Hope And Change...US Silent About Defending Israel (And The Truth) At UN "Human Rights" Scam Conference

Remember the American and Israel hatefest known as UN World Conference Against Racism held in Durban in 2001? Even Colin Powell found it so noxious that he was forced to pull the US delegation out in disgust.

Well, like a disease that anti-biotics can treat but not cure, the usual cretins are back for more.

Unfortunately, so is the US. The Obama administration decided to participate in the preparatory meetings supposedly to help improve the final product. Alas, when push is coming to shove, they are acquiescing to evil by not speaking in favor of language about the Holocaust (surprise! Iran objected) or against efforts to single out Israel as a racist state (this was offered by some country called "Palestine" which I've never heard of).

As Anne Bayefsky writes at NRO

What is more visible is that the U.S. has little to gain for itself — or for global human rights — from participating. Under the consensus rule, many important suggestions have gone unadopted. A proposal to condemn human-rights violations based on sexual orientation ran into immediate objections from South Africa, Syria, Algeria, Iran, Botswana, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Morocco, Holy See, Libya, Egypt, and China. Pakistan said no to a provision that sought to make violence against women and children a criminal offence. Iran balked at a call for states to promote gender equality, and at a suggestion to ensure that the concept of multiculturalism is not used to infringe human rights.

U.S. strategy is evidently to announce the United States participated actively in the planning session, made proposals, and was given a warm welcome. Continuing efforts to improve the final result, it will be argued, are therefore warranted. The pace is sufficiently slow that this refrain will be repeated until it is so late in the day that walking out would cause a major diplomatic furor, which will in turn be used to justify attendance at the Conference itself. Obama’s hunger for engagement, in and of itself, is apparently his first priority. Israel is way down on the list and and American first principles are now subject to discussion.

There's much more at the link.

It's going to be a long 4 years.

Oh good God. Aside from the idiocy of promoting this type of Trutherism, it's also decidedly dumb.

There are millions of leftwing Democrats unquestionably born in the US (like Obama) who would do the same exact thing given the chance.

Remember a guy named Jimmy Carter? He was born in the decidedly American state of Georgia and he would probably be actively supporting this crap as opposed to just sitting there and letting it happen.

There are a lot of reasons to loathe Obama, please don't give the left an easy talking point about crazed conservatives.

DrewM why is the question of Obama's Amercianism such a bugaboo for you? He had his formative years in another country and had a father and step father who  were not American who was at best were neutral on America and at worst were America haters.  His mother was anti American.  His early year mentors were Anti American.  His living relatives are not American.  His teenage years were not on mainland America.  His college sponsors and friends were non American muslims.  You are the one that needs to let it go.

Also, just to point out, Obama hasn't been "unquestionably" born in the US. There is good reason (his grandmother's statements, conflicting accounts of his birth hospital, lack of any papers - including college transcripts - that show his birth place and nationality, the fact that he used an Indonesian passport when he was 19 to travel to a country that didn't allow US citizens) to question whether he was born in the US or whether he (through his mother's actions) renounced his citizenship. There is, in fact, less documentation proving he is a native-born American than there is circumstantial evidence that he isn't.

I'm not saying absolutely that he is foregin-born and/or a foreign national, though I think he might be. But the only evidence anyone has offered so far is, "Well, duh, of course he is." Color me unconvinced. In fact, it's that attitude alone that makes me think the other evidences are credible.

Posted by: Ella at February 19, 2009 06:10 PM (jeP9I)

12 Polynikes, the statement was:

"We now see playing out the reason the main qualification to be president is to be born here."

Obama was born here. Obviously that particular qualification doesn't solve the problem.

And I'm guessing that Mark Steyn would be far more pro-American in his actions, were he president, than American -born Barack Obama is, or American-born Jimmy Carter is.

Posted by: notropis at February 19, 2009 06:12 PM (bllfZ)

13 Not all of the pro-Obama Jews are agnostic toward Israel or hostile.  Many of my friends have been able to hold strong pro-Obama and strong pro-Israel views simultaneously.  But I intend to have some further words with them on the subject.  Well, with some of them, anyway, the ones I talk politics with.  Some of them have a tacit "shut up" agreement with me.

15 #9, I'm siding with you on this one. Even assuming he was born on Hawaiian soil, which I have seen no conclusive evidence to support, his upbringing was not that of an American. Therefore he's the perfect figurehead for the America-hating left.

I ask a lot of my Jewish friends why the hell they don't support the armed self-defense of the Jewish race and the State of Israel. I don't get a lot of answers.

To address a number of your points in one swoop, I don't hold people responsible for the beliefs of their parents. Do you?

Are you saying people who spend their teenage years in Hawaii are suspect Americans? Really?

Again, a lot of leftists have similar mentors in their youth. They are often called college professors.

If you want point out Obama's life is non-traditional, well, have it. I don't think that's exactly an item of contention. The issue is, what does it mean? Again, there are plenty of people who were born in all American neighborhoods with white picket fences and all the rest of the Normal Rockwell kit and yet are virulently anti-American.So where does that get us?

I think it's pretty clear that I have no love for Obama or his politics. What I object to is silly conspiracy theories that say Obama wasn't born in the US, a line of 'thought' promoted and made popular by noted Truther Jerome Corsi (whose latest is that the US government is building detention camps!11!!1!1). Personally, I'd prefer to deal with Obama's shortcomings on the merits without having to be lumped in with Truthers.

notropis I take almost everyone's comment here at the AOSHQ to contain a little bit of snark and sarcasm.  I'm sure that is what the commentor was doing in this instance.  The point is that Obama was never instilled with the American Way that people who are born and raised here are.  How they choose to accept it as adults will differ but whether it is to the left or right they have a common thread. Its somewhat esoteric but you know it when you see it. Obama doesn't have that thread.  His dissent seems to come from someone who sees America from outside looking in and not the other way around.

Anyway, anyone who dares questions Obama's americanism or place of birth always seems to get DrewM's wrath.

My entire life, I've been told that the military (US & Israel's, FFS) is evil and liberal institutions like the university, press and unions are the pinnacle of inspired thought and achievement.

I can't seem to get my point across that if taken to its logical conclusion, Bambi's multi-culti appeasement will be the cause of a 2nd Holocaust.  If I was young and fit enough to do it, I'd pick up a Galil or Tavor and help the IDF kick the crap out of the death-cultists.

49 JS, calling someone out for making a stupid, blanket racist statement like "Blacks are ruining this country..." isn't pedantic. Nor is pointing out that you are employing the same "we" and "they" mentality as the people you are claiming are ruining the country.

Now, pedantic might apply to someone who's still hanging onto some concern about the proper birth certificate for Obama, given that, since the electors voted, and since he took the oath (twice), he is the legitimate CIC, however wrong and destructive his policies might be.

And if he's to be stopped, or even slowed, it will only be by focussing on those policies.

And it probably won't be helped by profundities like "Blacks are ruining this country..."

My statement was not racist. It is based on crime stats, out of wedlock birth rates, affirmative action, set asides, welfare stats, drugs, etc. Please explain how these things, and more, are not ruining this country.

Notice I did not cite genetics as a reason. I do not believe that blacks are inferior or that whites are superior. That is racism. I do believe that their behavior, and their overt support for said bad behavior (go back a few titles and you'll find that Ace himself made this point) is inferior and is wildly destructive to our nation.

Pedantic applies to someone who is concerned about something that has never been settled? How so? Because you say so, because "well duh, of course he is!"? BS

People like you misuse the term racist. People like you think (correctly so) that a white man who belongs to a white separatist group is a racist, but a black man (Barry) who belongs to a black separatist group is not. That's your problem...

64 CoolCzech, I'm curious what he's so obsessed with hiding.  My comment was referring to the previous 'Hey, people will care about the BC once a nuke goes off here' post.  I don't see as a practical matter what difference it makes though.  If he's not a NBC, he should be immediately removed from office, regardless of the circumstances.  But who's going to remove him in that event?  Shame isn't going to make him leave (see Clinton, Bill).  This Congress won't do anything about it.  The courts have no power over anyone committed to ignoring them.  As much as we've discussed revolution, I feel safe assuming the military wouldn't do it.  His supporters and/or the media will make excuses.

Now his immensely popular economic policies might beat his support down to a level where his removal would be feasible, but by that point he'll be neutered anyway.  And it's not like Buden is that big of a step up.

I don't think anyone is holding Obama responsible for the beliefs of his parents, but it has been shown that a kid will hold a parent's view more often than not (politics and religion being the main area of study in this area).  Obama has shown through groups he has associated with in college (the ones we know about anyways) and speeches and talks he has given (also only ones we actually know about) that he has not broken away from those views.

69 slizzle, the SC might have something to say about it (I'm not sure I see 5 votes there to remove the first black President from office without massive daily demonstrations to sway their opinion).  And if enough of the American people turn on him, I think I'd rather keep him in place for the duration of his term (this isn't all going to happen tomorrow, after all) with a Congress too afraid (of us) to support his agenda, than have Biden doing his Gerald Ford impression.

And when I say 5 SC votes, I of course mean WTF will Kennedy do?

70 Methos, you'd be suprised how often my friends bring the BC issue up, my friend are minorities and dem leaning O supporter (former O supporters anyway)  Asking me if he was really born in Hawaii to which i respond, "the jury is still out on that one"   I thought it was resolved back in June until somebody explained to me what a COLB really is.  seems mad suspect to me.  I mean, if he flew to Pakistan when he was 21, in order to get a passport, dont you have to show a real BC?  Why didnt he just produce the one he showed to get that?  Unless it wasnt an American Passport.  I for one am not giving any elected Official the ben of the doubt, especially a shister like Obama, especially in this day and age of passing a trillion dollars and not even reading the bill.

71 well, if he's not eligible, he's not eligible, who knows how it would be handled, but i'm sure it wont be good either way.  If he's allowed to remain, talk about disenfranchisement on the one side of the isle for Dems nominating a man who they never vetted, lied about doing it, and say, oh well about it.  That would be a slap in the face to everyone who holds our freedoms and constitution dear to our hearts.  Men and women have died to protect that piece of paper, no just parts of it, but the whole damn thing.  Of course you'll have riots if hes outted, but i think it'd be worse if he's allowed to stay in.  I know i wouldnt stand for it, my dad and my friends have fought and died.  My dad was spat on when he came home from vietnam.  And if a party, the same party that spat on him, is allowed to trample on that piece of paper, there will be hell to pay.  just sayin

Fundies are Fundamentalist Liberals that believe things in contradiction to all knowledge and experience... they keep doing the same stupid policy moves over and over.

Obama is a Fundy.

Posted by: CoolCzech at February 19, 2009 08:29 PM (iafWn)

77 slizzle, I agree that he should be removed if the BC indicates that he's ineligible, I jst don't see it happening.

Dan-Fundamentalists (Christians), which is popularly interchangeable with Evangelicals.  The term comes from a book (The Fundamentals) that was produced around the turn of the last century to set in stone what basic set of beliefs were fundamental to being Christian (across denominations).  It was written in response to the liberal church's efforts to downplay the supernatural aspects of Christianity.  So to an honest Christian it basically means 'another honest Christian.'  To any liberal, it means 'not me,' and therefore is among the worst epithets imaginable.  It has since been applied to militant Islam by folks who think all 'religions' are equally bad and it's stuck.

'Fundamentalist' Muslims of course have no love for Israel (which I think is the source of your questions).  A lot of 'Fundamentalist' Christians see the modern state of Israel as the fulfillment of prophecy (Ezekiel's valley of very dry bones vision) on the shortening path to the end of time and Christ's return.  As that involves a massive invasion of the current state of Israel (for a battle to take place on the plain of Meggido), many Israelis don't like their interpretation.

Posted by: Methos at February 19, 2009 08:34 PM (BDHFy)

78 What pisses me off about the birth certificate thing is that this shouldn't even be a damned question. Liberals ALWAYS talk about "the Constitution" like it's Holy Scripture (even though their judges mangle it freely), but I'm sure most wouldn't even BE disturbed if it turned out he wasn't born a citizen. Hell, if we don't see the birth certificate: how do we know for sure he IS a citizen now, even?

I'm not saying he's not: but why even allow speculation like this to continue, by playing games with a stupid Birth Certificate?

And this is the administration that prides itself on "transparency."

I'd love to see that too but I can't see Netanyahu wasting his time.

If it were to happen, I visualize Obama and Netanyahu opposite each other, both seated in elegant wingback chairs with a fireplace or floral display as background. Two to three camera flashes are going off every second and then Obama addresses both the journalists and Netanyahu at the same time. At this point, Netanyahu stands up, curses Obama in Hebrew, spits on him and then walks out of the room.

That would make me tingly up my leg.

"Blacks are ruining this country" is about as self-evidently racist a statement as can be made, regardless of its level of truth or falsity.

How is it not racist to say "blacks are ruining this country?"

You are defining the alleged ruination of the country based solely on race, and nothing else. That would be, by definition, racist.

Rampant drug use? Dude!

Anti-social violence to "protest" when things seem bad? I'm down with it

Electing a racist POTUS, who is a muslim sympathizer, who befriends terrorists, and who feels our very constitution is in need of "fundamental" change, and who has such respect for the people of this country that he will not release his BC. All in the name of having to elect a black man, and nothing more? And then having his AG declare us racist anyway?
