| Depressing: Obama Declares "I Won" as He Blows off Promise to Govern in a Bipartisan WayStealing from Hot Air again, because this is too depressing to write about myself. As for Allah's comment that there's nothing the GOP can do -- in practical terms, he's right. But the liberals couldn't do anything -- or much -- from 2002-2006, but they managed to do an awful lot to undermine the president. We can do the same, albeit in a more positive way; that is, rather than pure childish carping and sniping, we can continue offering sober counterproposals. Will we "win" on them? No, not yet. But we have to highlight -- incessantly -- crap like the hundreds of millions of dollars for "contraceptive stimulus," as Boehner does here. We do not have the media with us. Obviously. But our leaders still have to get the word out, to the extent they can.Comments1
Yeah, elections have consequences. I try to keep telling myself that. If Obama destroys our financial sovlency (or rather finishes the job), it is because people enabled him to do it. So be it. Let the trainwreck commence... Posted by: doug at January 23, 2009 03:13 PM (I6iFS) 2
When Bush did (and he did from time to time) similar things, wasn't that a dread invocation of the IMPERIAL PRESIDENCY WHO LORDS OVER US ALL?

I agree -- it's hard to believe this arrogance isn't going to turn off a lot of the people who would have otherwise been on his side. In just a few short days, an utter lack of humility seems to color everything he says and does. Does he really believe all these career politicians are so impressed by him that they'll embrace this behavior? Cause I don't think so . . . I'm surprised he didn't come tight out and say "neener neener neener" to the Republicans. Democrats would do well to remember the years 1976-80. Not just because of Obama being a probable Jimmy Carter redux, but Republicans got their shit together in Congress during that time, especially after 1978 when the wheels really started coming off the economy. They first proposed an across-the board income tax rate cut in 1978 -- that was not Reagan's idea originally, it was Jack Kemp's. And they repeatedly made Democrats vote against it. The history will be written by Messiah's disciples and they will remind you, literally everyday, that had St. Barry Rainbowshanks not taken control and did what he did, we would have been ten times worse off. Ok, now is everyone ready to listen to my idea about stabbing this guy and the Dems in the back? It is time for some tough love. No more of this "we can't let the country fail" crap. Here is the first step. Turbo tax. It is our friend. If you have use it then help all your friends who don't have it use it. If you know how to do your taxes do yourself and then help your friends do them theirselves. Why you ask? Well boys and girls the tax industry is one of the few "recession proof" things out there. Our job is to make it not so "recession proof" any more. It cost my wife and I just over $200.00 last year to do our taxes. Multiply that out by say 100,000 people. That is alot of cash. Now just imagine if we can get conservatives to do their own taxes the tax industry will go belly up. Not to good for the Big O to have a massive failure like that right out of the gates now is it. Next, NO MORE MOVIES! Stay home with the family, read a book, get drunk with friends (not at the bar either stay home!). We need to blunt any positive effect the stimulus has before it can even begin. Posted by: southdakotaboy at January 23, 2009 04:01 PM (TC4J/) 46

This'll make him easier for a conservative challenger to beat in 2012, right? Isn't that right? Lie to me if necessary. Put it this way. On the third day of his presidency he felt compelled to remind people that "[he] won". I'm pumped about this because he looks like a collalsel fool right now. I don't mind NHL players going to bars with the Stanley cup and showing it off. That's what you're supposed to do with the cup. But a President that is compelled to remind people in government that he won the election is pretty fucking stupid. Posted by: Gabriel Sutherland at January 23, 2009 04:06 PM (AHrTm) 50

The flip flop on Gitmo, the abbortion ban flip flop...all of it is red herring meant to distract us from this...the money.Obama doesn't care about Americans killed in terrorists attacks, He doesn't care about Terroists being tortured. What he cares about is being ruler of the world and as long as he makes sure WE stay divided and distracted against each other, we will not be united against HIM. Wre had the sqame exact racial divides, and class divides right now that we have had for years and until Sept. when the market crashed, we were prospering for quite a long time. But he doesn't want you to remember that, he wants infighting among the citizens so you forget about this.
It's all about the money. Money makes the world go around and once he has stripped this country, all is lost. He's a narccicist with Megalomania levels of Hitler, Stalin and their ilk. he only cares about ruling all. Those on the left, he angers by saying he isnt gonig to close gitmo. Then he angers those on the right saying he is. He is playing all of us against each other. He's all for racial unity and then gives a backhanded compliment meant to whip blacks and whites against each other.Same thing with low, middle and upper class. He is playing both ends against the middle so no one pays close enough attention to the money. He tried scare tactcis to get us to accept this BS stimulus, he tried bribery with tax cuts to good to be true. If he can't get us to accept it, he distracts us with something else to keep us from looking at what is really going on or actually uniting against it despite how we feel about other issues.....He is using ALL of us Posted by: Tom Hanks at January 23, 2009 04:17 PM (hphNR) 53

#66 - I think there were plenty of conservatives that marginalized McCain at the ballot box last November and now I am glad they did. I intended to be one myself but everytime Obama opened his mouth I told myself, anyone but him. I know, that doesn't solve the problem of how to marginalize him now. But it gives me "hope" that someone - several someones, will step up in the next election cycle. It's sad, but people have to really hurt before they take notice. Look at the number of voters. Wasn't anywhere near what was predicted, quite ordinary in fact. Same with the turnout at the inauguration. If you can't tell the difference between the message of two candidates a lot of people will stay home and say, "Why bother?" Posted by: RB at January 23, 2009 06:22 PM (ewXBY) 81

Better headline for the linked story?
"Boehner concerned about growing package size, contraceptives necessary for stimulus?" "How can you spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives?" Boehner asked. "How does that stimulate the economy?" Boehner said congressional Republicans are also concerned about the size of the package. Pelosi suggested that the package . . . could become even larger. "It has grown," Pelosi said, "and we're still in the process." " Contraceptives? Boehner? Stimulate? Package size (and growing larger!)? Politics is dirty, very dirty. Why are you depressed? Don't you see the immense opportunities for delicious humor here? I can just see a nicely crafted video going viral, asking the average taxpayer how they like the fact, that in the midst of the worst economic downturn since the Depression, President Obama is spending $800,000,000 of your hard earned dollars on RUBBERS for FOREIGNER! RUBBER for FOREIGNERS. That needs legs. Posted by: Hrolf at January 23, 2009 07:40 PM (fsyjx) 91

"Ya know, sad as this is... incidents like this actually force me into a kind of grudging respect for the Democrats. Sure, they're a bunch of lousy anti-American cockholsters, but at least they fight." I don't think Dems actually fight. What they do is cheat and employ the double standard, Chicago-style ground game approach...which actually looks like fighting but is nothing more than a slick, slight of hand, dirty political trick. They couldn't actually fight their way out of paper bag. Anyone notice in the big o's inaug-harangue he said "Christians and Muslims" and then..."Jews" ... That was one heck of an intentional slam.

How my ASS taste, you repub honky? The best ad any repub needs is 30 seconds of "I won", I won, I Won", repeated over and over for 15-30 seconds. Repubs should stand back and simply vote PRESENT on every fucking issue. Posted by: hutch1200 at January 23, 2009 11:31 PM (9aAKh) 94
Let's just break this fucker up.
The libtards can take the top half of the country and all of California, we'll take fly-over country and the south. It won't take long till their starving and crossing our borders illegally screaming about their human rights. Elections have consequences, but a fucked up economy has bigger consequences. So, the Dems think they can cure the economy's problems with their Viagra Stimulus plan? See y'all in 2010 at the ballot box.

B Hussein signed an executive order to start using our tax dollars to fund abortions in other countries. That's real f*n bipartisan. We are asshole deep in debt and getting deeper, half the country including me are against abortion and the proabortion peckerwoods can't kill enough babies in our own country so they take my money and use it to kill babies around the world. These are the most hateful SOBs on earth and not particularly bright. Why the hell would you pick this fight. Reminds me of putting a stick in a wolverines ass and shaking it to see what happens. Asshole Posted by: Dan at January 24, 2009 06:19 AM (ygjiI) 98
You know what? He's right. He won. He and the Democrats won.
Elections have consequences. For the next two years he gets his way, and he and the Democrats are responsible for everything that happens, good or bad. Republicans should not get roped in to endorsing what Obama wants to do just to be nice and bipartisan. He doesn't need our votes. To the extent that he wants them, it's because he wants to immunize himself from criticism in 18 and 42 months when he has to defend his record. Screw that. He won. Now he owns everything that happens. Posted by: Masturbatin' Pete at January 24, 2009 07:04 AM (LSGb3) 99
Democrats want to kill babies? You know, I was under the impression that it was the mother's choice. Democrats simply want to ensure that the government doesn't prance around and regulate their bodily processes into oblivion. Call us enablers, but we'll respond with the simple truth that we believe a woman has the right to use her own conscience to make critical decisions.
Your churches are tax-exempt, but I don't hear you whining about the loony religious institutions shielding themselves. I believe we could handle the funding of such clinics. Fair trade, eh? But kindly continue with calling Obama "Hussein", Republicans. See how well that works with attracting minorities in critical swing states. Continue to be the party of "smaller government" contradictions (you know, the party that wants to regulate marriage, a function of society, a woman's body, and medicinal drugs?) and anti-immigration rhetoric. You had a Republican Congress and President Bush until the Democrats took control. I didn't see any significant economic resuscitation when The Anti-Choice Buffoons were running the circus. Posted by: Matthew at January 24, 2009 07:06 AM (CVu8N) 100
Oh, and to the fundies that are whining about Obama not using the Bible at his second swearing-in: the Bible he made use of the first time was on loan. Even so, where is the requirement for the POTUS to use a religious book at his swearing-in? Does that somehow invalidate his presidency?
What a joke. Posted by: Matthew at January 24, 2009 07:09 AM (CVu8N) 101

So what that the MSM is on his side? After February when we go digital, I see about 15% of the Dems electoral getting zilch from NBC/CBS/ABC. And the way newspapers are going they won't get much there anymore either. Its the new media - cable, satellite, internet - that will rule the politics of the future. That is where morons, cons, goths and other miserable but correct souls will dwell and achieve. Arrogant assholes like mr. empty will just be one of the crowd.
Posted by: Jack is Back! at January 24, 2009 10:21 AM (V7okU) 105
He did win. He got elected with a majority of the peoples' votes, and more Democrats won seats in congress, the people have spoken. They'll see eventually how dumb that was, but they did vote him in and while he was obviously lying through his teeth about bipartisanship and healing and so on just like Nancy Pelosi was, that's just the facts.

Crossposted, for Great Justice:
The Republicans need to actually be the opposition party. This stimulus package is being used as a grab bag for every liberal idea of the last 20 years. The Democrats have decided that no emergency should be wasted. Fine. Two can play that game. This recession, and the Democrats response to it, should be a godsend to Republican fiscal conservatives (hoping that some do still exist) and we should let it pass unexploited. Lets use the emergency to get what we have wanted. We, and they, should keep stressing the point that we are going to have a $1,000,000,000,000.00 budget deficit, even before the stimulus. Any expenditure that can be avoided needs to be eliminated. Just Zero It Out. Family planning money for foreigners? Don't argue about whether it pays for abortions. We don't have the money, it doesn't help our citizens, and it doesn't help our foreign policy goals. Zero it out. NEA grants? Art is fine but WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY. Don't argue about whether the art is offensive, Zero It Out. Government programs that haven't worked (and I'm looking at you Department of Education)? Zero It Out. The possibilities are endless.
