| Obama Mullng Turning Army of Supporters Into His Own Private FEMAYour own... personal... FEMA... In what would be another unprecedented step, Obama's political staff is deciding whether to create a service organization that would use the vast corps of its grass-roots campaign supporters. As described by one source knowledgeable with the discussions, this nonprofit arm would be used to help victims of natural disasters, but would do so under the Obama umbrella while continuing to build the overall network's massive e-mail database.Unacceptable. Obama is seeking to create a shadow bureaucracy answerable not to the taxpayer but only to himself. Thanks to Arthur. Comments1

Reminds me of the waning days of the Roman Republic when wealthy political powerhouses would build their own private armies (politically and militarily). At least they actually had to pay for them through patronage, breads and circuses, and purchases of armaments. Now its either the public or the Obamatons themselves who pay.

Problem is that he already has it organized. They are already flooding congress with emails and phone calls pushing Obama's policies just like they did when flooding radio stations with complaints regarding anyone who disagreed with Obama. In one email request he can mobilize 2 million of his cultists to pressure people to do his bidding, shut down dissent and whatever else he wants to use them for. I am not sure how we fight that without a leader of our own to do the same thing. Got any plans for the next 4 years Ace? Posted by: robtr at January 17, 2009 02:06 PM (uJzOr) 11

Little Barry's Red Guard and the never ending campaign:
Days before he even takes the oath for his first term, Obama said Saturday that the newly created Organizing for America would enlist community organizers around the country to support local candidates, lobby for the president's agenda and remain connected with his supporters from the campaign. The entity will operate from the Democratic National Committee headquarters but will be independent in structure, budget and priorities. "As president, I will need the help of all Americans to meet the challenges that lie ahead," Obama said in a video message to supporters. "That's why I'm asking people like you who fought for change during the campaign to continue fighting for change in your communities." Posted by: TheQuietMan at January 17, 2009 02:08 PM (ZgxBm) 14
Would undoubtedly be used to conduct ACORN-style vote fraud in the next election. Remember, "community organizing" with ACORN was one of only two items on Obama's pre-election resume. The other was his Bill Ayers sponsored efforts to indoctrinate school children into radical leftism.

He's been wanting his Obama Youth something fierce for a long time now. Remember everything that was on his web site?
And his Obama elders, too. On the website, there were promises that the seniors who participated would get special health goodies and whatnot. Doesn't take much to tie it to, "If you volunteer for us, then you will get health coverage, otherwise . . ." One would think Biden, at least, is an American. But Biden has sold his soul. You know, this is all some very, very bad stuff, delivered with a smile. It's one thing to ask your supporters to write their congresspeople. It's quite another to organize an Internet army who will take instructions to get in their face, and will comply instantly, like automatons, out of loyalty to the Dear Leader. And so on. If Obama had things the way he wants them, no one would like living in our new dictatorship. I believe the man is a control freak (witness his refusal to give up his Blackberry, for but one example). It is his way or the highway, anywhere he can get away with that. Right now, he backs off where he has to, and covers himself with smiles and sweet talk. If he were dicatator of the world, I think he would be happy in the role. In fact, I think it is his fondest dream. Posted by: Alana at January 17, 2009 02:21 PM (JE2zV) 28

It's the same thing Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela. He created community committees that go over the head of local government straight to the Federal government. They get access to public works funds and apply them as the committees see fit rather than local officials. It was Chavez' way of edging out opposition and make communities beholden directly to Chavez. But of course, all it's done it create fiefdoms and increased the squalor in poor areas.

All he knows is community organizing, and he wants to bring that to a national level. I fear it's going to come to that. Maybe not immediately or even during his first or even second term. I figure sometime in his 3rd term when unemployment is 30%, inflation is 40%-50% a year (and that's a good scenario) and if we've haven't yet been bailed out by the Chinese or EU when the dollar collapses and our paper's only use is ass-wiping, then the American people will finally say, Fuck It, it's time to take our country back. When the roots of a volunteer force are a political campaign, that's what I'd expect it in some manner to continue as, whatever it's stated purpose. If it doesn't and it doesn't take public money, cool - but even if its aims are altruistic, there's the question of who it helps and who it directs its attention towards. There's also the question of what they consider problems and what sort of help they believe is necessary to address them. That could get political very easily. The key point, though, is that you could have a vast, permanent civilian force led by the President of the United States (and their loyalty would be more towards Barack, specifically, than it would another possible President) with little to no oversight taking their instructions from him. That worries me. Posted by: AD at January 17, 2009 02:48 PM (sjcEM) 61

Non-profit doesn't necessarily mean all-volunteer. As for where the money comes from, there are surely lots of ways to ensure that this organization is the final destination for fed funds. I mean, the man told us to expect trillion dollar deficits for years. The money will be there, directing it will be the easy part.
But my bet is this will never get off the ground. Community organizing is pretty much a joke at the local level. Trying to take this national? Good luck. Also doesn't help that most of his young supporters who would be ripe for something like this are worthless. I mean, can they really be expected to do anything even semi-productive? Having done my fair share of comparative political science, this sounds like the start of the American version of the Japanese "personal support network", which resulted not in fascist oppression and mass death, but rather more venal forms of governmental excess... corruption, "pay to play" contracts, graft, and garden-variety personality cults. Of course, these things can backfire... look up Tanaka Kakuei, the Japanese equivalent of Richard Nixon, for a glimpse into what might be Obama's future. Posted by: robtr Seriously, you people have to read "Liberal Fascism" by Goldberg. Specifically, the chapter on Woodrow Wilson. Wilson had his own private army. Two or three of them depending on how you count the different organizations. Let's see (just from memory because if I go to Goldberg's book I'll write a 30 paragraph note). There were the 4 minute men (over 10,000 propgaganda spouters who would go ANYWHERE and give a 4 minute speech spouting Wilson's latest line), there was a goon squad that rounded up slackers and anti-war demonstrators, there was a organization loosely attached to the Secret Service that wiretapped neighborhood phones and read local mail. And Obama, like most progressives, admire Wilson! Posted by: Arthur at January 17, 2009 03:30 PM (ynoyS) 110

There was another fellow, a long, long time ago who started with a band of merry men, loyal to him...they organized rallies, put on fundraisers, got in people's faces, and helped their guy achieve power. Then, when the time was right, he got the whole of the nation's military to swear a new oath, an oath of fealty not to the country, nor its people, nor to its constitution, rather an oath of loyalty to him and him alone. It was done for "patriotic and security reasons" -- at least that's how the plan was sold. Of course this meant that any military person or unit who even criticized this person was guilty of treason and under the code of military justice could be tried and executed -- it wasn't that hard to find them guilty. The rest of the citizenry went along (and soon themselves were under the same onus of proving their loyalty at the risk of being labeled treasonous and subversive), because for their own protection they had no guns -- and even if they did, their guns would have been no match for the military's. Besides, their media was daily showing them how much more glorious life was getting for them...and how they would soon get payback from the world which they had been told hated their country and wanted to see it weak. And truth be told, their economic/living conditions had gotten so bad in their eyes that they were desperate for someone to give them good news and a chance at living a bit better that when this fellow came along, he was wildly popular with many. And of course, there are many people who conveniently forgot all about this fellow and exactly how he rose to power, and many who reasoned away the idea of it ever happening to their own country ever -- as they were not, could not be anything at all like those people -- national "character" and all. Such a thing would of course be stopped right off the bat in their country, if it ever dared to even try...

Gee, a national leader wants his own organization set up along military lines and answerable only to him. I can't imagine why anybody would have reservations about such a thing. There is no way anything could go wrong with that.
Maybe they could be named something like the security squadrons and take twin lightning bolts in the form of "S" as their trademark. Maybe they could even be issued military equipment in case the regular army wasn't, you know, loyal enough. Posted by: Gilligan at January 17, 2009 03:49 PM (TX6eJ) 120

WASHINGTON — Judi Wortham of Nashville saw the fleece hat and had to have it, shiny and bedazzled as it was, decorated in a sparkly copy of Shepard Fairey's iconic painting of president-elect Barack Obama . "Anything that goes like this, 'bling, bling,'" she said, making blinking motions with her hands before she sat down to lunch at Old Ebbitt Grill near the White House . "Anything that's shiny. So of course I love the new president." Look at the shiny objects stupid. Brian Rizzo , 16, of Newtown, Pa. , had arrived with a group of high school students taking part in a weekend-long young leaders conference, which was to culminate with their attendance at the presidential swearing-in ceremony. Rizzo said his grandfather had seen John F. Kennedy's swearing-in in person nearly five decades ago and had felt the same excitement while attending an Obama campaign rally last year. "Seeing Barack Obama here will be something we'll never forget," Rizzo said. "In our classroom, there's a picture of all the presidents, and they're all old, white guys. In the future, kids in our shoes will see a different picture on the wall." Dude, the education system in this country is like totally shitty. The cool thing with coming back to a debate hours later is that ya can ignore all the responses to your previous points! Sorry, I scrolled through the comments quickly and missed yours. The key point, though, is that you could have a vast, permanent civilian force led by the President of the United States (and their loyalty would be more towards Barack, specifically, than it would another possible President) with little to no oversight taking their instructions from him. That worries me. Well, unless it's used for illegal purposes, there is no problem. There's nothing wrong with asking people to volunteer - let's just wait and see what form this takes. Here's the description from the L.A. Times article on this: "Organizers and even Republicans say the scope of this permanent campaign structure is unprecedented for a president. People familiar with the plan say Obama's team would use the network in part to pressure lawmakers -- particularly wavering Democrats -- to help him pass complex legislation on the economy, healthcare and energy." http://tinyurl.com/9s7vr2 That goes further than helping hurricane and earthquake victims get food and shelter and gets a lot closer to what I'm worried about. Actually, this is what I'm worried about. There's also the question as was raised above as to (whether this should be legal or not) it is legal with Obama at the head of it. If they're a charitable organization (at least as far as the IRS is concerned), they also can't legally get involved in political stuff. Posted by: AD at January 17, 2009 05:52 PM (sjcEM) 188

I became a republican when I was a freshman in '90-'91, when the school shut down to allow students to attend an anti-war protest in Chicago. The week before kids were hyping themselves up, talking loudly about blood for oil, and they all signed on with the anti-war thing. First, I barely slept cuz I watched on the news as Saddam blithely walked his piece of shit soviet era military into Kuwait, and allowed a bunch of attrocities, so that pissed me off. But mainly. My BROTHER (who I have MY problems with, but those are MINE!)was in the military at the time, and he was slated to go over there, and to hear a bunch of retarded fucking teenagers, who just spouted the same shit their retarded fucking parents spouted 20 years before drove me to a near rage. Five questions every GOP political strategist & K.Rove-type needs to be asking themselves:
(1) How much of the $825 billion stimulus package is going toward funding non-profit community organizing groups? It's quite easy to see an appropriation of $50-$100 M (pocket change at this point) or so over 4 years finding its way to this new Obama HopenChangeCorps. This is on top of all the desperate bailout-seeking lobbyist & corporate (is it too early to call them kickbacks?) contributions to the DNC and Obama-Biden 2012 campaign. (2) Is it legal for the government to sell its email lists to 501c3s and 501c4s? If so, does the Obama HopenChangeCorps email list equal the sum of the email lists of every executive dept and agency? If I signed up for email on whitehouse.gov for Bush, will I suddenly start getting HopenChangeCorps emails one day? (3) Who gets the consulting contracts for HopenChangeCorps? Axelrod and Plouffe? Is this just a giant Daley-esque patronage scheme? (4) Will there be a revolving door between the Census patronage program, HopenChangeCorps, and Obama-Biden 2012? Will HopenChangeCorps, in part, function as a four-year effort to transform the hispanic vote into an African-American-like 90%+ pro-democratic base vote for Obama in 2012? (5) What candidate do we have on our side capable of inspiring a broad-based counter-mobilization against HopenChangeCorps? Can we afford anything less than another Reagan simply to remain competitive? Posted by: Robert_Paulson at January 17, 2009 06:32 PM (Rmb4y) 211

Bigotry in general hurts the military, and I knew some DAMN FINE (not hot, but capable) Marines, who were gay. Of course taxpayers will be on the hook for this Perma-Campaign staff. In case you hadn't noticed, Obama doesn't spend his own money on anything. Take the $100K he earmarked for his staffer to build a park. No park, no money. Or Mrs. Grievance's 1/3rd of a million make-work hospital job on the Illinois' taxpayers. It was so vital and indispensible they're not even replacing her. Roland Burris should have asked Blago for that gig--it pays more than a senator and he could be home for dinner. or lunch. Or the way he let everybody pay for his campaign--everybody in the whole wide world, literally. No, he doesn't spend his own money. Speaking of FEMA, as Steyn just noted, his Inauguration has been pre-emptively declared a Federal Disaster Emergency...in order to qualify for a Bailout! This "EMERGENCY!" has been on the schedule since 1789 and specifically on Jan. 20th...for 75 years! How much lead-time does the government need for an "emergency" like this? A century? Three? You don't really think those douchenozzles are going to actually work do you? They're all gonna be waiting for management positions to open up. Hitting up a few people for votes, sending a couple of e-mails and calling talk shows to shout down the opposition is a far cry from actually going somewhere and doing something. The first time he calls out the masses and 27 people show up, that will be that. Eventually, the newspapers will realize that scandals will help their circulation and the bottom line. They'll start reporting again. Posted by: Steve L. at January 17, 2009 07:27 PM (gRA/m) 227
Well, not too much for me to add, except this: Anyone who thinks the One will not use this power is kidding themselves. He won't need to use violence, but he will find it useful to have the threat handy. "Want to vote, here, let us Obama volunteers drive you to the polling place. Now remember, you need to vote for the D candidate to keep your benefits coming." "Applying for a job? Let's see, did you sign up for the Obama corp? No? Well sorry, all positions filled." "Now, little Johnny, what did your Mom and Dad say about our glorious leader? Really, well, there are some nice people in the principals office you need to see right now." Where are we headed in four years? Think Venezuela, if we are very lucky. Also, I would expect the armed forces officers corps to be purged and replaced by true believers in the One. Goodbye Democracy, it was nice knowing you. On the other hand, there is this small bit of cynical wisdom to offer what cold comfort it may. A famous British statesman once said: "No democracy can survive as a permanent form of government. Democracy only survives until the people learn they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. After that, people always vote for more largess, with the inevitable result of economic collapse followed by dictatorship." Posted by: BattleofthePyramids at January 17, 2009 07:28 PM (n1s3m) 228
"No democracy can survive as a permanent form of government. Democracy

That's been running in the back of my mind since Reagan left office. Now it's moved to the front. Sure, we'll still have a democracy, but not in the sense that the huddled masses have any independence from the government and the freedom to exercise that independence. Freedom and democracy will be an illusion. Votes will be cast to replace one set of aristocracy by another, but the outcome of the act will become progressively superficial. Everyone will promise everything and deliver nothing. But it will be a "democracy." Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at January 17, 2009 07:40 PM (sI5Ho) 229
During the Canvassing runs, before the election I made a point of directly engaging the idealists.
And while it was totaly respectful on both our sides as we engaged in an honest debate about issues with the obamatons, it was quickly interrupted by one small skinny white man, and later by a large attempting at threatening black man. True story, the small white man said to the girls (they use women, particularly young women, for canvassing cuz women are inoffensive, and not at all intimidating or frightful) "He's hopeless." I responded, "I'm just trying." and he grabbed the girls by their arms and guided them away from me (I wouldn't say drag, he was just in charge, and they followed their leader) The second time, I went through the same thing, and this is almost verbatim. "Are you ready to vote for Obama?" Or register, I don't remember. "no, I'm not a socialist." And we had a conversation, no conflict, it was honest debate, this is with a young woman, and then the older woman (older than my mother) came up, and started to hard ass me with the "you want to deny people health care?" stuff. I accepted her initial harang, and then explained that, socialism ignores supply and demand. She said it was a non-sequitor (actually I think she said it was nonsencse) and I responded, that no, it's not. I Like the Cadillac CKS but I don't have one, cuz there aren't enough, she said something like "then make more of those cars" and I said, not everyone likes it, and I have to pay more cuz not everyone wants what I want. We had a nice and reasonable conversation. Then the rather large black man bumped me, I bumped him back, and he could have eaten my liver if he had a dull rock, but I wasn't gonna back down, so what he did? He DID grab the ladies (who were perfectly respectable to me) by the arms and lecture them about not wasting their times and he got QUITE loud in his verbal abuse of the ladies. Thats Feminism for you. They will sell out Women, they will sell out Idea's, they will sell out independance and comity in exchange for. . . . . .. What? 211 - Road King Here's the thing: If they really do go for a renewed AWB and try to ban private transfers of firearms, I think you won't really have to worry much more about cost. I know several people will want to get their own guns safe and in good hands, if only to piss off the grabbers. I may be one of them, for some of mine, anyway. #210, you have it right. I'm not as concerned about an SA/SS/private army (though I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand) but with trillions of dollars in "stimulus" money being thrown around it will be all too easy for a Dem congress to get a few billion (chump change now, ha!) to ACORN-type groups all over the country. It's less likely to be Nazi Germany than Chicago machine politics taking over they whole country. That might be even more insidious because a blatant power grab would at least wake up a few people. CAMPO CARABOBO, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Saturday Barack Obama
had the "stench" of his predecessor as U.S. president and was at risk
of being killed if he tries to change the American "empire."
"I hope I am wrong, but I believe Obama brings the same stench, to not say another word," Chavez said at a political rally on a historic Venezuelan battlefield. First the Iranians were burning pictures of Barry now his buddy Hugo is throwing insults at him. Where is all of the love Barry was supposed to generate around the world? Whether this comes to fruition or not doesn't negate the fact that it is very, very chilling. Very bad feeling here. This man is so dangerous.
I will give he & his people credit for one thing. They are massively organized. Militant in their application of such, as a matter of fact. We'd better follow suit with that organization or we're truly fucked. Even if the Obama-FEMA-BOTS don't actually get their pails out to scoop out water from the next hurricane-stricken area, they will be instructed to flood their representatives in DC, as well as radio stations & newspapers doing his bidding. What an incredible bunch of mindless robots. I wonder if the prospect of this massive community organization to be at the beck & call of The One makes Chris Matthews get such a tingle that he'll be left with a grin bigger than the Enzyte guy. ErikW: "I think this has the strong potential to be another of Obama's ideas that just fades away."
I hope that's right though I don't even like the idea being proposed because it could evolve into yet another program "for the children" or something worse and not just costly. The thing is that I don't think Obama is bright enough to think of this stuff on his own. He, the shell/vessel, remains the front man for the real movers and thinkers. They are the ones I really worry about. Obama's a spaghetti-throwing pitch man who reads flowery rhetoric to propose grand ideas. It's his handlers who evaluate what sticks well enough to the public fridge and what needs to cook longer. The likes of Rahm Emmanuel, Bill Ayers, George Soros, and David Axelrod are not ones to goosestep lightly. Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at January 17, 2009 09:08 PM (sI5Ho) 249

This has the easy aspects of creating a goon squad
There's a video on YouTube showing a (possibly alcohol-sodden) cretin who wore a McCain t-shirt to a Obama rally. The cops took him away to prevent a riot, but at one point the clip shows a wall of people - several dozen - screaming at the cretin. They were jumping up and down and thinking back on it, I'm wondering if this is the face of the new Obama Youth: flash mobs of 5-500, able to turn out quickly, intimidate, suppress, and otherwise make things turn out the way The One wishes them to work out. #248 -- somebody else wasn't exactly a titan of intellect, knowledge, or hard work, but really liked power, understood how other people liked them too (and a catchy speech and dramatic spectacles on occasion); that other somebody had plenty of go to types to do the planning and work And the go to types are easy to keep in line, when they realize all the bennies of the job...and the shit they'd be in if they didn't keep in line. Posted by: unknown jane at January 17, 2009 09:34 PM (wyaGP) 257
No doubt, unknown jane. We seem to have some of the same precursors though our economic crisis isn't quite there. However, with Emmanuel, would-be Chief of Staff, saying that crises are opportunities to make big changes, and the cult of personality that is The One, along with the militant Left protected by the legacy MSM/Dem house organ, there's a sense of foreboding that cannot be ignored.
The impossible happened once upon a time. The impossible will happen again. The fact that the begin with the presumption that no one ALREADY helps pisses me off enormously. People contribute to charities (from money they have worked to earn), raise children, take part in school activities, lead Brownie troops, volunteer at churches, and all manner of helpful activities. The presumption that everyone is selfish and doesn't already do this stuff is insulting. Particularly when it comes from someone like Obama, who thinks telling everyone else what to do is "serving." New jobs from Obomba.
Reinstating the military DRAFT is the most bizarre goal to be imposed by 1960-70's revolutionaries' now Washingtonians. Sending American troops to Afghanistan that produces more than 90 percent of the world's opium will bring worse results than Vietnam brought. Besides the terrain, aside from the terrorists, it will be the constant opium/heroin bombardment and implicit corruption and no means to "test clean" if you're living around poppy fields. Watch how the new CIA Chief maneuvers CIA drug trafficking and the Drug Czar handles the distribution/redistribution to compound the supply AND the demand. New jobs: street vendors wanted. Fight Global Warming. Bomb poppies. Do poppies re-seed themselves as wildflowers do to end up with the Sorcerer's Apprentice effect? The IT creative bean counters who get socialists elected use their databases to churn butter from statistics in order to sell The One message. Spread the butter. So. If these rumors are true, what we should be looking at in the first six months of the new administration is proposed legislation to control access to the internet.
