House Democrats Embrace Pork-Bloated Monstrosity
Bumped and Updated

100_dollar_bill_fire_hc.gif

House passes stimulus package...without a single Republican vote. Seven Democrats also voted against it.

Final tally: 246-183, with 1 Democrat voting present.

Here's the roll call.

Democrats who voted against:
Bobby Bright, Alabama
Peter DeFazio, Oregon
Parker Griffith, Alabama
Walt Minnick, Idaho
Collin Peterson, Minnesota
Heath Shuler, North Carolina
Gene Taylor, Mississippi

So Who Voted Present? This guy - Daniel Lipinski of Illinois. Based on the links in his "current issues" feed and this press release, I'm guessing he didn't like the removal of the "buy American" provision.

Gallows Humor, Anyone? - Considering what day it is, an appropriately-themed photoshop is in order:

The author of this piece of shit is corrupt Florida Congressman Alcee Hastings (D-Impeached).

I've tried e-mailing Ace about this several times now, and can't get through.

Couple this legislation with their Blair Holt Firearms Licensing Act, and it's pretty easy to see where we're headed.

Begala blamed the republicans for denying the recession and obstructing and delaying this bill

In the comments section the moonbats were going crazy.  One even said that all the republicans that vote no on this bill should be guilty of treason.  That is pretty consistent with the democrat form of democracy; everybody gets an oppinion/vote as long as it is the same as our oppinion.

Not one of them acknowledged that the democrats don't need a single fucking republican vote to pass porkulous.

BTW: the republicans that Begala noted as deniers were congressional and senatorial heavy hitters Bill O'Reily and Karl Rove.  I also belive the quotes he used from them were from June.

From bloomberg.com:

The 1,400-page stimulus plan would provide a half-trillion dollars for jobless benefits, renewable energy projects, highway construction, food stamps, broadband, Pell college tuition grants, high-speed rail projects and scores of other programs. It would raise the nation’s debt limit to about $12 trillion.

Democrats released the text of the plan late last night, prompting complaints from Republicans they didn’t have enough time to review the legislation before voting on it.

“Not one member has read this,” said House Minority Leader John Boehner, an Ohio Republican.

I have to agree that the Republicans are being specific enough in their oppostion. Saying it's "Too big" is not good enough. Saying "it might no be much help or create many jobs" is not good enough.

They need to say, in no uncertain terms, that this bill is going to cost million of jobs in the private sector and make this recession into a depression, because that's what it's gonna do.

The influx of all this cash will give a short, false bump in the economy and then it's all going to fall apart -- energy prices, layoffs, inflation, interest rates, etc.

(CNSNews.com) – Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) predicted on Thursday that none of his Senate colleagues would "have the chance" to read the entire final version of the $790-billion stimulus bill before the bill comes up for a final vote in Congress.

“No, I don’t think anyone will have the chance to [read the entire bill],” Lautenberg told CNSNews.com.

Read the entire bill? The Dims won't even get past page 1.

But seriously, notice how poor Obama has to suffer from vicious obstructism by his opponents, while GWB always had the honor of being opposed by that most honorable of motives, principled dissent!  Funny how that happens.

Dear Mr. DeFazio,

As you are my representative (that I have never voted for) I am pleased to see that you voted no on this obscene insult to the American people.  Since I have witnessed your voting record in the past, I am quite certain that you voted against it for all the wrong reasons.  Still you voted NO and that is good enough for me.

Instead of my weekly tradition of telling you to "Go Fuck Yourself", I have temporarily upgraded your status and my new message is "Thanks for not Fucking Up too bad this week"

Regards,

P.S.:  Thanks again for that stupid fucking $17 million dollar pedestrian bridge across I-5 to the Gateway Mall that no-one ever uses. It goes nicely with your collection of other stupid fucking pedestrian bridges and bike paths that nobody ever uses.

And the spin on the down market is:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks retreated in wobbly trading Friday as investors itched for more specifics on how the U.S. government will prop up the slumping housing market and fractured financial system.

So that's the problem with the market. Itchy investors.

I know I've said this before many times and I'm sure some people are getting tired of it, but we need to do all we can to cause Obama's plans to fail. For those of you who say this is wanting the country to fail all I have to say is the Dems and Obama are not the country.

First switch to cash only, cut up any credit cards and go with an envelope system. It works people. If you have any big purchases coming up start setting aside cash for them.

Try and find friends who have skills you need and trade work or pay them in cash. Find a nieghbor who knows plumbing or is an electrician, you would be suprised how much you can save doing it this way as opposed to having a company guy come in and do it.

Stay home. Seriously don't go out, have house parties or visit friends. You would be suprised how much fun you can have with a twelve pack of beer and a  board game. Don't go to the movies. They hate us any way why give them money. Read a book.

If we on the right pull out of the economy as much as possible the Dems plans will fail all that much sooner. They depend on us busting our butts to make their plans work. If we don't this will fall apart.

If you look at it over 50% of the home loans that have been redone are already in forclosure again. The vast majority of people on their side will only take from the system they will not contribute so if we stop the whole thing will come crashing down.

This time, all Republican and 7 Democratic Representatives voted "no". This is an interesting change.

My guess is that the 3 Republican Senators and possibly 1 or 2 Democratic Senators are now having second thoughts about spending $800bilion (that does not exist), particularly in light of the stated intention to spend even more later.

I bet that more than a few Representatives and Senators are starting to (finally) question the financial wisdom of spending this titanic amount of money, and at the order (no reasoning / facts, just orders) of a man who’s already spent $190million and failed to achieve anything.

Anyone giving odds that the Spendulus fails to pass the Senate?

"First switch to cash only, cut up any credit cards and go with an envelope system. It works people. If you have any big purchases coming up start setting aside cash for them."

This is about a right as rain – I can tell you personally that a cash based household budget does work and will save you a fortune over the long run. Another thing not mentioned was to aggressively de-leverage as fast as possible (i.e. all consumer debt, save home mortgage) and put together about 3-6 mos. of living expenses for an emergency. I don’t know if the above will affect the macro economy but what it will do is allow the your household to weather fluctuations (or crashes) in the macro economy.

133 Lipinski would have been better served to have voted NO. But he didn't and Pelosi will exact her revenge regardless.

Lipinski's is right on point about "buy American". There is a California State project that has CHINESE steel in it. Worse yet the imported steel was welded in China and the CHINESE welds are shit. Much coverupperage is ensuing after the whistleblowage. Now we already had the same scenario in regards to cassion work on domestic welds in the Bay bridge project. But when you are dealing with a entity an ocean away you are dealing at a disadvantage out of the gate.

Regardless of party though, under the flag of "fair trade" American jobs have been eviserated. This will handicap efforts to re-build the economy when materials spending flows overseas. I know the argument is that EVENTUALLY dollars have to be repatriated over here but we have 2 out of 3 printed dollars untaxed being used as nominal currency in foriegn lands. The globalization strategy isn't working isn't working for the American middle class. Evidence? Wage jobs pay has remained essentially flat for the past 9 years.

WASHINGTON – Handing the new administration a big win, House Democrats passed President Barack Obama's $787 billion plan to resuscitate the economy on Friday despite a wall of Republican opposition.

Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., who withdrew his nomination to be Obama's Commerce secretary, said he would vote against the bill.

148 A 'saved' job is the number of jobs needed to get the number of jobs created/saved by this bill up to the 4 million figure used by Obama.  So when, for example, this bill kills 5 million jobs, there will be 9 million 'saved' jobs counted to bring the number up to the expected level.

Reminder:  While I do not believe this monstrosity will work--IF it does not, we have no more bullets, folks.  The inflation this thing will cause will force interest rates up at the worst possible moment.  Debt holders are likely to put a steady stream of T-bills on the market to stay ahead of the dollars drop, thereby exacerbating what will become a vicious cycle.

We ould have been much better off in the long run doing absolutely nothing AND letting the weak banks fail.  Now we'll have inflation, a still non-sensical energy policy, wobbly banks and institutions/individuals that will expect the governmetn to step in, no matter what.  What happens when the government cannot do so?

Part and parcel of the Second American Revolution, after the Great Collapse, was a renewed national spirit. That "can do" atttitude, once prevalent during the 20th century, but widely derided by those who later were uncovered as domstic enemies, came out from hiding. From the ashes of the Worldwide Trade War (2010-2014) was borne the seeds of the greatest time of human affluence and prosperity that we continue to enjoy to this day.

Yeah. attending a dead person's funeral is so much more important than the most important vote you will ever make...than spending more in one single bill than we have spent in 232 years.

Dead people are rolling over in their graves right now...President's Day what a joke.

194 I dunno, am feeling so pessimistic these days..The voting public is still 1) really stupid or 2) really don't care or 3) head over heels in love with Obama and I fear that as bad as things may be in 2010, they will still vote the Dems back in. Unless Obama gets caught in some sort of real nasty scandal. Sigh, maybe I jued need to get out of southern CA, all these cars with their Obama/Biden stickers on os giving me a severe case of road rage.

How come spending money a lot more money than I have doesn't work for me, but for the federal government it's sound fiscal policy?  Should I borrow a huge amount of money and then spend it as fast as I can?

Since the Democrats are out to wreck America to soften it up for extreme socialism, their reckless spending is sound policy for them.  Too bad for the rest of us.

Don't bring your fucking "facts" and "economics" and "analysis" into this thing.  Whatcha tryin' to do?  Bring down the Republic?  This carefully crafted, balanced, and thoughtful stimulus bill will create or save 4 million jobs!!  These are workers with children!!  DO YOU FUCKING HATE CHILDREN, ASSHOLE?!?!?!1111!!!!111!!1111

The hand gun bill, the fairness doctrine, hell-even the repeal to the 22nd ammendment to remove presidential term limits can and will all pass. this vote proves it, there is no voice of reason that is in control. That is terrifying

With this turd, Zero has just garaunteed himself a fillibuster proof voting majority-thats what its intended purpose was. More people working for the government, more getting welfare, unemployment and health care. Coupled with the union, ACORN and Green industry votes it is a garauntee that Zero will become dictator. No one is going to vote against their meal ticket in any election. And yes, there is legislation to repeal presidential term limit. While it has been introduced over and over and died in the past, it's because niether party had enough power in all branches to get it to pass. Coimncidentally now they do as well as having pending legislation to remove term limits. Overwhelming majority in House and all they need is 3 squishies in the senate. These 3 squishies didn't give a shit that their vote would cripple this country, they sure won't give a shit bringing a dictator to power. if you don't think it's possible or it's not coming, think again. Who ever thought this dooms day stimulus would pass? That is the plan that has been set in motion now, but people won't realize it until its the 11th hour and Zero is supreme dictator presiding over a 3rd world econmy America

d) the silencing of conservative talk radio

and

e) the complete elimination of our 2nd Amendment rights.

Everything you mentioned has a good chance at passing.  Repealing the 22nd amendment will be extremely difficult based on all the hurdles required to do that.

The interesting thing with the permanent majority is that it will require producers to keep the majority intact.  Right now there is the incentive of money, take that away and actually penalize it and where do you get the money.  Its not even like the US has the money to float loans for awhile to keep up the farce.  The house of cards could tumble quick.  Its just a matter if the new minority of producers will stand up and say NO.  That will be the real interesting story of the next 2-8 years.

292 If you want to quote Two Towers, use Samwise...

I know. It's all wrong. By rights, we shouldn't even be here. But we are... It's like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was, when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing - this shadow... even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those are the stories that stayed with you... That meant something... Even if you were too small to understand why... But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holding onto something. (What are we holding onto, Sam?) That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And its worth fighting for.

Difficult hurdles? Are they more difficult than everything that happened for this criminal act they just passed? People have been melting the phones screaming at their reps and being ignored. Pelosi, Reid, Shumer etc. all blatantly insulting we the chattering voters. Kerry and his ilk telliung us we don't know better but they do know better how to use our money. All Dems in Washignton being Marie Antoinette, Zero using such over the top fear mongering, it's cartoonish. Zero lying through his teeth. And all politicians having 10 hours to read 1400 pages and many admitting on camera they didnt even read it before voting for it!!This thing was loaded with 40 years of pork bills and we all knew. This was not something that was completely unknown. Republicans held the line and STILL this atomic bomb passed.

311 Jody,

2/3 passage of both house and ratification by 3/4 of the states.  That is a huge hurdle.  Not impossible, but a lot more than 1/2 of the house and 3/5 of the senate.

I think you would need 38 states to pass the amendment if my math is correct.  There are still 13 deep red states out there.  Assuming Franking wins they need 8 republicans to cross in the senate and 38 in the house.  I don't see the votes in the next two years.  If the dems steal 2010, then we can revisit the math.

While that would be karma and irony at its best, I still don't like the idea of even a Republican Conservative president serving more than 2 terms (even Reagan).  Power will corrupt the best of the leaders.

329 315 What Companies are Conservative? We should list and support the hell out of 'em.

Very few.  Big business loves big government.  It is an undeniable fact.  Big businesses have already achieved dominance... thus they turn to seek out permanence.  It is why many big businesses liked FDR.  Why they really like the ChiComms.  Why they liked Mussolini and Hitler.  It totally fucks their competition and establishing permanence through government keeps them from having to compete, cut costs, and innovate.

Posted by: A.G. at February 13, 2009 08:05 PM (JoIvi)

330 #329, bingo, its a lie that big business like small government.  Big businesses don't mind regulations because that cements their position of market share.  Its the medium to small businesses (and consequently consumers and taxpayers) that get killed by this stuff.

340 The RNC and DNC are impotent when it comes to policy.  Always been that way.  In all honesty do you want the best ideas coming from national Republicans, think about that?

Its all about local.  We have to start local.  We need good men and women in local positions.  Take back our schools and our local press.  That will eventually bubble up to the county and state level and then the national politicians will steal all the good ideas that the Conservatives governors tried like they did in 1994.  We can't win the inner cities yet, but you can be damn sure that you can get a Conservative school board in the suburbs and red states that can force a lot of the liberal BS right out of the schools.

They'd open up on you. Look what was done to the bonus army in '32 (from: wikipedia)

On 28 July, 1932, Attorney General Mitchell ordered the police evacuation of the Bonus Army veterans, who resisted; the police shot at them, and killed two. When told of the killings, President Hoover ordered the U.S. Army to effect the evacuation of the Bonus Army from Washington, D.C.

At 4:45 p.m., commanded by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, supported by six battle tanks commanded by Maj. George S. Patton, Fort Myer, Virginia, formed in Pennsylvania Avenue while thousands of Civil Service employees left work to line the street and watch the U.S. Army attack its own veterans. The Bonus Marchers, believing the display was in their honour, cheered the troops until Maj. Patton charged the cavalry against them — Hundreds of veterans were injured, several were killed; a veteran's wife miscarried; and many other veterans were hurt.

The Posse Comitatus Act — forbidding civilian police work by the U.S. military — did not apply to Washington, D.C., because it is the federal district directly governed by the U.S. Congress.
