| Not Exactly the Best Way to Win Friends & Influence PeopleThis article, from the Tulsa World, is a story that I've been just waiting to hear since the inauguration. Not that I knew it would happen in this arena, but I knew it would happen SOMEWHERE. Sort summary: Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation volunteer hunter safety instructor starts out his class with the question "How many of you voted for Obama?" When the Obama voters in the class raise their hands, Mr. "I'm The Only True Patriot In This Room" demands that they immediately leave or else he'll cancel the class for everyone else. Obama voters leave, class goes on as scheduled, and after a phone call the ODWC asks this instructor to please not let the door hit him in the ass on the way out of their building. I do sympathize with the instructor on one point: Given Obama's antipathy towards firearms and firearm owners, I think its appropriate to point out the fact that people who want to hunt should maybe vote for anyone BUT Obama. But throwing a hissy fit & demanding that they leave HIS classroom? Not cool. Not cool at all. Think of it from an "Evangelical Conservative" position: If liberals never learn about guns and gun safety, they will never become active sportsmen. Keeping them from taking a class where firearms are presented in a positive light just guarantees that they'll continue to be braindead morons on Second Amendment issues. And becoming active sportsmen is the gateway to becoming conservative, at least on Second Amendment issues. I'm not saying that shooting a squirrel makes you appreciate lowering the capital gains tax to 15%; but realizing that guns are simply tools that are as good or as evil as the person holding them can be a real eye opening experience for some people.Comments1
Got a point or two there. How 'bout this - class instructor asks "who voted for Bush" & kicks 'em out. Any chance that makes the news/gets an instructor booted?

A hunting class...in Oklahoma.....it's hard to believe there were any Obama voters there to begin with. How many left 2?
Still, the only tool here was the instructor. I would have asked how the fuck it was any of his business who I voted for anyway? Posted by: Rocks at March 13, 2009 03:13 PM (Q1lie) 4
Excellent point.
If you know a die hard liberal who isn't a total retard, teach them how to shoot. If you really care about them, buy them a gun. They probably won't be a liberal for long. Posted by: shill at March 13, 2009 03:13 PM (8jYMc) 5

Snark aside, the idea of using firearms as a gateway out of leftardedness sounds good in theory but is weak in practice. There are lots of people who are avid shooters but whose collectivist tendencies drive how they vote. I would even guess that there are avid shooters who are against RKBA. There was a huge thread at thehighroad.org not too long ago in which more than just a few of the senior members defended the AHSA, a fairly transparent front group for the gun-control lobby. One pervasive theme of leftardness is the inability to connect the dots between making other people do stuff and being forced to do it themselves. You don't know how many of those Obama voters this instructor kicked out might go on to become drill sergeants in the Civilian National Security Force. I honestly don't want Obama's browshirts that well trained in using firearms.

Maybe I'm a skeptic, but ... ( I haven't read the story) .. former Californian moves to Tulsa and tries to take a gun course. Thrown out for being an Obama voter. Tells press.... etc. First off, I agree that had this been an anti-Bush instructor nothing ever would have been heard. Second, I honestly doubt the veracity of a former Californian who moves to the one state in the union that voted overwhelmingly for McCain and then enrolls in a gun class. Then, we're slightly out of the norm for that type of voter, this voter says they were told to leave if they voted for our dear leader. Who would have known? Why wouldn't this person just fight through the pain and stay in the class? How could they no square that one of the most anti-gun Presidents in modern history was just elected and he has a solid lock on Congress and is making all moves of a socialist. This makes me raise an eyebrow and think... what if a left-tard liberal decided to put him/herself into a situation where their sensibilities would be offended and then prompty brought attention to the infraction KNOWING the press would print their grievance and it would be repeated. I understand the instructor should have left the Obama out of it. But this is a free country. This guy spoke his mind. He lost a customer for him or the place he worked for because of his free view. He lost his job because of his speech. That's how it works. I'm sure there will be several places for this guy to find work in the surrounding states IF not right there in Oklahoma. Non - story if you ask me. Posted by: Rusty Dog at March 13, 2009 03:36 PM (h1N6u) 19
I don't have any problems shooting with liberals and encourage them to learn about guns. Trouble is that lots of them have mental illness histories or anger management problems. Comes from having their outrage glands stoked too often, IMHO

It was a jackass thing to do, and he deserved to get canned. Grown-ups have to find a way to disagree without demonizing. (A trick most of the political Left in this country never has learned, which is why I consider them children and not adults.)

No, he's a VOLUNTEER firearms safety instructor working through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. In case you don't know, that's a State Government Agency. You know, the State Government that's supposed to represent ALL the residents. Even the ones who were goddamn stupid enough to vote for Obama. And the Obama voter in this story? A United States Marine who was attending the class with his grandson. I seriously doubt that this guy doesn't know which end of a rifle points downrange. @24 Monty I don't know anymore. I used to think of it as mere disagreement out of a sense of patriotism, but I've turned the corner on the demonizing. It sounds to me like Mr. Wolf let it bubble out of him. For me, it's not only Obama that I'm demonizing. It's his supporters, as well. The sorry truth is that somewhere around half the people in this country granted this government a mandate to move us so far out of touch with our foundational principles that these "fellow citizens" have graduated from being in opposition to my ideals to being my enemies. I have this foreboding that we are hurtling toward a break in civil order because the dumbasses in charge are messing with things they don't even begin to understand. The only correct thing for me to do is to keep on keeping on with life but also to cultivate the mindset needed to get through the upcoming mess. Part of that mindset is seeing the enemy as the demons that they are. Posted by: MikeO at March 13, 2009 04:09 PM (4sSHg) 29
And this is a story why? Lib teachers and professors humiliate their conservative students regularly, and those classes actually could have an effect on your life. This is a weapons training class and their are dozens of other people you can go to. You may think the guy was being an ass but hey, I think we have the right to be asses.

It shouldn't be a surprize that most Obama supporters had no clue what the Big Owe stood for on any issues. It should also be remembered that they voted for Zero simply because he was richer in melanin than the average white man and that Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her bathroom. In addition, John McStain was virtually indistiguishable on most issues from Jughead. Posted by: Speller at March 13, 2009 04:16 PM (iYtzV) 31

AnonDriv: Since I'm not an Okie (I can count to 17 with both my shoes still on my feet!), I can't speak to Oklahoma law, but here in Iowa kids need to get a hunter safety certificate in order to get a hunting license. These courses are typically run by Iowa DNR personnel or local gun/hunting clubs that have certified instructors. "Homeschooling", even by a qualified grandfather, isn't recognized as equivalent to the standard course. Posted by: Russ from Winterset at March 13, 2009 05:26 PM (cdAdD) 38

1) He was a volunteer. His free time, his right to decide who to teach or not teach. Freedom of Association is a fundamental right, despite the Supreme Court's historic hatred of it.
2) The government made him apologize by illegally threatening him. Oklahoma should be able to tell him, no more teaching our class, if that is what they want, but they shouldn't be allowed to threaten to screw him over it. 3) Yes, people need the license to hunt. Yes, the government saves money by using volunteers versus clueless unionized government workers. The number of actual DNR goverment employees teaching is vanishingly small, if only because the classes tend to be held after school/work, when govt employees don't want to work. I served with a Marine who was a die-hard liberal (yeah, we had fun in the field!) ...... was smart, educated and articulated his positions as well as any one else I'd ever heard. Can't figure out how someone could be a hunter and not a rock-ribbed conservative? You morons need to get out more. Seriously. Troubling. Hunter education is not a firearms course. It covers some basic safety rules and firing positions (hunter's versions), but no one touches a firearm. Volunteers don't have "rights" like Jeff Cooper; they go to an academy course, must agree to state policies, and pledge to add or subtract nothing from the approved content of the class. And you learn never to say "weapon." Certainly someone in this group must have taken a hunter-ed course, once. Did you know that every time you buy ammunition, the excise tax pays for those courses? It's a federal tax. It forces target shooters and self-defense carriers to subsidize hunting. Now that you know, do you have an opinion?

Just another asshole who lets politics affect everything in his life and can't abide disagreement. A petty totalitarian.
I've got a liberal pussy co-worker who I get into regular political arguments with that get very heated. When we've both had our say, it's over, and then we're joking about our respective football teams or talking about the stellar jugs on the hottie sales rep Laura. It's not hard to do. Respect the person, hate their politics. There's more to life than politics, and everybody's got the right to their vote and opinion. Punishing people who disagree with you is lame. There are many, many Obama voters who are so freaking stupid they don't know 3/4 of his positions. Yes, this wasn't his private class to rule, but these dipshit Obama voters need to be slapped in the head with their decision. Heck, anyone with a 401k is pretty easy to abuse now. Tell them how the market tanks every time Obama opens his mouth, or every time he passes one of his bills.
Gun owners need to learn too, and ditto Catholics and Jews, although any Christian who votes for the abortionmiester is probably beyond logic, and as for Jews continuing to vote for the party of anti-sematism... Posted by: smarty at March 14, 2009 07:22 AM (aQPSa) 56
This is indeed a scandal. The volunteer instructor was doing his best to promote gun safety. Why would anyone instruct idiots on the use of firearms, and I agree with the instructor, voting for Obama is a disqualifying failure of intelligence. He was not only protecting the poor fools, but also anyone they would encounter while holding a firearm. No good deed goes unpunished. (I'm really surprised by this story - I thought the Obamites in the New Regime were all about telling people what to do because they 'know best' what is best. Imagine my surprise at their mother's mistake.) Posted by: HRPKathy at March 14, 2009 11:24 AM (gq1Fx) 57

Also, while Russ' thought is nice, it's rather overly optimistic. History teaches us that when leftists learn to use firearms they don't go a'-hunting, they go a'-confiscatin'.
