| Italian Cruise Ship Attacked by Pirates, Fights them OffSix men in a small, white Zodiac-type boat approached the Msc Melody at about 1730 GMT Saturday and opened fire with automatic weapons, Msc Cruises director Domenico Pellegrino said. They retreated after the security officers returned fire and sprayed them with water hoses. The ship continued its journey with its windows darkened.Pistols for "emergencies". Who'da thunk? How ya like them apples? Comments1
Pirates don't like apples so much.

We need to find a modern-day Pappy Boyington. You know, have him recruit some volatile and 'highly experienced' inner-city criminals and have them provide
some "security." Pay them by the number of carcases. They presumably would have the firearms skills, and I don't think they would be afraid of the International Criminal Court. Cargo lines don't really care if some poor Philipino or Indonesian crew spend a few months as hostages - just the cost of doing bidness. If a cruise line loses a ship to pirates, their reputation is trashed and they are done. Also, I cruise ship might have a crew of over a thousand - adding an 8 man security squad is a rounding error (anyway, you can also use them as bouncers in the on-board nightclubs). A cargo ship might have a crew of 30 - adding that sqquad would be a 25% increase.

See? When you show greater strength than aggressors, they suddenly aren't quite so aggressive, now are they? It's amazing that our culture has sunk so far that something so obvious to anyone of average intelligence has to be stated. Common sense is just not that common. The vast prosperity of the modern age has left us with way too much time on our hands, and the irony-laden popular entertainment that fills our idle hours has created a majority of idiots who don't understand that irony is irony because it doesn't normally happen. Nobody tells the stories of the majority who break under torture. Where is the entertainment value there? Instead we know of the the men who have the strength and courage to resist, and the idiots extend that to mean that "torture steels the resolve of the tortured." Nobody tells the stories of the vast collaboration through fear throughout Nazi-occupied Europe or Japanese-occupied Asia. Instead, we hear of tiny resistance movements full of brave men and women. But the idiots just know that, "The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers." Oderint dum metuant. They aren't going to not hate us. Teach them to fear. Posted by: MikeO at April 26, 2009 01:04 PM (hz67i) 22

Common knowledge is just so bourgeois don't you know? You are right. 100% We have lost much of our cultural wisdom over the last fifty years. Up is down and left is right. I'm not saying we haven't progressed in many important ways, we have. But people now feel that even those timeless, good things in no need of alteration must be thrown aside. Why? Simply because they are old....it's the end of history, they say. This ignorance and willfulness is, of course, a temporary luxury, and like all things it will pass away. It's amazing that our culture has sunk so far that something so obvious to anyone of average intelligence has to be stated. Common sense is just not that common. Mikeo - This is a very interesting but big subject, but of course you are right. We are suffering from the effects of decades of Soviet Communist propoganda and demoralization. It has changed the way many of us think. Liberal thinking patterns are very rigid (and very gutless) and seek to appease and apologize because they lack faith and confidence in any sort of rational, principled way. Since they don't have faith in our country, our system and our history, the lack any moral compass, and don't believe anything is worth dying for. They are capable of the most tortured rationalizations and self deception. They believe they are so intellectually superior they don't need received knowledge, everyone should question everything. There are no absoloutes, everything is morrallly relative, etc. ad nausem. Liberalism is a mental disorder, really. Posted by: 7HEAVENS at April 26, 2009 01:22 PM (8Fc21) 31

But if the pirates had been able to get their hands on those Italians' guns, they'd have been able to do some real damage! Yeah. And we'd be able to keep Italian guns out of the hands of Italians (or Israeli security companies for that matter) if we'd just close that gunshow loophole. BATFE says that 90% of these Italian guns used by Italians come from the US. Posted by: Eric Holder (pardon you?) at April 26, 2009 01:29 PM (hz67i) 32
This ignorance and willfulness is, of course, a temporary luxury, and like all things it will pass away. honest cloud - I'd love to believe that but I think it is just as likely that it will get much worse, European style. As Camille Paglia once wrote about a French Liberal: The Great Liberal French Fog Machine insists on taking a suicidal road because it does not know any better. We have been there, to our own heart of darkness and found it totally bankrupt and false. Somehow we have forgotten all that and will have to relearn it. But this is a hellova time to be learning these lessons the hard way all over again. And it'll take a long time, I am afraid. They have too much power right now and they intend to use it. Many otherwise reasonable people I know treat Gramsci or Alinsky as though it would take a conspiracy-theorist kook to expect their grand plans to make any headway against our freedom-based society. These plans don't need to lead people anywhere--they just need to thwart passing the lessons of history to next generations. Most punks running-around in their CheErnesto/Mao/Hammer & Sickle t-shirts haven't the first clue about the communism's bodycount in the 20th century. So, these idiots have no problem concluding that we must be racists for not getting on-board with giving collectivism another chance. Posted by: MikeO at April 26, 2009 01:41 PM (hz67i) 42

It's just a matter of time before the Somalies escalate their armament in order to "teach us a lesson." I hope brainiacs who are the national leaders of the civilized world are ready for the next move on our part. Some stuff has to be set up in advace. If we go into reaction mode, we're not going to like where it leads. Hopefully someone has sent them a letter letting them know that as soon as they escalate, a multinational force is going to wail on their asses. But if there is not agreement among several key countries in advance, you can forget about it. We'll see if Obama the International Diplomat can set it up. Most punks running-around in their CheErnesto/Mao/Hammer & Sickle t-shirts haven't the first clue about the communism's bodycount in the 20th century. MikeO Back from dog walking, yeah it's true but there is so much more to the story. See youtube of Bezmanov on Brainwashing a Nation. A former KGB agent speaks about how the biggest mission of the KGB was to demoralize, confuse, and ultimately brainwash whole nations and peoples (us) that they were: predatory powerful monsters who colonized the world and sucked it dry for our own greedy lifestyles, unjust, corrupt, tyrannical, racist, sexist, and anything else that was negative. They used the "human condition" of unrest by claiming it came from an oppressive system. An important element of this was eliminating dicriminatory thinking patterns that allow us to make good judgements and arrive at truthful, real conclusions by confusing discrimination against minorities with being discrimnating, i.e., being able to rationally distinguish between best vs. lesser vs. least and make good choices that make sense. Also the sexual revoloution that was a part of Communist propoganda from the 30's onward and spread like wildfire in the 60's, and weakened the power of the Christian Church all over this country. Long Story but very interesting. Posted by: 7HEAVENS at April 26, 2009 05:28 PM (gYU8Z) 98

I am completely with you. My point was that people are hesitant to believe that the enemies of The West could have accomplished these things because it sounds like something that could work only if the bad guys could coordinate in some grand conspiracy that had many things that had to go right for their side. It wasn't like that. All they had to do was to attack the intergenerational transfer of wisdom, and the seven deadly sins took care of the rest. Wood-eating mold doesn't need to coordinate to topple a house. Posted by: MikeO at April 26, 2009 05:56 PM (hz67i) 104
grand conspiracy that had many things that had to go right for their side. Yeah MikeO - They called them the Red Termites, very fitting. I think their biggest weapon lately is as you say. No one believes they could have been so successful in this when they were so unsucessful at evrything else. I always thought that modern art was one of these tools in that: by refusing to use human forms, it erased what used to be the glorification of courage, human acheivement, sacrafice and love. I can remember statements by the artists to that effect. When I see David I am uplifted, when I see every downtown modern "art" that looks like a pile of dogshit I am not. Art was one form of the intergenerational transfer of wisdom. I have played pop music all my life and as much as I love pop music, it has not uplifted us either. Long story Posted by: 7HEAVENS at April 26, 2009 06:10 PM (gYU8Z) 105

A quote from over at Rightwingnews:
"t's so hip that school kids in Albany, N.Y., coined a term for it: "Baracking." And it doesn't stop there. Those in the know at Albany High greet each other by saying: "What's up, my Obama?" and they respond to a sneeze with "Barack you." Misbehavior is peer-corrected with the admonition, "Barack's in the White House," which translates, "Show some respect." I'd just LUV for these little misanthropes to have a group run in with a band of Somali pirates at sea. Yeah, "Barak YOU, assholes! All you Hobo hunters should go on a cruise. You could pretend to be a disabled cruise ship...wait for the prates...and viola! have'em hanging from the yardarms and others being keel hauled, and other being lashed while tied to the mast. Fun!

After watching South Park tonight, I fear the Somali pirates may get a new leader. Pirate Admiral Eric Cartman is obviously a tactical genius with a sharp eye for building esprit de corps.

Maybe its time to scrape the rust off some old Q-ships and get'em decked out with some nice fake manifests of a tempting cargo.

Modern pirates are pussies. Hang a couple 'scarecrows' on the mast labeled 'Last Somali Pirate we encountered' and they won't come within range of an average first day army rifleman trainee. All boats are equipped with flares, one shot into their 'scow' and they would be too busy jumping in the sea to attack the ship.

There is no "911" on the high seas. Self defense is the only option. Interesting though that the Italians actually fought these thugs off.

pretend to be a disabled cruise ship...wait for the pirates...and viola! There's been coupla master's theses & such on the concept that what set 17th Cent. buccaneers apart from society wasn't so much the "sense of freedom" but their taste for buggery. These pirates are teen-aged boys, they tell us. And there's no law against buggery in international waters. No "controlling legal authority," at least. So if you accosted would-be child moleseters, see, your NAMBLA rejects, and "offered" them a, well, a Q-ship to, well, cruise in... And so long as they didn't actually kill any pirates, just promised to put them ashore (so we wouldn't have them applying for licenses in Iowa)... Word would get around pretty fast, I'm a-reckonin', matey. Arrgh. Posted by: comatus at April 27, 2009 02:00 PM (zFDqJ) 121
