How Are You Going to Spend Your $13/Week?

Millions of working families can breathe easy now.

That extra $13 a week in my paycheck is going to make a huge difference in my standard of living. Think about the possibilities - I can turn the thermostat up to Oval Office temperatures, go out to eat at Quiznos instead of Subway...heck, I might even switch from domestic beer to import. Oh, I feel faint...

Seriously, though...this is it? This is the tax cut 95% of us were promised? An increase that won't even cover the loss of revenue we're going to face when the Bush tax cuts are repealed?

The Anchoress reminds us of the reaction to the $600 stimulus rebate check from the now-First Lady. Sure, a $600 check wasn't much, but $13 bucks a week isn't going to do much to pay down "every bill every month," either, especially since her husband's policies are sure to increase energy costs and the price of food.

And eventually, we're going to have to pay for this.

Supposedly, employers will decrease withholding by $13/wk per FNS this morning. It doesn�t apply to me, or to a lot of the morons here though, because we have no �withholdings�. I file quarterly payments for which this will barely show up.

And after 2010 it will be all gone and taxes will go up. Right now I am in the 15% category under Bush but when the One gets done I expect to be in the 30% and I don�t make much of anything (retired and living off of dividends).

Of course it could be that I will be flat broke at the end of 2010 because all my stocks and bonds become worthless, my savings in BOA is gone because they go bankrupt, and I have to get a job greeting people at Wal Mart which will then go out of business.

The I will be eligible for that government job sweeping the floor at Gum�s and holding the door open for the party bosses when the exit their Zil�s.

Family of four, working couple: Bush=$1800, Lightbringer= $800

This plan not only does not help Michelle's children, it completely neglects them (with the exception of passing on 1.2 trillion plus in debt to them and their children).

Then you have the cos. Bush's 150 billion: Obama and Michelle say too much investment for too little return. Obama's 1 trillion, a package that is the right size with the right scope.

How dare Bush spend 10% of Obama's plan with a far greater return to taxpayers!

The average public sector union asshole on the state dole STARTS at $38 an hour for someone who never went to a real trade school or university. And the pols wonder why half the personnel costs are going out to people who no longer work for the state. If I understand the spendulous correctly, I would get about $13 a week in deductions and it technically would increase my income by that amount. But I got $600 up front from the Bush rebate as a result of my previous years income. In other words, the current plan is like "pay it forward." At first, I didn't see any essential difference. Now I think I do. The year prior to the $600 rebate I was working at a job that paid me a good income. So I got $600, and the next year I got a full tax refund for my payroll overpayments--a net gain of $600. As of December 31, 2008, my employment ended when my company closed all its Mainland operations. I get nothing in the "stimulus" program like the $600 reward that I previously got for paying my taxes the prior year. Today I am living on unemployment (taxable) that pays far less than half of what I was previously earning. So even if I allow the state to take the maximum 10% for taxes out of my current "income," I will get about $0.75 in "tax benefits" next year when I file. But I won't do that because I can barely survive on the unemployment income with taxes not being taken out. So that means I get $0 back. And I won't get a $600 rebate at all. In summary, if I'm right, I got a fairly substantial tax cut, plus $600 for my prior tax year under the Bush incentive during a minor downturn in the economy. Under the Obama plan, I get something between diddly and zero tax benefit since I'm unemployed, and no rebate at all during a major financial crisis. I'll take the Bush plan. At least under that plan my current unemployment status would produce little or no money of any kind for me over the year because I'm not earning any money to pay taxes on, but I would have gotten the $600 based on my prior year's income. And since two to three million others may be joining me on the unemployment line, thereby reducing federal revenue from payroll taxes, it seems to me that the so-called tax cut will immediately have to be made up for by a hefty tax increase within a year's time. One just has to wonder. The President, prior to the election, stated that energy independence is the highest priority. Why didn't this money get strictly targeted to a new generation of nuclear energy? Hyperion and Toshiba are working on building portable nuclear power plants that are cheap and modular. The Hyperion prototypes are the size of a jacuzzi and can supply power for five to seven years to 20,000 households at an expense of $250 per household over the life of the generator. A national commitment to this type of technology (cheap, redundant arrays of nuclear reactors) would have achieved the following:

1). Provided a true investment of infrastructure and lots of jobs all over the country.

2.) Would have been a true stimulus multiplier since the money spent would have gone a long way to providing support for an enhanced electrical grid which would have dovetailed with the efforts in Detroit to build electric cars.

3.) Would have improved our balance of trade. Less oil would have to be imported from the Middle East.

4.) Would have been a boost to our energy independence and our national security.

Instead, the President decides that our energy problems will be jump-started by making federal buildings energy efficient.

Amazing.
