Shrieking Crybabies Calmed by Binky of Hope and Change

obamabinky.jpg

Europe loves us, so I guess life has meaning again.

As Micha Wyatt plans an inaugural bash at the Chicago Rib Shack in London, she is basking in the new warmth toward Americans overseas.

It's cool to be an American again, Wyatt said. "Finally! I'm tired of pretending I'm Canadian."

From Jakarta to Johannesburg, Americans who travel or live abroad are finding that instead of being scolded about the Iraq war, the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, or U.S. climate change policy, they are being hugged when strangers hear their accent.

"People would question me: 'Where are the weapons of mass destruction? What is America doing?' " said Wyatt, 38, a San Francisco native who said she does not align herself with any party but comes from a Republican family.

Since Barack Obama's election, she said, people want to hang out at American parties and talk about the latest news from Washington: "There is a buzz about America now."

(H/t: Hot Air)

We've been putting up with this new situational patriotism since just after the election, and every new example of it simply highlights the increasing toddler-ization of the left. When they don't get what they want, they throw epic temper tantrums.

Over the last eight years, George W. Bush and conservatives have been chided for a lack of nuance. We've been told we lack sophistication for believing there is good and there is evil, and that some evil cannot be understood or appeased but must be eradicated. Those same enlightened ones, however, cannot seem to grasp what many of us neanderthal conservatives have figured out - our sense of national identity is not dependent upon a need to agree or even like our political leaders.

I am an American regardless of who the president is, and that president is my president whether I voted for him or not. America is not a perfect country but it is a good one, and it does not lose that essential character when the party I did not support takes control of the government.

Maybe it's because I'm one of those simple-minded conservatives, but I simply cannot comprehend allowing the feelings of people I do not know determine whether or not I acknowledge that I was born and raised in the greatest damn country in the world. And being the obviously mindless 'jingoist' that I am, might as well go all the way and quote Ronald Reagan, because his view of America is also mine:

"And how stands the city on this winter night? More prosperous, more secure, and happier than it was 8 years ago. But more than that: After 200 years, two centuries, she still stands strong and true on the granite ridge, and her glow has held steady no matter what storm. And she's still a beacon, still a magnet for all who must have freedom, for all the pilgrims from all the lost places who are hurtling through the darkness, toward home."

Everything has changed because now The Deity is in charge of Gitmo, and the military in Iraq and Afghanistan. One does not question The Deity. Anything he touches is divine. Look, he's God, not you or me. If He permits us to be there, it must be part of His Divine Plan.

Another way to think of it is: 52% of The Nation Below Canada has decided to think like three year olds.

15 Rest assured, Europe will hate us again shortly.  I lived abroad for nearly half my life--none of it while Bush was President--and was despised as an American for a variety of reasons.  Bush just became the reason of the moment.  Essentially, they hate us for not being European.  They are "happy" due to Obama and accepting similar to how they felt after 9/11. Posted by: Dirk at January 16, 2009 03:14 PM (EiJuR)

22 The Democrats and the MSM (BIRM) throw epic tantrums because they have been proven to work. They have learned that by frustrating every effort by a Republican administration and blaming every problem on Republicans, they can convince the voters to put them back in power. And when they can't convince them, they cheat and lie themselves into power and suppress the evidence of their crimes from a public both ignorant and compliant by design.

Republicans, on the other hand, have proven that they are incapable of governing under the best of circumstances. Republicans rail against liberal institutions when they are campaigning, but when they achieve power they do not destroy those liberal institutions. Instead, they sabotage them. They cut back funding, and appoint boobs and cronies to staff and run them. The result is that we still have the liberal institutions, they are still costing us hundreds of billions of dollars, but they are incapable of accomplishing their mission. For this, the Republicans expect to be re-elected.

At least the Democrats, with the MSM behind them, can get things done. Perhaps we are better off as a country if the Democrats govern and the Republicans contribute useful suggestions from a powerless minority position. Short of an actual revolution that radically changes things, I'm not sure any other arrangement will work.

34 My BFF is Canadian and a huge Commie.  However, we get along fantastically by dint of mocking the hell of out each other's country.  Seriously, milk in bag, seriously?  It's even better since she is Native Canadian.  Thus she screams about oppression and I reference the stompy boots and it's all in good fun.  Why?  Because we're freaking adults.   Fine, she really hates Bush.  I really hate socialized medicine.  We disagree.  Grownups can do that and put it aside to focus on important things, such as Milla shooting people and Bruce Willis climbing on top of a car.

There have been a few occasions where people have made comments about evil fascists, not realizing that I am one of them.  I find this a lovely opportunity to point out that they're the ones being stereotypical, after all, they assumed I'm on the Left simply because I'm queer and a friend of the BFF.  This generally causes all kinds of spluttering and fantasticness.  Good times, good times.

Of course, now I do intend to start wearing one of my Reagan 80 shirts up there.  Just to point out that I may be an American but I'm not an Obamabot.

Canadian acquaintance of mine loves to go on and on about the failure of the Comprehensive Immigration POS... his premise being that it shows Americans are racist zenophobes.  I pointed out to him that my opposition is not based on race, but on respect for the law and not rewarding breaking it, and that in fact the thousands of people trying to get into this country really validates my high regard for it quite nicely, thankyou!

He claims Canadian immigration is so much more enlightened, but when I reminded him that in Canada you can jump to the front of the line by plopping down a cool $100K or so, he refuses to believe it, or to Google it, apparently!

And yes, I have suggested he consider returning to the People's Popsicle Paradise on several occasions!

"These people are liberal democrats first, last and foremost."

Bingo! Being liberal means more to them than being American. To them, nationality is just an accident of birth, but their ideology is what lies in their hearts. Well, with The One's election, their fellow liberals forgive them, and they can now be part of the Cool Kids club again.

As for us, we'll be flying our "DON'T TREAD ON ME!" flag on Tuesday. A fine, patriotic sentiment, I think.

Posted by: Brown Line at January 16, 2009 03:43 PM (VrNoa)

40 1) As far as a country being "cool" is concerned, the United States of America is the gold standard. If we do it, it's cool. That's why everyone wants in, and no one wants out, no matter how many liberals say they'll leave whenever it looks like a Republican might become president.

2) As far as weapons of mass destruction are concerned, all any foreigner needs to know about them are the two we dropped on Japan. If anyone wants to call "next," they're welcome to it. If anyone wants to try to fight off Germany by themselves next time (and those Germans just can't keep still), they're welcome to that, too. Otherwise, shut the fuck up and go back to watching American movies and American television shows.

41 I'm sorry for being OT, but I'm just amazed at what I'm hearing at HotAir's noon show. Ed Morrissey and Duane Patterson have just opined that they can't believe the numbers of conservatives who just want to "stick their heads in the sand," oppose Obama on everything, and criticize other conservatives. They don't want to see ODS on our side, the way BDS infects the left to this day.

Yeah, that constant opposition and BDS didn't work out so well for the leftards, did it?

42 Wonderful...  Tom Hanks on Proposition 8 supporters:

“The truth is this [show, "Big Love,"] takes place in Utah, the truth is these people are some bizarre offshoot of the Mormon Church, and the truth is a lot of Mormons gave a lot of money to the church to make Prop-8 happen,” he told Tarts. “There are a lot of people who feel that is un-American, and I am one of them. I do not like to see any discrimination codified on any piece of paper..."

Umm... what the hell does that first sentence mean?  Because Tom Hanks produces a fictional show about NON mormons practicing an illegal form of marriage it's somehow hypocritical of actual mormons to oppose gay marriage?  Seriously, wtf is he trying to say here?

But what really gets me is the "discrimination" statement.

Is Tom Hanks in favor of the flat-tax!?!?!

How about abolishing affirmative action?

What the hell is so hard to grasp about the concept that the law treats different activities differently?

True, George. And because it can take so long for policies to show results, the Dems can selectively take credit for good outcomes while blaming bad outcomes on the previous administration. E.g., if all this bailout money actually does turn the economy around in mid-2009, the Dems will take credit - after all, the economy recovered on Obama's watch! But if the outcome is bad, they'll blame it all on Bush, becaue after all, this all started on his watch. Bush gets the blame for the economic meltdown because it happened during his administration, even though the ultimate causes were put in place by Democrats under Democrats. (Bush did help make it worse, but also warned about the looming problems with Fanny and Freddie.) Bush gets the blame for 9/11 even though it was Clinton administration policies that virtually ensured it. It is so frustrating watching these theatrics and seeing an ignorant public swallow it whole.

I just love this. I travel to Europe several times a year for business. Every time I'm there, some idiot tries to lecture me about Guantanamo, Iraq, Kyoto, etc.

My response is usually about this: "Guantanamo: I agree. Shut it down. Take the inmates out back and shoot them".

Iraq: "No WMD? Really? Perhaps you should ask your own intelligence service why they fucked up".

Kyoto: "You're not doing dick, so why should we?"

Believe me, this works. They always expect us to be groveling for "forgiveness", but when we say "fuck off" they just don't know how to respond.

62 No offense to your friend, but irrationally hating someone (I'm going out on a limb here and assuming that even the stuff she should love Bush for, that drive a lot of us nuts, she doesn't) is not the same thing as hating a concept or idea that's been proven to be an epic failure everywhere it's been tried (even my Canadian friends will admit to this with enough liquor in them).

Nah, it's not irrational, I'm overstating a bit for effect.  She doesn't think he's Satan or anything, she's not a Kos Kid about it.  For example, she actually told someone at a gathering to stfu with the Bush bashing and not just because I was about to throw them down the stairs.  Like she says, if you hate everything, that takes away the credibility for the actual stuff you disagree with.

The truly hilarious thing is that she is adamantly anti-gun in reality.  Movie guns are fantastic, actual guns not so much.  And now a gun nut is her BFF.  She finds this is amusing as I do.

64 We're almost there! Once we see the apotheosis of Obama He will build Jerusalem on the Potomac and mankind will live in harmony forever! I wonder if He'll serve out his term in office or just be assumed into Heaven right on inauguration day.

Honestly, I'm trying to be a happy warrior and all that crapola but this worship of Obama is just fucking bizarre.   Can anyone think of a single Republican president who had been elevated to godhood before he was sworn in? The silver lining is that no man is a god - not even His Blessed Holiness - and a lot of people are going to be sorely disappointed when He falls back to Earth.

I tell you one thing: I'm not taking Tuesday off.  Fuck that, there won't be anyone there (they'll all be at home witnessing the Triumph of the One) so there won't be anybody there to piss me off.

65 You can find anti-American jokes and insults in 19th century novels. There are photos of anti-American demonstrators stomping around Paris five fucking minutes after WWII ended. Personally, I lived in Europe during the Clinton years. Plenty of irrational, inane anti-Americanism then. But you know, for some people, history just started 8 years ago.

Fellow Morons:

Please feel some sympathy for the naive dolts who fell for the tin Messiah. Watching the dew burn off their eyes in the next year or so when it finally dawns on them they've been snookered by a glib lawyer who is an incompetent and dithering executive, but excellent politician, will be priceless.

The idiots of the left will still hate the hyper-power, even though the "right" people are in charge now (you know, the ones whose "heart is in the right place" even if their head is up their ass).

Change you believed in, suckers.

American success is galling to those who believe themselves our intellectual and moral betters. It will be so forever. When I lived abroad W wasn't president, but certain people (socialists, particularly of the "misunderstood artist" variety) hated America and Americans.  They will fawn on Barry, but watch the expletives fly when he does anything in American self interest.

70 Hmm. Maybe I should learn French some time. This is how I read it:

Taisez-vous, cochon trés baveux.

Tase you, three-balled cockholster (clearly insulting his manhood here).

Oui, vous, salaud.

Yes, you, salad boy! (obviously a reference to the infamous arugula incident)

Vous pouvez baiser le cul, vous devez apprendre la caractère de la plupart des citoyens avant de juger vos voisins.

You baster of coal who would willingly go down on a clip-art character that drives a Citroen excessively fast while drinking Jagermeister and playng a violin! (I'm not entirely sure about that one).

Et votre femme? Elle peut se baiser, lui-même.

And the woman vote? It's all in how you baste them, dude!

73 As Micha Wyatt plans an inaugural bash at the Chicago Rib Shack in London, she is basking in the new warmth toward Americans overseas.

It's cool to be an American again, Wyatt said. "Finally! I'm tired of pretending I'm Canadian."

"I get obnoxiously drunk, I throw up on everybody, I start fights at a drop of a hat in European nightclubs, I have poor hygiene and poorer manners. But damn mate, the whole world loves me because I'm British! "

Her first name is Micha, that alone tells me she's one of those black turtleneck coke bottle glasses commies with the pseudo-Goth hairstyle dyed black. She doesn't shave her armpits and her hobbies are painting anti-American and anti-Israel signs for the daily protests.

No fucking way is Obama MY president.

No self-respecting Democratic Republic will give legitimacy to a socialist president, but then no self-respecting democratic Republic would permit someone like Obama to be a Senator, let alone Presidential candidate.

With everything we know about this nihilist cockholster; his terrorist friends, radical mentors, his corrupt political roots, you should realize what's being installed int the White House.

77 Don't know if this is still the case, but my husband was stationed in England in the USAF.
He raved so much about that damn Chicago Rib Shack that I looked it up on the internet once.
Lo and behold, the Chicago Rib Shack is (was?) owned by some shady-ass characters, and they support some real shitbirds.
So much so that the US State Dept at one time FORBID (don't know if it's still the case) US citizens to eat there and support them, because it violated the Trading with the Enemy Act, or whatever it's called.
I'm too irked to try to find the information again, and it was quite a while back, but it shouldn't be difficult to find.

I have lived overseas for twenty years. I rarely see anti-Americanism although everyone knows I am an American. I do not see it is because I unload with both barrels whenever somebody starts that crap with me.

Everything this person says about foreigners loving or hating America is baloney. I would bet that this person, if they really do venture outside the USA, practically begs for abuse for being an American. Their sentiment is "I hate America, so hate me for being American." Who would not oblige them? A characteristic of liberal thinking is the need to define everybody by the group they belong to. Their failure to take the time and see people as people means that they do not understand human nature, they can not reasonably relate to anyone different from themselves, and they wind up wrapped up in their little cocoon. The result is the traditional liberal, egotistical, narcistic, or in other words, an idiot on many different levels.

81 There are foreigners who will dump on you without provocation, if you let them.  The trick is not to let them.  For example, if they are French, you ask them if German is their native language.  "Non." "You're welcome."

With Germans, substitute Russian.

Use it now.  In a few short years, the question will be "Is your native language Arabic?"  "Yes." "Too bad."

82 There is a segment of American society which, sine causa, hates foreigners.  Some call them 'rednecks' which I, having 100% Appalachian heritage, take exception to.  The people in Europe and elsewhere who hate Americans just because, you know, they're Americans, are the equivalent of rednecks.

What these lefties are crooning about is they finally appeal to the rednecks of a society.  That doesn't seem very enlightened to me.

85 I'm an American, too, but if the Obama team shapes up anything like I think it will, the United States of America will be the next Soviet Union, complete with central planning, a one-party system, speech codes, secret police, etc. They're certainly going to hamstring what used to be the most powerful economy in the history of the planet. Today, the greatest economy is more controlled by the government than is the economy of Communist China.

Pardon me for spoiling the party, but I'm afraid Americans are going to have to get used to say that we once were the greatest nation on earth.

87 I'm sorry for being OT, but I'm just amazed at what I'm hearing at HotAir's noon show.

Neither did those young people who all made thatridiculous video from the 52 to the 48 (or whatever) about how they hoped we'd get along now, remember that?

Very convenient.

100 92: that's funny, because Czechs use the term "Neger" to mean precisely what an American might think it means. First word a lot of them say when they get off the boat, too: helps them feel better, to have somebody to look down on while they still haven't the foggiest what a Starbucks is. Just something I noticed about a lot of my fellow Czech immigrants...

Anyone that thinks racism is an American invention or fixation is screwed in the head. The Europeans wouldn't elect The One Dogcatcher.
