| CIA Confirms: Waterboarding Stopped Planned Al Qaeda Attack on Los AngelesQuick, let's prosecute the agents that saved America from another attack. The Central Intelligence Agency told CNSNews.com today that it stands by the assertion made in a May 30, 2005 Justice Department memo that the use of “enhanced techniques” of interrogation on al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM) -- including the use of waterboarding -- caused KSM to reveal information that allowed the U.S. government to thwart a planned attack on Los Angeles.Oh, wait, he won't be prosecuting the agents themselves. Just the men who authorized the actions that prevented an Al Qaeda attack. Comments1
Better to lose a skyscraper full of people than torture a single one of Gaia's creatures.

John Ryan, I put this in the other thread, but perhaps you can glean some information from it, so here you go:
84 After a brief perusal of the memos, what is clear is that they were not used to justify torture, but rather, to find ways of interrogating recalcitrant detainees without resorting to torture. There was clearly a great deal of effort put into making sure that there was no torture. The problem is of course, torture is pretty much in the eye of the beholder. When the definition is composed of subjective terms, you are going to get some subjective answers as to what does and does not constitute torture. As to prosecutions, it's highly unlikely there will be any. And Barry knows that. Because it would have to take place in open court. And I just don't think San Fran Nan wants to sit in the docket and give her reasons for not objecting when the program was explained in great detail to her. On the other hand, investigations? Oh, there will be. And in this case, the investigation IS the punishment. They'll use them both as a political bludgeon, and to make the individuals involved miserable. Pour encourages les autres. Posted by: XBradTC at April 21, 2009 01:50 PM (7cVz2) 55
Dick Cheney is right. Release all the memos. Hell, most of the damage is already done. Al-qaeda and every other foreign dirtbag organization has our techniques down cold anyway. Let everything out. Let's actually see what the CIA did right to stop terrorism, not just the material for the Gitmo leg of Obambi's worldwide apologize to shit-heads tour. I am not so sure: WASHINGTON — President Obama traveled to the headquarters of the CIA Monday to vow continued support for the agency despite weeks of revelations about the physical abuse and mental manipulation of terrorist suspects in its secret prisons. Obama, greeted by raucous cheers in his first visit to the spy agency, thanked employees for their sacrifices and gave no hint of wavering from his pledge to oppose prosecutions of CIA workers who used interrogation methods that the president's own advisers have called torture. Washington Post? A memo is a memo. Posted by: CIA interrogator aka War Criminal at April 21, 2009 02:12 PM (JefgB) 92
Hey Trolls, from the Cuffy's WaPo link:
Specifically, interrogation with enhanced techniques "led to the discovery of a KSM plot, the 'Second Wave,' 'to use East Asian operatives to crash a hijacked airliner into' a building in Los Angeles." KSM later acknowledged before a military commission at Guantanamo Bay that the target was the Library Tower, the tallest building on the West Coast. The memo explains that "information obtained from KSM also led to the capture of Riduan bin Isomuddin, better known as Hambali, and the discovery of the Guraba Cell, a 17-member Jemmah Islamiyah cell tasked with executing the 'Second Wave.' " In other words, without enhanced interrogations, there could be a hole in the ground in Los Angeles to match the one in New York. Most of us here aren't fans of the WaPo - but they seem to consider themselves "serious journalists" and dismissing the plot as a bad movie script is exactly the "failure of imagination" that allowed the first attack to happen. Posted by: Jean at April 21, 2009 02:14 PM (L64A6) 93

On the subject of blaming people for attacks that occurred on one's watch, I seem to recall insinuations from Bush and Cheney that 9/11 was all Clinton's fault. Yeah, you guys "recall" a lot of imaginary bullshit. If you had to rely solely on events as they actually happened, it would be terribly difficult to maintain your silly-assed, incredibly dangerous wordview. But I'm sure that as I was writing this retort you were busy posting a slew of links backing up your recollections of Bush/Cheney blaming Clinton for 9/11. Boy is my face gonna be red. Hey dumbfuck aka "honest cloud": Those methods proved to be very successful. Just a few examples of who got what they deserved: Al-Qaeda scumbag Khalid Shaikh Mohammed: They dunked his smelly ass 183 times after his capture. They got lots of information out of him. "Zayn Abidin Muhammed Hussein abu Zubaida, the first high-ranking al-Qaeda member captured after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, broke in less than a minute after he was subjected to the technique and began providing interrogators with information that led to the disruption of several planned attacks, said John Kiriakou, who served as a CIA interrogator in Pakistan. The waterboarding of Abu Zubaydah got him to talk in less than 35 seconds. The technique, which critics say is torture, probably disrupted “dozens” of planned al-Qaida attacks, said John Kiriakou, a leader of the team that captured Zubaydah, a major al-Qaida figure." I can’t seem to muster up a whole lot of angst over the CIA’s dunking of those slimy mutherfuckers. Until they were caught, they were in the process of killing as many infidels as possible for “Allah”. I can hardly wait to witness the meltdown you’ll have along with the rest of the leftwing moonbat brigade, when you finally realize that Obama won’t prosecute anyone, because he can’t. Aside from the fact that several members of the Democratic Party knew about the interrogation methods, You liberal pansies are so wrapped around the axle over the poor, hapless muslim terrorists. There’s a few things you overlooked: What got them a trip to GITMO and the knowlege of terrorist plots endangering thousands of people. I get your mindset, though: Leaving them to commit acts of terrorism is okay, using methods to extract that information, is “immoral”. That’s a good example of “moral relativism”.

The question is not whether torturing a person prevents attacks; the question is what price Americans are willing to pay not to be known as a country that tortures people. We don't allow police to torture suspects in spite of the certainty that that policy will lead to some very bad people being released and that they will continue their life of crime and Americans will be harmed or killed. We do this because the risk of this scenario is preferable to allowing police to torture criminal suspects. Torturing people is abhorrent behavior, as Americans came to believe upon hearing of American soldiers being tortured by various enemies. Would Japan have been justified torturing American soldiers in order to prevent American attacks upon Japanese troops or to prevent attacks that would result in the deaths of Japanese civilians? Would the Vietnamese have been justified in torturing American soldiers to prevent attacks upon Viet Cong or upon Vietnamese non-military persons?

154 - Waterboarding is a mock execution. Mock executions are torture. Of course, no one taking the SERE training is ever under the impression that they are actually being drowned. They know that it's a training exercise. They know that those training them will never allow them to die or be seriously or permanently injured; not so those we waterboarded. The effectiveness of the technique depends upon convincing the person being interrogated that we are willing to let him die if he doesn't talk. It is the equivalent of Cong taking American soldiers out and holding a gun to their heads and pulling the trigger. It's torture.

You bring a bunch of examples where innocents, good guys or simple combatants being tortured (or very likely to be tortured). Now why is that? No one here root for torturing this kind of people. I think your lack of morals make it so hard to comprehend the difference between all these kinds of people and islamist terrorists, which is a direct and official policy of the latter to commiting all kinds of attrocities towards innocents, a policy which they put to practice every day and are very proud of it. They are evil (although i guess despite your reference to "bad people" you don't comrhend this concept either). And thus not only there is nothing wrong in harming them, but they actually deserve all they getting (and much more). It's called justice. We all want to hear about your vast combat experience in the military because its clear you're a hardened veteran who has stared death in the face and made life and death decisions and had responsibility for the lives of others.
You are proof that there is life after brain death.

Craig's motto:
Speak incoherently and carry a limp dick.
Ever notice that the same people who say America will not stand for torture kills babies by inserting siccors in their brains and then sucks them out in the partial bith procedure. So my solution is to do to terrorists what the abortion crowd does to babies.
That's so American for the leftwingnuts and something to be proud of. Posted by: Vladmir Putin at April 23, 2009 09:21 PM (0Qynq) 169
