Obama Ordered Review: Gitmo Meets Geneva Convention Standards

The review was carried out on Obama's orders but by the military. That alone will will probably be enough for the left to dismiss it out of hand. Still, it must be considered bad news by the administration given it was released late on a Friday afternoon.

I'm sure Andrew Sullivan, the various incarnations of Glenn Greenwald and the rest of the usual suspects will be apologizing to George W. Bush. Yep. Any minute now. Any. Minute.

8:  Is that Beck of the Glenn persuasion or of the "I'm a loser, so why don't you kill me persuasion."

Yeah, Beck of the Glenn persuasion played a role last fall in convincing me to exercise my second-ammendment rights.  One has to take him with a dose I think, but it is also hard to deny that things look grim.

The situation itself is bad enough, but it is complicated by the fact that substantial portions of the world also appear to have gone bugfuck insane.

Sane people might salvage the day.  These people?  Well, back to Kafka...

32 excerpt from "The Gitmomorphosis" by Franz Kafka

As Barack Obama awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect. He was lying on his hard, as it were armor-plated, back and when he lifted his head a little he could see his domelike brown belly divided into stiff arched segments on top of which the Lincoln Bedroom quilt could hardly stay in place and was about to slide off completely. His numerous legs, which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his eyes.

What has happened to me? he thought. It was no dream. His room, a regular Presidential Unicorn bedroom, only rather too small, lay quiet within its four gilded, brocaded walls. Above the table on which a collection of Global Warming Awareness DVDs was unpacked and spread out -- Obama was a secular preacher -- hung the picture which he had recently cut out of an issue of Mother Jones and put into a pretty gilt frame. It showed Ramsay Clark, with a fur hat on and an orange jumpsuit, sitting upright in Gitmo and holding out to the spectator a papier-mâché puppet of George W. Bush into which the whole of his forearm had vanished.

Posted by: George Orwell at February 20, 2009 06:01 PM (AZGON)

33

So, when did al-qaida sign the Geneva Convention?

Oh, they didn't.

Then why are they not being shot out of hand like the vermin they are?

This weakness on the part of Bush was one of the many things I disagreed with him on, but at least he was willing to fight terrorism.  We will see what the One does, but so far I am not optimistic.

Terry Moran of ABC's Nightline was the guest.  This is what he said about President Obama.

MORAN:  In some ways, Barack Obama is the first president since George Washington to be taking a step down into the Oval Office, I mean from visionary leader of a giant movement, now he's got an executive position that he has to perform in, in a way, and I think the coverage reflects that.

I hope the report talks about how far the conditions in GITMO surpass the Geneva Convention requirements.  The superior medical care,  special meals,  handling the koran with gloved hands and all the other bullshit the scumbags in there don't deserve.  They will also hopefully report on the abuse the guards receive from the inmates.  Shit,  piss,  vomit,  jizz is all thrown at the guards.  Guards have been attacked and disfigured by the inmates.  The place is a hell hole - for the guards.

88 Tinian, I'm not saying it's all his fault.  I'm saying that he didn't twist enough arms to get his regulations passed.  Remember how the RX program was kept palatable by giving a ten year estimate with no expense in the first two?  In 2003 he rolled the Dems (rightly) on Iraq.  In 2005, he had just whipped them in his reelection, but insisted that his "political capital" all go towards SS reform (and given the way the DOW plummeted at the end of his term, it's probably just as well that failed).

I'm just saying that I wish he had put more energy into fighting the subprime practice.

113 Tinian, I think we're going to have to disagree on what qualifies as "do something."  Sounding the alarm is all well and good, but I don't see any point where he sat Congress down and said 'Look, we're not doing anything else until these subprime mortgages are stopped.'  Maybe it would have blown up as thoroughly as SS reform, but everyone would know that the housing bubble was largely a Dew creation rather than the situation now where folks think it makes sense to say 'Oh there's plenty of blame to go around.'

I agree Bush tried on the housing issue. I also agree he didn't try nearly hard enough. The wanting to be liked thing was probably part of it, but I also think he knew the Dems were so against him at that point, he didn't try nearly hard enough. More than likely he would have lost the battle, but won the war on words. Meh, water under the bridge, now.

Ann Coulter may have swayed some lefties her way last night insisting to Joy Behar that conservative women have more orgasms than liberals.

Behar, who was subbing for Larry King on his eponymous talk show, drilled the controversial political activist Coulter on a wide range of topics, including prodding her on why she says in her book Godless that conservative women reach climax more than liberals …

Behar: Is it because Republican women have more money and so they’re more relaxed, is that what it is?
(LAUGHTER)
BEHAR: Or they can afford better vibrators?
What?
COULTER: It’s because they take it more seriously.
BEHAR: Oh, they take it more seriously. I thought you were supposed to have more fun in bed?
COULTER: Yes. But you’re not supposed to be in bed constantly and with every Tom, Dick and Harry, including the guys with the electric cars.
