Rice Approved Waterboarding; McCain Lashes Obama for "Witch Hunt" on OLC Lawyers Who Approved Interrogations

The recap from Hot Air continues. Again, apologies, but these seem big, and I have to note them, even if it's embarrassing to keep linking Hot Air.

Rice approved the waterboarding. Which yes, makes it hard for Bush to claim he didn't know, but I doubt he'd claim that anyway.

Then again, when a vindictive winner's-justice radical regime is coming after you for jail time, who knows what a man might say.

McCain attacks.

Shepard Smith Yells Yet Again: We are America! We do not fucking torture!" Yes, he dropped the f-bomb. Followed by "I don't care if it works or not!"

We are America. We are not going to be watching Shep Smith much longer. And I don't care if 80 year old biddies think he's cute or not.

Thanks to EdwardR.

Bush should address the country and tell his side of things before this nonsense goes any further. I know it's unprecedented, but so fucking what. As Obama keeps reminding us, these are challenging times and we must act swiftly and boldly.

Together we can, motherfucker. Together we can.

3 Obama's at top speed now. He's been activated for 100 days and he's made hash of virtually everything he's touched. I knew he'd go fast but not this fast. His masters know he's got just one shot and they're making it count.

Interestingly, I think the speed works for him and not against him.  He's simply too quick and crazy to catch. The average guy doesn't get a chance to catch his breath before Obama fucks something else up.

By the way, Obama is playing McCain and the (R)'s like fine-tuned pianos, just like he's playing Netanyahu.

Obama is keeping the Republicans busy with this torture nonsense while he, Reid, and Pelosi ram through their radical leftwing agenda.

I don't mean to trivialize your suggestion, but unfortunately you've implanted an image of a joint press conference with Cheney and Obama and I can't let it go. Obama left a pile of bloody pulp as Cheney casually zips up his fly.

And Fox likes to make a big deal out of Graham being a military Jag like he really knew shit from shoe-polish. While on the trials commission he tried to give them access to classified info that even U.S. military personnel do not get.

I cut out the part of the U.S. code that described the limitation on classified info for U.S. personnel on trial and sent it to him and asked why he wanted to give terrorists more access that our own military got. Got the standard BS politician mail.

D-ling, I respectfully disagree -- the worst thing Bush could do right now is speak up; this is a big smoke screen, imho, for something else.  Just like the DHS report and its timing vis a vis the tea events -- a big game of freaking chicken and a smoke screen.  I think the folks in charge have messed up a bit more than they would like anyone to believe -- take your pick as to where: national security, the economy, both...and this latest kerfluffle bears the fine, signature mark of an Axelrod production.

Something has gone awry in the new Camelot methinks, and they are trying really hard to cover it up -- if Bush spoke up now he'd be 1)playing into their hands by helping them to destroy him (the moonbat goons would be given marching orders so quick it would make us all dizzy);2)playing into their game by helping them get a diversion they so desperately seem to need (because they seem to be moving desperately quick, no?)

Later on, if something else starts to look better, or this starts to get really bad, Barry will trot out to declare this as the needless distraction that it is, and thus dismiss the media's attention from the matter, and onto some other important Sparkly.

There will be no prosecutions. Pelosi doesn't want to get called as a witness. But there will be endless investigations. Political hay will be made. And if it distracts people from either real problems, or underhanded dealing by the government, so much the better...

Sure, you'll get a quick hit for the yellow journalism and reports on rates of cannibalism, but at the end of the day, there's fewer TVs. And people.

If, on the other hand, you meant "We are America! We do not fucking torture!" in the sense that waterboarding isn't torture, then good on ya'. I don't have much faith that's what you meant.

Reid is opposed to Pelosi:

“I think it would very unwise from my perspective to start having commissions, boards, tribunals until we find out what the facts are,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), reiterating his support for the Senate Intelligence Committee to investigate the interrogations.

Reid’s statement puts him at odds with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has called for a formal “truth commission” to probe into the interrogations and legal justifications for tactics like water boarding.

First, that would be like burning down your house so your mother wouldn't notice that you haven't vacuumed since her last visit, and second, it overlooks the simpler explanation: Obama is a clueless dick who has no control over anything. Yes. Obama says to his pawns, "Do whatever you have to do to keep me popular while I try and ram my vision through," and then he practices his teleprompter sessions.

The public is getting antsy, world leaders are stomping all over him, and this nation's trendlines are looking bleak. Team Obama must, absolutely must, change the newscycle and the critical focus. The Iraq war and the Left's lying memes leftover from the past 7+ years are the Democrat bread and butter. Torture results in permanent scarring both physical and emotional. If Shep doesn’t know the difference, it is because he chooses not to.

Hey Joan, which would you rather?  A scary jerk  who will do the dirty work to protect you, or a murderous thug who would kill you and all of yours in front of your eyes beforehand?

Don't see much difference from the "muderous thug" and the "scary jerk", both cut from the same cloth.

89 Joan, it seems as if you're highly evolved, while I'm a simple life form simply interested in survival.

Your position is an easy one to take in drawing rooms and debating clubs. I'd bet that you'll feel differently when the jihadis are beating down your door.

It's important to examine the fact pattern here and judge it in context.

The sky is not falling. And we could all use a really good lace wig.

90 #81-I was only teasing Joseph! Mostly ragging on Gibby and poking fun at Auburn. When you go to Alabama, then there's always a rivalry with Auburn, sometimes friendly, sometimes not. It goes back and forth, mostly just because of Football. When you come from Bama and go to Bear Bryant University, it's ALL about Football! I am a country girl, grew up on the Coosa River over in Alabama, and grew up with horses, cows, pigs, chickens, and a huge garden all my life. I was gigging frogs by the time I was 7, and shooting water moccasins by 10. Just an old redneck girl. Good luck at school. These days I think the  tech schools are where it is at. You learn something that you might can get a job from. We are graduating too many young people that can't get a job in what they went to school forthese days, as it is.

#90- Di, I'm an SEC guy, and I know about the rivalry...I have a couple of cousins, brother and sister, that went to Auburn and Alabama, respectively.  Their family Christmas get-togethers can be tough.

And Shep went to Ole Miss, so maybe I can just be a good Bulldog and hate him for that.

Ah Joan, so...the scary jerk who would try to save you and the murderous thug who would try to kill you are both one in the same.

In one sense, you are correct -- both have the ability to resort to violence and not playing by the rules of polite society (they don't really fit in at the country club mixers for charity or the book club teas, do they?  how awful!)

But after that point, you are very wrong -- the scary jerk has sworn to defend you -- by whatever means possible.  He does the things that your happy, shiney, gentle...civilized....people won't do that keep you happy shineys all snug and secure.  So secure that you don't even get a whiff of the wolf at the door, thus feeling oh so comfortable twisting up your nose at the scary jerk for being innappropriate mixer material.  He has to be able and willing to do nasty stuff because you certainly wouldn't --not even if your childrens' lives depended upon it.  Wetting yourself and begging for mercy doesn't work all the time -- sorry to bust that bubble there sunshine.

The murderous thug has no rules -- so he doesn't give a rat's behind about protecting the shiney happy people; in fact, they are his favorite target.  No limit, no exceptions made for gender, age, skin color, religion of choice, education level, cuteness -- he considers the entire herd a prime target.  The wetting yourself, the begging for mercy, the concessions to him only spur him on to target you more, because, the murderous thug holds you in no regard (unlike the jerk, who regards/loves either himself or you or society or the rules enough to defend you, even though he perhaps hates the way you act at the same) and a little secret: the more you show your weakness the more you cause him to disdain and dispise you (there is no hate there, because you don't even warrant that sort of strong emotion from the thug...which means sunshine, that no matter what you do...the thug will never love you.  Sorry about that.)

I don't think you understand why I do not approve of the likes of Colonel Jessup who was a fictional character btw. In the movie, Colonel Jessup sanctioned the beating of an enlisted man for disciplinary purposes, he did this in a way in which he could plausibly deny his actions so others (of much lower rank) would take the fall if found out. These actions taken by the character Col Jessup were not only ruthless and unlawful, but they were also cowardly and dishonorable and not becoming of an officer.

We honor soldiers who may indeed be called upon to perform acts of brutality, but we expect them to act within the law (the uniform code of military justice) and to be follow lawful and only lawful orders. I do not want to live under military rule, where might makes right. Our military is tasked to defend our freedom.

95   94 Hey, Joan, I believe my ex is single right now, would like me to introduce you two? He might help you have a clearer vision on how you feel about all of this. He's great at that.   I am sorry you were abused by your ex, but that does not condone unlawful conduct by the military, the character Col Jessup was no hero, his character was that of coward. Btw I'm not against waterboarding by the Bush administration, they had to do something short of torture to gain information from detainees, they sought legal counsel to find the best course of action. Waterboarding was not legal deemed torture, I'm ok with that.
