Obama: 'No compromise' on Tax Cuts

Huh. This new era of bipartisanship and cooperation is starting to look pretty one-sided, isn't it?

President Barack Obama rolled into the Capitol with a clear message for Republicans Tuesday afternoon: He’s happy to talk, but he’s not compromising on tax cuts.

Obama was ready for the House Republicans to pounce, telling them: "Feel free to whack me over the head because I probably will not compromise on that part [tax cuts],” according to two sources in the room.

One conservative House Republican who attended the hour-long closed door session was asked if Obama was winning any votes: "Nope. He said he won't compromise on more tax cuts. All form - not substance."

House Republicans pelted Obama for more than 30 minutes with questions about deficits, taxes and spending, according to sources inside the private meeting. Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), won applause from his GOP colleagues when he asked the president whether he would promise that the stimulus would not be an excuse to raise taxes or increase spending. Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), asked Obama for common ground on taxes in the $825 billion package – and was rejected.

Obama's reason for opposing tax cuts?

The deficit.

No, really. The same guy who wants to spend billions of dollars on useless crap like this, but takes an uncompromising stand when it comes to actually letting taxpayers keep more of what they earn.

Total cost of "stimulus" package per American family? $10,520.

This video from our friends up north does a good job illustrating what Obama's economic plans will mean for your pocketbook:

Spending + unwillingness to cut taxes = Canada.

11 HE PROMISED! 95% of Americans will get a tax cut. I swore up and down he would cut our taxes which apparently meant that he would end welfare reform. The Manchurian Candidate has begun his reveal. How long before the hypnotized learn they aren't getting their free stuff? Or will the media just "explain" it to them in terms they can embrace?

12 This is great news if the Republicans have the spine to go hard now.

They need to bypass the media and do some commercials or internet ads spotlighting a Republican approach of letting people keep their money and tax breaks for investment and business which creates jobs and will help restore the value of 401ks.

Compare this to BO's give-away to failed businessmen, cronies, and special interests. Compare this to BO's plan of endless debt for our children and children's children.

This should be an easy argument to win even if you don't win this particular battle. The waste and corruption of this turd will soon make itself known. As a bonus - the clear exposure of corruption and cronyism should lead to an easy revisiting of the Dim destruction of the housing market and the economy via FM/FM and the anti- """""""redlining""""""(extra scare quotes) laws.

The GOP can reap the rewards politically in a walk by 2010.

Yep. He only rode that white horse with flag in hand about 10,000x. Lying f-ing bastard. Good grief, I don't know if my blood pressure can take this deceitful, lying sack of shit for 4 years. What are we going to do to survive?? I have a very, very bad feeling that things will never be the same for this great, magnificent country. And not for the better. We simply are not going to be able to recover and turn the liberal tide around. Not with Barry, Reid & Pelosi doing everything they can to destroy what has made this country great...not with the soft, unprinciples "republicans" that are supposedly working for us. We are well and truly fucked.

Didn't Obama, you know, promise tax cuts during the election? 95% of americans or something?

Yeah, my wife was wondering why I was voting against Obama when we would have received a bigger tax cut under Obama than McCain. Perhaps she now understands: I didn't believe he was really going to cut taxes. I didn't see how he could with all the spending he proposed.

Plus, to be perfectly honest, regardless of what I personally pay in taxes, I really, really don't like the idea of having more and more of the tax burden fall on fewer and fewer people. Obama's plan would have resulted in that, while McCain's would not have. So, unless Obama plans on cutting taxes across the board, I'd probably just rather he didn't at all. Plus, it gives Republicans something to run against him on in 4 years.

You mean we probably can't abort our way to prosperity?

Republicans should hang this idiocy around Obama/Pelosi's necks like millstones. They should mention every day, twice a day, that Obama/Pelosi believe that paying for abortions in foreign countries constitutes "stimulus" for the American economy. They should offer Democrats numerous opportunities to explain how this works.

They should also be asking what Democrats plan to do to help American businesses recover. Democrats have no plans to help American businesses, they're only solution is for the government to hire millions of people. This is sheer insanity, and we should strap this lunacy to their backs, as well.

The GOP needs to start running ads entitled "Where's your tax cut?"

Ask the question with a voiceover while showing a blue collar worker paying his bills in frustration.

Then, list all the things that Obama thought would be a better use of YOUR money...funding for ACORN, experimental carbon capture technology, tranfer payments to weatherize low income homes..

Cut to Obama talking about sacrifice and spreading the wealth.

Then have the worker look up from his bills and tell his kid, "We're just not going to have enough money to send you to college next year."

Was this part of the stimulus package?

TAGAB VALLEY, Afghanistan – U.S. commanders on Tuesday traveled to a poor Afghan village and distributed $40,000 to relatives of 15 people killed in a U.S. raid, including a known militant commander. The Americans also apologized for any civilians killed in the operation.

A raid the night of Jan. 19 killed 15 people in Inzeri, including a targeted militant commander named Mullah Patang.

Afghan officials admit that Patang was killed, but villagers say civilians also died and have pressed their complaints with U.S. officials and Karzai.

The U.S. regularly makes payments to Afghan relatives of those killed in operations, but the payments are rarely publicized.

Until now.

Ok, so our entire election process is now reduced to listening to the candidates, and voting for the one that uses the correct code words.  If I'm raised Dem, then I'm listening for freedom of choice and the person who uses the phrase "tax cuts for the rich" in a derogatory way.  If I'm raised Rep, I'm listening for "vote for me or you'll be boofed up the boffin".

If it's so damn great, let the Dems do it on their own nad have them get total ownership over this one way disaster. Dems are too afraid to not have cover. They to know the stimulus is total shit just like the rest of us do.

It's simple, come reelection time, I will vote in any Republican or Democrat that votes no for this liberal boondoggle. Any Dem or Repub. that votes in favor of it, I will actively campaign (for the first time in my life) for his opponenet. The One’s propaganda minister is giving a press briefing on the “stimulus pork package”.  A reporter asked him if he would get Republican support and what things, if any, did he put in the package to encourage compromise.

He spoke for about 2 minutes in which he gave the normal skittle shitting hopey changy message and never answered the question. She finally asked again. He then said we will get “some” Republican support and still did not answer the question. Another reporter specifically asked about tax cuts and he ducked that question.

LOL, how long will the press continue to kiss his ass when his chief propaganda minister will never answer a question.

I also noted NOT one question started with “Given that” as was common at Bush press briefings.

This is slightly off-topic, but the closest post I could find.

I'm starting to think Treasury Secretary Geithner could be the gift that keeps on giving.  We can take a tactical lesson from the left and protest this guy every place he goes.  The signs and banners write themselves.  Geithner: Tax Cheat.  Only Little People Pay Taxes.  Geithner's Got What it Takes to Take What You've Got.

And it's all true enough that it's only a tactical lesson, not a lowering to their moral standards.  The only problem is practical, finding enough conservatives with free time on their hands to do it.  But I honestly think this is a meme that we should get out there, one way or another, and hammer for as long as Geithner is in office.  Barry the Boy Wonder wants us all to pay our soon-to-rise taxes faithfully, and he chooses a tax cheat for his collector because the man plays for his team and is too big an intellectual to worry about such pedestrian concerns.  Screw 'em both sideways.
