Whatever happened to all the Republican absentees that were supposed to come in?
Oh well, it's not like this would have made a difference. 2010 = last great hope. Posted by: the real joe at April 17, 2009 12:34 PM (6kSof) Posted by: Vic at April 17, 2009 12:35 PM (f6os6) 3
We have to accept that fixing the GOP or replacing it will take time. More than a few months is easy to realize... more than a few years? How many years did the colonists have to suffer under King George?
The GOP is simply the not-democrats party. They are agnostic about guns, spending, immigration, and free speech. Pretty good on defense, and better than the democrats generally, but when some people love what the dems are up to, we need a party that we can love too. I think it's more convenient if we fix the GOP instead of build a new party... but maybe that's just not going to work. A party where social issues are not central... where common defense, basic services, minor spending and regulation let the country do what it wants, and states have lots of latitude to try different ideals... that's the party I'd create. Would Huckabee vote for it? Probably not. Posted by: Dark Halo at April 17, 2009 12:39 PM (8jYMc) 4
Will Steele be replaced now, or do we require another kick in the nuts first?

That was the Saratoga County vote. Tedisco won but not by enough to overcome Murphy's lead. Murphy has led after election night and the absentees. There are conflicting reports as to who has challenged more of the 1,000 outstanding votes but most people seem to think it's Tedisco who has. He'd have to win an awful big majority of those 1,000 or so votes to overcome 264. In a race that's been 50/50 all along, why would he suddenly win almost 2/3 of the remaining ones? Especially if the majority of them are ones he wants excluded. He needs a bigger pool now, not a smaller one. Posted by: DrewM. at April 17, 2009 12:40 PM (hlYel) 8

The GOP is simply the not-democrats party.
It's just the opposite. The Democrats are the party of default. Why not vote for them? is what most people ask. Look at scandals. When a Republican gets caught in a minor scandal, the whole party has to bear the brunt of the criticism. But when a governor of a major state peddles influence, meh, it's just him. Or the whole party is infested with tax cheats? Meh, just individuals. The Democratic party has for a long time been the party of default. They can hold conflicting views and there's no problem. They can have a national anti-gun platform and still elect people explicitly on a pro-gun stance. They're incoherent and always have been, back to the time when they were the party of segregationists and the civil rights movement. Posted by: AmishDude at April 17, 2009 12:56 PM (T0NGe) 12
Well, as a point of order, it might be helpful for campaigns to run parallel absentee campaigns like they're supposed to.

We have a numbers problem. There are more people that want the government to take care of them than there are those who want to earn their way. Simple as that. Look at birth rates, and you can see the writing is on the wall. The libs breed much better and need more help than conservatives. They will outnumber conservatives for generations, if not forever, and they certainly won't be voting for any candidate that will reduce benefits. Maybe I'm just jaded after living in LA for too long. It did my heart some good to see those protests, though. Unfortunately, it was counterbalanced by the open mockage on so-called news networks was a dismal display of how the left sees the world. Can't wait to see Megyn Kelly's milk teets.

Hey, six months ago the Dems pulled over 60% of vote in this district. Now they got 51%. I'll take that in six months. VA and NJ governor's races are in November. Win them both. Go get involved in the VA governor's race, the NJ governor's race, and Pat Toomey's campaign to unseat Specter.

While the GOP hasn't been anything to write home about lately, there might be a way to blame the voters. There has to be a way to focus the Tea Party anger onto deadbeat voters. Why should anyone receiving EITC, WIC, or any other welfare assistance have a vote? Posted by: MikeO at April 17, 2009 01:07 PM (hz67i) 19

_____________ What are you talking about? Birth rates favor conservatives (especially the very religious conservatives) by huge margins. Progressive couples (gay or straight) adopting one baby when they're 42 do not compete at all with Mr. and Mrs. Baptist in Alabamba who've got a whole set of boys named after the Gospels and three girls named after the second season cast of Charlie's Angels. Why do you think the Dems are so eager to win over the Hispanic vote? Because Catholics have lots of kids and secular liberals have two at the most. You know, the Earth Mother must not be overburdened with parasitic humanity. The Dems need the Hispanic vote to stay effective in the next few decades. We can't let them have it. That doesn't mean amnesty, but we've got to do outreach and find common ground. This is a group that's heavily socially conservative, comes here in order to work hard and get ahead, and has plenty of experience with the horrors of unchecked government. So, if you'll pardon my language, why the fuck are the Democrats winning them over? Posted by: Britt at April 17, 2009 01:10 PM (9yC4C) 21

Don't take it so hard.
Only five months ago, Obama and Gillibrand (who held the House seat before leap-frogging Caroline into the Senate) carried this district with 62+% of the vote. Now it's a dead heat. It's too bad this election couldn't have waited another couple of months, but that's life. After a bit more of Obama damning America to the world, eviscerating our defense, and kissing the buttocks of our sworn enemies like Iran, Castro, and Chavez, we would likely have carried the day. It bodes well, though, for 2010 - presuming of course the leftists leave enough of the country to save. Posted by: Adjoran at April 17, 2009 01:24 PM (n5JQT) 30
Say what you want to about Steele, until the Repubs can be positively differentiated from the Dems, like Drew said, "long time in the desert." Gator, All jokes aside, it is a perfectly valid and reasonable point, though. I think the key is to keep the argument from veering-off into "racism" territory. Simplicity itself: Why should anybody who is essentially a ward of the state have a vote? (lefty answer comes back about Jim Crow poll taxes or disparate impact) Are you saying that only minorities are so useless as to become dependent parasites? Somewhat related..if only in the quality of scum bag politicians.
"If you have an assault weapon to protect your house, you're crazy," Rendell said this morning on CNBC, advocating for the return of a ban on assault weapons. "They jam and they're not very effective. You should have a revolver or something like that." "These weapons have one purpose: to kill and to maim," "We have the right to ban certain types of weapons; that doesn't infringe on our basic rights to bear arms." Well fat eddie, would you like to take your chances breaking into my home and hoping my ar jams? Weapons that kill and maim...that's so right wing we need weapons that hand out food stamps and hugs. If the dems are really stupid enough to push this you were going to need bigger venues for protesters. Posted by: Unamerican hate mongering evil libertarian at April 17, 2009 01:34 PM (DnuJz) 37
Race means nothing to me. It does, however, mean everything to the Democrat party. By the way, in my family unit there are 4 Latinos, 4 black people, and a bunch of crackers. I only hate the crackers. What does that make me? My point is we've opened our borders to the poorest people on the continent who will take advantage of our free stuff (that isn't free). If I lived in Tiajuana, I'd do the same thing. I don't blame the people, just the government that allowed this to happen. Our government has failed us, and they continue to fail us in many ways. Like a public education system that refuses to instill responsibility and a sense of history into our youngest citizens. By the way, if you proposed taking the vote away from anyone who was essentially a ward of the state, you would be considered a vile and evil racist. Truth is hard sometimes, but we should start dealing with it. Posted by: gator at April 17, 2009 01:34 PM (UIfCq) Posted by: wiserbud at April 17, 2009 01:35 PM (wWwJR) 39

Methinks you discount voter fraud and ACORN too much. I wish I could remember where I read it so I could provide the backup, but there was a recent article on voter fraud, which concluded that until the ballot box is straightened up, Repubs don't stand a chance. The article mentioned the majority of states have dem election officials and lots of DMVs offer mail-order ballots more or less. I also heard a conservative female atty call Rush's show last November to talk about the shenanigans that went on in her voting district in Pgh -- BIG-TIME DEM STRONGHOLD - and she was incredulous at what these "staffers" did with unused ballots at closing time. If the country's split, you've got to think there's something funny going on. Doesn't Washington state or Oregon allow everyone to vote by mail? Who do you think is counting those votes? The libs keep aborting themselves out of existence, but I can't wait that long. As for the Messicans, you're not going to do anything about them voting (illegally, of course) the next time out, so the Repubs better clue them in that the very thing they're coming here for -- financial gain -- is turning into $hit under Zero/Democrat rule. Other than that, all I can think of is to throw huge parties in ghettos and barrios with free 40s on election day -- all you can drink.

I have come to the conclusion that there isn’t much conservatives can do. The Republican Party has NOT learned its lesson and is still barking up the same tree that has seen loss after loss.
On top of that the socialists have promised AND ARE DELIVERING bread and circuses to the masses who continue to vote them in year after year with absolutely no regard for honesty or integrity. There is a reason commiecrats continue to be elected even after being convicted of felonies.
We are at the point now where there are only two ways to stop it. Do we dislike class warfare because the other side uses it against us so effectively? Or do we dislike it because it's wrong? 1. Right or wrong, they opened the door to class warfare. That's the battlefield that *they* chose. We either retreat or respond in kind. 2. A ward of the state is not a free and whole citizen. It only made things worse. It's not just the 2nd Amendment and the NFA, but it does figure into it. The collectivists have been shitting all over The Constitution for a long time, but it's always been there. With it, when TOTUS and his minions overreach, The Constitution gives us something to which we can strive to return after applying the countrywide enema that's way past due. Without it, the game becomes mere survival. If even as few as two percent of the population is committed to go all the way in defense of The Constitution, then that coming overreach is going to be the end of the left in this country for a long, long time. The only way we will ever get the real Constitution back is to get 60 conservatives in the Senate and an unbroken string of conservative presidents for about 16 years (in other words an anti-Roosevelt). We haven’t had 60 Republicans in the Senate in over a hundred years, much less 60 conservatives.

Vic, I agree that the scenario you describe is not going to happen. That DHS report was over-the-top crazy. The fact that they refuse to walk it back is even crazier. They are working to mobilize the 52 against the recalcitrants who stubbornly insist that this is a nation of laws. The porkulus earmarks are going to enrich the hell out of organizations that have been waiting decades to play king-for-a-day but never had the chance before because they're batshit. They're going to buy billboards and airtime and open outreach centers all over the country. They're going to recruit the out-of-work and bus them to demonstrations. They're going to try to organize every non-union workplace in the country. In short, they will do as TOTUS demanded while on the campaign trail. They will get in our faces. This will not end well. Posted by: MikeO at April 17, 2009 03:21 PM (hz67i) 63
I don't disagree that blaming ACORN for every loss in a closely contested race is reflexive. However, the deliberate disenfranchisement of deployed military voters in this race is shameful. Because the ballots were mailed overseas only thirty days in advance, they virtually guaranteed that military voters would not have adequate time to get their ballots back. The tactic worked; only 200 of 1000 ballots were returned in time to be counted. The members of the election board who voted against mailing the ballots earlier? The two Democrats. 'Nuff said.

The thing that pisses me off so much is that there was supposed to be one place where men could live free. If you want to live in a socialist state you have your choice of many different ones. Cuba is tropical, France is cultured, Canada is like Diet America, etc.
Why can't the fucking snakes leave the free one place where we can be free? Why do they have to consume and destroy every last bit of freedom? Rhetorical question really. Freedom works, freedom works better then control. It's why North Korea has a DMZ, it's why East Berlin built a wall. If there is any place not socialist, then all the subjects of the socialist state will see what freedom can offer them, and then they won't want socialism. It's why the Soviet Union never stopped pushing into other countries. You cannot allow other options to exist, because if they do then the people will realize that the worker's paradise isn't all it's cracked up to be.
