Another Obama Nominee Has a Tax Problem: Tom Daschle

So, Woodward was right when he hinted about further problems along these lines for Obama.

Daschle was "given" a car and driver to use by a wealthy Democratic friend. (I need to get me one of those.)

He, um, assumed he did not have to pay taxes on it.

Why on earth would he assume such a thing? It's ridiculous.

4 My boss at work uses the (public) college truck complete with the snow plow  and lift gate and pays NO taxes on it. He plows out his church and his neighbors driveways.he helps his friends move with the truck too.

The college president lives here during the week and has a real home three hours away. He commutes on work time.

Nobody cares...everything is corrupt. Everything is FUBAR.

5 Perhaps if Obama would just convince the Dems to all get together and pay their taxes, we could afford the bailout (stimulus, whatever).  With just Rangel, Geitner and Daschle they could keep from cutting the defense budget.

7 Well Obama did promise change.  We went from Sex scandals in the Clinton administration to tax scandals in the Obama administration.  That is change you can believe in.

8 Hey, Liberals are the "elite," right?

I mean, you can't expect them to live by the same rules they prescribe for us mere mortals, can you?

Posted by: CoolCzech at January 30, 2009 08:32 PM (iafWn)

9 Of course, assuming it really was a "gift" from a "friend" rather than, you know, compensation from a client, then Daschle's "friend" should have no problem showing payment of the gift taxes on it, right?

Um, right?

10 Oh. My. God.  I had to take tax law twice due to absences.  Hey, nothing is more boring than the IRC.  But even I know the definition of income is intentionally so expansive to encompass any thing of value, service, in kind contribution, or even someone paying your taxes.   They hammer that for a week or more.  I'm talking basic law school, not someone once responsible for WRITING the damn tax code.

15 Perhaps all incoming "public servants" should be given the most recent version of TurboTax when they arrive in Washington.

I'm sure HR and the rest of the demos would cut the same slack to Sarah P should it be revealed in 2011 that she made similar accounting booboos.

19 The change in the tax laws wherby a company-owned (or other-owned) vehicle used for personal benefit was to be considered a taxable benefit occurred in 1985 or so.

At the time, my company owned a fleet of 18 vehicles and from that time on my accountant was vigorous in advising me to keep a log book in order to distinguish between personal and business use. I went through a standard IRS review/ audit in 1991, which my company sailed through with no problems, and it was good record keeping (i.e. log book) that kept me out of trouble.

All of my friends and business peers have been pissing and moaning about these sorts of passive income matters for 20 years now. How could that son-of-a-bitch Daschle n o t k n o w?

And the value was 100K! That bastard.

Never knew there were so many Leona Helmsley's in Washington?  The Queen of Mean who stated,  "we don't pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes" was a perfect role model for liberal politicians.

Leona was the proverbial bitch, and Tom Daschole also fits in that category.  Diminutive, bitchy, and forever on his menstrual cycle committing perjury and liberal cuntery.
