisting arrest, etc.

One of the activists even talks about how great it is to finnally have support from the White House.

77 I'm kind of surprised more senators don't jump ship.  Let's face it, they probably should all be Democrats.  I don't know that any of them are interested in small government principles.  All they see is all the money they've gotten to spend so far and no one saying boo about it.  And those up thread who have pointed out that government programs don't get disbanded, I think they've got the right of it.  Government programs are forever, like herpes.

As an aside, I'm going to laugh my ass off when Dems run a challenger against Spectre in the primary.

80 We are simply not capable of self-governance anymore.

I strongly disagree.  The Obamabots I know that won't bend in the slightest amount don't get their news from the big 4 networks.

Obama supporters that do get their news from the big 4 networks waver greatly.  Since the election they have learned a great deal in regards to Obama's social positions that were hardly covered in the Presidential debates.  The Bush White House took every attempt to give Obama all the ammo he needed to hammer away on the economy.  This is all the debates talked about.  It's just about all the big 4 networks talked about as well.  The economy was everything and Bush had to keep on giving it legs because he bought the insane debt from the investment banks.

McCain didn't have the broadcast outlet to talk about social policy at all.  The one and only good venue was the Saddleback event.  Obama bombed this performance big time.

I know social policy may not be the best subject for morons, but positions like opposing partial birth abortion, criticizing the jurisprudence of Roe and Doe and advocating their reversal, as well as supporting abortion regulation that is effective at reducing the number of abortions such as waiting periods, the option for taxpayer funded ultrasounds, and "informed consent" are winning positions.

Take Obama and his supporters to their weak points.  Going at them on their strong side puts them on the footing they're prepared to address.

As I have been saying for weeks we need to crash the economy. It is the only way that we can fight back against these scumbags. Don't think of them as fellow Americans they are stinking traitors.

First stop going out to eat. Stay home, have friends over. Next don't make any big purchases at all if you can help it. Next use cash, if you have money in one of the Government controled banks pull it out and put it in a local bank. Use your cash to buy as much as you can. This will help small business owners keep things off the books.

Go Gault if you can. If you can lay people off from your business try and lay off people who are Democrats. If you work for a larger company, start setting up Democrat workers under you to be layed off if you can. Make them suffer for picking Obama.

Yes there is.  Politics is always local.  You have to connect the falling leaves to the trees they shed them.  The Obamabots did this with an incredible primary season that skyrocketed Obama with the army he needed to reach the people all over the country.  Blue State Digital was there to be the technocratic message machine.

Remember the Milt Rosenberg shows in October 2008?  Caller after caller reciting rapid response alerts from Team Obama smearing Daniel Kurtz and David Fredosso.  This was a huge loss for the truth, but a huge gain for Obama.  All he had to do was say jump and his followers asked how high.

Simple messages are better.  Not too simple though.  Obama bad won't work.  Obama's appointments are largely made up of the same Wall Streeters he decries will work.

Overall we are in for very tough times.  Cap and Trade may cause food shortages.  WHy you ask. Well the cost of energy will put many farmers out of business.   They can not afford to run tractors when the cost of fuel doubles.
Farming when I was a kid was maybe a square mile of land and you can support your family.  Today you need to farm 10 to 14 square miles to make enough profit to support the family.  Less farmers and increase cost.  PRice of Wheat has been around $3 - 5 a bushel since the 60's.  We have an increase in cost lately but not enough if fuel used to farm doubles.  ALso the tax per cow means many farmers will get rid of cattle so we can see a shortage in meat.  Goverment taxing a hundred or more dollars per cow takes away the profit margin the farmers may have for having cattle graze their land. Maybe they will have a lose.

THis is just cap and trade one aspect of how bad it can get.  No drilling in the US to use our own energy. And Obama more than likely will support a $1 tax by the UN for each gallon of gas we buy. And he will add another 1.20 per gallon carbon tax on top of that.   Cost of moving goods across this country will cause many trucking companies to give up and close thier doors.

The cause and effect is never looked at that the policies being demanded by democrats and Obama will weaken the US and the only place they will cut our budget is the Defense department which weakens us even more.

There is no quick fix. We have to take over the local Republican committees. Too often they are run by liberals that will support Moderates over Conservatives because they claim that is the only way they can win.

Republicans had better watch out or they will be history. A third party looks better every day.  I am in Washington state and I see no way to get conservatives to be allowed to talk and express thier ideas.

We could certainly use a little purity when it comes to passing massively expensive legislation. The stakes have suddenly been raised exponentially.

It's funny to me to hear that the GOP has drifted to the right. Especially when I hear that from somebody who supports things like "climate change", a notion that would have had you laughed out of a bar forty years ago.

The good thing about true conservatism is that, yeah, we'll listen to your pet theory, but if it doesn't ring quite true, you'll be told in the nicest way possible to pound sand. We're efficient like that. Ideas that don't work in the real world get easily dismissed, as they should.

The entire political spectrum in America has drifted towards the left, aided and abetted by a media that gives a voice to people who are intellectually tone deaf.

If you adhere to principles that don't change, you're not the one doing the moving.

Morons with college-age children ought to start splainin' to them what Obama's agenda means.

I reminded my son, now a junior, that he will graduate with about $20K in student loans that he will have to repay.  With luck he could do so in five years or less.

Then I told him he will spend the rest of his life paying  several hundred thousands of extra taxes, just to cover the interest on the debt Obama is handing to his generation.

Then I told him that the principal on the outstanding national debt and "unfunded liabilities"  is so high that it will NEVER be paid off, unless we suffer through ruinous runaway inflation as Weimar Germany did.

Then i showed him a stamp I've had since I was a kid, a postmarked Ten Billion Mark stamp from said Weimar Germany.   I explained the concept of "worthless money" to him.

Then I told him how the ensuing political and economic chaos helped Hitler to rise to power, and how and why Naziism was so attractive to many Germans.

Did he "get it"?

I don't know.  But if millions of parents started knocking sense into their kids' heads they might start talking among themselves about where this Unicorn Rider is taking them.

@10: "It's really happening.  And there's nothing we can do about it."

It depends on what you value: the political process, the nation, or liberty.  If you value the political process more than, then yes, there is nothing you can do.  If you value the nation or liberty more than the political process, then there are a number of options.  Unpleasant ones, yes, but options nevertheless.

I suspect that most people these days value the political process more, or at least accept it as supreme.   The Founding Fathers and the generation that fought the Civil War would have been blowing heads off long before this, I'd wager.

So, let me see if I understand this correctly.  Yesterday and today, the Demos passed a massive spending bill on a "reconciliation" basis, requiring only 51 senators to vote on it, but if the Repubs take control of the senate only 41 Demos can filibuster the senate's actions.  This is what pains me so much about the Repubs.  They think they are gentlemen, and that the Demos will be the same.   The Demos think they are at war, and intend to take no prisoners.

I vote the Repubs treat the Demos just exactly as they have been treated.  When they eventually take over, and they will, the house should impeach the Won for deliberately turning the Constitution upside down.  That would make two Demos in a row to be impeached.

Exactly right. At least as it applies to me because I no longer declare myself a GOP Republican, but rather an Independent who is very conservative. On most issues I am more conservative than the GOP.

On some issues I part ways. 1. On illegal immigration, I want those who hire the illegals to be hounded as much as the illegals are being hounded. Until they are hounded as much, I consider the illegals to be scapegoated and I don't like it. In fact I despise it. 2. The Bush-Paulson surrender on the socialization of the investments industry - and the massive resulting deficits - were the last straw. The lack of transparency on TARP funds, and the inexcusable failure to tie the money to precisely the intended purposes was disgraceful; and it allowed Paulson and others to immediately begin shifting and throwing the money around to other purposes that they preferred, that was odds even to the horrifying use it was originally intended. What a mess.

This is pissing into the wind. No one will do anything about it. except spout off, . Its the job of government to fuck the people good...its the job of Ace to bristle, whine about it and move on to the next comment . You can kite this methodology into a lifetime of inaction. Nothing gets done here but political masturbation. ...even at that: the government wants you gone Ace...opposition jerk-off or not. They will get their way......because all we do is blog, post and talk
