Did Obama Play Politics With Troop Deployments?

Based on this post from Greyhawk, it sure looks like it.

One brigade diverted from Iraq to Afghanistan to great public fanfare, meanwhile another brigade is quietly sent to Iraq in it's place. All while months of training and vital skills are wasted.

Now imagine if Bush had done this. Of course you can't because it's simply unimaginable that he would have done this.

1 Finally, a worthwhile topic.

The One has to pretend he gives a damn about foreign policy, other than taking time to mollycoddle dictators and terrorists.  Viva Gitmo.

4 One of my friend's husbands was due to be shipped off to Iraq in February.  After Obama was elected in November, she thought that the silver lining in her dismay was that her husband might not be shipped off.

I told her that he would still be leaving (which of course he did) and that all of Obama's talk about disengaging from Iraq is all political hot air.

He continues to talk about his 16-19-month disengagement plan, but I'll guarantee here and now that when the new election take place in 2012, we'll still be fighting in Iraq.

We are there for a reason, not for shits and giggles--and although Obama may have road in on the horse of Iraqi disengagement, now that he's in the big-house, he knows good and well that it's easier said than done.

No doubt he'll blame his lack of disengagement on Bush for one reason or another in 2012 though.

5 This is not a hill the building (the Pentagon) will defend.  Shit like this falls under the category of "suck it up and drive on."  When he starts meddling with O&M dollars, O-6 to O-7 promotions, and retirement pay -- then the trenches will get manned.

The best thing Obama could do right now to repair his image with the Army, is get to reverse or rewrite the beret decision.

14 My thoughts and prayers to all our troops for the simple reason that if Obama is playing to form on domestic policy then he has no intention of being a tough foreign policy leader in times of crisis= getting troops killed through stupidity or duplicity.

15 OT, but the last post died an hour ago, and so I am late to this dance.

Can we please have a post where we morons get to suggest thread topics related to taking the fight to the dems?

As an example, we should be sowing internal division in their ranks, not ours. Here in NE PA, we have an attempt to build a wind farm being thwarted by the local NIMBYs. If we can't get them to join us, can we at least get them to fight each other? As the greens fight the NIMBYs, we could then identify the most reasonable individuals and try to pick them off. Or just troll them, trying to exacerbate their internal tensions.

You people are smarter than I am. Surely you all can think of other strategeries, and the posters here (when they are sober) can then run with any suggestions that make sense.

And we can save the insults for the important threads - the flame wars.

P.S. Since no one else will say it: cockholster.

If President Obama, (I get a tic when I type that), continues true to form, look for a proposal for repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Additionally, with the administration moving to talk with moderate Taliban, (note Karzai's approval), DefSec Gates, and General Petraeus are being put in a bind. These men are charged with protecting the lives of our warriors, and, it's a charge they know is a sacred duty. Politics stops at some point, and reality intrudes.

Gates and Petraeus may counsel the President privately, but if the President doesn't get it, then duty and honor will demand action. I'm glad Gates and Petraeus are proven quantities.

29 Spend ten minutes discussing foreign policy with any leftist and you KNOW that Obama's tough talk about Afghanistan was classic subterfuge to sound tough while being a pussy about Iraq. Mention Iraq, you get why not Iran? Mention Iran, get why not North Korea? Pierce through their disingenuousness and stupidity and it inevitably leads to "we armed Hussein", "we armed the Taliban", "we overthrew the government in Iran" (in what? 1953?). They have no belief system, no national security vision except that ultimately we are the bad guys mixed with a fake seriousness about any nation other than the one specifically under discussion.

Posted by: Steven P at March 08, 2009 07:23 PM (fkgyi)

36 The problem with expecting Gates or Petraeus to resign in protest is that they would know that they were leaving the men and women they command in the hands of people much worse.  OTOH, they are duty bound to follow the orders of the CiC, unless they are illegal-Nuremberg established that).  They are in a tough bind.

41 Petraeus is a soldier - his honor won't allow him to leave his men on the field of battle when he still has the capability to affect their situation.

He won't resign until Obama personally attempts to override his orders - or ties his hands in fighting the war.  If you see Petraeus resign - it means we are about to lose a war.

The real target was not al qa'eda or anything else, the real target was the country your lliving in as well as britain.

You are now truly living in a jewish state and all this is about producing many mixed race kids so that when the war is over and all soldiers are home, the number of coloreds will be substantially higher.

Britain and america are jewish states, the people of these nations, the indigenous and those who built the nation, are now foreigners in these countries.

Wellcome to the state of israel.
