| NYT: Daschle should withdrawIts over Tom, you just lost the faith of the Praetorian guard. Quit now before you wake up with a bunch of daggers in your chest. Comments1
Wow, a twofer- a tax cheat (how unpatriotic, eh chia boy?) and in essence the third lobbyist appointed by the lobbyist free administration.
Which would make it roughly one lobbyist per 5 days, in the lobbyist free, open and transparent administration that the American people deserve (good and hard). Posted by: buster mcDissenter at February 03, 2009 08:55 AM (ZS5Bn) 2
Daschle made 5 MILLION dollars last year,on speeches to the group of people that he now wants to regulate...yeah, right. A blatant lie about lobbyist getting up to the trough without the 2 year wait. Dash did not pay taxes on many items..it's not about just the car, as he has continued to put out as a defense. Dash is a tax cheat, there was no"loophole"that he used, he failed to disclose payments of all types. Next up....Solis. Posted by: ford at February 03, 2009 08:59 AM (Ki7fm) 3
This sounds paranoid, and I notice ever since this guy became Pres. everything that would sound paranoid actually sounds plausable, but why this and why now? They have covered, hid, lied and ignored everything else, and most things alot more important than this. I'm very sceptical about them actually doing their job NOW and for this particular topic-and their motive for it. When something seems to good to be true, that's because it is. We believe that Mr. Daschle ought to step aside and let the president choose a less-blemished successor
It appears that Obama doesn’t know any “less blemished” people. Remember he is trying to appoint Commiecrats. No wonder he is having to go outside the party to Republicans.
And this from the NY slimes….hahahahahahahaha Posted by: Vic at February 03, 2009 09:05 AM (f6os6) 6
My guess is that Daschle will not withdraw and will rely on the "Good Ol' Boys Network" that is the United States Senate to pull him through.
He is THAT invested in the creation of a universal health care system. The question then becomes: does Saint Barack pull the plug on the nomination? Posted by: cbharmon at February 03, 2009 09:06 AM (tTc5u) 7
I think Daschle is a "brazen it out" kinda guy. I don't think he's going to give up willingly. Obie's gonna have to manhandle him under the bus
Posted by: Purple Avenger at February 03, 2009 09:06 AM (Ygf78) 8
As a lawyer, one would think that Daschle would be aware of the uh, ummm, what's the word, oh yeah, legalities of the tax code. Posted by: BackwardsBoy at February 03, 2009 09:08 AM (ZGhSv) 9
America's gonna get a nice diet of Chicago politics for a while.

I'm very sceptical about them actually doing their job NOW and for this particular topic-and their motive for it. When something seems to good to be true, that's because it is. Deniability. By doing this they are actually going after Daschle, who now essentially has no power and were he to get power, it wouldn't be in an arena where they would be threatened by retaliation from him. They don't have to attack their Messiah, and calls for Daschle to withdraw means Obama doesn't have to pull the nomination making him look like he made a mistake and knows it. And they get their cover of claiming that they aren't "in the tank" completely for Obama: "See we were critical of his picking of Daschle." Basically claiming they only spit instead of swallow. Notice how the NYT parses its language to allow the fiction to be perpetuated that Daschle's tax problem was all about the "use of a car"... clearly something that would hardly rise to the level of a disqualifying offense where it the whole truth! Same bullshit was shoveled on NPR yesterday by Dem cheerleader / news analyst Cokie Roberts. Her slogan should be "Cokie's-okie-dokie: itza-donkie". "A camel could sooner pass through the eye of a needle" than the MSM tell the plain unvarnished truth about a Democrat. This shameful behavior is objective proof that NYT and NPR (etc.) are absolutely busted worthless as sources of news - they simply excrete propaganda for the Democrat Party. This is a win win for us. He withdraws, The Times gets to goat and try to push The One some more. He doesn't withdraw and The Times will go ballistic and the honeymoon will be over. It didn't last too long did it? Two weeks? The One and his crew are starting to look like what they are, bugling idiots. God help us if something really serious happens, like an attack on the country. Kemp Posted by: kempermanx at February 03, 2009 09:23 AM (2+9Yx) 15

15 daschle is not a lawyer, his degree is in Political Science from S Dakota St That well know institute of higher learning. He's like Palin, who went to Idaho and was mocked for going to a "hick" school. Wonder why Daschie's great degree is not subject to the same ridicule. Anyone want to venture a guess? I have no clue. How the media doesn't see how these absolutely horrible cabinet choices don't reflect poorly on O himself and his judgement (vicariously) is beyond me. This is a reflection of O's competence and abilty to do the job at hand and it appears thus far that he is woefully unprepared for the challenges inherent to the job that he now has. I mean, if he can't make decent hires in his own cabinet, the prospect of him successfully navigating the Presendential waters are slim to none. Americans are beginning to form an opinion of O and it may not be a good one going forward. Forget Rush hoping that he fails; I'll think that he has a head start on that one all on his own.

Awww....Tom would have been the perfect guy to help the system "lose" Obama's original BC. Now he's going to have to find another schmuck to do his dirty business. No problem there though. Anyone with a D behind their name is lining up do slobber on BHO's precious cock.
Posted by: LC at February 03, 2009 09:39 AM (uwwIK) 19
His own state voted him out of office. He cheated on his taxes. He was basically a lobbyist after being voted out which is supposed to be a disqualifyer. I know, lets put him in a cabinet position.

thump thump thump. Plus the times articles says he should step aside for someone who is "less blemished" guess the times isn't too optimistic about obama finding someone "clean"
Posted by: Risa at February 03, 2009 10:00 AM (CYdO7) 22
PA -- this is just smoke and mirrors. The NYT can call for Daschle to step down because they know it won't happen. So they can claim their moral superiority miles without risking inconveniencing the Great and Powerful Ob.

I think Daschle should brazen it out. They are all crooks, why single him out? That would be unfair. Besides, I like the idea of all these corrupt slimes in one spot when the people finally decide they've had enough. We're not there yet, but its coming. Posted by: MarkD at February 03, 2009 10:39 AM (MMy4A) 24
On NPR last night (...know your enemies...), they were running a BBC feed discussing world news, and the whole mess regarding these people in the Obama Administration having tax issues came up. They talked about Daschle and Geithner, and made it sound like Daschle's only error is that he "honestly didn't know" (reference: himself) that the car & chauffer gift were taxable, and that "people that know Daschle believe him." Then they went on to Geithner, and summed up his problems as simply "ticking the wrong box on the form." They concluded that, if you ran a complete tax audit of the entire House of Representatives and Senate, you would probably find lots of similar "errors." That the U.S. tax code is very complicated for wealthy individuals, and most politicians D.C. are wealthy. As I pondered what I'd heard, I started to place myself in the shoes of these people. What would I do if I were a rep or a senator? Would I just "do my best" on my taxes and hope that I was doing it right? Heck no! With as much hay gets made of politicians (especially Republicans) getting stuff wrong, doing my own taxes, especially "very complicated wealthy-people" taxes is just a liability. I'd hire someone in order to make sure that things were filed right. So who still believes that these people do their own taxes? Certainly not me. What a crock of bullcrap. The two things I heard that I did enjoy from the BBC feed were: 1) That, due to President Obama's campaign mantra of ethical superiority in his Administration, these repeated findings of bad tax filings are all the more damaging. "One, maybe two, those could be forgivable. But once you start getting three or more people with these same problems, then it really starts to damage the credibility of the Adminstration." I disagree that two of these are forgivable, but I was glad to hear that at least the BBC is drawing a line on just how long they will continue to give this Administration a pass. 2) Regarding the alleged protectionist "Buy-America Clause" in the current stimulus offering...the charman of the Dallas branch of the Fed ofered the following quote: "Protectionism is economic heroin. You get a nice high from it at first, but your economy quickly becomes addicted to it, and it will eventually kill you." I enjoyed that. Posted by: reason at February 03, 2009 10:43 AM (XiVKO) 25
So who still believes that these people do their own taxes? Certainly not me. What a crock of bullcrap.
And why are their taxes so difficult to begin with? What sort of "additional income" are these people recieving, on top of their standard pay, that makes completing their tax returns so damn complicated? Sounds to me like a whole lot of cash is being tossed around in DC and there is no real, legitimate way to account for it come tax time. Therefore, "Ooopsie, I'm sorry, but I just couldn't figure out how to report that $500,000 "donation" to my fact-finding committee, of which I am the only employee, on TaxCut...." Posted by: wiserbud at February 03, 2009 10:58 AM (IHbof) 26
Actually, Daschle lost their faith a long time ago. He committed the one unforgivable sin for a democrat; he lost.
Posted by: kbiel at February 03, 2009 11:03 AM (HAib+) 27
What sort of "additional income" are these people receiving, on top of their standard pay?
Aw come on, you know it’s hard to classify bribes to determine if they are taxable as long term capital gains at the now 15% rate, or as “qualifying dividends from interest peddling again at the 15% rate, or as normal income at the full rate. Given all those complications they revert to the standard politician action when they can’t make up their mind; do nothing.
That has the added feature that they don’t have to pay anything as long as they don’t get caught. Posted by: Vic at February 03, 2009 11:04 AM (f6os6) 28

Chuckie Shushter was just on Fox saying that the only problem was an oversight in his cars that he discovered himself and therefore should not be a problem.
Another Dem is on there now saying the same thing so that is the official talking point. So why not use the same thing they have been successful with in the past; the big lie.
After all, Fox did not call either one on this. Posted by: Vic at February 03, 2009 11:33 AM (f6os6) 31

This sounds about right. There may be one other thing at work here. Since we're likely headed down the rathole of socialized medicine, the SecHHS will be a very, very powerful position. I heard someone opine (Mark Steyn? Someone at Reason?) that the ministers for Health in socialist Europe are the ones wielding the greatest power. People demand government's utmost from "free" medicine, and it usually consumes the largest slice of gubmint pie. (Over there, they barely spend on the military.) For this reason, the NYT and collectivist slime may in fact want someone purer than Caesar's wife to fill the HHS slot. They want no interference or bumps on the road to Soviet-style command economy medicine. And we know how much Waffles hates distractions.
