Wapo: Iranian Missile Team Working With Norks Observing Nork Missile Stuff but Doing Nothing Else Useful I'm Sure

Shocka, I know.

Sankei said in a separate dispatch from Washington that 15 personnel from the Iranian satellite and missile development company Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group are staying in North Korea at the invitation of the North Korean government.

It's awesome how helpful they are to each other, the North Koreans and the Iranians, with "man-made bad catastrophe thingys" or whatever the pussified expression is that the Obama administration came up with.

Axle of evil.

8 How will this be blamed on Bush in the Sunday talkshows?  Oh, I know.   The Norks and the Iranians are working together because Bush labeled them as part of the Axis of Evil.  But, don't fear!  Messiah's "smart diplomacy" will soon see the separation of these two parties...

37 Oh, it's worse than that, my friends.  Our super-genius SecDef just said we're not prepared to do anything about the launch (see Fox News's website).  So in one statement we've not only greenlit the launch, but we've announced to the Norks that, should anything happen to their little rocket party, it's Japan and not us who did it.

So I guess that's our #2 ally hung out to dry now.  All the (soon to be ex-) US allies Odumbass has boned over should form a support group or something.  Will anyone believe anything the US government says after 4 years of this clown show?

I'm seriously worried about a "Black Swan event" in the near future -- a man made one like 9/11.

Could you imagine if the Norks nuked Taiwan and then China invaded? The world-wide balance of power would be shifted instantaneously and America would be left slack-jawed, holding its dick in its hand.

I have a bad feeling that a real world changer will happen sometime in the next four years.

It's going straight over their heads, according to the Nork flight plan.

Well, they have the tools and they have the talent. Shoot the sumbitch down, I say.

I know Japan is supposed to have a pacifist attitude but at what point does one say "Fuck you" and shoot back?

Hopefully not when a "satellite" falls on Tokyo.

Posted by: ErikW at March 29, 2009 02:00 PM (hKtiw)

45

I believe that world changer was Barack being elected, signifying a sea change in the attitude and philosophy of Americans.  Most of the USA believes government is the answer, and that they deserve to have a great life without earning it.  The demographic shift that is and will continue to occur in this country is going to change the fundamentals on which the founding of America was based.

After his election, we have spent all our credit on bailing out businesses.  We will owe money forever, or at least until the borders of this country have changed.

47 I just assumed that Iran would be involved in this Nork "satellite launch". The Iranians are working on the payload, but they still don't have a reliable delivery system. The Shahhab doesn't have the range or the accuracy the Iranians want, but the Nork No Dong does (at least in theory). But a lot of the upgrades the Norks have put into the missle are untested -- things like course-correction mechanisms, flight dynamics, software, stuff like that. Stuff that you can theorize about all you want, but which requires testing to be comfortable.

It strikes many observers as odd that a starving, broke, backward country like North Korea spends their badly-needed resources working on weapons systems for "self defense". The reality is that these advanced weapons are produced almost exclusively for export purposes, and mostly with foreign money. If North Korea ever used a ballistic missile in an attack on an enemy, even with a conventional warhead, they would get pummeled and they know it. But foreigners are willing to smuggle money in and smuggle weapons out, and that's what this is all about.

North Korea is the weapons-shop for Iran, Syria, and pretty much every other rogue regime out there with enough money and  an axe to grind. But buyers of big-ticket items want to know that their expensive toys will work; thus this test. And the West has to decide if it's worth the potential cost to shoot the missile down or deal with the proliferation issues later. South Korea will bear the brunt of any North Korean response, and they don't seem particularly anxious to stop the Nork launch.

I think that the world is going to give the Norks a pass on this one, unless Japan puts its foot down and demands action.

>> Could you imagine if the Norks nuked Taiwan and then China invaded?

Taiwan is 120 miles long and 90 miles wide.  If the Norks nuke it, it's because China is done with it.

Hell, they don't need nukes.  They could start dropping human beings as bombs and wipe em out without even noticing Chinese people were missing.

Taiwan is 120 miles long and 90 miles wide.  If the Norks nuke it, it's because China is done with it.

News Flash:

People still live in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The city of Hiroshima today has a population in excess of one million people and it' metropolitan area has a population greater than two million. The current population of Nagasaki is about 450,000.

If the Norks nuked Taipei and the Chicoms invaded in the aftermath it would be a real world changer.

There are lots of other scary world changing scenarios. Lots in the Middle East. Lots around the world. Most may seem wacky, just like 9/11 style attacks did. I worry about them, Dave, because people like you and members of the Obama administration don't.

Thinking inside the box doesn't help.

Posted by: Tinian at March 29, 2009 03:54 PM (Ohodx)

54 Words:  Our super-genius SecDef just said we're not prepared to do anything about the launch (see Fox News's website).

Actions:  Surge our Aegis capability into a position to take the shot

Which message do you think the NOrks are receiving?  Remember, they are starving and paranoid.

Imagine the repercussions if we let the launch go, the second stage drops on a Japanese school, and the "satellite" splashes down in the general vicinity of Hawaii.  I believe the Japanese Navy only has one Aegis class ship, that is not enough to maintain an effective picket for the entire island.  We will have to help.

Tinian, yeah, I know the half life of Taiwan isn't 50 years.

But China's interest in Taiwan is a) political (i.e. the US stole the completion of their victory over the Nationalists and they will by God have it completed), but even more so b) the economic engine that is Taiwan, the 3rd largest economy in Asia-Pacific.

Nuking it kills that. For more than a generation.

It should be apparent that China's patience over point a means point b is a bigger deal to them.  They're gonna long-game it, just like they did Hong Kong. They don't need nukes to take Taiwan, they could do it conventionally any fucking time they wanted to. Of course, they inflict the same damage to the prize, so they don't. That's not thinking "inside the box". That's just actual thinking.

Posted by: Dave in Texas at March 29, 2009 05:31 PM (eiOZw)

57 Not too long ago, "anti-proliferation" was the default on the left for this kind of thing. Thanks to 25-30 years of 'critical thinking' the default is now something between "be fair" and "we suck."

That's just a fantastic way to treat a nuclear, desperate and mostly insane state.
