| Rules for Radicals and Limbaugh: "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."Limbaugh responds to Obama's bait. To make the argument about me instead of his plan makes sense from his perspective. Obama's plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR's New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would also simultaneously seriously damage any hope of future tax cuts. It would allow a majority of American voters to guarantee no taxes for themselves going forward. It would burden the private sector and put the public sector in permanent and firm control of the economy. Put simply, I believe his stimulus is aimed at re-establishing "eternal" power for the Democrat Party rather than stimulating the economy because anyone with a brain knows this is NOT how you stimulate the economy. If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of this TRILLION dollar debacle. Obama was angry that Merrill Lynch used $1.2 million of TARP money to remodel an executive suite. Excuse me, but didn't Merrill have to hire a decorator and contractor? Didn't they have to buy the new furnishings? What's the difference in that and Merrill loaning that money to a decorator, contractor and goods supplier to remodel Warren Buffet's office? Either way, stimulus in the private sector occurs. Are we really at the point where the bad PR of Merrill getting a redecorated office in the process is reason to smear them? How much money will the Obamas spend redecorating the White House residence? Whose money will be spent? I have no problem with the Obamas redoing the place. It is tradition. 600 private jets flown by rich Democrats flew into the Inauguration. That's fine but the auto execs using theirs is a crime? In both instances, the people on those jets arrived in Washington wanting something from Washington, not just good will. If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of the trillion dollar debacle. One more thing, Byron. Your publication and website have documented Obama's ties to the teachings of Saul Alinksy while he was community organizing in Chicago. Here is Rule 13 of Alinksy's Rules for Radicals: "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."Meanwhile, the stimulus is larded up with provisions such as $4.19 billion for "community stabilization" -- a slush fund for ACORN and other far-left groups. Thanks to CJ. Comments1

I also love him for using the word "Democrat" instead of "Democratic" (the latter being a massive, pulsating, throbbing irritating pet peeve when used in the context of describing the Democract party). Posted by: ECM at January 26, 2009 12:59 PM (q3V+C) 5

I'm not a listener of Rush's radio program, but like the comment above, whenever I read something he's said, I walk away having learned something new and useful. I draw the conclusion that Rush is a very smart, educated man, who does his research and truly knows what he is talking about. He seems to put together what he says very carefully, which is evident in the times that he has to restate and defend his statements against someone that misunderstood or didn't hear him right. Obama has quite likely bitten off more than he can chew by attacking Rush. Obama may try to gloss past this once he realizes that he is on the losing end of a battle here, but something tells me that Rush isn't going to let this go anytime soon... Republicans need to denounce the me-too-ism of John McCain and reawaken the conservative activism that was Ronald Reagan. Until the minority party grows a pair and starts meeting fire with fire we're all in serious danger. Perhaps it's time for Newt to get back in the game - we need someone, and right now, who has the smarts and savvy to take on Nancy, Barry and the rest of Commie, Inc., and beat them. These people will stop at nothing short of full-blown socialism. Toads like McCain and his buttboy Lindsey Graham are everything that's wrong with the GOP. Has anyone noticed that there has been NO comment whatsoever on this by National Review since the news of this broke? Rush's response was even sent to Bryon York, which he posted at NRO, and still NO comment from any writer at their blog. No comment at all? None of these people has even the smallest of opinions on the President of the United States actually telling the opposition party, which is supposedly supported by the people at National Review, who it should not listen to if it wants to get things done???
Why????? Did a memo go out from them mirroring Obama's message to the Republicans telling them that they shouldn't listen to Rush either? How can all of them, in lockstep it seems, be silent on this?
They, of course, have already commented on Bill Kristol's departure from the NYT, but have nothing to say about what Obama said to Republicans or about Rush's response to it?
Can National Review, along with Bill Kristol, please give up the label Conservative already. They don't know what it means anymore and, if they still do, they don't have the spines or the courage to stick up for it in this New Era of Hope and Change!

The thought of ACORN and other "community action groups" getting billions of taxpayer dollars sickens me. How is ACORN supposed to stimulate the economy. At some point along the increasing package size, you reach a tipping point between sensible and flat out bug-fuggin' crazy. ACORN isn't going to spend that money on the economy. They're going to spend it on counterfeiting votes for the next election.

Its been brought up dozens of times right here on this blog. Yes.We.Will Yeah, I know. I brought it up before too before Ace (I think) said to calm down on the revolution talk. Not sure why he feels so leary about talking about it. I look at it this way: it is becoming more and more evident that Democrats are putting measures into place that will leave them with a permanent super-majority with entitlements, bailouts, class-warfare, Congressional and Senate rule changes, and the support of Hollywood and the MSM. How do you fight against handouts when there's a line around the block of people waiting to pick up their check? How do you even frame an arguement against that when there are so many people who simply don't understand how the real-world economy works? How do you convince people that blowing another trillion dollars (mostly into the pockets of Dem interests) that it's a supremely bad idea when you've got everyone so nervous they're willing to say "just let them have it"? The answer: you can't. You can't fight the tide of so many people waiting with their hand stretched out for that stimulus check. The urge to do nothing and wait for some of that sweet, sweet government money is just too powerful to combat. You can't reason against people's selfishness. As long as a politician can make a promise to bring them a check is made, you can never break from that kind of thinking. It's the tyrrany of the majority that the Founding Fathers warned against. We're already on this road and I don't see anything that could stop it. The GOP is too weak and squishy to even try. The majority of public opinion is perfectly fine with redistribution of wealth. The passage of the stimulus package is all but a formality now. I say again, the only thing that could even remotely turn us away from this road is revolution. Honestly, I don't know. I'm just saying there's nothing to stop the Dem juggernaut right now before we plunge into permanent socialism. I say again, the only thing that could even remotely turn us away from this road is revolution. Honestly, I don't know. I'm just saying there's nothing to stop the Dem juggernaut right now before we plunge into permanent socialism. The reason for the stimulus package and free money and lots of pork has little to do with improving the economy - instead it's to prevent revolution. Keep the masses happy. Give them their TV's and Wii's. Keep people placated enough that they don't riot. Remember Paulson warning that there would be martial law if the first TARP didn't go through? Iceland's government is collapsing and they are having new elections early because of the unreast there. There is a lot of unrest in China and other countries. All these governments are just trying to stay in power, not fix the economy. A reporter in South Korea was taken to court by the government for slander for talking about financial troubles of a large company there. Will it happen here? Looks like it might - with Obama attacking Rush - within a week of being President. Get ready for FDR verion 2.0 - with another giant leap into more Federal Government control of Everything. This actually gives me a moment of optimism. Invoking Rush to libs is like brandishing a cross at a vampire. Obama knows this and overreaching already, thinks everyone who voted for him will have this same reflex negative reaction if he can attach the Limbaugh name to it. I don't think that is the case. Rush has a big enough megaphone and following that the more attention Obama draws to Limbaugh, the more attention Rush will attract, and the more people will listen to his show, even if it is just to see what the fuss is about. At least some of the 30 of 52 are not total Obamabots. And like it or not, if anyone with an iota of willingness to hear both sides of the story hears what Rush has to say, they are going to get a powerful blast of logical, conservative ideology. Some may tune in closely and some even, GASP, may become Dittoheads ( or Morons?). The last time a lefty tried to use Rush in this way was when Harry Reid tangled with him a few months ago, and that did not go well for the dingy one. If he had been a Republican he would have been pretty near hooted out of office by the late night comics and media hounds. I'm not saying Rush is all-powerful, but if you're a lefty, the last thing you want to do is somehow let Rush somehow draw you on to his playing field where you have to engage in a battle of ideas. This brings to mind the beef lobby suing Oprah a while back. Not a great choice of targets. Posted by: RM at January 26, 2009 03:10 PM (XWJh5) 69

You know, I seem to remember that when Ari Fleischer said something like "people should watch what they say" the left was up in arms about infringing on freedom of speech, McBushitler Halliburton Gitmostein was shredding the Constitution. Here, the sitting US President is denigrating a radio talk show host. Waiting for the howls of outrage at Barry O's "storm-trooper" tactics.
Substitute Bush saying something like this, with "Air America" substituted for "Rush Limbaugh", and, ... well, I guess there would've been uproarious laughter, since everyone knows that nobody listens to Air America. Posted by: ronnie dobbs at January 26, 2009 03:32 PM (DZmDA) 74

In all fairness, keeping AoS more or less on track is a task to make Hercules groan. Given an inch, posters will take a mile. This includes the usual ethnic slurs and definitely talk of revolution. Filthy Scandis? This is OK, but "ragheads" is naughty. Go figure. Some retard actually accused me of racism for Paki-bashing. Pakistanis are a race? News to me. I understand Ace is late for his estrogen injection, and why the confusing policy on ethnic slurs. Sooner or later some jackass is going to post stuff from Storm Front or similar shithead sites. Armchair revolutionaries in their cups would post death threats against politicians and Ace would wind up in the bag for it. The blog would be shut down. Trolls post all kinds of shit here and attempt to lay it at Ace's feet. Did I mention Barry the Dickhead has a new inflatable Lenin Love Doll? You can bet the wanker is on the phone to Andy Sullivan begging for a hot beef injection. Seriously, Obama is one of the most humorless sperm banks I have ever seen. He is toast for anyone willing to ridicule him. Posted by: Shaitan at January 26, 2009 03:46 PM (65WaW) 80
Just stating the obvious, but, if they REALLY were concerned and wanted to REALLY stimulate the economy, they wouldnt be giving tax dollars to failing businesses, so that they can go ahead and fail a few months later. They would give actual tax payers a break on their freaking taxes for a couple of years. Geezus. When Im outta money, I dont get to keep writing checks. They need to quit giving fucking money away.

I think he's just using "listening to Rush Limbaugh" as a pejorative way of saying "subscribe to conservative political beliefs". You can't oppose anti-business policies and get things done. You can't object to unrestricted federal funding for infanticide and get things done. You can't be depressed by the fact that we chose Presidents now based on a national reaction-formation syndrome and an Oprah endorsment and get things done. You can't stop counting votes after all of the legitimate votes have been counted and get things done. You can't just speak English and get things done. You can't advocate stronger border security and get things done. You can't continue to take purchase 90% of the world's resources raw materials, and expect the world to say OK, we will contine to allow you to buy our fucking chromium ore so that we can get money to buy manufactured goods and fucking food. You can't let the fatcats build refineries and power plants and get things done. You can't let drug companies make enough profits to be able to fund their own research without government subsidies and get things done. You should all just listen to John "Disloyalty for the sake of disloyalty" McCain, not Rush Limbaugh.

Speaking of Rush (the band), I checked their website for info on 2009 tour dates (we can hope), and instead find that their radio friendly "Closer to the Heart" has been named by a Canadian news site as a song describing the Canadian newfound (no pun intended) love for Obama. If endorsed by the members of Rush, this reflects a sea change for a band that dedicated the 1970s opus 2112 to Ayn Rand. I might add that the lyrics for "Closer to the Heart" describe each individual working to the best of their abilities in whatever field they choose, not pledging to serve the Unicorn king. That's fine and dandy for the trolls, but I'm not one of them. And for the record, I've never ever insinuated that someone, anyone, pick up a rifle or throw a bomb like those goatsc.x ass-fuckers over at DailyKos. I'm not about to start spewing armed revolution type shit here and get Ace in trouble. What I'm concerned about is the trend toward insignificance of the GOP, or at least a two-party democracy. With the Dems locking up the poor, minority, and illegal alien vote with their buyout policies, it is looking very unlikely that Republicans, Libertarians, or any party in the center getting control again to stop this crap. Clinton constantly whined about Rush and Hillary screached about the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. If they're so sure that they're right, why do they come unglued when 10 percent of the available media isn't on the O Train.

I may disappear after posting this because I'm about to commit heresy. If so, just forward my mail to the nearest reeducation camp.
FDR's "New Deal" did not end the Great Depression. In fact, many of his lamebrain programs actually prolonged it. All FDR did, as noted elsewhere in your posts today, was ensure Democrats retained power for decades. There were more conservative newspapers back then but liberals still dominated the news business and they did for FDR what Chris Matthews and the other Sisters of the Tingly Legs are doing for Obama: they greased the way. FDR was even able to pack the Supreme Court which up until then had blocked some of his more adventurous programs. What ended the Great Depression was World War II. The government essentially took over vital industries but the same people who ran them before the war ran them during the war. Factories went through major upgrades to handle the increased production demands of the war. That expanded production was intact after the war because unlike the rest of the world the US escaped any major war damage to its infrastructure. After the war, much of the world's industrial infrastructure was in ruin. The US was in a unique position and both foreign and domestic demand ensured full employment for the returning GIs. US exports have probably never been higher than during that period shortly after World War II. The Soviets plundered East Germany -- stripped it bare. The US, almost alone, directly and indirectly rebuilt not just West Germany but much of Western Europe. I'm sure some senior Democrats are aware of these facts despite what they may say or publish for moron consumption. Perhaps that is what they have planned for Afghanistan but I doubt it. Today's contemporary to 1930s Germany is Iran -- so, gentlemen, look to the Middle East to be the Next World War. Democrats do not win nor lose graciously and today they have tingly legs to go along with flophouse table manners. To the younger morons who haunt AoS -- even AllahPundit would find religion in those future foxholes. Good luck and happy shooting. Just remember you'll be doing it so people like Nancy Pelosi can remain in power. Posted by: prairiemain at January 26, 2009 08:53 PM (uDqa7) 91

No-one seems to be addressing Rush Limbaugh's racism (or it's being dismissed as a joke) :
Limbaugh: ". I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark." If I was a racist asshole, I too would miss slavery. "You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed. " Racism is not a big part of Limbaugh's presentation, but it's there, and Obama has indirectly called the Republican's on their on-going tolerance of it. Those who rally to Limbaugh's side will discredit themselves, and the Republican party if the numbers are large. Shaitan@79: Just thought you should know, the phrase "Paki-bashing" in England, where it has a particular meaning - it's what the BNP (England's neo-nazi white supremacist party) and ideologically-affiliated skinheads' used to call going out on the streets and 'bashing' non-whites with fists, boots and weapons. Oh amd Posted by: o.u. at January 26, 2009 09:36 PM (tUhHb) 93

cheshirecat, if you can come up with similar large number of "out-of-context" quotes from people like the Dalai Lama, or more relevantly, say Reagan or the Bushes - do so. I don't think you can back up your claim, though.
By the way, intrigued, I did a search of that site for "Booty", but I was disappointed - couldn't find that article - most of the articles seemed to be about politics. Now that question's going to be nagging me all day. Rush Limbaugh: "You know racism in this country is the exclusive province of the left." The evidence is that racism exists in both left & right, in both black and white etc. Limbaugh's statement is just flat-out BS. If you've got a valid point to make, why blow it and marginalise yourself by exaggerating to the point of distortion? Or is that what stokes Rush's audience? (Link to the quote above, from a radio interview with Hannity, to provide both context and tone, which I agree are important). IMO Limbaugh is kind of a racist, and his political commentary is second-grade and shoddy. There's plenty of other, much better, conservative pundits who don't come with Rush's bluster and bullshit. Posted by: o.u. at January 27, 2009 07:23 AM (UT56W) 101
Maybe someone already pointed this out, but the President's criticism of Rush sounds like a tacit approval and message to both House and Senate majorities to put the "Fairness Doctrine" on the fast track.
