More Evidence of Obama's Miracle-Working Ability

His spokesman, Robert Gibbs, makes Scott McClellan look like a rhetorical genius.

Memo to Gibbs: Not a good idea to indicate that a reporter's question is somehow not 'pertinent.' As you can see, Jake Tapper was not amused.

Cringe-inducing but awesome video below the fold:

Did anyone else hear what Jake Tapper *almost* said, or is it just me?"

"Do you have another more pertinent question?" at 0:50.  Followed immediately is Tapper, which sounds to me like he almost says, "I think it's pretty fucking pertinent!" but then corrects himself at "I think it's pretty f...it's fairly pertinent, here, your cabinet nominees..."

WOW!

19 Hey, their qualifications, lobbyist history, and criminal activity is irrelevant and the only thing measured is their "loyalty" to Obama.  That has to be obvious by now based on the picks.

So asking for this information isn't "pertinent" to the process.  Asking how many times a prospective appointee has fellated The One might be pertinent to the process; but their qualifications are irrelevant as is obvious to everyone at this point.

The Washington Post is reporting that ABC Senior White House reporter Jack Tapper was found unconscious in Ft. Marcy Park on Thursday evening.  It is reported by an anonymous source that he has been despondent over his misunderstanding of the current political climate.

The Park Police have issued no opinion on the manner of death, but a source close to the investigation suggests suicide.  That same source reports that large quantities of Oxycontin were found in Mr. Tappers car.

Nice how he hooks Obama at the end with the "wouldn't he agree" thing. Cause then Gibbs's options are to a) look like a shmuck or b) say that it is the opinion of the President of the United States that journalists are impertinent.

Of course, that is the opinion of the President of the United States, but I think he'll want to avoid its being confirmed via nationally televised press conference.

Who wants to bet Gibb discovers his own "tax issues" and/or shoots himself in the head in a totally-not-faked, 100% genuine suicide?

Gibbs will leave the adminstration to play the part of Festus on the new version of Gunsmoke.

One of Festus's most well-known attributes was his simple vocabulary and demeanor (by extension a perceived lack of intelligence), which ended up being interpreted by viewers as "lovable," and kept Curtis on the series as a full-time cast member.

50 I've listened again. I'm getting a chin callus from all the jaw-dropping hypocrisy and incompetence of this "administration" and its catamites in the press. Finally one journo asks a not particularly trenchant question, but a direct one. The reincarnation of Snotty McClellan playing press secretary responds like a schoolgirl snubbing one of the ugly ones from her clique.

If anything remotely like this had happened with Bush, Gibbs would be permanently tarnished as a preening snot, parodied on every talk show, comedy channel and morning radio zoo. The glaring, actinic, billion-candlepower inconsistency between MSM treatment of Bush and Twatwaffle Hussein O'Guiltwhite is giving me third-degree sunburn. 66 This whole recent campaign season has been nothing but a high school popularity contest. From the depth of the issues to the tenor of the campaign. Our society has been browbeaten by its leading cultural voices, the Left, into worshipping nothing other than a collectivist cartoon of equality. Every other pursuit is venal. Liberty is a dead concept. And finally the 52% may have won both the game and match.

So it shouldn't surprise us when intellectual discourse between the press and the highest levels of government turns into a petulant, adolescent game of oneupsmanship. The popular kids in the cool clique are just squabbling over who gets to lead the pack.

TRANSCRIPTZOR (as best I could):

Gibbs:  Jake?
Tapper:  Robert, two questions.  One's a housekeeping one.  In the name of transparency that you and the president herald so much, is there any way, uh, we could get the, uh, copies of the waivers that the OMB issues to allow certain cabinet, uh, posts and so are deputy posts-
Gibbs: -I'll check on it-
Tapper -free of the ethics constraints you put up and also, the um, disclosure forms that your nominees put out that go to the Office of Government Ethics that, somehow they're not able to email or you know, put on the web...is there any way we can get copies of those?
Gibbs: Yeah, I will check on it, I, uh, don't know how those forms are distributed.
Tapper: Just based on listening to the President's rhetoric, I'm sure it's something he'd want to do.
Gibbs: Well, uh...
*intermittent press-pool laughter*
Tapper: The question is...
Gibbs: Knowing of your crystal-clarity on his opinion, I'll certainly check.
Tapper: He doesn't believe in transparency?
Gibbs: *gutteral huff* ...
Tapper:  Ok.
Gibbs: Did you have another, more pertinent question?
*press-pool mumbling, someone to the effect of "oh, I think it's pertinent!"
Tapper: I think that's pretty fu-- it's fairly pertinent who're your cabinet nominees, and whether or not they pay your taxes, and whether or not they have speaking fees, with all sorts of industries they're supposed to regulate, I think that's fairly pertinent.  You don't?
Gibbs: I-I-Obviously I do, and obviously the President does...
Tapper: The majority of the American people apparently support blocking or making major changes to the stimulus bill, according to the Gallup Poll.  Are you worried at all that you've lost control of the process on how this bill is going to proceed?
Gibbs: *moves on to next reporter* Chuck?

Well, we'll all know pretty soon if Tapper is up to date on HIS taxes.  I'm sure there are henchmen pouring over his records right now looking for some way to send him to a gulag.

Posted by: Purple Avenger at February 05, 2009 05:55 PM (Ygf78)

94 The kind of arrogance Gibbs shows only comes from the top down.  The big boss treats people that way so why shouldn't he?

Posted by: MrsPaulsFishSticks at February 05, 2009 05:59 PM (iYbLN)

95 Gibbs looked like Martin Short's Nathan Thurm character up there, complete with flop sweat. All that was missing was a cigarette with a two-inch long ash.

"Whoopee cushions? I work for a very reputable firm that makes semiconductors.

I'm not being defensive. You're the one who's being defensive. I mean, it's him, right?"

Seriously though, good to see at least one of Obama's lap dogs is starting to bite.

Posted by: jarod at February 05, 2009 05:42 PM (A23Gx)

Tapper isn't anyone's lapdog. He was the only one to report Biden's constant gaffes throughout the campaign and he's the closest thing there is to an "independent" and unbiased journalist nowadays. I predict he will be the first to make Gibbs cry.

Posted by: ol-dirty-/b/tard at February 05, 2009 06:02 PM (IoUF1)

97 No, Helen looks at Tapper as if he is a Jooo.

Posted by: MrsPaulsFishSticks at February 05, 2009 06:02 PM (iYbLN)

98 If I were Gibbs, I'd be looking for some bus-proof body armor right about now.

Y'know, I think it could go either way. What Obambi needs in a Press Secretary is someone who doesn't answer questions.

btw, The Kiddies have diarrhea'd it, and they think Gibbs is fahbulous for blowing off the rude, snarky Jake Tapper by airily moving on to "Chuck," whoever that was.

Posted by: arhooley at February 05, 2009 06:04 PM (s94V2)

99 Keeping with the Jaws theme -- Tapper's Quint to Gibbs' Hooper:  Hooper! Hooper!  You've got city hands, Mr. Hooper! You've been countin' money all your life! Owned!

101 Gibbs was the kid who was always picked last to play baseball and ended up at right field. He was also the puny kid who liked to play hop-scotch with the girls.  His look and talk-alike for me was little Johnny Finsterwald who was known for his hysterical crying outbursts.  Yep, fits perfectly.

I'll definitely grant Tapper is the closest to a real independent reporter in the MSM, but no more than that.

Tapper:  Robert, two questions.  One's a housekeeping one.  In the name of transparency that you and the president herald so much, . . .

He started with this, and then instantly came back with an incredulous "the president doesn't believe in transparency?" when Gibbs got snarky. He knew perfectly well that Gibbs would act like an idiot and he was prepared.
