| Where GOP senators stand on the spendulus bill (chad)Cassy Fiano endured the pain of calling every GOP senator to find out where they stand on the spendulus bill. The complete list is at the link but here are some excerpts: Firm No:John McCain Lindsay Graham Mitch McConnell Jeff Sessions Squishy (apply pressure): Michael Enzi leaning towards no Kay Bailey Hutchison busy on both lines Lamar Alexander likely a no vote, but still possibly squishy Saxby Chambliss said he currently opposed it, but was open to compromise George Voinovich voted no in appropriations but is still open to voting for the bill Update: It has been reported in the comments below that Susan Collins e-mail, phones and fax have all been crashed. I am going to suggest a blitz on NY senator Kristen Gilbrand (202) 224-4451 email: finance@kirstengillibrand.com. She has said in the past she didn't support this bill so there may be hope. Comments1
This bill is such a porkfest a list of Democrats that have any reputation for fiscal sanity might be more help.

While probably "squishy", I doubt Chambliss will break with all those that came to save his hide in the run-off. Is there a "semi-firm" catagory?

Good for McCain and Graham.
What the rest of these clowns need to realize is that this is simply the first spending package. Just wait 'til SuperGenius Tim Geithner comes asking for TARP III (I say give it 60 days). Then there's probably going to be an HOLC-like vehicle to turn the federal government into the worlds biggest landlord. Then, once they realize that even using the best leftist theory there's not enough actual stimulus in this current 'recovery' act to stop deflation, Zero's going to be back asking for a do-over. You have to be tough on this bill to keep them honest. If you don't take a principled stand against the waste and pork now, the upcoming bills will be worse. I'm so very tired, already, and we're only 19 days into the Obama administration. I wish that our Senators would listen to their consciences and do what is right for the country. I haven't bothered to contact my 2, there's no way either one of them would ever deviate from the Democrat party line. They live and breathe that shit day in and day out. And there's no way we'll ever get anything but 2 Democrat senators here in Washington state. So, I envy those of you who at least have a Republican that's still in the fight. WASHINGTON President Barack Obama and Senate Republicans bickered Saturday over his historically huge economic recovery plan after states and schools lost tens of billions of dollars in a late-night bargain to save it.
Everything Barry does is historic. Including pissing money away. "That was, after all, what last November's election was all about," he said. I'll bet Barry uses that line for the next 4 years. Typical spoiled child. Posted by: TheQuietMan at February 07, 2009 07:31 PM (gWfQv) 23

A few notes. Milk washes down cookies a lot better than rancid pork. Let's think about how this episode might be viewed 100 years from now... The media will again be looked upon by objective eyes as being completely corrupted and dishonest, as they were during the time of the USSR. Lying cocksuckers all of them. The congresspeople will be seen as idiots, complete idiots who smile and laugh as they do things that they haven't pondered the effects of doing to the general populace. What will the result of this shitpile be? I have a degree in economics from a Big Ten school. I didn't ace every test, but I can see a gigantic fucking econo-political mistake when I see one that has layer upon layer of bad economics and bullshit decision-making. It is FUCKING ELEMENTARY ECONOMICS THAT THEY ARE HAVE GOTTEN WRONG AND ARE AGAIN GETTING WRONG. And as far as I am concerned, the Democrats over the last fifty fucking years deserve every molecule of blame for these problems. I don't expect idiot liberals who fawn over some idiot in sunglasses and masturbate over covers of People magazine to understand shit. They have educations in nothingness. It is absofuckinglutely amazing how we went from the media fucks bitching about borrowing from China, er deficit spending , to the same idiots PUSHING this kind of whaleshit, acting as a fucking PR firm for the faggot in chief. She replied that she didn't want to use TARP funds, but instead, she was all for using $25 billion in funds already dedicated to the DOE for energy research and give it all to the auto industry - wtf. I guess she thinks that Federal Government money is just one giant slush fund that can be used however they want, whenever they want. Why do they even bother with separate bills? They might as well just create a bill that says, "Print $10 trillion to be used in any way we want, now or in the future." What the hell? Posted by: markytom at February 07, 2009 08:10 PM (pAaFB) 55

Is she saying that they are expected to vote on a bill they haven't seen? And did she just say that the bill "didn't go through our normal committee process" again, like the TARP. And did she just say that the republicans want to "take a step back and do this right, not piecemeal". Did she just say that we have already spent a trillion between the $600 bucks for some americans and the TARP? Did she also say they were told "to expect another trillion"? Did she just say this is about "indebetedness, and how are we going to pay for this?"

Things Zero & the Dems don't want to talk about: Report to the Secretary of the Treasury from the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, 02/04/2009
But the ramp up in debt issuance remains in its early stages. As the US government and also foreign governments continue their efforts to stabilize their respective economies, the supply of government and quasi-government paper will grow rapidly. The sheer magnitude of paper set to be issued raises the possibility that investors at some point will demand a concession of some sort, lifting yields in parts of the term structure beyond those justified by macro fundamentals. As a country with a current account deficit and a majority of Treasury debt held abroad, the US is more at risk of such a development than a country such as Japan where the government bond market is primarily domestically held. 'Concession of some sort' = big, giant, huge tax increases. Think Rooseveltian marginal tax rates. Posted by: Robert_Paulson at February 07, 2009 08:37 PM (zjgCD) 74

Do any of you REALLY wonder how Barry can be so "audacious" to be pushing all of this shit so soon? This is end game. The Repukes will not stand in the way of the very same black candidate they didn't have the stones to oppose in the first place.

I'll be shocked if Richard Shelby (R-AL) doesn't vote against it, especially with Jeff Sessions vocally opposed. On the night the house Republicans voted NO, I sent him this with the Subject: Vote No on the stimulus:
Dear Senator Shelby I request that you vote against the so-called Stimulus bill. #18 -- Here's Steele's radio address:
This is Michael Steele, Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Democrats have controlled both branches of government for less than a month. And you have to wonder if all that power has gone to their heads. "For the last two weeks, they've been trying to force a massive spending bill through Congress under the guise of economic relief. "All of us -- Republicans and Democrats -- agree the government must act to kick-start the American economy. American families are doing their best to balance their own budgets and pay their mortgages. "The fastest way to help those families is by letting them keep more of the money they earn. Individual empowerment: that's how you stimulate the economy. "But the Democrats have a different philosophy. Instead of leaving money in the family checkbook, they want to send it to Washington, run it through a slow and inefficient government, and hope that does some good. "When families keep the money, they spend it, save it, or invest it. And the private sector economy benefits when families and businesses buy consumer goods or invest it for the future. But when Washington spends the money, some of it may flow into the economy, but all too often, much gets wasted. "Democrats in Congress want a one-trillion dollar spending bill. You've heard about the pork-barrel programs they want to fund... 45 million dollars for ATV trails and removal of fish passage barriers is one that caught my eye. Exactly what is a fish passage barrier and why does it cost 45 million dollars to stimulate the economy with it? "That's why Republicans in the House voted against uncontrolled spending. This is not a bragging point, but rather a statement that at least Republicans would stand with the American taxpayer. "But voting 'no' is not enough... and Republicans have offered innovative ideas to help struggling families and small businesses. We've offered plans to spark job creation and investment through lower taxes, to stop the taxation of unemployment benefits, and to help Americans keep their jobs and their homes. "The comprehensive Republican plan would lower taxes for all working American families. If you're married, the first 16,750 dollars you make this year will be taxed at ten percent. Why don't we cut that rate in half to give instant buying power to every working American family? "Good ideas... lots of them... all left out of this plan by the Democrats in Congress. "Republicans stand ready to work with reasonable Democrats to do what is right for America. "But it will take more than bipartisan words from the President. It will require fair-minded action from Democrats in Congress. Posted by: richard mcenroe at February 07, 2009 09:26 PM (pEXyx) 106

"All of us -- Republicans and Democrats -- agree the government must act to kick-start the American economy..." See? That's the problem with Michael Steele and the RNC -- they are not Conservatives, they are Democrats. Conservatives don't "want the government to kick-start the economy." Conservatives want the government to make the adjustments necessary so that it does not hinder the free market and the American people from correcting the economy. Conservatives know that government is never the solution and almost always the problem. Posted by: Darling at February 07, 2009 09:51 PM (+WJ5q) 121

Everyone should keep calling, but if you want to really do something that will have an impact go ask a well-known person who supports the plan a question on video that makes them look bad.
For instance, you may have seen the recent video where John Sweeney was asked a question he couldn't answer. It would be like that, but with an even better question and with someone who'd press the issue. Get a really good video that makes someone look very bad, and it will get hundreds of thousands or millions of views. And, it doesn't have to be a Senator; it could be one of their aides, or a pundit even. If you can't do that yourself, then start writing major bloggers asking them to urge their readers to do it. There's a general guide to asking real questions at my name's link. Posted by: The guide at February 07, 2009 10:27 PM (CmcMj) 152

Conservatives can live in peace and prosperity with Moderates, and can tolerate Liberals to a point.
Moderates tolerate Conservatives and Liberals. But, Liberals can't abide anybody who is not one of them. The only durable and sensible answer is to physically separate Liberals from the rest of us. They need and truly deserve their own country. Give them all of New England, New York below Albany, and the Eastern Seaboard down to NC. If their way of life works, then that territory should easily suffice. Once they are gone the United States of America will right itself and sail on true and steady. schizoid, I don't disparage paper gold, own some myself, not enough to make any difference. I was joking, kind of. Uncertainty is a bitch. The markets hate uncertainty. I think a lot of what we're seeing in the economy is a response to having a Marxist in the White House. I don't say he's a Marxist disparagely, it's what he is. There are enough people that work in some way, shape or form in the markets that realize that, whether they admit it publicly or not. They don't know how to react, we're in uncharted waters. So everyone is running for cover. The gubermint, the Marxist, by trying to react to what might have been a mild recession, which is nothing more than a correction in the markets, is only going to exacerbate the recession. This may be due to incompetence and/or inexperience. I've worried since last summer that this is an intended manipulation of the markets. Either way it has created uncertainty that markets abhor. I listen and hear what these assholes say. Rahm Emmanual says that a crisis is an opportunity. An opportunity for what . . . ? Posted by: RB at February 07, 2009 11:36 PM (ewXBY) 182
Sorry to be dismal and all. If you can figure out a way to package
Secession as a Lefty thing and thus break up Leviathan, that might
work...
I don't think it's really a matter of what would work, evil midnight bomber (what bombs at midnight). So much as it is a matter of being inevitable. You simply can't take things from working people and give them to others, or fritter them away, and not expect some kind of reaction. In other words, they are stealing all our money to pass out among their friends and we aren't going to see any of it or any benefit from it. They are jeopardizing our very security doing this, and stealing not only from us, but from our children and grandchildren. My feeling is that whatever form it takes, there is going to be a gigantic pushback to such blatant thievery, possibly sooner rather than later. It will just happen inevitably, whether it succeeds in anything or not. Posted by: Alana at February 07, 2009 11:38 PM (JE2zV) 183

Slightly O/T -- have you noticed in your neighborhoods that no one flies the flag anymore? I put mine in storage on 4 Nov, unlikely to ever see the light of day again. But even on my local military installations, through the housing areas, I can't recall seeing it fly anymore.
So if the productive segment of the society, encapsulated within the flag-waving, 48 percenters who voted against Herr Obama, decides to take the Atlas Shrugged route and withdraws their talent, their commitment, and their capital from the market, how is the nonproductive segment going to function? Hopefully, enough of us saved up for 7 years of famine... Posted by: Big Fat Meanie at February 07, 2009 11:39 PM (n2eCn) 185

These senators have no idea how dangerous this is. When the credit market tumbled, Bush, Paulson, & Bernanke had to chose between inflation or a depression; they chose inflation. In turn, Paulson [by act of Congress] lent money to the banks, etc. as a way to stop the hemorraging. In the meantime, Bernanke has to run the money supply through the roof to keep things afloat. If precise measures are taken, the economy will recover; when this occurs, Bernanke's response should be to immediately reel in the money supply. [The opposite of what Volcker did with the stagflation crisis in the '70s.] Obama understands none of this. If he is not precise in his actions, he will cause not only hyperinflation but a depression as well. Posted by: '80sBaby at February 07, 2009 11:58 PM (zmiSr) 196

Wamp isn't going to run again and Marsha Blackburn is thinking about running for governor. That's two of the nine seats. I don't know what the others are planning to do, but you also have five dems holding those seats. Forget Cohen over there in Memphis. Gordon's been in there so long no one even bothers to run against him. He's young too, late 50's and they keep gerrymandering his district to keep the expanding suburbs of Nashville who tend to vote repub out of his district. Just some fuel for your fire.

The "presidential determination" which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal Register on February 4. President Obama's decision, according to the Register, was necessitated by "the urgent refugee and migration needs" of the "victims." TAX CUTS AS PROMISED! I agree with Lone Star that Kay Bailey Hutchison has gone McMaverick on Texas, fishing for Democrat support/votes to beat Perry at the coming TX Governor election. What a loon. If it takes a permanent campaign to pass legislation, why didn't the Republicans bring back Harold Stassen (other than the fact that he's dead) ? So much for the brainiest president, the guy who said his best talent was getting people in a room and getting them to talk. Did they run out of suitable rooms in DC ? When you call or write, make absolutely certain that you tell your Senators to vote no on CLOTURE. Voting yes on cloture but no on the floor vote is just the same as voting yes. Here's what I sent to my Senators: Senator DeMint, Thank you for your strong stand against the Keynesian stimulus package. I'm sure you already plan on voting no for cloture, but I hope you will do whatever you can to strengthen other Senators in opposition to cloture. The 60 vote requirement is the only real hope we have of stopping this worthless legislation. Senator Graham, I understand and appreciate that you have opposed this stimulus package. It's nothing but a dramatic lurch to the Left and will do nothing of any kind to stimulate the private sector. I just wanted to pass along my support and ask that you vote no on cloture, as well as voting no on the bill should it come to a floor vote. As you know, cloture is only a way of ensuring the bill's passage. I also urge you to resist any attempts to pass the bill with reduced spending. The very premise of this legislation is anti-American and contrary to the proven principles of a Free Market. Shaving some of the pork won't change that. Fannie Mae will drop some credit-score requirements, reduce income-documentation standards and waive the need for appraisals in some cases, according to a notice yesterday to lenders posted on the Washington-based companys Web site. The changes apply to loans that the company owns or guarantees.

Mixed in with the righteous rage over the ongoing betrayal of the country by Hussein Pasha and his minions; there was mention of flags; as in whether to fly them, and whether or not they should be inverted. Allow me to quote what I said at Misha's place on the day Hussein Pasha perjured himself with the Oath:
----------------------------- A slightly different take, if I may. At my house, the US colors have until today flown every day since the moment that I saw the airliners hit on 9/11. When I moved to my current house, I installed a real flagstaff instead of the jury-rigged one I had at the old place. It has 3 sets of shackles on the halyard. I flew US colors over the First Navy Jack [the naval version of the rattlesnake flag that was the first set of US colors flown by the Continental Navy], over the colors of one of our allies in the war; primarily either the UK, our Aussie brothers, or Israel. From today, I fly only the First Navy Jack, which the Secretary of the Navy ordered flown on all Navy vessels until the war is won. While I am sure that Hussein Pasha thinks he is done with the war, most assuredly the war is not done with us. The US colors have been safely stored. I am somewhat of a historian. I know that there are times when countries are under the occupation of hostile and foreign forces. We are in that place now. Just as patriots in such cases hide their national colors until they can fly freely again in peace or in war, I will await the day when we have a legitimate president and a government loyal to the Constitution again. When I was an active Peace Officer, I was required by law to render aid in any emergency, even when off duty. It was my luck, good or bad, to find myself as first responder fairly frequently, when off duty. Since I retired, I am under no such compulsion. If I should find myself as a first responder again, and there is any indication that the victims are supporters of the Usurper, they can pray to him for help. They are not my countrymen. LC Subotai Bahadur ------------------------- Let us recall, and become worthy of, our history. Subotai Bahadur Posted by: Subotai Bahadur at February 08, 2009 11:44 PM (GJ/FW) 246
