It's Alive! Looks Like Comprehensive Immigration Reform Is Coming Back

President Barack Obama will present plans for immigration reform this year, Hispanic lawmakers said Wednesday after strategic talks at the White House.
Obama "was clear and eloquent and determinate to let us know that we are all together in the route of comprehensive immigration reform," Democratic lawmaker Luis Gutierrez told reporters after the discussion between the president and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC).
"We believe that we are moving forward this year, we are going to work with the president," added CHC leader Nydia Velazquez.
Obama will convene a public forum on the issue "probably in two months," according to New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez.

A couple of months ago I would have never thought Obama would be so stupid as to try and tackle this during 'the worst economy since the Great Depression' (is that today's talking point or is it the happy one?) but now I put nothing past this bunch.

Oh well, get ready to be called all sorts of names. As if we weren't already.

And just for added fun...Speaker Botox says enforcing immigration laws is "un-American".

18 If you want to block "reform", the absolute best way to do it is to start asking politicians tough question on video. "Tea parties", street protests, and the like aren't going to have an impact. Calling Congress is going to have an impact, but only if hundreds of thousands of people do it.

What will have an impact is if people have an impact on politicians' careers over this issue by making them look bad on video. The GOP is trying to do something similiar, but the questions they're asking are incredibly stupid. A good question asked by someone who's familiar with asking questions would have an impact on someone's career and would send a message to the rest.

My point wasn't that Steele has been competent so far: he hasn't. But that amnesty is such a huge and important issue that, if he handles it well, his early mistakes will be easily forgotten; and if he handles it poorly his early mistakes will seem trivial by comparison.

I'm not optimistic about Steele. From what we've seen so far, it seems that his biggest fault is his desire to be liked by the media, and the accompanying delusion that he can make them like him if he just compromises his principles a little bit more.

On amnesty, we will see the "racism" card played over and over again against anyone who dares dissent from left-wing orthodoxy. Does anyone think Steele has the strength to withstand that? More likely he goes on MTP (or whatever) and condemns the "mean-spiritedness" of Republicans opposing amnesty and endorses the (McCain backed) "compromise" bill which limits amnesty to illegal immigrants who have been in America for over six months and limits subsequent immigration to five million per year.
