Why They Hate Sarah Palin So Much

I think this is overdetermined, personally. A smart friend of mine -- a Democrat who supports Palin -- boils it down to "Professional women hate her because, as a group, they hate themselves and hate their lives and hate their husbands, and resent this working-class upstart for having the life (and husband) they wish they did." Clarification: He was speaking of liberal-ish, feminist ball-buster type women, of course. Not all professional women. I really should have made that clear, but I didn't, so now professional women are defending themselves in the comments. I apologize -- I screwed up. I knew what I meant in my own mind but didn't write it properly. Obviously, professional women who like Palin are not so gripped with envy.

A bit reductivist, but I think that does play into it too.

VanDerLeun thinks it's because she's beautiful, which is part of it, certainly. (Note: His piece has the url fragment "best_palin_anal," which I suppose is short for "best palin analysis," but I am suspicious he's tailored it for the the old Google. He's crafty, isn't he?)

He links this provocative piece, one section of which is pure feminist flamebait nirvana, which I'll quote too.

In playing to the weak, wallflower women who don’t want to distinguish themselves in any way, feminism has become an advocacy group for those who lack appeal. With time, it has become an advocacy group for those women who work at not having any appeal. And I’m not talking sex appeal. I mean, being ready to engage in dialogues instead of monologues; talking to people in some way other than as a cross stepmother; motivating your man to come home instead of go out somewhere else, when he’s in the mood for some sex; acting like that’s important to you. We’ve seen the incremental rise of a counterculture of females who are in a great hurry not to have any appeal to anyone else, or to be beholden to anyone else — except other females who don’t have any appeal to anyone else and aren’t beholden to anyone else. They’re a grown-up version of those chubby goth chicks you knew in high school who didn’t know how to behave in public, didn’t care to learn, were horribly out of shape, and kept to their own at all times.
Most of our female politicians seem to think that’s their constituency. This is a sensitive paradigm, and the prospect of shifting it makes a lot of people uncomfortable.

He lists a lot of other reasons they hate Palin, but those aren't as flame-baity fun. (Good stuff, though: Read it.)

Palin's beauty comes with other baggage, too: Because she's such an attractive figure, she's a natural target for tabloid coverage, which is only exacerbated by the fact that the media is determined to tabloidize her in order to make her unacceptable as a leader. That link notes that Levi Johnson, who turns out to be exactly the sort of trailer trash the left claimed he was, is going on Tyra Banks to dish on Palin and to talk about what he and Bristol knew about birth control.

Is that fair? Well, I can't help but think that Levi Johnson has been courted particularly ferociously not just because Palin is an interesting, ratings-generating figure, but because the media wants to make her into a Jerry Springer buffoon.

Where is their interest in, say, allegations that Joe Biden's daughter was a cokehead? Surely we can learn all sorts of cautionary tales about drug use from that story, just the same as we can learn about birth control and youthful sex from Levi Johnson.

But the media doesn't pursue it. Partly because Joe Biden is a goofy old bastard, and his daughter, most likey, is no head-turner (I confess I don't know; I'm going by the averages), but largely because the media wishes to protect Joe Biden (and therefore Obama) from any hint of scandal or "messy family lives" (as Sarah Palin's just-less-than-picture-perfect family life was often referred to).

They don't want to tabloidize him, and so they are not knocking on doors and burning up the phone lines to get Joe Biden's daughter's boyfriends on TV.

The media has their narrative. Sarah Palin, low-class frost-neck chillbilly, and Joe Biden, serious, accomplished man deserving of respect and privacy. The fact that Slow Joe claims a lower-class upbringing himself, and has been caught lying multiple times about his woeful academic record, doesn't change that.

He's a Democrat, and therefore deserving of praise. Palin's a Republican and deserving of nothing but contempt and hatred.

This is the main reason I so loathe the media's claims that Michelle Obama is one classy, nicely-put-together Helen-of-Troy-level beauty. It's not that silly claim in and of itself -- it's because I know the flip-side of such coverage. While Michelle Obama is hailed as incredibly beautiful, Sarah Palin is denigrated as an igloo-trailer beauty queen, and to the extent her beauty is mentioned at all, it is cast in nastily disrespectful terms, as if she's a porn princess and the only reason men like her is because she's a bit of tasty muffin.

If Michelle Obama's so hot, where is the "analysis" suggesting she appeals to men, as Sarah Palin apparently does, primarily due to her suitability as a masturbatory aid?

I've heard that said a dozen times said of Sarah Palin -- not by the MSM, per se, but by the likes of Bill Maher and a dozen other nasty little men they have on their supposed "news analysis" programs to say the things they want said but know they can't say themselves.

The flip-side of Michelle Obama adulation is sheer viciousness against Sarah Palin (and before her, the Bush Twins, who were tagged as sluttish hell-raisers because they ordered margaritas at a Mexican restaurant while a year underage). We didn't hear much about Chelsea Clinton's wild nights (and I'm pretty sure she had them); just what a wonderful, awesome, smart kid she was.

And the Bush Twins? A couple of loose-assed lushes who might or might not be relaxing with inebriants stronger than liquor. (Wink, wink.)

Meanwhile Joe Biden's daughter is alleged to have done coke. No media interest in this story whatsoever.

The media wishes to punish Republicans for daring to hold office, and they know damn well the worst way to hurt someone is to attack his or her family. And so they do.

By the Way: I am tipped to something I didn't want to discuss, because I'm not really down with blog-fights. AllahPundit doesn't like the Worf type insults directed at Michelle Obama, and has warned, vaguely, that indulging in such could result in a ban.

I get where he's coming from: My attacks on Michelle Obama are ugly stuff. Furthermore, the left is always eager to spin any attack on the Obamas as racist, so I get why someone would want to keep a weather eye on such remarks.

My defense as to why I indulge in it is simple: The leftist media angers me so much I want to engage in push-back and, to the extent I can, tear Barack Obama's wife into shreds with the same ugly savagery the MSM shreds Sarah Palin and Bush's daughters.

Now, the best way of handling this, which is probably how Allah prefers handling it, is to shame the MSM into stopping such personal attacks on a politician, and especially stop personal attacks on his or her family.

But I know, as I'm sure Allah does, that shaming these people will not work. They are shameless. They don't feel guilty about these ugly assaults; they feel pride, convinced they are doing the right thing.

So the "shame them" approach is definitely the higher-minded and more moral approach. It has one deficiency: It is utterly futile.

Now, my attacks on Michelle Obama aren't really going to change the world much, either. But at least they are cathartic.

If you're going to go after Bristol Palin, I can't stop you. I can, however, pour the same venom on Michelle "Predator Queen" Obama. Tit for tat.

The Chicago Way-- You put one of mine in the "Fashion Faux-Pas" file, I put one of yours in the Romulan High Command.

Piling On? Eh, fuck it. I'm still pissed off about Palin and the Bush girls.

Could have saved yourself a lot of time and just written this. Seriously, Palin didn't get any worse treatment than any other Republican in the presidential sweepstakes last time. She got more of it because she was in the finals but all Republicans got abused for the crime of being a Republican.

10 Women who are threatened by beautiful, smart and/or successful women usually have really low self-esteem.

And I never got why Hillary was to be so admired when her entire career was achieved by riding on her husband's coattails and yet Palin is just an ignorant wacko even though she actually worked for everything she has. The double standard is staggering.

11 Just look at Palin's approval numbers in Alaska prior to being VP nomination and post VP nomination.

Her "really disapprove" numbers prior to that was 5%; after that, 20% - it was an immediate jump.

Over what? Opposing a Democrat.

I think they resent that she achieved so much without the advantages of family wealth or political connections or an elite education or benefits of affirmative action programs... and she appears to have succeeded in achieving these things without sacrificing a good home life and marriage.

I'm not sure how widespread the disdain is for Sarah Palin amongst "professional women." I suspect that small business owners, entrepreneurs, local politicians, and activists probably respect her. It's the women who decided to buy into the culture of affirmative action and victimology that resent her, irrespective of their professional achievements.

Of course, that makes me a freak since, like Sarah, I have pursued my dreams in the workplace and achieved some cool things (although nothing like Sarah has) while having a happy marriage for 24 years.

I am continually sickened by the so-called "feminists" who still attack her and every word out of her mouth as if she's some sort of hypocrite, when they are the hypocrites.   Hello, a woman who wasn't feminist (in the real sense, not the bullshit liberal sense) wouldn't be holding such a position of power!  If one wants to celebrate women's equality and achievements, shouldn't Palin be held up as a role model?  But I agree the hatred is at least partially due to her looks; the women who go overboard into the modern "feminist" movement seem to be the unpopular kids in school who turn their anger outward at the "patriarchy" and "privilege" and all that fatuous crap and who now see her as the cool, smart, athletic, popular girl they loved to rip apart out of earshot.

Spot on, Ace.

My dad and I were trying to explain just this matter to my fiancee last Christmas (she does not follow U.S. politics too closely).  We hit on most of these points, but one explanation for the Palinophobia I should have emphasized that I did not is --trite as it sounds-- that Sarah and Todd Palin genuinely love and like each other.  Gov. Palin does not stick with hubby because she's using him to climb a political or corporate ladder, or as some convenient prop for campaigns, but because she enjoys the life they have created together and see each other as equals in raising children, growing the family business, and even in their respective separate careers.

They probably also hate that she gave her firstborn up to the evil U.S. military machine.

I don't understand the hate. I've had arguments with my friends and my sisters about why they despise her so much and all I get back is regurgitated wrong facts about her. But I do know that the hate is seriously at the visceral level; there is absolutely no reasoning with these women about Sarah Palin.

It drives me bonkers because Sarah Palin is exactly the type of woman we women should admire. She is attractive, smart, successful, a mother who is attempting to balance family needs with a career. She got where she is herself and she has the courage of her convictions. She believes totally in what she says and what she does.

While I wish she would be fairly considered as a candidate for President I believe that there is no way she will be able to succeed. The media have made it their quest to tear her down at every possible turn in every possible horrible way they can. The politicians in Alaska who don't like her smell blood in the water and are circling for the kill. And, funded by DNC money, every Joe and Jane Alaskan who has a petty grievance with her will attempt to bring her down.

So, I'm looking to the future and Piper's candidacy. I hope I live long enough to see it.

What jumped out at me was that real street-cred comes from humble beginnings. Most politicians claim that and while Palin isn't exactly living a trailer park life, she's definitely WAY outside the Washington bubble.

And yet she's attacked for being the same person most politicians claim they were: hard working, salt-of-the-earth types.

51 Ace - I understood and agreed with what you were saying prior to the clarification but thank you for that.

I point blank refuse to call myself a feminist because modern "feminism" is about nothing more than stripping women of power and turning women back into Victorian handmaiden, all swooning because some beastly man gave them the vapors.  That's not power.  That's weakness.  I loathe women who think that they cannot have both strength and femininity, who believe that a true Womyn is one who rejects and mocks men, who truly seem to think that making oneself actively unattractive is making some kind of political statement.  It's not.  It's pathetic and childish.

I've always known why they hate Palin so very very much.  She proves the idiocy of their game.

My attacks on Michelle Obama are ugly stuff.

I'll admit, I don't like the attacks (not that my opinion matters btw) but I do understand what you're doing.  The fact that it's ugly and brutal doesn't mean it's wrong.  Sometimes the mirror needs to be held up to show precisely what's being done.  Hell, I would be deeply concerned if you didn't think it was ugly.  But I didn't think that was the case.  Besides, the nice thing about being a grown up?  If I don't like it, I don't have to read it.  Easy peasy.

58 ehem... Where to begin?  The left brutalized Palin, much of it on prime time television and virtually every last bit of it was untrue, whether related to her private or her public life.  By the same token, much of the denigration of Princess Glark has been pretty mean, as well.  The hugh difference is that while the media is trying to pass her highness Glark off as this beautiful and fashionable goddess of the world - its not in the least bit true.  By the most generous standards, she is at best plain.  Denigrating the one's wife on the right side with what little attention it gets, may indeed be mean.  It may even be catharic.  But all it really does is nudge the fiction a tiny bit back toward reality. (But there's still a long way to go.)

The feminists have made women miserable by convincing them that they are victims. They are angry and bitter, not the recipe for success, which intensifies the frustration.

I am in areas full of twenty-somethings. who are angry and resentful. They hate men, they don't want kids and sense the yoke of the Patriarchy. The libs have really cheated lots of people with this crapola.

Posted by: billypaintbrush at April 03, 2009 06:38 PM (tuEaI)

60 Good analysis all around. There's also the problem of minorities and women who wander off the plantation. Democrats attack them viciously because they're dangerous.

Palin's accomplishments make her a role model for any woman or girl, or they should. Athlete, outdoorswoman, wife, mother, and self-made government leader--honestly, what more could you ask for in a feminist role model. She does it all, and even though I'm a hetero chick, I love her madly for that. She reminds me of far more accomplished version of myself.

I don't know why more women can't admire her accomplishments, even if they disagree with her policies, a la Camille Paglia.

Posted by: stace at April 03, 2009 06:39 PM (g/wgk)

61 I believe that one reason they hate Sarah Palin so much is that she is authentically, honestly Christian, and that gives them the willies. When she praises the Lord, she does it with conviction. You can hear it in her voice. And there is a tremendous number of people out there, including as we found out a number of the conservative "elite" who think this trait reflects a certain amount of brain damage.

To them, it's one thing to do like Obama and many politicians do, and attend a church and make nice-nice with the Christian folk. But it's another thing entirely to be authentically and unapologetically Christian. It's viewed as a mental disorder.

62 >>>I''ll admit, I don't like the attacks (not that my opinion matters btw) but I do understand what you're doing.

I don't really like it either. Oh, sometimes I'll chuckle at some insult and so pat myself on the back, but as a general rule I'd rather not be in the business of insulting the first lady's looks.

BUT-- what the fuck am I to do when it is being insisted MO is a fucking sex goddess nonpareil?

I don't care about her looks -- I care about the fact that the MSM is being positively orwellian in calling a woman who is, frankly, sub-average in looks (not ugly, but sub-avearge) 'beautiful" and goddess-like every three seconds.

At some point you have to say "Bullshit, stop lying."

63 The woman I know who 'hate' Palin are pretty, but they are snobs, usually academic snobs who went to Chicago, Penn or even UCLA, who look down on her because she went to 2nd tier schools.

But I think a lot of the criticism (at least from women) would disappear if she hired a speech coach to help her tone down her folksy way of talking. The "you betcha's" distract people from the substance of what she has to say.

68 Sarah Palin is a self made woman. Everything she's got she's had to work for. She makes no excuses for who she is. Libs hate her.

Caroline Kennedy is drooling idiot who can't string together 2 words and couldn't qualify to squeegy car windows by an off ramp and is where she is because of her family. Libs love her to death.

Worf is back end of mule ugly and had a job that only existed due to her husband's political influence. And Libs love her too.

69 I don't understand the hate. I've had arguments with my friends and my sisters about why they despise her so much and all I get back is regurgitated wrong facts about her. But I do know that the hate is seriously at the visceral level; there is absolutely no reasoning with these women about Sarah Palin.

Facts don't really have anything to do with it - they loathe Palin for who she is and how she lives her life. The wrong facts/scandals are just something to hang their gut level hate on since they know that according to their own espoused feminist ideals they ought to support her. So it has to be that she is a bad, bad, bad person.

They're afraid of Sarah Palin because she's the epitome of everything the envious lefty bitches never were: smart, pretty, popular, athletic and TOUGH! She did what she did on her own, without help and without whining. None of the bastards, male or female, who rip on Palin would have the guts to say the crap they say about her to her face. The lefties are cowardly bastards who always hide behind anonymous attacks, and I completely despise them.

I'd be proud to shake Palin's hand. I don't know her personally but I know people who do--and they think she's damned impressive. The people giving her those accolades include senior members of the U.S. military. If she runs in 2012 she's got my full support.

Lefties, on the other hand...well, let's just say that if you admit voting for Obama (and I do ask), you'll not be allowed in my house or on my property, I'll not be patronizing your business, you'll not be doing any business with or work for me, and I'll treat you with the complete contempt and disdain you deserve. I've already had the opportunity to stick a few Obamabots in those ways and it's good to watch them suddenly realize that their political actions have personal consequences. To the extent that I can, within the law, I fully intend to make the bastards who elected that lying, jug-eared cretin pay for inflicting him on us.

88 Ace,

1. No apologies needed (I think) re the "professional women" label thingy. I think all/most of us knew what you meant.

2. Like Seattle, I really thank you for providing the occasional catty posts about Michelle O. They are exactly what you said -- cathartic. And damned funny. I re-read the Inauguration Day threads every couple of weeks just to get a good laugh. You and Iowahawk keep my spirits up.

But the fun thing about your blog is that everyone can contribute... whereas we have to just stand in awe of Iowahawk. You're the Rocky Horror Picture Show to Iowahawk's Hirsshorn.

To me the difference between the jokes about Michelle and jokes about Hillary's legs (or Condi's looks, which were much more vicious) is that Michelle is just a figurehead. She's not in an elected office and is not on the public stage for anything other than the circumstances of her marriage. So to me, at least, belittling her looks is no big assault on feminism (the good kind; I will not abdicate feminism to the leftists) or womankind.

3. I'm glad you don't participate in the blog wars. They can be pretty tiresome. And I know you are pals with Allah. But I wonder if he had really thought through his impulse to label jokes about the Klingon on the Wookie (my personal favorite) as closet racism. They simply aren't. What the heck is the relationship between a Wookie and a human being, for pity's sake? THEY'RE IMAGINARY! It's tantamount to being worked up about whether or not Bert and Ernie are teh ghey. Crazy.

And, for the record, there is much less bigotry on AoS than there is on Hot Air... you guys patrol your site much more aggressively. The religious and anti-gay bigotry on Hot Air (and I'm not talking about Allah, here, I mean the posters) is really bad and very embarassing.

Look, it's simpler than all that. I'm a woman, I deal with women all day, and they are just plain STUPID. I'm in constant amazement how stupid they are, how little they know about government, history, world affairs, taxes, the economy, cars, mortagages, interest rates, politics, literature, law, or even their friggin garbage disposal. Recently, at a party I removed an olive pit from the garbage disposal and was hailed as a heroine without par. They listen to entertainment tonight, NPR in the car or FM tunes, watch the cooking channel and read Glamour. They are just plain dumb.

I know there are a few out there that aren't but they are in the sad minority. By the way, I'm talking about metropolitan college educated women.

I had a similar conversation with my (former) best friend during the election. We're both in our mid-20s. She went to Stanford and I went to UCLA, and as everyone knows, both are super liberal colleges. When I asked her why she hated Palin, she gave me basically the same answer the women you talked to did. She said Palin's dangerous and stupid and a hick, etc etc. I tried in vain to defend Palin, saying she was accomplished and smart and the real deal and people like someone they can relate to. I was ignored. My former friend also said she wanted a president smarter than she was because a president should be smart and world opinion is the end all be all of our existence. Well, I hope she's happy with Uhbama and Slow Joe because those two are smarter than 52% of the country.

As to the media calling Michelle the next Jackie Kennedy, I want to strangle every reporter I hear say that. Jackie Kennedy has a zillion times more class as a corpse than Michelle Obama does at all. In the earlier thread with MO and Carla Bruni, that dress MO was wearing was eye poppingly ugly. The woman does NOT make good fashion choices.

it's not crazy. as a blog-proprietor myself, I wrestle with where the line is, and different people can disagree. I have no probem iwth the worf thing, or wookiee thing, but I do get how it can be considered racist, as we're talking about imaginary creatures, yes, but "less evolved" or more animalistic, and that starts to hint at yadda yadda yadda.

There are lines you don't want to cross. Some are blurry. Some times people may say, "Because the line is blurry, I just don't want anything near the line."

The other thing is that when a free-fire zone is declared, there are in fact some people chomping at the bit to actually cross the line and start up with the old, tired, offensive racist jokes, and they take these kinds of attacks on BO or MO as invitations to such. "Friendly crowd." "People who will appreciate this stuff."

And then it gets very hard, not to mention tedious, to explain why a Wookiee joke is okay but a gorilla joke is not.

Lots of good points, and I agree that the Dems feared her, not least for interfering with what they thought would be a cake-walk over McCain, but to put Ace's point that she is envied by professional women in a larger context, I think Liberals hate her because she challenges their stereotypes about Republicans.

The only other vitriol that rises the execrable levels unleashed on Palin (and don't kid yourself--she got it much worse) is usually directed towards minorities, especially blacks, that are Republicans (ask Clarence Thomas).

You'll notice that jokes by Stewart, Maher, et al. rely solely on stereotype for their effect--there is no wit or wordplay, merely ratification of the stereotype.  Liberals cannot adequately defend their beliefs by logic because they rely so much on inherited beliefs about Republicans--their stereotype and the concomitant sense of their own superiority is all they have.

So, when someone comes along to challenge these beliefs, they react most viciously--the very core of their self-identity is being threatened.  As they say, when you start getting flak...you know you're over the target.

105 They tried to make Reagan in to a caricature too. In fact, the Left makes any conservative who threatens them ideologically into a caricature because it makes them feel more sanctimonious.

I think though, that in her case, it is something different than with Reagan or other conservatives.

I'm not quite sure if it a difference of magnitude or kind but whatever it is, it seems to touch a nerve that is buried deep and engenders a response that is visceral and unreasoning to the point of well, dementia.

If you think I overstate my characterization, please take a look at this post in the Women on Faith forum at the Washington Post, especially the replies, and tell me what you think.

On balance, I found it to be rather disturbing and more than a little bit surprising but that may just be a consequence of naïveté on my part, I don't know.  I do know that I have seen more than my share of BDS on display but I always had the feeling that most of it was rather cynicaly manufactured and that very few of those engaging in such posturing sincerely believed their hyperbolic claims.

Clearly, the caricaturing of Palin in the media is just as cynical and transparent as it has ever been with conservatives.  It doesn't surprise me in the least that the usual suspects are doing their best to cultivate their propaganda.  What I find creepy is the previously unsuspected (at least by me) cache of Miracle-Grow that so many women not in the messaging game seem to have been carting around all this time.

108 Allahpundit is a total fucking two-faced pussy.

He wags his finger over the Worf comments and threatens to ban them. He denies allowing Sarah Palin jokes even though archives catch him personally laughing at them himself. Then when he's caught at that finally today threatens to ban anyone making Palin comments after he got caught.

As I said in a previous thread, Allahpundit is just like one of those concentration camp sonderkommando who pushed his fellow Jews into the gas chambers in exchange for better treatment from the SS.

112 allah is not the most important person on Hot Air. MM is. It's her franchise, and she has the most to lose.

That's not denigrating Allah. Just saying, MM is on fox all the time and is a bestselling author. She ranks just a few slots below Coulter and Rush in importance as a communicator for the conservative movement.

Her brand is much more precious than any wookiee joke -- no matter how well-crafted it might be. precious not just to her, but to the party and movement.

So some perspective is needed here.

115 Everybody knows that Christian women are supposed to be meek little doormats for their fat ugly husbands.  They're also supposed to inflict their Church Lady standards on everybody else with a righteous hammer of purse-lipped judgmentalism and enlist the power of the state to suppress the gays, the single mothers, the condom-makers, atheists, people who wear white after Labor Day, etc., etc.  So an attractive, confident, accomplished Christian woman with a handsome, supportive, and obviously happy husband who professes limited-government conservatism and (eek!) actually governs that way DOES NOT COMPUTE.  She does not fit the narrative.

Dagny, as a man I would have been reluctant to put it so bluntly. However, you're right. The number of women I've known in my life who would be capable of holding an impromptu, but educated, discussion on American politics, much less world politics (FORGET economic policy; it's not even on their radar), I can number on the fingers of my hands. I'm in my 50's, with advanced degrees. That I've seen so few is truly sad. It's not that they're incapable; they're just not interested, apparently because "that stuff is somebody else's problem and they'll take care of it for me." I've seen the same attitude toward learning how to change a tire; the mindset seems to be this blissful certainty that someone else will always be there to do that type of thing.

My sister and I got into quite a fight while visiting the old hometown at Christmas time. I knew ahead of time that my sister, who would fit the description of a ball busting liberal woman, who resides in Chicago and has done business with some people in this administration, was an avid back of Obama. I knew this because my mother asked me to keep the peace and not allows national politics to cause any family fights or arguments at Christmas time. Fair enough. I am the reasonable one. I am still a registered Dem but I voted for McCain Palin because of Palin's addition. Also, because Obama's a big faker. Anyway, to make matters short, within 48 hours, my sister demanded to know who I voted for in the election. I told her McCain. She asked why and I told her Obama was not qualified to be a senator, let alone a president and I could never vote for a socialist. Her response? She went off on a 5 minute hate rampage about Sarah Palin. Not about McCain. It was pure PDS. Bottom line? I think that women like my sister hate Gov Palin because she proves that you can have it all and still be successful. My sister went for career over family and when she sees Palin with both, it fills her with rage.

I also think that there is a certain section of the Left that is enraged that she did not abort her last child. Like Andrew Sullivan.

And we don't do our side any favors in viciously attacking Michelle, then complaining when the other side viciously attacks our women. The sexist misogynist component is not helpful. It's fun to vent, but in the end it accomplishes nothing except start an 'arms race' of insults.

All we can do is fact check accusations, and constanly point out the hateful sexist misogyny of Democrats and liberals when it comes to conservative women. True, one cannot shame the shameful, but we must hammer away.

For being lawyers, they were the dumbest women I knew and they were all liberals. I'm glad I quit before the election because I knew they would start hammering on me (since they knew I was a conservative) closer to November. The only exception was the office manager (a very practical and libertarian woman) and she and I are still very good friends to this day.

True, but Michelle Obama is not a politician. She's the president's consort (not counting the TOTUS of course).

I may be being too nuanced here, but as a woman I really make a big distinction between sniping at some woman who is a media darling with no responsibilities over her looks and belittling someone like Hillary over her cankles. There's simply no damage, in my estimation, to the "women's movement" if I choose to make catty remarks about some guy's wife (or a reporter or whatever).

Just my two cents.

138 I think that the attractiveness issue does come into play with Palin, but I think the bigger issue is she so encapsulates the perfect conservative values.  The left wing media knows she will be a force in the future for conservatives, so the more they can attack her now before the next elections, the more likely they can get something to stick.  It is the democrats way to attack, that is their method to succeed sadly.

Ace, I just finished reading "1984" again. When I read the book, I was reminded again of Newspeak, the language the Party imposes on citizens to keep their minds from wandering too far astray. That, in turn reminded me of Groupthink.

The term Groupthink wasn't actually used in "1984" but the idea of it is there. People are pressured to abandon critical thinking and to conform all of their thoughts to the prescribed viewpoints in order to promote group cohesiveness. Depending on the needs of the Party, the prescribed viewpoint may shift without logic or warning. For instance, Oceania may be at war with Eastasia. When the enemy is suddenly changed by the Party from Eastasia to Eurasia, all memory of the previous war with Eastasia is blotted out and all resources are immediately focused on hating Eurasia, which is now defined as "always" having been the enemy.

No logic allowed. No memory allowed. No reasoning allowed. And when you think about it, that's how the Liberals/Socialists/Obamaphiles operate. Whenever the leadership defines something as being true, all of their followers agree to it. It doesn't have to be internally consistent or logical. They can advocate women's rights and tell their followers to ignore the fact that Bill Clinton cheats on his wife and that Ted Kennedy actually let a woman drown under a bridge. They can advocate that women break the glass ceiling, but instruct their followers to hate on Sarah Palin, even though her leadership has inspired many women to believe that they, too, could make it in politics.

Conservatives don't do groupthink. They don't go on Fox and interchangeably spout the same conservative talking points as every other conservative. But Liberals do. They are cookie cutter clones. They don't stray from what their leadership tells them to think. It's comforting, it gives them a group identity, it spares them from having to think on their own, and their leadership assures them that if they subscribe to whatever the groupthink happens to be, they will automatically be better people than the mean, nasty Conservatives who dare to think on their own. And if Obama is successful in shutting down talk radio, Fox News and the conservative internet, groupthink is coming to a neighborhood near you.

Not true.

Besides, this isn't all about the MSM. Some people don't like racist jokes and they won't frequent a site that trafficks in them.

Personally I don't want to run a site that has a free-fire zone policy for racist jokes. It makes me feel dirty and low and cheap. And that feeling is widely shared. Not unanimously, but widely.

There are always rules for any social institution. Even a blog-site. Some parties you go to, you're formal. Others you're casual. Others you don't even have to wear a covering over your genitals.

Not everything is allowed here. I banned some guy for calling a woman "cunt" twice in rapid succession.

There is this libertarian conceit that a lot of people have, which I, admittedly, used to subscribe to when I was a commenter getting grief for edgy comments, but as the guy who's running the site, I'm less taken with the extreme libertarian let-everyone-figure-it-out posiition.

People don't like spam and lots of other stuff, incuding vulgarity. (Obviously allowed here, mostly, but not allowed elsewhere.) People go to social gatherings that more or less hit their personal comfort zone -- and I'm sorry, old-school racist nonsense is outside of most people's comfort zones by this time, so anyone pressing for the full-libertarian model has to take that into account. Most people don't want to see it and don't want to frequent a site that has a lot of that.

"

I love being a woman mostly because I love men and I get to talk to them and...well at least one. I've got a couple of advanced degrees but that is definately not where I learned not to be stupid. Like said above, most women are not engaged.

The other day as I dropped my littlest one off at preschool, a woman runs up and tells me her car won't start. I asked about her battery--no clue. Went over and it was the battery. I didn't have cables because I had a new car and they were in the other one. We began asking around for cables. I was mostly met with blank stares until finally a guy in an itty-bitty car had some. He didn't want to use his car to jump her van because of the size differential (groan) so I hooked it up to mine. Her battery was 4 years old so I told her to drive to Sears, do not turn off the engine till she got there and have a new battery popped in. "Oh, no. I'm going home to call my husband." And she did. Same woman, college, job, urban, burberry clad, also said to me, "Palin, Reeeeaaaalllly?"

>..but as a general rule I'd rather not be in the business of insulting the first lady's looks.
I will be happy to do that for you!

A caller to Levin yesterday talked about how annoyed she is about the MSM's attention to Michelle's arms. That it is a result of diverting attention away from her stomach and hips. Funny, because it's true.
MO writes that the path she chose by attending Princeton would likely lead to her ‘further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant.’
Michele Obama clearly has a chip on her shoulder.
Not only does she see separate black and white societies in America, but she elevates black over white in her world.
Michelle Obama does not look into a crowd of Obama supporters and see Americans. She sees black people and white people eternally conflicted with one another. Michelle Obama’s intellectually refined racism should give all Americans pause for deep concern.
Now maybe she’s changed, but she sure sounds like someone with an axe to grind with America. Will the press let Michelle get a free pass over her obviously racist comment about American whites? I am sure that it will. But it shouldn’t.
There is only one reason anyone could like this racist or Him© and that is to be a racist! She is as bad off in the brain as her towel head wanna be husband.

Alaska is an oil rich state that literally pays it's citizens. That's not Palin's fault but she benefits from it mightely.

But you sort of make my point for me. Yea, Michigan is a basket case state, primarily because of the auto industry, yet Granholm was mentioned as a possible Sect'y of Commerce. The msm adores her and she is constantly on the tube doing interviews. She and Palin are very similar in their profiles with the single biggest difference between their politics. If Palin was a liberal, everything else being the same, she would be an msm superstar.

168 I have rather less to lose reputation-wise than Michelle Malkin. You're comparing apples and oranges.

Well, obviously you know him better than I do, so I'll take your word for it. But I've been reading AP's stuff for a long time, since way before HotAir came around, and I liked him better back when he was a pissy, snarky, more-intelligent version of the gent we see on HotAir these days. Just my two sheckels.

One of the reasons I post here rather than elsewhere is that this community is full of smart, funny, well-informed people who aren't afraid to be silly or vulgar. If anything smells worse in my nose than P.C., it's self-enforced P.C. You run pretty light on the ban-hammer, for example -- how long did you tolerate cedarford before you gave him the boot? I view that as a positive: both that you tolerated him; and that you finally had enough and gave him the boot.

Sigh. You know what I'd like? Another zombie thread.

My best friend is a brother, and I'm of the cracker persuasion.  We give each other hell about race, stereotyping and calling each other all sorts of things.  Nothing is off limits except that nasty n-bomb.  Having grown up around mostly black people, I have more respect than that.  Brother has made me laugh so hard making fun of every race, especially crackery, that I couldn't catch my breath.
Point being, race is just another way people are funny.  I have great times with people that don't take themselves too seriously and know that race is an artificial distinction.  The most racist people I've met, usually libs that treat minorities as children, are so race conscious, it borders on psychotic.

I've said this before on my blog, but here goes again:

'they' hate Palin because Sarah has it all- family, career, happiness- AND SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO SELL OUT HER WOMB TO DO IT.

The liberal women and feminists who aborted themselves of their children over and over to pursue... whatever, and are now childless in their 40s and 50s, probably hate themselves for all they gave up in the pursuit of politically correct goals. Sarah Palin beat them all, and gets to have a wonderful life with a husband and 5 kids to boot!

This drives the feminists crazy. And they can't admit they made the wrong choice, cuz that's bad for The Movement- might lose elections. So they externalize, they project- and  hate on Sarah instead.

Haven't seen mentioned the liberal love of being bound by convention.

For all their honorifics about how free they are, they are, by far, some of the most rigid idiots I have ever come across.

Palin exemplifies freedom and a FUCK YOU attitude that the liberal statists, statists of the mind and otherwise, absolutely hate.

If she can be free, why can't they? Well, they are totally shitfaced frightened of freedom and the cling to whatever vagina monologue they can.

That guy who wrote the paragraph you quoted was right on the money. I know feminists and that is them perfectly.

And Michelle's ass is so big, Andi Sullivan is jealous.

188 Dagny @ 149

That reminds me of a story my former office manager told me about the lawyers we worked for. We had a water cooler than had both a hot water spigot and a cold water spigot. When my office manager first started working at this firm, they told her the hot water spigot was broken and had been from the beginning. The office manager, being a smart, practical woman (who had no college degree but was a former dancer with the San Francisco Ballet and 20 years of hospital experience) checked the water cooler and lo and behold, the hot water spigot worked fine. Turns out none of the lawyers knew that to work the hot water spigot, one had to push the tab in and then push down for the hot water to come out. So, my already low opinion of lawyers went even farther down.

I love men. Since I graduated college, the majority of my friends have been men. I just find them easier to deal with and talk to about most things. If I cared enough, I'd feel sorry for those bitter "feminists" who make men the enemy and are perpetual victims of the "patriarchy." That just doesn't sound like an appealing life to lead.

I hate to say it, but HotAir is where conservative bloggers go to fade away. For whatever reason any pundit who moves there seems to quickly lose any edginess and become generic and predictable. I'm not sure if it's MM's management, being part of a 'real' site, or just that the format of the site tends to stifle individual voices. And it's kind of sad since I wish all of the posters well. 207 I find women in general to be a compelling but strange species. Particularly in how the relate to each other. My ex-wife could spend hours complaining about what a bitch her mother was, but if I made sympathetic noises she turned on me like a wolverine. And for all the talk about how men are clueless about women's sexuality, it's been my experience that the exact opposite is true. Men's sexual lives are quite a lot more nuanced than women give us credit for.

There are rare specimens that I can relate to and have discussions with, but I view most female individuals as a vagina with a yammering-machine attached to it. There is a certain amount of bibble-bibble up with which I will put in return for some horizontal mambo, but the trendlines converge and zoom apart pretty close to the origin-point of the graph. Chalk this up to bad past experiences mixed with bone-deep misanthropy if you wish.

If you're going to go after Bristol Palin, I can't stop you. I can, however, pour the same venom on Michelle "Predator Queen" Obama. Tit for tat.

There's a difference between the two that's worth noting:

Bristol is the child of a politician (and she is still a child at 17, baby of her own or not.)  She was on the trail WITH her mother, in the background, lending support and keeping quiet.

Michelle, on the other hand, is the spouse of a politician.  She was on the campaign trail FOR her husband, speaking out (mostly angry nonsense) and acting as a surrogate.

In my opinion, acting as a surrogate opens up the field for criticism.  Being a supportive family member doesn't.

Who was it that said she didn't get the worst treatment during the election, really, hung in effigy by gays in West Hollywood, 'satirized' by one of Larry Flynt's skanks, in a DNC/TMZ porn, defamed every which way but loose. Impersonated poorly by that pale copy Tina Fey, savaged by Couric and Gibson, now being forced nearly to bankruptcy by those legal bills from those ridiculous ethic complaints, now totally half a million dollars. And hounded by the tabloid rats at the Star and Tyra Banks.

We know why that is, first she's beautiful but in 'a girl next door' sort of way. It's ironic how they exacted the clueless Caroline, while dissing Sarah, in so far as the latter hadn't really done anything, and the former's family had been here before the great grand pappy saloon keeper, had been here 200 years earlier, her bloodline includes Princess Diana and FDR. Add to that she was a star athlete, could beat the One at basketball even now, snowmobile rider, huntress, the Russians picked that up quickly dubbing her the Akhanitsa. Handles the five kids including the youngest Trig, now has to help raise Tripp as well, and the largest state in the Union.

Guts, she has more than the entire party put together, she alone challenged the meaning of the One's plans, and predicted what we're facing now. She was the campaign, for the last three weeks. Even after that, she told the GOP at the RGA conference, nothing doing with the auto bailout, they didn't listen to her, (look where we are, now) and pointed out what part of the stimulus should be accepted. This is back when the GOP was cowering under their desks and Rush hadn't officially said that he "hoped Obama would fail" then she rather single handedly brought Chambliss back to the Senate. This is while they kept recycling those wardrobe and makeup stories, oh and by the way they set fire to her church.

Starting in the new year, she layed out exactly what she was willing to accept from the stimulus, mostly construction projects in remote Alaska, funds for the AGIA pipeline, and for that missile launch site in Kodiak. That's why she went to the Alfalfa dinner, while Allah, talked up the courage of Sanford and Jindal. She then committed blasphemy, challenging Obama to veto the stimulus, while wearing that jacket, the source of that last ethics complaint. Now she's had to face a totally useless legislature, deal with a volcano, a food crisis in the Native areas, a North Korean missile fueling with just enough range to hit Alaska, oh and yes, the stupidity of her former daughter's inlaw's, being as close as you can get to Jerry Springer audience status. She is what we say want, in a candidate, tough, compassionate, hard working, patriotic, god fearing, focused on the key issues, and yes beautiful, yet we let all these anklebiters, cockholsters and weasels, name any ten, from considering her.

If Obama was the black Ronald Reagan many of us would -- no, scratch that, there are
limits even there.

But I am not going to indulge in cheap shots at Michelle Obama. She is not the prettiest woman I've ever laid eyes on, far from it, but neither was Barbara Bush and she got a lot of underhanded jabs when Bush Sr. was president.

This is not about cosmetic features and for one very rare occasion I agree with Allahpundit on this.  This is about policies and political philosophy and it should remain at that level or we run the risk of trivializing a very real danger to this country.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around Obama bowing to the Saudi sheik.  I thought Jimmy Carter's bear hug of Brezhnev was about as embarrassing as it could get but I was way wrong.

I think it's because she's Obambi's wife and the MSM has made a huge investment in him. As to Elizabeth Edwards being a Jackie, probably depends on how much sucking and swallowing the MSM would have had to do.

226 Eh. I'm not going to bash my fellow women. I tend to have more masculine interests, which is probably why I like this blog so much, but I have a posse of female relatives and old friends who will ALWAYS have my back. I have a male posse, too, of heroic men relatives. As great as the men are, my girls are better at some things, like the whole social deal. I'm not good at that shit, and most men are stupid that way, but my girlfriends/sisters-in-law can get some amazing stuff done behind the scenes.

I'm very lucky to have them all.

Anyhoo, there was a 17 year old girl that had a 40 year old boyfriend.

To make a long story short. The cops were called. He was arrested. She threatned to sic her mob family on me. According to her, her father was head of a big mafia family in Iowa. I was going to get it. Um, it turned out that this chick was certifiably insane. She was sent to some mental instution.

229 222 Can someone answer me this: Is MO the next "Jackie Kennedy" because she's black/Obama's wife or because she's the wife of a Dem president? (And better looking than Hillary.

I think it's because he's young, like Kennedy, with a young family and she's tall (so potentially statuesque, if she'd address her posture) and they are desperate to relive the Camelot years. The folks in power are from that era.

The Worf jokes, et al are probably in poor taste -- but they're lightweight compared to some of the trash the left has been slinging at Palin, and yes, my taste and sense of the aesthetic is assaulted every time I have to hear about the "wonder, glory, and ethereal beauty that is MO".  It's rather like the "grandeur, stateliness, and incandescent rhetoric that is BO" -- enough already, and now they must be insulted in ways only the French know how to do.

As for Palin, oddly I found a majority of the horse people I associate with (who are overwhelmingly women) adored Sarah Palin.  A fair number of older women adored her as well. And for the reasons given above -- she had done it on her own, had not tossed out her feminity in the process, and seemed a very strong and genuine (and intelligent) person.  I adored her as well -- and hated the way she has been torn apart by the left (and not protected by the right).

I've found that women like the ones Dagny described (and their tweenish understudies) were the ones who hated her most (oh, and the "men" such wymyn usually have chasing them -- those sorts of "men" hated Sarah almost as much as the "wymyn").  I beg to differ though -- I don't find that it has anything to do with your gender; it has everything to do with whether or not you are a modern, urban, fop who still needs their panties changed by Mumsy.  You'd be suprised at how well some of the backwoods, redneck, "ignorant" women around here can hold their own in a conversation on cars, business, politics, or what is the meaning of life.  I think it's because they live much of it.

237 I don't know how many of the HotAir readers have been following Allah since his "Allah is in the House" days, but back then he was much funnier and spent a lot of time going after, you know, Democrats. His "Dean-o" series from 2004 was one of the funniest things ever posted to the intarwebz. Not to mention his "Crimson Jihad" anti-Yankees series depicting the Red Sox as the fundamentalist islamofascist baseball club Crimson Jihad and the Yankees as the dirty Joooos. And then there was his role in Memogate.

When Michelle named him to the HotAir staff, it pretty much guaranteed HA a huge audience. I know I read (or used to read) HA primarily because of Allah. But his long, 4AM drunk piss-style urination on ideological conservatives over the past year has made him into a horse's ass. Most of his readership is angry with him and he knows it. But he keeps posting the antagonistic QOTDs, keeps linking look-at-me ass explorers like Frum, keeps wining and dining sociopathic trolls, and mostly just acts like a bitch. Worst of all, he's so damn pessimistic he's pretty much elected Obambi President For Life in his own mind and is totally worthless in any kind of conservative right-of-center not-quite socialist organizing and advocacy. He's pretty much just waving the surrender flag while saying, "Fuck My Life." He's still funny sometimes, but that's the exception.

In other words, he's the Letterman of the blogosphere.

I predict he will have retired from blogging (again) by this time next year, or will at least be gone from HA because the readership couldn't appreciate all of his nuance.

Well, I hope to god that doesn't happen. It would destroy the country.

Personally, I think he's a one-term president. He doesn't seem to like the job, he and his wife have already expressed boredom with the WH, and the sooner he's out of office the sooner they can cash in on his "historic" presidency. He'll get a nice, cushy Distinguished Professorship at the Kennedy School (and he won't even have to pretend to do anything, unlike his U of C days when he at least did some teaching) and write 20 more memoirs.

I think there's a measurable possibility that he'll have a break-down of sorts in office (about which we'll never learn except through rumors) and will not run for a second term (or do so half-heartedly).

A girl had a phone call from her father in the office. The girls weren't allowed phones in their rooms nor cell phones. Anyhoo, I paged the girl to tell her she had a phone call. She didn't answer her page, but I knew she was in the dorm. I went to her room with a master keys to all the rooms. I knocked three times. The rule was you were suppose to knock three times before entering with the key. No one answered, however there was heavy metal music playing in the room. I went in to see if she was there. I figured she couldn't hear me because of the loud musid. Well, I stumbled into her and another girl dry humping each other on the bed. I quickly closed the door and let them be. I pretended I saw nothing. It was very embarassing.

She won't, of course, and that will continue to drive them berserk.

254 under quantum mechanics warp bubbles would be unstable at faster than light speeds

Yes, but this presumes a universe that is both anisotropic and unbounded. In a nonsymmetrical, unevenly-dense universe, it would depend on which region of the universe you were in -- a "void" or a "bubble wall", so to speak. The voids, being less massive, would hence "curve" less than a more matter-dense region of space. Further, if the universe is bounded, there is the possibility that light-speed itself changes depending on where it happens to be in the spacetime continuum.

Facts about democrats, especially Obama et al = road kill (if someone is hungry) and a weak insurgence of like minded media numbed fuck them attitudes with no mobilization, except a tea party here or there.

We who oppose obama are strong but our tactics are weak. We focus on our property, our rights and our families and we are smug to the point of complacency.

267 The whole "Why they hate us thing?" A good point, particularly since AQ simply was in the business of killing masses of Americans because it brought money, power, and influence to their leaders.

However, what is very important to understand is who hates Palin and why they invest so much time in tearing her down, and why the media failed to do so to notorious coke-heads and the "Bridget Jones" of Presidential Daughters (coke-head Ashley Biden, who's about one coke-inspired sex tape away from real fame; and falling-down-drunk Chelsea Clinton, respectively).

Women by and large (this is not popular because it is true) HATE HATE HATE Palin, because of her class.

Look at the supermarket checkout counter. I just got back from shopping. Ashley Palin was on the cover of one tabloid, but most of the Tabloids were either filled with beauty shots of "good" women/girls who are climbing up the status pole and "bad" shots of women/girls falling down (they looked ugly). Such as Octomom, or Lindsay Lohan, and so on.

Women are mostly single, the US Census Bureau released figures late last year showing how most women are not married, first time in US Census takign that's happened. They live lives mostly of Seinfeld-Friends status-striving in a mating dance that never ends.

While Guys love that Palin married a blue collar ordinary joe, and is herself fond of hunting and fishing, women HATE HATE HATE that about her because it is a marker of working class status. Working Class women hate that about themselves and dream of rising above it, middle class women FEAR falling into the working class and HATE and despise working class markers, and Upper Class women mock and ridicule working class attributes.

Nothing is more powerful in America than CLASS. This has been true since Andrew Jackson, who Palin resembles in the type of hate she generates, and the haters.

There are some conservative Black guys who hate Obama. Some from Hispanic or Gay communities who are the same (conservative, hate Obama). Let's not get carried away by the rare exceptions. Women, overwhelmingly, save married and older married in particular, HATE HATE HATE Palin. Because women for the most part are status obsessed and HATE anything "prole" or working class.

And honestly, anyone who's spent five minutes observing the sexual dynamics at play in the professional urban environment can see this hatred for Working Class people and attributes. It's why Tina Fey, the tribune of the Professional Women Yuppies, captured the female attitude towards Palin.

Heck look at how the press treats Michelle "Worf" Obama and the One. Yuppie GODS. Since they personify the Yuppie Status struggle shown so well in "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Friends," and "Seinfeld." That's who the Press is and that's who listens to them, watches them, and reads them.

[Left-Right, Republican-Democrat can be only understood in the eternal American struggle of Working Class Americans against Everyone Else. With now, Women largely being part of the Everyone Else. That's because their fundamental interests are mutually exclusive and zero sum. When Working Class folks win, everyone else loses (I put middle and working class together). When Yuppie Status scum wins, Working Class folks lose. Palin is part of that winning and losing.]

I think the Senate is kind of hopeless right now. Too many of them over-intellectualize their way to voting with democrats. We have a lot of cleaning house to do there.

We should focus on the House. It's achievable. We can tap into the mood of the country, which should be in our favor after two years of "spreading the wealth."

Obama can't cope with opposition of any kind. If we can put a monkey wrench in his plans in 2010, I'm convinced he'll start to lose it publicly. The mask will slip and he won't be re-elected.

All I know is that the day Sarah Palin was introduced as the VP candidate for Father Time, I was totally stoked, and not just because she's attractive. For the first time in a very long time I was listening to someone who truly appealed to me as an American. This giddiness lasted for some time, even through most of the despicable media onslaught. I carried that positive feeling till Election Day, only to have that hoped doused like a campfire surrounded by drunk college boys with full bladders. That sudden, lurching jolt from hopefulness to despair is jarring, and I am still fucking pissed off about it to this day.

The tragedy is that Sarah Palin will likely never be elected to high office. A tragedy that the best of America are so despised for stupid, vapid, vicious reasons.

They latch themselves onto conservative causes when it's good for their ratings such as the Recall or Tea Parties, and elbow their way to the front as if they're the ones who started it all. When they think it's good for their ratings, they trash Bush or Palin with the lowest of the DUmmies, Kostards, and Huffblos.  I switched to KABC for good back in 2004 when I was fed up for good with their phony antics. They have no set of beliefs other than their ratings. Just like Allahpundit.

278 Haven't read all the comments, but here's my take. Pailn is what feminism looks like. She has it all.

I work with lefty feminists and they are weak, vapid, miserable, cold and directionless. They don't see that by striving to be men in some way they are making themselves a sort of subset of their "oppressors". They elevate that which they claim holds them back.

Palin has achieved what they cannot all while embracing her gender which makes them seethe.

I'd be proud to be banned for unkind comments about the current FLOTUS yahoo.  I was raised in a certain way, so I'd never post a comment that was too low and depraved, but everything you've said about Michelle has seemed quite fair and defensible, and the Kling-On pic is hilarious.  She's creepy and has a scary face.  I don't think anyone can make fun of her enough.  Goes with the job, so get over it.  She's a whiner who's never accomplished anything (that I've heard about) on her own merits.

I see the Obamas as coarse boors, and their behaviors embarrass and disgust me.  I didn't start off that way.  I was open to having my mind changed about them, especially Barry (after Michelle's stupid comments she seemed beyond redemption.)  But every day brings a new whiff of something stinky.  Every damn day.

I grow so tired of liberals.  Their warped world view, their remoreseless hunger to destroy, their petulant insistence to perjure everything.  Conservatives are so often guilty of corruption in execution, but liberals are corrupt in ideology as well.  It's a poison tree with a rotten root.

I donated to the Palin/old-war-hero campaign the day after Palin was announced as VP. Up to that point, my attitude was expressed in this bumper sticker: "Ah, **** it. McCain '08."

Palin I really liked. Palin I would open my wallet for and work for. I'd like to have dinner with her and her husband; I think we'd have a very pleasant evening.

Obama and his wife (I'll forgo the deserved comments on her appearance) disgust me. I doubt we'd ever have had more than ten minutes of conversation before I would have known that these people were individuals with whom I had nothing in common and a great many disagreements. The fact that such a pair of America-hating cretins could have risen so far in this society speaks horribly ill of the nation that elected them.

If the sickness that permitted their election is as deep-seated as I think it is, radical surgery is going to be required. There is no guarantee whatsoever that the patient will survive at all, and if we do survive, we'll be nothing like we were before. Thus Obama will have accomplished his goal, which was to destroy the America he was raised in.

I couldn't be more disappointed in my country's ability to discern truth from error. Obama over Palin? Insanity to the nth degree.

283 To say that "most" women are single and 'HATE HATE HATE' is simply exageration.

Welcome to the Internet, Kornkat Annie. You may have noticed that we don't go in for reasonable disagreement or carefully-wrought rhetoric as a rule. (And by "we" I mean internet fulminators in general, not just we Morons here at Ace's place.) I do this myself without entirely meaning to: there's something about anonymous(ish) posting that drives people into ideological corners. You start arguing a fairly moderate position, and find yourself driving the point harder and harder until you hit a rhetorical wall. After that, it's all name-calling and shouting.

I don't think this is, a priori, a bad thing as long as you don't take it too seriously. The problem is when this stuff coalesces and hardens, making enemies out of people who might, in some other forum, be far more moderate. "Moderate" doesn't mean "moral coward", mind -- it just means discussing rather than arguing. But many people find this hard to do, even in real life, when discussing things that are near and dear to their hearts.

It's human nature, I guess.

Trying to find a reason for PDS may be entertaining for us, but I don't think we can EVER fully explain it. The sun rises in the east, liberals hate on Sarah Palin. It's just what they do.

295 The MSM did way too good of a job poisoning her image in the minds of the sheeplike masses.

It's not that the MSM did too good of a job poisoning her image. It's that the old-boy GOP and her backstabbing cockholster running mate let her swing in the wind.

The MSM could have been countered, if the GOP and McCain had lifted a finger to do so. They were then, and still are, content to let her be the focus of leftist rage. It's a tactical decision. To their minds, she's cannon fodder, a diversionary tactic that dissipates the Democratic Party's vitriol, allowing some more "deserving" member of the old boy's network to move forward to glory in 2012.

My contempt for the GOP leadership is rather well-developed. Where's the Palin defense fund? She won't ask for a dime to defend against the spurious ethics claims, because of the strength of her character. * She's a woman of faith, who is proud of it.

* She's not from "our class": she has a weird accent.

* She has five kids.

* She hunts and shoots.

* Most importantly: she didn't kill Trig.

Of course, none of this would matter if she had a 'D' after her name.

310 I want to say something to the "Palin can never win" people.

If we want to talk about where the Republicans went wrong last election it was listening to those who said each of the Republican candidates couldn't win.    Romney, because he's mormon.   Giuliani, because of abortion and guns.   Fred, because he didn't have fire in his belly.

And now it's Palin, because the Democrats and Tabloids are mean.

Now we're all sorry about Romney, who for all his faults, likely would have been intelligent about the economy and business.   Giuliani would have projected confidence and an upbeat attitude at home and strength overseas.   And Fred would have hung to conservative principles.

Who keeps talking us out of our good candidates?

Who keeps LETTING themselves be talked out of our good candidates?

315 I get where he's coming from: My attacks on Michelle Obama are ugly stuff. Furthermore, the left is always eager to spin any attack on the Obamas as racist, so I get why someone would want to keep a weather eye on such remarks.

^^Just had to comment on this.  Why do we devote even a microsecond of thought into finding ways to keep the left from calling us racists?  Embrace it ladies and gents - because it's not going away.

The British National Party is making gains in Britain for two reasons ...

1.  The "Tories" are really no longer a Conservative Party and ...

2.  The BNP has been called "fascist" and "racist" so much - that the charges ring hollow with the British people.  They have become immunized to the charges.

Let them call us all racists.  Occasionally we'll say something that someone agrees with - and they'll find themselves agreeing with us "racists".

This completely erodes the effectiveness of the slur.

We'll be called racist no matter what.  Only the timid run from that slur.

This is why all the attacks on Sarah Palin aren't going to work against her in the end.   The worse the attacks, the stupider the attacks, the more that  her children are dragged into it (and no matter how callow, I can't blame Levi for bailing, everything considered) the more that she is called names (and any time we use "caribou barbie" or "chill billy" it actually works to take the power away from the name callers) and the more she's taken to court for doing something as evil as wearing a jacket with a snow-machine logo on it...   that stuff doesn't hurt.   It helps.

349 Roger Simon is my favorite "not a conservative even though he's called that". Roger never claims to be a conservative, tells you exactly where he stands and is always honest about it. If he changes his mind on a subject, he'll give you a full explanation why he does, rather than sneak it in through the back door.  I read him regularly not because I agree with him all the time, but because he's honest about who he is.

I work with mostly women, and I love it! But, then I work in an ICU, where we deal with a lot of high stress on a daily basis. I have 5 or 6 women who are my clostest friends, and they are all strong, very strong, women. These girls dont play, and they dont take shit off nobody. They also all like Sarah, even though a couple of them are Dems. They may not vote for her, but they disagree with the trashing she, and Hill btw, got from the MSM.

Ace, I understand your point about the edge. In what I do, there is an edge that you dare not cross. There is humor there that I cannot ever explain to anyone else, even most of you morons would consider it sick. I live on the edge at work, and there is a responsibility on that edge that most dont understand. One of the reasons that I continue to come back here is the fact that the edge is further down the road than most other blogs I have visited. Twenty years of living on that edge makes you very sensitive to the "line that must not be crossed."

Ace, I appreciate the dilemna you face with some posts. And I, for one, appreciate the yeomans job you, and your co-bloggers. do keeping watch over your site. Coming back here is a joy to me. I know, almost always, that I will have some fun here and participate in good discussions.

That post was wayy too fucking long to read Ace.  Next time let's go for a TL;DR version or someshit.

Posted by: Sir Elliot at April 03, 2009 10:58 PM (DUNS7)

373 Men are by nature merely indifferent to one another; but women are by nature enemies. The reason is no doubt that the odium figulinum which with men does not go beyond the bounds of the particular guild, with women embraces the whole sex, because they are all engaged in the same trade. Even when they simply pass in the street they look at one another like Guelphs and Ghibellines; and when two women meet for the first time there is clearly more constraint and pretense involved than in the case of two men: so that when two women exchange compliments it sounds much more ludicrous than when two men do so. Further, while a man will as a rule still preserve some degree of consideration and humanity even when addressing men very much his inferior, it is intolerable to see with what haughty disdain an aristocratic woman usually speaks to women who are beneath her (I am not referring to servants). The reason for this may be that with women all differences in rank are far more precarious than they are with us, and can be altered or abolished much more quickly, because in our case a hundred different considerations are involved, while in theirs only one is decisive, namely which man they have succeeded in attracting. Another reason may be that, because they are all in the same profession, they all stand much closer to one another than men do, and consequently strive to emphasize differences in rank.

402 No, I have to say I'm a tad befuddled by the woman-bashing theme being developed in this thread. I'm a woman in a male-dominated industry and I believe I've seen my share of sniveling idiots among the male of the species. I also worked in female-dominated environments in my pre-engineering days, and they were characterized by a distinct lack of pettiness and back-stabbing, and plenty of intelligent conversation. I like me my gadgets, but my eyes glaze over when anything automotive is introduced into the conversation. I don't even like bringing my car in to be serviced (although someone wise once explained that it's like having a facial, something you should do seasonally, and while that resigned me to it a little I've always relegated the deed to whatever sig. other was on hand at the time). As for changing a tire? In a Canadian winter, yet? I'd rather administer myself a root canal with an icepick. That is why a wise deity invented roadside assistance. I don't think this represents a irredeemable flaw on my part, but you might disagree.

404 Captain Ed left his best days behind when he gave up Captain's Quarters.

I skip every post by AP. He is too depressing and he is too credulous.  Critical thinking skills are important.  Sometimes, you should not give the Dems the benefit of the doubt, and as he has been proven wrong so many times.  Power Line suffers from this as well.  95% of the time you need to ascribe the malicious motive to the dems and/or MSM, as this has been borne out over the last 24 months many times over..

405 In fairness, the DemSM (FYO) hit Hillary with slurs offensive to women when she was in last year's cage match with Teleprompter.  Most of the PUMA sites, particularly No Quarter went after them for the Palin smears as much if not more fiercely as the Hillary smears.  I saw more hard defense of Sarah from PUMA's than I did from some "conservatives" in most cases.

Mixedberry,

That same wise deity also inspired the axiom, "God helps those who help themselves." Men, at least the ones who aspire to a modicum of independence, learn early to do as much as possible to eliminate dependence on others. Depending on other people to do things you can't do because you didn't bother to learn how is an exploitable weakness. Smart men avoid those. Also, there may well come the time that willing others aren't available. \

Women, for whatever reason, generally don't seem to think like that. Judging from your comment you follow the common female mindset that "someone else will take care of that yucky problem."

Just so you can't say you haven't been warned, people who don't take their automobiles in for proper servicing at manufacturer-recommended intervals (or do the maintenance themselves), are BEGGING for an unscheduled outage. Murphy's Law being what it is, that outage will come at a time when you can least afford it--like, say, at night on a rural road in the middle of a Canadian winter snowstorm. At that point, you're not only in danger yourself, you're bringing someone else--probably a man--into peril to save you from the consequences of your own poor decisions. TFB. Of course, if you're a REAL engineer, YOU ALREADY KNOW THIS.

However, I suspect Sarah Palin would NEVER do something stupid like that.

When I think left-wing women I automatically think trash.  And not appealing sexy trash either.  Really revolting trash.

Put it differently:  we're not talking here about the girl you know who looks good in a miniskirt, always wears way too little, talks about sex a lot, and is always touching you suggestively.  That's the good kind of trash.

No, we're talking about the woman who hangs around with queers (and sometimes screws them), practices witchcraft, has a receding chin, spends most of her time with others like herself bad-mouthing past lovers' sexual performance, and is utterly unappealing both as a person and as a sex object.  When they try to flirt they look ridicuous; they try to act like some idiotic caricature of a dumb broad.

Republican women are much more able to be sexy.  For instance, I shit you not when I say that Mormon women are ofen the sexiest women you'll ever meet.  Not kidding.

Posted by: Ken at April 04, 2009 12:28 AM (pVthj)

417 One of the more interesting criticisms I recall from the election was that Palin was horrible because she looked (and I'll use different words here... it was ruder) she looked sexy without looking like she'd be willing to have sex.

Which is why those Mormon women are so sexy, Ken.   The expectation of some measure of exclusivity is *attractive*.

The female person complaining about Palin thought this was just terrible for some reason.    Maybe she felt it was some sort of hypocrisy, that if one projected sexiness they were also obligated to be a slut.

Who can know?

Posted by: Synova at April 04, 2009 02:00 AM (NxP4A)

Maybe the republican establishment hates her because she has committed the one sin against them that can never be forgiven: She refused to play the 'go along to get along' game with corrupt pols in her home state.  The republican establishment will forgive selling out their principles, they will forgive selling out the base, they will even forgive the occaisional insult or attack directed by one of their own against one of their own  ~ but they will not and can not forgive someone refusing to look the other way when corrupt pols of their own party pillage on the public's dime.

Palin didn't play this game, and her refusal to do so was quite public.  As a result she has very little of a power base in AK politics.  Most of the established republican pols in this state hate her guts, because her refusal to play their game ripped the mask off.  Now some of them are in jail, and many others are in trouble of one sort or another.  Not solely her doing, of course, but to them her refusal to play amounts to a betrayal and they will never forgive her for it.

Maybe the party pols at the national level are afraid that she will upset the apple cart in Washington.  That could explain why she is both loathed and feared by many of the established pols in DC.

To this and the subsequent commentors,  I wouldn't completely despair on this.  Reagan was badmouthed by Norman Lear and his ilk on a regular basis before President Malaise fucked things up so badly here and abroad that the voters thought something along the lines of "The media sure seemed to like this peanut-farming lecherous fuck and that ain't worked out so well."  Add one "There you go again" in the debates and the landslide was on.  Anybody that doesn't think Palin could completely decimate Bammers in a debate is currently trolling HA while AllahDouche is busy spanking it while fantasizing that Meghan McCain thinks he shoots bonbon flavored jizz.

421 Speaking as a chick, I make a request: can we see some more postings about our Urkel-in-chief and making fun of his looks?

While MO is no Venus, she does show some style from time to time, and the worst part of her looks is her pissed-off face (and some people just look like that - my husband has the same problem. Even when his face is totally relaxed and neutral, people think he's angry due to forehead wrinkles). But ole jug ears? Moobs? With his stunning smoker's physique? Women are supposed to be swooning over him, just like women swooned over the ole boozy buffoon of the 90s? Beg pardon?

I understand doing the pushback on MO, but it might be nice to have some on BHO. I can understand Ace thinking he doesn't have the cred to attack another man's attractiveness (hey! ewoks are cute and cuddly! The chicks dig that!), so he can hand that task to LauraW or Gabe.

Or at least give the [straight] chicks here something nice to look at. And I'm not talking Hasselhoff.

422 Who keeps talking us out of our good candidates?

Who keeps LETTING themselves be talked out of our good candidates?

My guess would be the cowards who can only muster enough courage to beat up on our own because they're afraid they may not allowed membership into the really cool VIP room..

For example, Allahpundit most of all wants to be cool...like Meagan McCain kind of cool and that means crapping all over the people Allahpundit's peers think are worthy of crapping on because it makes them feel cool.

Allahpundit is a cheap whore for the cool people and is a cowards because he cannot stand on his own two feet.

As for the theory that  'people don't like racial comments' put forth by ACE.

Well Americans voted for a President who during his campaign  basically said 'WHITEY"S GREED IS THE CAUSE OF ALL THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS' .

I suppose Racism depends upon the color of skin; these days some skins are better than others.

My suggestion is, stop trying to be so damn cool because cool people are the  creepy people

423 Insisting that your side show more civility than the other side, in the face of unrelenting attacks like this, is stupidity and suicide. Allahpundit should know better, just as the GOP idiocracy (which apparently Cantor is a part of) should know better.

424 Why the leftist women hate her so much:

Her husband's secret service name was "Driller".

Leftist women can only dream of getting the drilling that Todd puts to Hottie Sarah. Seriously, imagine going to bed at night with a Tim Robbins type starting foreplay by apologizing for being a man.

Posted by: smarty at April 04, 2009 07:28 AM (aQPSa)

425 I thought the Palin hate thing was exaggerated, until I overheard a conversation at WalMart.  Three women, with a combined IQ that was not likely to reach triple digits, were going on about how they would never vote for McCain because of that awful Palin woman.

NY was never in play for McCain, so in one sense it doesn't matter.  However, I was astounded by the visceral hatred for someone who had actually accomplished something.  I fear the Teleprompter-in-Chief is on to something, namely that there are a huge number of people out there who would tear down what others have built in the name of equality.

I think it's envy that they won't even admit to themselves.  Heaven help those who achieve something in this country, because the mob wants to take it away.

Dead on target. Al Gore's kid was by all accounts the Angel of Death behind the wheel of a car, but nothing in the media. The Bush twins partied a little in a party heavy town like Austin, TX, and they're painted as Tara  Reid clones.

I don't care that lefties hate Sarah Palin; what makes me want to crack skulls is the low-rent way they try and destroy her.  Attacking her family is cruel and out of line, and further proof that liberals are nasty, shitty people.

439 24 I really, really hate that modern feminism has been boiled down to only being militantly pro-choice, and demonizing anyone who isn't.

Posted by: Londo Cardassian at April 03, 2009 06:14 PM (AfReK)

There are a few feminists who get it.  Camille Paglia absolutely adores her, Geraldine Ferraro had some nice things to say about her, and Baroness DeRothschild supported her.

440 Perhaps I can help you in the future when writing about this.  I'm a student and work part-time in the corporate world.  We call them Cubefraus.  The "professional woman" in a cube mostly tied to the copier machine.  There cubes are plastered with cute little sayings, pictures of their "little legacies",  they constantly send out the emails regarding that little girl who needs heart surgery, surveys about your favorite color etc. . . that you need to fill out and forward to six people, constantly collecting for the next baby shower, birthday party, retirement party, so and so's mother is sick blah blah blah.... , eat a lean cuisine at lunch and three snickers and a diet coke at 2 P.M. But their most important function seems to be to trash any successful woman who risen above the hen clucking clutch.  There favorite weapon is to report on who she slept with, true or not, to get where she is.  Or maybe it was the boob job, the tight skirt, the over fussed hair, and iaren't those heels  just a little too inappropriate for the office?

These are the women who espouse feminism yet turned their back on these ideals to elect a darker shade predident for the first time.  These are the women who don't get exactly what they deserve.  The women who will blame everyone but themselves for the glass ceiling.  Better to be a martyr than to try and fail. Or worse yet to try and succeed.  Succeed like Sarah Palin did.

441 mac,

I believe that nowhere did I state that my car didn't receive the same care and maintenance as, say, yours. I said that I was perfectly happy to relegate said care and maintenance to others, not that I was content to watch my car rust into a decrepit heap of rubbish all around me. Thanks ever so much for your sneering concern, but should my car develop a flat tire during the rugged Canadian winter, I had the foresight to arrange for free roadside assistance. I believe that is also helping oneself, like the maxim says.

I don't think it's a laudable goal (or a particularly achievable one) to eliminate my dependence on other people. I don't, for example, know how to hunt and/or forage for my own food, because as an urban person I have the reasonable expectation that I can purchase it at the local market. Similarly, I don't know how to change a flat tire, because as an urban person I can be confident that roadside assistance is never far away. I think it's fabulous that Sarah Palin can do all these things, probably while circling the earth in a superhero costume, but her experience as a rural Alaskan is quite different from mine and I don't seek to emulate her.

Posted by: mixedberry at April 04, 2009 11:57 AM (4F//E)

442 I admire Sarah Palin and respect her achievements, but unlike what some here seem to be insinuating I don't think she's the only role model American females can aspire to. Is that heresy?

"I think you need to be careful who you're painting with that broad brush. *no pun intended*.  There are many very smart conservative women in this country, and many smart liberal ones as well.   Judge by the commenters on this site alone.  Many, many smart women.  Maybe you need to pick a better crowd of "girls" to hang with."

Read the original post. I did say not all but most. I certainly don't pick them but hunt through them for some with a clue. A new friend is a woman who just moved back from London with her Secret Service husband. She was sick of everything being Bush's fault. I let her know that that opinion wasn't exclusive to the English. We are fast friends. I have 3 sons and live in the Washington suburbs, spending the majority of my free time at schools and games, drop off and pick up. The schools are private and the games are travel/select/private school games. I would think this atmosphere would lend itself to fewer stupid women and maybe it does but most of them don't have an opinion in their head that doesn't come from pop culture. Sometimes, when asked they refer me to their husbands. This group includes my very monetarily successful sister. There are some bright conservative women but they are not a huge part of the voting block and are far outnumbered by their stupider sisters.

448 The reasons "feminists" and the left hate Sarah Palin are: (1) Trig; and (2), she can and should be president in 2012, assuming Obama hasn't tossed out the Constitution and declared himself president-for-life.

The Down syndrome baby is the boogey fetus that pro-choicers use to get support for abortion by scaring women about the difficulties of raising a child with disabilities, which are indeed formidable. Sarah Palin and her family are now modelling how to raise a Down syndrome child, which deprives them of the most compelling argument they have.

BTW, I support choice and abortion, with limitations.

Mixedberry,

"I like me my gadgets, but my eyes glaze over when anything automotive is introduced into the conversation. I don't even like bringing my car in to be serviced (although someone wise once explained that it's like having a facial, something you should do seasonally, and while that resigned me to it a little I've always relegated the deed to whatever sig. other was on hand at the time)."

It's my experience that most women don't do things they don't like until absolutely forced by necessity. The rational, abstract thinking needed to comprehend and take action on something in the category of "things they don't like" is a major necessity is also not one of the gender's strong points. There is a reason engineering classes are overwhelmingly male, and it isn't restriction to female entry. Am I painting with a broad brush? Yes. Are there some brilliant women eingineers? Yes. Did the single female vote elect Obama? Yes.

I'll hope, for your sake, that when you need help your cell phone battery isn't dead and you're in a place with good reception.

453 Just to show how much they hate Sarah Palin I'm thinking of linking this thread to a liberal site.  The truth is, by accepting the bashing of Sarah Palin with the use of sexist tactics, the left did more damage to feminism than any right wing pundit, court appointee, or politician ever could.  They allowed women(Hillary and Sarah) to be the sacraficial goats in order to elect a halfrican American.  Imagine attacking a woman because she had more than Al Gore's reccommended 1.5 children?  Sarah was attacked on the very biological core of what makes a woman a woman.

Posted by: Luc at April 04, 2009 07:03 PM (kyxvm)

454 Its called fear.  Palin, a self-made and beautiful woman, refutes much of what the left has been dishing out for so long and she doesn't take their shit. So the lefties fear her so they attack her.  I wonder how the younger professional women view her because I don't think many of them have bought into "I'm a pissed off, man-hating, wrinkled professional woman with no men in my life except for dwarfs, queers, and poorly groomed men who look like Ward Churchill."
