Tim Geithner...Dumber Than A Box Of Rocks (With All Due Apologies To Boxes And Rocks)

Timmah "The Only Man Who Can Save Us" nearly tanked the dollar because he's, how do I put this? Oh yeah, a fucking moron.

Yesterday China floated the idea of a new currency to replace the dollar.

Today Timmy said, "neato!"

"I haven’t read the governor’s proposal. He’s a very thoughtful, very careful distinguished central banker. I generally find him sensible on every issue," Geithner said, saying that however his interpretation of the proposal was to increase the use of International Monetary Fund's special drawing rights -- shares in the body held by its members -- not creating a new currency in the literal sense.

"We’re actually quite open to that suggestion – you should see it as rather evolutionary rather building on the current architecture rather than moving us to global monetary union," he said.

Even the moderator of the event saw this was a problem and kind of got Timmah back on track

Needless to say, in the mean time currency traders ran for the hills.

When asked last night at his news conference this same issue, Obama said, "I don't believe that there's a need for a global currency." See the difference? When even Obama gets it and you don't, there's a problem.

And yes, I get there's a technical difference in what he's talking about, 'special drawing rights', and a new currency. The thing is, the Treasury Secretary isn't some anonymous technocrat, he's the global spokesman for the US government on financial matters. Geithner doesn't seem to understand he's not back at the NY Fed or the IMF talking theoretically with his fellow economists and bankers. This is a bigger and broader job and one he's clearly not up to.

The thing is, the Treasury Secretary President isn't some anonymous technocrat legislator, he's the global spokesman for the US government on financial mattes. Geithner Obama doesn't seem to understand he's not back at the NY Fed Senate or the IMF Illinois statehouse talking theoretically with his fellow economists and bankerslegislators. This is a bigger and broader job and one he's clearly not up to.

See the pattern?

They don't care.

They didn't take power to run the country.

They took power to rob the country.

Obama is a looter.  Porkulus and the earmark-laden Omnibus Bill is a smash-and-grab.  Everything else is primarily diversionary.

In this context, it all makes sense.

7 Obama should clarify: he meant to say that Special Olympians were doing an awesome job, and that Geithner is retarded.

The crux of the Beck show yesterday with “the Mustache” was that it appeared that Obambi wanted to turn U.S. sovereignty over to the U.N.

Although the Mustache agreed that there WERE elements in the government who favored policies that would do just that he wouldn’t come right out and say it was Obambi.

I think it is time to start thinking impeachment for treason.

11 I'm kind of a contrarian here: done right, a global currency would actually be a good thing in lots of ways. It would almost certainly increase the global GDP by a significant margin by allowing the smaller/more marginal players a more even playing-field, and reduce the catastrophic crashes of certain economies (like Zimbabwe). For the USA, it would allow us to decouple our monetary policy from foreign policy in ways that aren't possible right now.

That is: if it's done right.

But it's a pipe-dream in reality because there is at present no real infrastructure to support such a GloboBuck. There is no objective arbitrating body to mediate disputes, and no enforcement arm with enough power to impartially impose penalties on malefactors. And since most economies are local first and global second (or third, or fifth), then every regional conflict would lead to a world currency crisis.

12 I think it is time to start thinking impeachment for treason.

I maintain that it would be easier for the US Supreme Court to declare him ineligible for office and replace him with Biden.

(I don't want to address the legitimacy of the "birther" arguments, but it's a damn sight easier for the USSC to declare him ineligible than to get Obama's own party to impeach and remove him.)

13 Sorry if I am bursting your bubble, but, just casue the prez said it doesn't mean he gets it or understands it cause I've heard him say one thing one day at one place and time and then seen him change his tune another day at another place and time.

Gozer
: [after Ray orders her to re-locate] Are you a God?
[Ray looks at Peter, who nods]
Dr Ray Stantz: No.
Gozer: Then... DIE!
[Lightning flies from her fingers, driving the Ghostbusters to the edge of the roof and almost off; people below scream]
Winston Zeddemore: Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say "YES"!

So Timmy, next time someone asks you if you are in favor of replacing the dollar you say "NO"!

Since Bernanke just announced that the Treasury is buying bonds, Wall Street- the dealers en masse- are basically refusing to show a good bid but then taking out a huge profit out of the Treasury. RE:  The GloboBuck

The unavoidable problem with any internationalist scheme is that the developed world is outnumbered by the shitholes on the globe.  At least half the people on the planet would usher-in allah-flavored or marx-flavored totalitarianism if given the opportunity.

One man.  One vote.  One time.

Hell, in November, our idiot countrymen did the same thing for ourselves.

23 done right, a global currency would actually be a good thing in lots of ways. [...] and no enforcement arm with enough power to impartially impose penalties on malefactors.

Nor should there ever be. Any group with that much power would automatically become the single most corrupt body in history. There would be nothing but misery for everyone except a very select few.

Anything that's 'good in theory' only shouldn't be trifled with. This is a serious destabilizing idea, one more easily dismissed if the administration had simply kept their traps shut. Furthermore I doubt it would have enough trust of the average person to be anything but an exercise in world-wide hyperinflation. No trust = no currency.

So Geithner would have to make the switch from not paying his taxes in dollars to not paying his taxes in this new currency?

I am sure he could pull it off.

25 This whole thing reminds me of when I was a teenager.  My mom would come home and ask the question "Did you eat?"  Now, I did eat, three bags of skittles and a couple of cokes so I would answer yes.  My mom would say good and I would live in fear that she would ask more questions.  Usually she would say I hope you enjoyed your lunch and I would say I did.  Now, mom assumed I made myself a nice sandwich and had a big glass of milk.  And I would not correct her because, technically I had eaten.  As time went on she learned to ask the "what did you have honey question."  Why aren't they asking the further probing questions of anyone anywhere anymore?

27 Dumber than what kind of rock - igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic?  Geithner seems replete with ignorance, which would suggest he might be igneous-like, yet he only paid his taxes after being worn down over time, which would associate him with being sedimentary.  On the third hand, he's part of the Hopenchange Express, evoking images of being transformative and metamorphic!

So much rock!  So much confusion!

28 if you read yahoo, cnbc or google, you'd think the market was up about 2% today and everything was great in Obama land, as Reid announced a half hour ago he'd pass Obama's budget.

No mention of the  undersubscribed nature of our treasury bond auction v. expectations, and the market tanking since then - first tiem the bond and stock market moved in the same direction in a long time, very ominous.

29 We really needed this guy?  He was the one guy who understood TARP?  Really?

I am willing to serve in the job.  I know virtually nothing of finance, but I have a PhD in math, so I can figure it out on the fly, which would be better than what Timmah has been doing.

I've paid my taxes (believe me!) and I took micro and macro in college (and I'm willing to bet $5000 that Obama took neither, but we won't get the transcripts, will we?).

I promise the following: No bailouts, no nothing.  We'll let the economy ride, let failed companies fail and let the ones that survive, survive.

There is no reason at all to bailout a financial company.  It's not like they have to cap wells or sell off heavy machinery at a loss.  You don't even have to feel sorry for the fired employees because it seems that they make bank even after firing.  Good for them.

Maybe Geithner's been in the financial sector too long.  These guys get paid no matter how incompetent they are.  But I can be just as incompetent as Geithner at half the price!  Perhaps even less incompetent.  Shouldn't be too difficult.
