| Obama-Harper Press Conference In Canada UPDATE: Obama Doesn't Know Where He IsJust wrapping up on all the cable networks. No word yet on whether or not Obama's first appearance in a foreign country as President has led to that country asking for admittance to the union. Stand by for a rundown. Oy.The newness is showing - the president began his remarks with, "It's a great pleasure to be here in Iowa - Ottawa."But as silly school girl Kathleen Parker tells us, Obama is preternaturally calm and unflappable. Since he never gets nervous, one can only surmise he's an idiot (at least that's how Bush would be portrayed). (Thanks to Robert_Paulson in the comments for the link). Ummm...Obama just thanked the Canadians who came to the US to campaign for him. How many donated money to the cause Barack? Jebus what an idiot. (see the 3:31 entry from the White House liveblog) Shocker! As of 4:17est the AP story on the press conference doesn't mention the Iowa/Ottawa gaffe. To paraphrase Chief Brody, you're gonna need a bigger memory hole. For the record, I don't think it's a big or even little deal. It's just the clear double standard I find so amusing/annoying. Maybe they need a bailout.

Boy, Obama really does RAMBLE! He was asked a question about border crossings and the *Canadian* stimulus legislation, and he's fluthering around about the automakers bailout and God knows what. He doesn't know when to end a sentence. No wonder the Dow fell another 30 points during this press conference.
Harper sure held his feet to the fire regarding NAFTA, though. Pretty much "We've got a deal, and we expect the Americans to live up to their word." Posted by: Dr Mabuse at February 19, 2009 03:25 PM (AVYqB) Posted by: Darling at February 19, 2009 03:27 PM (ly8mn) 7

Sometimes it's hard for a smooth, sophicated and dreamy young stud like Barack to tell the difference between one group of white people from another. He still thinks Rahm Emmanuel is George Stephanopolis.

I couldn't believe that gauche reference to people coming down from Canada to work on his campaign. Dude, you're the President of the United States! Haven't you gotten over the buzz of the campaign yet? Everyone else has forgotten all about it, but he talks as if it were the highpoint of his life, which it probably was.

And yes, the Prime Minister looked a hundred times more the statesman than Obama did. Nothing BO said came close to the direct and sincere way Harper said that an attack on U.S. security is an attack on OUR security, and we are as determined to keep terrorism from penetrating through our border into the U.S. as the Americans ever could be. It was real and genuine, and as a result, he was able to say it in about 30 seconds. And after that, Obama decided to have a SECOND try at the same question, which he'd just (supposedly) answered before Harper. Still couldn't say anything to the point, and rambled into that comment about the campaign and the cold weather. Yeah, it's cold in Canada, mate. You got that right.

Our media have been blowing him the same as yours for the past year, too, (for the same reason as yours). And including e.g. stories about Obama-mania and how polling of Canadians show he'd be a more popular choice to run Canada than any of our federal party leaders etc. So there are alot of morons (the bad kind of moron, that is) here just like with you guys. My only hope is that our anti-American media will have their irrational, leftist hate for the U.S. beat out their pro-affirmative action, p.c. views and allow them to criticize Obama to at least get some people here opening their eyes about the guy. But it hasn't happened yet, in fact, the liberal-Liberal Party rag, the Toronto Star, that's never met an non-leftist American it hasn't called a fascist, had the latest "Obama with halo" photo from a few weeks ago and the Hawaii beach photos above-the-fold in colour. But there has been some wait-and-see re. NAFTA and the buy-American clauses in the Spendulus. I won't be reporting much on this unless I see something worthwhile from a conservative source, as I can't stomach the fellatio just like you guys re. MSNBC etc. can't. I will keep an eye out for anything re. the Iowa/Ottawa flub though. Still, I won't expect any "Bush and the Chinese door" level of coverage of it. I'd take Biden over The One any day. Biden doesn't have a cult of personality that can call on to gin up support for his half baked ideas. We'd get four years of gridlock, which would suit me just fine. Posted by: Farmer_Joe at February 19, 2009 03:50 PM (z4es9) 33
I'd like to know if those press questions were unscripted, or if the reporters were chosen in advance? It seemed more like a "real" press conference than the one in Washington last week, where everything was staged. Nobody was trying to "get" Obama, but some of the questions sounded a little close to hardball - the guy who questioned him about the Buy America provisions in the stinkulous bill (which Obama has taken to calling "the recovery" bill).

The parallels between Obama and Pierre Elliott Trudeau are clear: charismatic academic who is youthful, full of energy and also a bullshit socialist of the highest order. For both, the prescription for every problem is more bureaucracy and government spending. The private sector is allowed to exist only to feed the ravenous beast of government. Crony capitalism? You betcha. Also, foreign policy means only diplomacy and no acting in the national interest (you don't need armed forces other than to act as peacekeepers). Obama is loved by the democratic socialists in Canada. He is rockstar jesus to them like Clinton because he means embracing their insane serf policies. "Cool" is what you try to be when you have nothing else going for you.
When you have no accomplishments or skill or brains, it's easy to pretend those things don't matter. "Cool" is what teenagers use to show us how little those things mean to them. But, you see, BO is the president, so almost everything he does matters. That's why he needs to be focussed, disciplined, and open-minded, not "cool". It's just another example of his amateurness and unreadiness to lead. Instead of leaning the job and how to lead from it, he just wants to be cool. Don't believe everything the press tells you about the "cheering crowds". The only stretch of road anyone could assemble on was Bronson St., and the webcams showed a scanty collection, probably all from Carleton University across the street. On Parliament Hill, they said on the news "a small crowd of about 1,000 people" were assembled, and that's not much for that space. If he went to a "market" downtown, he must have felt like a real fool; the only one is the Byward Market, and that's a seasonal market. It's picturesque in the summer, but at this time of year, all there is to buy is firewood and last year's maple syrup, and there sure aren't many people hanging around it on a Thursday afternoon. But it is behind the American Embassy, so maybe some staff came over to make the photos look good.

"This is fun for the press to try to stir up whatever quotes were generated during the course of the campaign," President Obama said during his Transition in early December, when a reporter asked him about criticisms he and now-Secretary of State Clinton had made about each other's foreign policy views. - from Jack Tapper's Political Punch blog I'm not faulting it, but I am cooly belittling it and making it seem like little more than an irrelevant distraction, instead of you legitimately trying to hold me to campaign stances that I used to get into office. Hopefully, you will quit trying to distract me by bring up things I have already said instead of listening to what I am saying now. Let's be clear on this. Iowa is in Canada? That's some heady change, that is.
The world has become surreal. If you look at the web and find real news, other than what's on Yahoo's or AOL's home page, you see what an inebriated, toffee-nosed amateur we have for President. But if you listen to ordinary news radio (not talk) or watch any of the alphabet networks' news shows, you would think the second coming of the Lord is wandering around the West Wing. If Waffles shows up on stage, wearing his shoes on the wrong feet, Speedo swim trunks and a ladies cardigan, you will literally not see a thing about it on regular MSM TV. They will excerpt the audio and hide the pictures. If Waffles starts speaking in tongues and reciting Mother Goose, you will not hear it on MSM, but they will issue transcripts and show his pretty picture. The gap between what is true and what is broadcast has never been greater. I don't understand how even the 52% can fail to see it. But that's religious devotion for ya. For the record, I don't think it's a big or even little deal. It's just the clear double standard I find so amusing/annoying
There's a reason it's more than a little peccadillo. What the POTUS says, especially about the economy at this point, has a real, nontrivial effect on the markets. Our Little Savior has been preaching gloom and doom, lying about the severity of certain issues while fearmongering others. This is killing us, the tens of millions of us who were stupid enough to invest in 401(k)s when this nation was fully capable of electing a crypto-fascist, ready to run the economy into the ground... so a "strong man" can come along and assert control. That the MSM refuses to report his verbal gaffes is mirrored in their refusal to report his verbal lies. Both refusals are differing sides of the same coin. From Fox News: One month into Obama's term 60 percent of Americans approve of the job he is doing as president, down from 65 percent three weeks ago (27-28 January 2009). Views of Obama as a person have also dipped. Today 68 percent have a favorable opinion of him and 25 percent unfavorable. Last month Obama had his highest favorable rating to date when 76 percent of Americans said they had a positive opinion and 15 percent unfavorable (13-14 Jan 2009). Here again, most of the change in Obama's favorable rating comes from Republicans and a smaller change among independents. Posted by: TheQuietMan at February 19, 2009 08:22 PM (oKHcn) 169

Before W, I was staunchly independent. I even voted for Ross Perot. Probably the most troubling aspect of his presidency was his blurring of the lines between church and state. Damn. GW Bush is gonna run for president again in 2010? stop giving morons a bad name, you dumbass Oh, and Bush is lucky that he's being followed by Obama. McCain or Hillary would have done a much better job than W did, and it would have made him look worse by comparison....and he did badly enough. I clearly remember both Carter and Clinton. The economy after Carter was admittedly bad. However, I would argue that the mess left after the Bush administration makes that look like a walk in the park. With respect to Clinton, beyond his getting a BJ in the Oval Office, what real harm did the man do? I would take his record next to W's and be proud. Though I do believe that he caved to Gingrich and his ilk far too often.

Carter's economy was in much worse shape - very high interest rates and inflation, stagnant economy. Today's economy is being hyped as worse than it is so Obama can shove this porkulus up our asses.
Clinton projected weakness and frivolity to the world and was ineffective fighting the increasing attacks from radical islam. Led to some problems for us back in '01. Posted by: the real joe at February 19, 2009 10:46 PM (udP/u) 194

But at least Biden, misguided and venal dumbass that he is, is an American dumbass. He was born and bred in these United States, and took in, like mother's milk, a basic loyalty toward this country, a core affinity for America herself. ....Unlike this half-Kenyan, full-commie, Muslim-Indonesia-raised traitor who addled his young brain with pot and cocaine and the fellowship of Bill Ayers, and addled his adult (well, using the term loosely) brain with 20 years of Rev. Wright rantings against Jews, white people, Amerikkka, capitalism, Western civilization.... Plus, even though Biden's an accomplished liar, sometimes he tells the truth--and when he does, boy, does he! (ref. If for no other reason than his stupid adventure in Iraq, W will always be regarded as one of our worst presidents.
In 1952, Truman's approval ratings were lower than Bush's. Today, Truman is fairly well regarded. Just as Truman benefited from the perspective of decades, so will Bush. Clinton is the only president in recent times who's approval increased from inauguration day to when he left office. Eisenhower was the only president who's approvals never dropped below 50% during his time in office. I don't see Obama being able to do that. Carter's econonmy worse!? Haven't you been paying attention to anything? Have you not noticed the new claims for unemployment - 620,000+ in the latest report? Banks not lending. Consumer confidence in the tank. We are a consumer driven economy, because we've incentivized outsourcing and we no longer have a strong manufacturing base. When consumers don't have money, who will be fueling our economy? The government must step in to jump start the economy. Otherwise, we crash hard. The stimulus can, at best, just soften the landing.

Define pro-life. Does that only apply to embryos or does that also apply to all that have travelled through the birth canal? It seems to me that the majority of pro-lifers only believe in protecting embryos and not those already born. What is your position on embryonic stem cell research. Is that also murder? Is the day after pill also murder? What about women who ride bicycles after conception? Is it murder when that activity causes a termination of pregnancy? How do you feel about the death penalty? Should we put people to death at the same time that DNA testing is proving many of those sentenced to this penalty were innocent? Don't misunderstand me, I believe that those convicted of capital crimes should receive harsh punishment. I just belive that life without parole is far worse than the death penalty. Also, too many people like to argue that Obama wants to take away their guns. Show me the evidence of this. I'm a vet and own guns. I have no fear that he wants to take away my guns. No, I am not naive. I do, however, believe that such things as gun shows need more regulation to ensure that wackos cannot purchase a armory over a weekend. Call me crazy. Last, I agree with Obama when he says that we should not question whether government is too large, but whether it is working or not. Posted by: proudlib at February 19, 2009 11:17 PM (bL0Q9) 203

The guy who was offered a captured Osama bin Laden by Sudan and passed on the offer? The guy who helped turn Bosnia into a training ground for al-Qaeda terrorists? The guy who made oral sex so ho-hum that we now have an epidemic among teenagers of AIDS and other STDs, transmitted orally? The guy who made embezzlement (Whitewater), illegal searches (FileGate), and perjury ACCEPTABLE? The guy who shut down one whole avenue of investigation (the lead involving an Iraqi cell, imagine that!) in the Oklahoma City bombing investigation almost immediately, without giving any reason? The guy who critically weakened our intelligence services? The guy who let al-Qaeda repeatedly declare war on us (accompanied by actions such as the '93 WTC bombing, the African embassy bombings and the USS Cole bombing) without doing anything in response, thereby emboldening the enemy and escalating their war on us? Please spare us the tired old canard about pro-lifers not caring about anyone already born. That's as old as the hills and demonstrably false. You obviously don't know personally any of the good, caring, generous pro-lifers that I do. The people who work without pay at crisis pregnancy centers, helping babies both born and unborn, and also taking in and counseling and helping heal women who have had abortions and are emotional wrecks as a consequence. I know such individuals. You should hear the stories they have to tell. Yes, the day-after pill can be abortifacient--as is true of any hormonal contraception, including the common birth-control Pill. If you read the manufacturer's booklet, you can see it for yourself in black and white. The Pill allows, in up to 10 percent of monthly cycles, "breakthrough ovulation." In these cases, if intercourse happens at the time of ovulation, and there is fertilization, another facet of the Pill comes into play: the Pill alters the uterine lining so that the embryo cannot implant, and thus dies, and passes out of the body without the woman ever even knowing she was pregnant. It's not "murder," because murder involves deliberate, malicious intent. But, regardless of whether anyone's conscious of it or not, a human life has ended. Whether deliberately or not, the objective fact is that a very young human being has been killed. Most people don't know about this because most doctors either don't know it themselves (they've never actually read the manufacturer's booklet) or they don't want to "burden" the pretty little heads of their female patients with "too much information." Patronizing bastards. As to Obama and guns, all I have to go on is his record. In Illinois, he voted in favor of every single gun ban and restrictive gun law that was introduced--including a TOTAL BAN on handguns---which would leave women like me completely at the mercy of rapists and murderers bigger and stronger than us. I hope I NEVER EVER EVER am put in the situation, but if some thug tries to snuff me, I firmly believe I have the right to blow him away. Re: your last point, a bloated, supersize government BY DEFINITION is a government that doesn't work. And I've got the Founding Fathers to back me up on that. toby928 213 Not sure why you laughed out loud. Religion has no place in government. Christianity is just as dangerous as Islam in government (see Iran). Our founding fathers understood this. That is why you will find no reference to God in our Constitution. Furthermore, the words "As the government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian Religion..." were written into the Treaty of Tripoli during Washington's second term, ratified by a unanimous senate, and later signed by John Adams. This country was founded based on religous freedom. W did not understand this. Posted by: proudlib at February 20, 2009 05:42 PM (bL0Q9) 217
A Lock of Che Guevara's Chest Hair @210 What? Because I don't buy the GOP's propaganda, I am somehow a traitor? Can one no longer have non-nationalistic thoughts without being labeled a traitor? Teddy Roosevelt (R) once said "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, right or wrong - is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." I would argue that this also applies to the government as a whole, to include Republican administrations and Republican controlled Congress, as was the case for 6 years under W. I believe that I am exercising my patriotic duty to criticize the Republicans when they are wrong. Just as I do the Democrats. I just happen to agree with the Democrats more often. Not sure why you laughed out loud.
I laugh, well, chuckle really, because of your typically liberal aversion to definition. How, exactly, did Bush entangle our government in religion? Do we have a state religion now? Are you being taxed to support the church? Mandatory attendance? Do you have any arguments beyond vague hand waving and ominous buzzing from the hive mind of independent thinkers? I personally have heard of several Canadian's who worked on Obama's campaign. Where is the complete and utter outrage at this? As a Canadian - I would be very upset if I found out that Americans were coming north to meddle in our elections. It's not that they shouldn't have an opinion, or that they shouldn't care - but if you're not Canadian, you have no right to influence our free and democratic process. The reverse is also true - Canadians had no business trying to influence the American elections.

Players are always fighting in Runescape. ItТs one of the reasons the game is so popular, being able to go to another world, attack monsters, and take their treasure . ItТs adventure. ItТs excitement. ItТs fun. Especially through outstanding account.
And one of the best parts about combat (melee combat) is that it is by far the cheapest of all three combat methods.Ranging costs buy runescape gold because it requires the use of arrows. Magic costs even more because it requires lots and lots of runes. But melee combat is relatively cheap. The only and runescape money for sale you must spend is on your weapons and armor. Once you buy those things, you donТt have to keep buying more and more stuff to keep fighting. As you gain levels in Runescape, you will be able to buy better and better equipment. The better you get, the better the weapons and armor you can use, which makes you better able to keep your buy runescape accounts leveling-up. And while we are getting the basics out of the way, letТs take a second to learn about the world of Runescape. Or rather, the worlds. Posted by: jack at June 12, 2009 12:37 AM (ERKZM) 225
