Whopsie! Daschle's Tax Problems Are More Extensive Than First Thought

Looks like Daschle has a bigger problem than not paying taxes on the gift of a car and driver.

He didn't report consulting income and claimed charitable contributions that didn't qualify. All in all he had to pony up an extra $140,000 in payments and interest.

40 Obama really could advance a plan to save this nation from its economic problems.

If he'd just appoint every fellow Democrat he knows to his Cabinet and let them get vetted, the collective total of back-taxes, fines, and penalties to correct all the forgetfulness might put the U.S. back in the black (so to speak). He doesn't have to appoint them, just let 'em get vetted.

Most ethical CongressExecutive ever. Thanks, NancyObama!

41 Applying the time value of money, Daschle's failure to pay on time made the deficit substantially worse.  Kind of like lending money to your brother that he pays back 14 years later in mallomars and bags of weed.

According to Joe Biden "it is patriotic to pay more taxes."  So it is unpatriotic to only pay what you owe at the present tax rates.  What does Biden call those who refuse to pay what they owe?  Tax Cheats!
We have tax cheat Charlie Rangel, Chairman of the House, Ways and Means (the taxing committee) who doesn't pay his taxes, tax cheat Timonthy Geithner, Secretary of the Treasure (overseer of national tax collections) who didn't pay $34,000, and now we have tax cheat Thomas Daschle, Secretary of Health, who didn't pay $128,203 and has to pay an $11,964 interest penalty.
Where is Ted Kennedy to shout "Social Justice requires higher taxes!"  I know,  the Fiji Islands is where he keeps his family fortune in non-taxable accounts.
No wonder we are some of the highest taxed people in the world, Democrats are tax exempt.  No wonder they are always screaming for higher taxes.
Who said King George is dead?   It's time to have another  Boston Tea Party....TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION IS TYRANY.

Posted by: rachel at January 31, 2009 05:25 AM (4gHqM)

54 REVENUE IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 2009

I think someone should propose a law requiring Obama to nominate each and every one of the Democrats in Congress to one cabinet post or another.  Think of all the money we could raise if they just paid the taxes they owe.

Then we could start in on Senate appointments for all those millionaire socialites like Carolyn Kennedy that support them...

After all, paying taxes, patriotic, you know.

58 Many liberals seem to be real money-grubbers/tax cheats, don't they?

Then, motivated by guilt over it, and of not contributing properly to the government they trust to structure the world, they crusade for higher taxes. They're convinced that everyone else is doing the same thing and needs to be penalized.

Then they cheat on the new taxes, too.

And the Left give less to charity, too, but want to be forced to benevolence through taxation.  And that no one else can be trusted to contribute to charity, either.

Liberal projection runs very, very deep.

59 Behold, Obama Tax Cuts Cutters.

Obama & Cronies, Inc., give up your excesses before propagandizing coercive sacrifices from taxpayers.

The same with municipalities, universities and school districts bitching about cutting services in order to meet their budgets. ONLY CUT THE TOP ADMINISTRATIVE PAY SCALE and let the fat cats go if they don't like to work for significantly less. There are plenty of qualified people willing to take and perform those jobs at the lower salary.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Daschle's degree was in Political Science and he served in our military as an Intelligence Officer.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Obama won't be damaged by these individual incidents but this just one more "paper cut" that a year or two from now, when taken in aggregate with all of his other crap, will cause him some trouble.  Someone mentioned that this was intentional to rid O of possible rivals;  I don't think so, this is just pure incompetence from O and his staff not being up to a job; all with a little help from a fawning media.  I wouldn't worry about this affecting O long term because I think it will at some point.
