| The "Stimulus," IllustratedHow big is the "stimulus"? Well, how about bigger than any government program or war in history? Comments1
Fuckin 3.8 contraction of GDP 4th quarter Sure alot of that can be attributed to MSM fearmongering and people waiting to see what happens with the election, but that theres some scary shit. Sure the yearly numbers amounted to a 1.3 increase, but the trend is clear. Posted by: Mr. Happy at January 30, 2009 03:54 PM (waaUg) 2
OT: How about a non-political post for a Friday?...the constant bombardment is kinda demoralizing.

Non-political? BSG tonight. (Or The Soup.)

Mr. Happy,
In Q1 of 1982 the economy contracted over 6%. And with effective leadership from President Reagan, we got 25 years of astounding economic growth. If Mr. Unicorn Pants can... We are So Very, Very Fucked. Posted by: Nom de Blog at January 30, 2009 04:03 PM (szcvf) 5

Carumba. This can't really happen, can it? Ah well. Once it all falls apart perhaps we'll just have a do-over. Wipe the slate clean, so to speak. Granted, it would be a bit jarring, but hey - sometimes you gotta hit the reset button, right? I'm sure we'd promise not to do it again. Obviously no one is really serious about paying all this debt back. How could they be?

Not sure if it's mentioned...teh Fred oughta just say "I got 'cher stimulus pack right here." It would be game, set and match. Stand up to the whiny socialists. They can't stand mocking and they have no sense of humor.

i've got a friend who thinks the iraq war cost $600 trillion, but he's a former journalist and journalism professor so brains ain't really his strong suit.

Neither are the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Be interesting to see how any of them compare to the "stimulus." Posted by: PA Cat at January 30, 2009 04:30 PM (Oc7bG) 15
But it's going to create 3 million new jobs. That's only $390,000 per job. That's a great deal. Oh wait no it's not, it's a really shitty deal. We could just hand out $100,000 to 11.7 million families and have them spend it. That would stimulate the economy. We could give $50,000 to 23 million families. You could give every family in America a monthy payment of approximately $1,300. You could save Detroit by buying 46 million cars (bad idea but I thought I would throw it out there anyway).

Shortshanks, I heard it was actually twiddly-two kajillion bazillion dollars. This from my son's history teacher, who also does not know that Gerald Ford died. Posted by: PaleoMedic at January 30, 2009 04:36 PM (xirX/) 17
I like to think of this stimulus package as comparable to living with your in-laws...

They should have used a bar graph. The area within a circle goes up square of the radius...so circle with double the area in it does not look that much larger. A simple bar graph would be twice as long. Is this the ohio state mathletes website?

Amazing that something that will cost nearly double what the Iraq/Afghanistan Wars costs was given all of a single day's debate in the House before passage. Whatever happened to "policy deliberation" we heard so much from on the Campaign trail Obama?
