At least as this abortion is currently configured.

Given that the spendulus is rapidly declining in popular appeal, and that a plurality prefer a tax-cut only version of the bill, will Republicans hold out for a good deal or fold like lawn furniture the moment The One makes the smallest concession?

Perspective: If you spent a million a day since the day of Christ's birth, you still wouldn't spend as much as Obama and the liberals want to spend in 3-4 years.

With most of that spending coming after the recession, incidentally, and at least $200 billion ongoing and on-growing until the Messiah comes back the second time. (Or the first time, for our Jewish friends.)

GOP legislators will fold, even though the politically smart thing to do would be to hold out. Why? They fear Obama's popularity, for one thing, which is the dumbest reason evah to refrain from opposing bad legislation. Further, some are no doubt under the impresssion Obama is somehow opposed to Nancy Pelosi's larding of the stimulus with bullshit payoffs to Dem constituencies. I would imagine Obama's only complaint about House treatment of the stimulus package is that the porkfest aspect of the thing has been too clumsily handled. Not even an adulatory media can hide the deception this stimulus represents.

Meanwhile my son is entering his 3 month of unemployment. He's applied for several jobs, not even a phone call yet. Where there used to be 20 people applying for that position, there's now 50. He's receiving unemployment and just applied for food stamps. The worry on his face is unbearable.
