Saying Thank You To President Bush

bushthanks.jpg

Leave your note here.

I found this at LGF who says the organizers will be delivering the comments to the President at his library on 9/11/11 (which I'm guessing is the dedication/opening date).

1 So how much does anyone want to bet that this will end up being just another bucket of Dubya-hate in the comment section?

Posted by: Hoss Fuentes at January 20, 2009 09:52 PM (QWAKu)

2 Thank you for posting this, Drew!  And, Hoss, the comments are reviewed prior to being put up on the site, so there will be NO hate comments at all.

3 You chimp, Hoss. That's just what you want me to do... W rocks!

4 Sockpuppet off.

Go to your rest, W. Enjoy the fact that your enemies will be unable to disgorge the bile they've produced over the last eight years.

5 Thank you Mr. President.  I may not have agreed with you on everything, but your heart was in the right place.  And you put the American people first.  I hope you and Laura get to enjoy the ranch and eventually the grandkids.

6 CB-Maybe it's just the liberal bullcrap fatigue talking, but I have the feeling that whoever's job that is may be in for some long days.  At my office, I think there may be 1.5 maybe even 2 out of 20 people that don't consider Bush to be the bane of their existence and Obama to be Jesus cubed.  I'm just burned out from all the crap (think Jay Nordlinger's "My Kingdom for a Safe Zone" article).  Maybe it's just being a Southern boy transplanted to the Northeast.

Dear George,

I hope that Cindy Shehan comes to visit you at Crawford. And a blizzard hits and she dies of exposure. Slowly.

Sorry, but I haven't forgiven and I haven't forgotten.

8 I really hope that's not the opening date of the library but just the date the organizers have chosen to show up.

You weren't the best you could have been, but you did a dam' good job considering the vagaries of the last eight years.

Short history- as defined by the leftards- will judge you harshly; but I believe the 'long view' will bear you out in the course of time.

God bless you and your lady, and enjoy your retirement. We Americans are the better for your administration.

13 There are a few things that I disagreed with President Bush on. One or two vehemently (immigration?). That aside, he is a truly decent man, deserving of our respect and thanks for keeping the Islamic scum at bay for 8 years - no mean feat. The public at large neither knows nor likely cares about the acts of kindness done anonymously by this man - which is how he wants it, I suspect.

Thank you Mr. President, and thank you Laura for being the classiest First Lady in recent memory.

14 This site has been posted on a lot of websites just in the last couple of hours.  I suspect President Bush will be seeing it long before 9/11/11.  And, yeah, it's a labor of love for the folks who will be screening the comments.  I'm grateful to them for doing this.

Posted by: CB at January 20, 2009 10:08 PM (9Wv2j)

15 It's amazing to me how conservatives of all stripes are rallying around GW here at the end.  When he flew off in the helicopter I got misty-eyed, me a person who always felt he put too much emphasis on the "compassionate" part of "compassionate conservative."  I also opposed him on going into war with Iraq (though I later reluctantly got onboard).

But watching him today I got the feeling we were witnessing the loss of true leader.

God bless him.

21 I may have missed it in a previous thread, but did anyone notice that the foreign policy portion of Obama's speech sounded an awful lot like Bush's second one?  I ask this because while I was watching the inauguration in the conference room at work (so I wouldn't look like "that douchebag" in an office chock full of liberals and because, for various reasons, I've never actually been able to watch an inauguration) there was one of my female coworkers who considers Bush to be on just this side of Satan, especially on foreign affairs, that was nodding and "um-hmm"-ing vigorously at every point Obama made as though it was gospel, having never considered that she was agreeing to Bush's positions.

I work with fucking morons.

Posted by: Hoss Fuentes at January 20, 2009 10:18 PM (QWAKu)

22 God bless you, Mr.President, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your years of service to our great country.  I may not have agreed with you 100% of the time, but no one can argue that you did the best job that you could, and did it with humility.  Again, God bless you and your family, and I hope you enjoy your retirement at your ranch.

27

Dear President Bush,

Thank you for keeping us safe for these past 7 years, for following your instincts and staying the course when it was not the choice of opinion polls. As the old saying goes, doing what is right is rarely popular, doing what is popular is rarely right.

Thank you for your cheerful smile in the face of the shameless treatment by your detractors. Of course it was never enough or about an honest disagreement of methods to achieve common ends, but about putting party above country and believing that a different opinion or perspective is reason enough to abandon deportment. I admire the way you never let it get to you. You truly looked for and expected the best of all around you....sometimes to your administrative detriment.

Your gentlemanly nature and unyielding compassion was always apparent, though at times, I felt it led you outside of some very core conservative beliefs, but this is not the time nor place.

I will leave history to blow past this Orwellian bubble in time (we hope) and show the legacy of a man who always put the American People first, made the hard decisions when he had to and leaves office with the gratitude of myself and (the majority) of my family.

Enjoy Crawford. You've earned the rest.

29 As a libertarian I believe the first function of the federal government is to protect the nation. George W. Bush did that but I have little faith that obama and his administration will do the same.

30 All of us disagreed with him on maybe more than a few points. After todays circus (where to start?) I wish I drove from Scranton (drink) to Waco to be a part of his welcome home.

Posted by: hutch1200 at January 20, 2009 10:32 PM (MJrRs)

31 I posted about this before, but the speech President Bush gave in Texas today was gracious, passionate, and demonstrated what a fundamentally decent man he is. He never said a mean spirited thing about his many enemies in public. He was never petty, and always put America ahead of his personal interest. He kept his fellow countrymen safe, saved millions from AIDS and malaria in Africa, and liberated 50 million souls from hideous tyranny. For his troubles, he was viciously slandered and demonized by small-minded, self-serving politicians. He never complained, and set an example of maturity and forbearance that should shame all that took advantage of the War on Terror for personal political gain.

Well done, Mister President! I fear it shall not be very long at all before the nation desperately wishes it had a true man of your calibre once more in the office of Washington and Lincoln.

He took the fight to our enemies and won.  When victory was in doubt and all around him called for retreat, he doubled down and Al Queda folded.  The Taliban sheltered our foes, and he summoned the political will to kick them to the curb.  Saddam violated the terms of the cease-fire and was demolished.  All followed a simple formula: transgress against the US - pay the price.  Our enemies lost at a rate of ten to one (if not more) and lie shattered as a result.  The formula is changed in the Middle East and a free Iraq is the catalyst.

In the area of war, Bush has no equal as a president.  None have accomplished as much as he did for so small a cost in blood and treasure.  For that, we were blessed.  History will be kind to him.

51 The guy is a near legend as far as I'm concerned. He inherited an emaciated military, broken and disorganized intelligence services and a jihadist threat that had been allowed to spread around the world by his predecessor who was little more than a potted plant. Unlike most people I have never forgotten 9/11 and am stunned that we were not hit again. The two front ass whipping that he delivered to AQ combined with the fact that he has introduced more liberalism and democracy into the Arab Middle East than all other world leaders in history combined at bare minimal cost is an accomplishment of gigantic proportions.

59 "Alaska and Texas can form our own union, with whatever Red States want to join us!"

There probably could be a corridor clear through: Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Montana maybe, definitely Idaho and Utah, and then pick up a couple of the more decent Canadian provinces -- Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and then maybe connect through a chunk of that Inuit-land that used to be Northwest Territories and Yukon.

And I suppose most of the old Confederacy would want in, too -- as well as 90% of the rural and half the suburban counties from the rest of the US....

Maybe it'd be easiest to sort of jettison all the cities -- call them "Meterosexualia" or "Urbania" or something -- and then we could call the rest of us something like "America."

Here is a thanks for him. Thanks for legitimizing a socialist tax payer bailout of failing businesses and prolonging any economic recovery for several years. Thanks for signing off on promiscuous government spending to the point that Republicans could no longer claim fiscal responsibility as an election issue. Thanks for going silent on the importance of the invasion of Iraq and letting the opposition define the issue ( an unforgivable sin for a war time president). And thanks for pissing off your own party at the same time by nominating Harriet Meirs and opposing rational immigration reform. Oh, and thanks for your pathetic performance which made an Obama presidency possible.

7 out of the last 10 presidential terms have been served by Republicans, so don't get too worked up that Bush is the last pro-American / Capitalist / Republican President.  He's not.

Right now Bush is sitting in his Texas home, sipping an ice-cold martini, smiling to himself and thinking, "Wait 'til little mister President PeeWee finds out about ... yeah ... heh ... heh ... <slurp> ... hehe ..."

And he's already enjoying his retirement.  After 8 years of defeating terrorists and cutting taxes, he deserves to.

98 CB, the site is the brainchild of my biz partner. He came up with the idea over the weekend and some hours of design and programming later, it went live this AM! We decided to store all the personal comments offline and will deliver them to the G. W. B. Presidential Library. For the record, we picked Sept. 11, 2011 as the date to do that by. I don't know when the library actually opens. We figured that would be enough time to gather a TON of great comments. By then, we should published hundreds of them online already.

Wonder if some talented artist around here could design a flag for the Barbed Cock of Cheney?

114 I left my thanks to President Bush. My son was just two weeks old when 9/11 happened. I remember being numb for the rest of the day. As a father with newborn I was very concerned about his future and our country's future.

I had formerly worked one block from the WTC and had many family members who still worked there. Our family was lucky - no one was killed/injured.

When President Bush stood with that fireman and promised to get the people responsible - I believed him. He kept us safe for 7 years. I challenge President Obama to do the same - and I will pray that he does. This is one area that I hope sincerely that he succeeds.

The technical fault that led to this eight-year service outage has been located, and the software responsible was replaced November 4, 2008.. Early tests of the newly installed program indicate that we are now operating correctly, and we expect it to be fully functional on January 20, 2009. It's not so much that I really *liked* the guy; in fact, some of his positions were downright deadly to the USA (immigration romantic, bailing out the Affirmative Action Lenders and Detroit's union goons, just to name two).

But to see the Left just go unhinged makes me reflexively want to support the man.

And as the Obamunist meets his reality check and ends up *continuing* the very Bush policies that the Left can't stand, well, that's just going to be entertaining.

So long, Mr. President.

Although many in this town have already forgotten, I will always remember 9/11, when I walked home from work around noon with hundreds of thousands of others in NYC in nearly dead silence partly because there were no buses or cars in the streets and partly because we were simply stunned and afraid for both the present and the future.

I will always remember being inspired and reassured by the silence being broken by the sound of F-15s flying CAP overhead and the knowledge that more of our fighting men and women were on the way to protect us.

Your leadership and steadfastness in the face of terror has been like those F-15s (a deterrent to our enemies and a reassurance to us and our friends), and it is with great trepidation that I and my family in NYC face the possibility of a "test" of Obama that Joe Biden says will surely come.  I pray that the test never comes, but that if it does, may Obama face it with the same courage and wisdom that you did.

I did not always agree with you on fiscal policy or military strategy, but you kept our city and the entire country safe from the terrorists for seven-plus years after 9/11, and for that you have my sincerest thanks.

President Bush,

Your tenure as wartime President was difficult and filled with obstacles from the Democrats and their media hacks.  But as you pointed out, you did not tailor decisions based on popularity.

A critique:

On foreign policy:

You showed true grit and courage by ridding the planet of at least two terrorist safe-havens and the Islamofascist malignancy that held power.  You picked up the gauntlet thrown by Islamic thugs in Iraq and Afghanistan and shoved it up their asses, but overall, you were too restrained.

I wish to hell you had fought back just as hard against all of the acrid, foul-mouthed liberals who denied (READ: ignored) the reasons as to why we’re in Iraq and Afghanistan.  You could have pointed out all the news reports of the discovered WMDs (including the yellowcake Hussein supposedly never had) , and his support of terrorist groups.

http://tinyurl.com/78tm5y

You should have rammed the al Qadea and Taliban presence in both those countries down the Dem’s throats, and told them point blank, the war on Islamofascism starts there.

You should have extended that approach to the effetes in Europe who accomodate Islamic extremists within their own borders, and jeer from the sidelines rather than pitch in for the survival of Western civilization.

Long after our re-deployment, the cesspool that is the Middle East will continue to spawn the kind of excrement that viciously attacked America on 9/11.
Just as the unfinished business in Desert Storm resulted in our return, so too will leaving the rest of the terrorist nation-states in the Middle East unscathed.

I’d have leveled several Middle Eastern countries on 12 September, 2001. That is how you fight a jihad. But I’m a former Soldier, not a politician.

On domestic issues:

What disgusted me was your lax attitude on border security. You did not push hard enough for a crackdown on illegal aliens and a border fortress. Instead, you pandered to Felipe Calderon and his predecessor, Vincente Fox.

Your decision to allow your ‘dear friend’ Johnny Sutton to maliciously prosecute two Border Agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean for doing their jobs, is a travesty.

I was also sickened by your acquiescence to the union/auto industry/banking/Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae bailout crowd.

I wish you had rallied the Republican party by showing more support and returning to the tenets of the conservative base, and that of the constituents.

Having said that, John McCain lost the election even among Republicans, for those very reasons.

Bottom line: I will defend you for all of the good things you accomplished and level criticism for the things you left unfinished.

Good luck, President Bush. I wish you and your family a healthy, happy life.

Thanks to a great President, as in President Bush, for the 8 years of service under very adverse circumstances.  You were my President, I voted for you both time and would've voted again for you if I were given the opportunity.  You kept us safe, you never faltered, you kept your eyes on what was best for this great Country and responded accordingly.  You will be a hard act to follow.  You, Laura and the entire Bush family are true Americans, true to your faith and true to your Country.  You have nothing to be ashamed of - that burden is on the Democrats, who never accepted you as their President; who did not support you and threw up every stumbling block to assure that you failed.    History will judge you well and I can hardly wait for your book to be written.

God bless you and your family and may you have peace and comfort in your retirement

151 Dear Mr. President,

"Great leadership is inconvenient - thus it is incredibly rare in our self-serving culture."

Thank you for demonstrating such grace and class in the most trying of circumstances.  Those who have never carried such a burden of leadership cannot credibly criticize anything you've ever done.  The fact that you stood on your principles and convictions instead of swaying with opinion polls is reason enough for rational people to respect you whether or not they agree with you.  Fools will criticize anything that makes them uncomfortable without bothering with the rigor of a single rational thought.

I envy you now because the great burden is off your back and you are able to relax and enjoy the simple things in life which have eluded you in your official duties.  Enjoy every sunrise and quiet breakfast and ignore the newspapers and other media as much as possible.  You have earned your respite.

Thank You for everything! Goin through 2 wars, recession, and hurricanes, you truly made TEXAS proud. We're glad to have you home. And for those who have made rude comments about your sometimes dumb moments, at least you never said America had 57 states- like Obama!

I am a REBULICAN because not everyone can be on welfare!!!

thanks for bustin your butt to support our country and leaving with your head held high.......... Don't leave us in Texas ever again!

Love lots...
