Bush Says Farewell

I have a lot of problems with the guy but I know I'm going to miss him pretty badly starting at about 12:01 PM next Tuesday.

To me, this is the quintessential Bush moment. The nation needed him to stand tall and defiantly to the fuckers who attacked us. Oh and he threw it right down the middle.

I'll take a guy who likes baseball over basketball any day.

Many things make this nation great. And, we enjoy greater wealth, even in the worst of times, than most other nations around the world. Given all that is right or wrong with this country right now, I'll take a determined man with faith in his convictions and a selfless defense of this nation over the finest economists and finest orators in the world.

It will take years for the temporary discomfort we feel now to shake loose and allow his real legacy, that of defending us and our country, to shine through.

Who gives a shit if there's a chicken in every pot when you're dodging IEDs, or worse, WMDs?

Funny you should say that because that's EXACTLY what Obama is going to do -- control the economy.

Only in a free-market capitalist system does a president have no control of the economy. We're halfway to socialism already; Obama is going to take us all the way there.

For the last 8 years George W. Bush has been the greatest hero in the world.  He has done everything in his power to keep us safe and crush those who wish to do us harm.

Gentlemen, THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.

We are surely going to miss having a morally aware president who understands that evil is evil and does not dismiss it as some abstract ideal.

Mr President, the people of Iraq, Afhganistan, Lebanon, Ukraine, Krygikistan, Israel, Africa, and especially the United States thank you.

For the past 8 years I have grown up from a high school student to a responsible (though AoS lifestyle) adult.  At no moment did I look up to anyone more than you.  You are the moral compass of America, Freedom's Champion and My Hero.

30 Heartily concur with some of the comments above, trolls notwithstanding.

After the second tower fell and the plane hit the Pentagon, I fully expected the Sears Tower and the Empire State Building to be hit.

7 years later, here we are. Iraq has been rescued and has a chance, Afghanistan has been liberated although the situation is somewhat tenuous.

Despite his squandering many opportunities, his lack of will to defend himself and his loyalty to those who have turned out to be gutless backstabbers, history will be kind to his presidency in the decades to come.

Hopefully we will survive the coming insanity. Fare the well George W. Bush, and thank you.

I question the timing.

Okay, with that out of the way, let me just say right now that I loved George W. Bush as President and admired him as a man. I don't give a shit about what lefties and 100% must have absolutely pure conservative righties have to say about the guy. He is a man. His immediate predecessor was an adolescent with the out-of-control hormones to match. If it weren't for a fawning press that would have given anything for a chance to give him a blowjob (rhetorical or otherwise), we could have an honest assessment about how 9/11 really came about. Bush's successor is a vacant-eyed affirmative-action cipher who will do or say anything, knowing that a worshipful press will make sure nobody asks him any tough questions.

In addition to his dogged determination (and success) to keep this nation safe, I admire that he does not seem to need everyone to think he is right. I know it maddens some that he has hardly ever vigorously defended himself or his policies, but it does show a sort of thick skin. The man can laugh at himself. You can see that he truly loves his wife, kids, and even his dog. He is loyal to a fault. He is a man that I would trust with my wife.

I will miss him because the world knew that with him at the helm, America was not a country to be messed with. I am an evangelical Christian, and as much of an optimist as I normally am. I have little hope that America will prosper under an Oboma administration of 4 or 8 years, and little confidence that America will respected (read: rightfully feared) by her enemies. I will not give up hope, because we did have Reagan after Carter. And I will still be a happy person who goes about his normal life.

Take care W. May God bless you, and may God bless America!

51 My favorite moment was the one in the ashes of the WTC when he grabbed that megaphone. But the first pitch was up there, too. HIstory will be much kinder to him that the assholes in the media have been--and much harder on the assholes in the media, who will be consigned to the dustbin with their socialist-communist heroes before them. I was so hoping Bush would tell the press on his last day that they should be ashamed of themselves and that they could to hell. But I knew he wouldn't do it. He's a good Christian, and a profoundly decent man--something these leftwing turds could never understand. He will be missed.

52 The refusal to defend himself may have been rooted in Jesus' admonition to "turn the other cheek."  Or maybe he never thought that it would actually undermine his authority and was content to be a punching bag as long as he got to fight the way in the way he felt was necessary.

I don't know, but I think it's clear that it hurt him.  I hope that future Republican presidents, religious or not, won't go that route again.  Just the thought of how emboldened it made worthless cocksuckers like Harry Reid still makes my blood boil.

I work for the State Health Department in the adopted home of VP-elect Neil Kinnock.  Through tomorrow, I pretty much have to hide in my office while everyone else in my section bitches and moans about Dubya (with Sarah Palin thrown in for good measure).  Aside from me, I think there are 1.5 conservatives in my office out of 20 people or so (one is whoever the guy is that switched the news channel in the conference room permanently to Fox News and the other is socially conservative but otherwise a total union loyalist on everything else).  We get MLK day off, so that is one less day of Dubya hate to put up with.  Then again, Tuesday I have to deal with one large collective O-gasm all day.

I think the first thing I'm going to ask on Wednesday morning will be "Where the f*** us my Skittles crapping unicorn?"

84 For about a 3 year period immediately prior to The Surge, the war in Iraq was leading nowhere fast and Bush allowed himself to be used as a punching bag by the Left and the Media without ever defending himself and calling out outfits like MS-Luna-C for their garbage.

I admire Bush a lot, but there is no way getting around the fact that 3 year period laid the foundation for what the next 4, maybe 8 years has in store for us all...

85 Unfortunately, while the concepts of "turn the other cheek" and "love your enemies" may be appropriate for personal conduct (I don't necessarily abide by them), they are not appropriate for political conduct.  In other words, unless you're ready to play for keeps, stay out of the fray, because you have a lot of stakeholders.

86 For the next 8 years, the Mainstream Media is going to run magazine cover after magazine cover trying to convince us Michelle is the "new Jackie Kennedy."

Good luck with that..

I remember Vogue had a photo shoot with Hillery when Bill won the first time around and the none stop comparisons to Jackie almost made me puke.

It's like wondering why the Democrats want America to fail and be defeated just for political gain.

96 Will there be an attack on America during Obama's tenure?

Well... let's do the math:

1. Leona Panetta, political hack with no Intelligence experience Head of the CIA.

2. Gitmo closed, and the prisoners either shipped overseas or - just as likely - either put in our prison system to recruit American terrorists... or simply allowed out to roam our streets at will.

3. Obama cares more about ditching Don't Ask, Don't Tell than he is that 10 percent of the military might well walk out on him if he does that.

4. The same Clinton Crew that thought the embassy bombings, the USS Cole bombing, and the first attack on the World Trade Center was No Big Deal - just a law enforcement issue.

5. Obama thinks surveillance of terrorists is more dangerous than the terrorists.

What does all this add up to?

Stock up on water and canned food. Get a gun. Target practice. Often.

100 A man of principles and courage with humility thrown in for good measure when so few if any of our elected officials have any of these qualities. He always wore his suit jacket in the Oval office...his way to show respect for the office.  He never sullied the presidency like so many before him and so many after him will do if given the chance.  He could infuriate me and inspire me but I always knew his word was his bond.  He meant what he said and would defend this country to the death.  I can never thank him enough.

What I like most about Bush:

He didn't give a shit what his critics said.  He did what he thought was right, and he didn't care how much wailing and gnashing of teeth it caused.

And we've never heard him whine or complain about criticism or unfair treatment (of which he had more than most).  Not once.

We hear a lot about how what people want is a president with conviction, who governs by his beliefs instead of polls and public opinion.  And then when we get one, it's "Waaaaaaaah, why won't he listen to us?"

He's worth more than all of his critics put together.

I miss President Bush already.  When he leaves so does my country, I'm afraid.  I'm as free today as I ever will be again, thanks to George W. Bush, and Obama will begin his assault on those freedoms starting Tuesday afternoon.

(And you gotta love how a lib can't go a whole blog post without stepping all over the dick of his own fed-to-him-by-his-handlers argument.  Bush "bankrupted" the nation, doncha know, but thank God we elected a new guy who has already promised to triple the federal deficit and spend freshly minted greenbacks on make-work bullshit and patronage kickbacks).

143 It honestly makes me happy to read that people are sad this guy is leaving office. You people really do deserve every drop of misery you feel. Barack Obama inherits a country in so much worse shape than Bush did that to even compare their first terms will be ridiculous. Bush inherited a peaceful, wealthy, respected nation and by the end of his first term, after an unprecedented outpouring of sympathy and affection in the wake of 9/11, turned it into easily the most hated country since Nazi Germany. Fuck this man. I hope he rots in hell with a hot dick far up his ass.

And I do blame him for 9/11. Not because I think he was behind it, but because it happened on his watch. If anything the scale of Sept. 11th would have happened on Clinton's watch, all you W. poleriders would do the same thing.

And I blame him for Katrina. He let a great American city drown because black people live there. His recent comments about how he should be PRAISED for not coming to New Orlean's rescue personally because the police would have to tend to him are about the most asinine thing ever to come out of his mouth. And that's saying a lot.

Ah, another academic type (and believe me, I've run into my share of them) who believes that any advancement in the life sciences is solely dependent on dumping the equivalent of the NIH's current budget into funding embryonic stem cell research even more.

/Note to liberal science academics - Messiah isn't going to request doubling anybody's science budget, especially now, and hell will freeze over when the Democrat congress chooses science funding over social spending.  Messiah isn't stupid, he knows that he has you guys already in his pocket because of your slavish worship of liberalism.

And let's be honest, New Orleans, particularly the effected part, was never "great."  They're best known for Mardi Gras-a festival celebrating sin in all its forms before pretending to behave during Lent.  And voodoo.

Which brings me to the fun fact you are likely to be beaten with repeatedly during the Obama occupation of the White House:  No government can protect you from an act of God.  There's a reason insurance companies won't cover that sort of situation.  Barry won't protect you from Islam and he won't protect you from the typical criminal Democrat voter.  I don't know how you'll sleep, as perpetually unsafe as you will be.

Oh, I know.  Scurry back to bed.  Mommy misses you.

Bush inherited a peaceful, wealthy, respected nation blah blah blah what my sociology TA told me so it must be true blah blah blah

Wow, it's like a tommy-gun of talking points from our "independent" friend Nick.  The bot-fu is strong in this one.

Lemme help you out retard.  Any nation can pretend to have "peace" if it simply ignores the enemies that keep attacking it again, and again, and again.  Like President Hillbilly in the 90s.  And how the ass of that dot-com bubble burst in the "new economy" taste, butternipples?  Too young to remember?  And I, like most self-respecting, honest-to-god Americans, don't give a flying fuck what our inferiors in the rest of the world think of us.  They can shove their worthless opinions up their only-exist-as-economic-and-military-welfare-clients-of-America asses.

And I do blame him for 9/11. Not because I think he was behind it, but because it happened on his watch.

Shocking.  For consistency's sake, of course, you'll blame Barry O'Jesus for the double-digit inflation he's flat-out promising to deliver over the next four years, right?  Right?  And you similarly credit Bush for the fact that no attacks beyond 9/11 have occurred on his watch, a feat that was considered impossible by just about everyone in the wake of that attack?

And I blame him for Katrina. He let a great American city drown because black people live there.

Go fuck yourself.  First of all, Kanye, New Orleans is a third-world shithole filled with parasitic dumbasses that would suffocate without a government program moving their lungs in and out for them.  It's the poster child of what happens when you let corrupt imbeciles with "progressive" ideas run the whole show for decades.

And Bush didn't corral people into the Deathdome to wait for busses that were left to drown.  Mayor Chocolate City Nagin did that.  And the stupid fucks living there re-elected the baboon.  "Great city" indeed.

But they do throw a pretty good party once a year, so I guess compared to the other urban hellholes in this country that have been driven into oblivion by Democrat monopolies, it's a "great city".

And go fuck yourself.

George W. Bush is a good man, perhaps too nice a guy. His Compassionate Conservative stance may have been his undoing, but he did it from the heart. Dear God, I think I am going to miss him more than I missed Ronald Reagan, mostly because Reagan's terms took place when I was in high school and beer drinking single life, and didn't know better.

I'm also going to miss Dick Cheney, my home boy, who spoke at my graduation in Cody Wyoming in 1984 when he was a Congressman. I've admired him throughout his career. He was the best right hand man Mr. Bush could have had.

We felt your pain, we rushed to your aid, and you flew our flag.  Oh gosh that was soooo special, once in how many years?  But then within a few months, the turds you coddle there in your industrial media turd farms were right back at crapping on America, weren' t they?

If you don't like being addressed along with shit, then step away from the shit!  Seriously, try it!  You seem to think that you embody America when you are hurting... but then when your diseased filth starts hurting America (again) you don't think you are part of the problem.  Kiss my ass.

217 Hell, even if the GOP had won I'd be missing Bush.

I wouldn't let Nick get to you.  He doesn't realize that he's proving my point.  No one cares about Obama, and Obama has inspired nothing.  It was always about this moment of laughing about how the GOP finally lost an election.  No plan of action going forward... all those promises of specific changes Obama was going to bring are now being forgotten, and no one cares because we all knew Bush was right all along about foreign policy, and we all knew Obama was just as wrong as Bush on domestic stuff.

Nick wants to laugh and be insulting because that's his entire argument.  "Fuck you" is as far as it gets for him.

Obama isn't ready to lead, and it's already obvious by the endless screw ups.  Bush has done well ensuring a smooth transition, but Obama's side has already been a mess.  Bush can't help Obama for long.  I would bet my lunch money that Obama calls Bush and asks Bush for confidential leadership within the next six weeks.  Bush will oblige his foe, because he's not an asshole.

While he had his failings, Bush took the fight to them.

After 911 he recognized that Saddam was someone who would happily hand off a pound or two of weaponized antrhax to Osama, and Bush acted.  Clinton dithered (example: Somalia) but Bush acted (Afghanistan and Iraq).  That's what drives the Nicks of the world crazy is a decisive president who acts with the US interests first.

The result is that we took the fight to the enemy and we bled them white.  Our soldiers (marines, airmen, etc.) met them on their home turf and obliterated them.  When the day was darkest; when all were telling him to cut and run, Bush doubled down and won.  Do you hear that Nick?  Bush won.  Choke on it you pathetic Obama cocksucker.

Was it free? Of course not.  We lost 4,800 of the best, but Al Queda lost ten times that many.  We also crushed their safe havens and client states.  Daily our valliant soldiers patrolled their streets while they slink away and hide in some fetid basement.  Our dilligent computers and databases pick them out of their hidy holes for our ever vigilant troops too scoop up and waterboard.  Daily, our flying, killer robots stalk them from the skys, offering them no rest and slaying them with Hellfires should they try to plant their worthless IEDs.  To paraphrase Inigo Montoya, they keep using those words "safe house" I do not think that means what they think it means.

Bush had his failings, but in the arena of war, he is Reganesque.  History will treat him kindly because he was right.  You got that Nick?  Bush, in taking the fight to our enemies, was right.

I'm happy to see Mr. Bush go.  Why?  Because he's a very decent man who has suffered the worst public abuse in my life time, but always remained civil and deeply focused on the security of the country over a span of eight years.   He's done his time standing on the wall, getting up every morning to intelligence briefings which would make most of us soil our pants.  Time for someone else to do this stuff.

I hope he goes down to Texas, stays active and engaged, and enjoys his time with Laura and his family.

Things we won't see from this ex-president:  running around with young ladies, carping at the policies of the current president, or self-promoting himself.   Perhaps he could spend some time with Jimmy Carter, and show him how to put up some sheet rock that will last for more than a few months.

Palin and Bush and Repubs in general will continue to a late night comedy staple. Being out of office will mean nothing. The comedy shows' writers are not known for originality, only endless repetition of the same theme (Bush/stupid, Palin/clueless, McCain/old, etc.)

You can say you read it here first, and that you knew me back when.

I completely agree. I'd be surprized if the lame asses aren't still doing Dan Quayle jokes.

From Slime Magazine:

President George W. Bush said farewell to the nation, but the nation wasn't paying attention. TV barely cut to him in time for his first words Thursday evening and couldn't wait to cut away when he finished 13 minutes later. Something unexpected and awesome had happened to shoulder him out of the picture: a jet gliding to a stop in the middle of the Hudson River, with everyone emerging safe. The departure of President Bush, by contrast, had become part of the world's mental wallpaper some time ago.

The departure of Slime Magazine is already a part of my mental wallpaper.

Posted by: TheQuietMan at January 16, 2009 09:15 AM (1Jaio)

238

BTW, Slime Magazine is running an online poll asking if George Bush was the worst president in history.

I wonder if they ran a similiar poll as Slick or Jimmah (not online of course) left office?

239

What the fuck is the matter with you people?Yea,Bush was'nt the worse President ever ,but the man destroyed his own political party all in the name of compassionate conservatism, turn the other cheek bullshit.

And all this bullshit about he kept the country safe for the last eight years?Just how many freedoms are you people willing to give up so you can feel safe?Well maybe we have'nt been attacked by towelheads, but open your fucking eyes. Can't you see the danger we are in because of this asshats policies.

Our economy is on the brink of disaster. And yes,I know that democrats are partly(hell mostly) responsible, but thats not the perception of everyday people.Hell most Americans don't even know about the CRA because this motherfucker does'nt want to fight for us,the dumb fucks who put him (yes,I voted for him, twice) in office. All because of this new tone bullshit he brought with him.The problem with that was that the fucking Dems said,no thanks,we'll play the game the way we always do.Lie,Lie,Lie,and not once did he respond to those lies.Fuck him,and good riddance.

Posted by: vae victus at January 16, 2009 09:26 AM (oi4Yx)

240 vae victus you didn't think he destroyed the party when we won more seats in 2004 contrary to historical trends.  You didn't think Reagan destroyed the party when he lost all those seats during his administration.  You are propably also one of those guys who can enter into a conversation in how liberal bias is in all the mainstream communications from news to hollywood and then enter into another conversation in how Bush failed to communicate his message without missing a beat. Kudos.

241 Farewell GWB. You are probably the worst manager I've ever seen. You lied to us time and time again.

You have delivered Iraq to Iran. Something Iran tried and tried, but failed and failed at.

You were put in a very tough position on 9/11 and instead of dealing with the problem you made it an ideological war.

You got every break dreamed of by presidents from the press after 9/11 and you abused it to no end, so they turned on you. They actually covered up the fact that you were suppressing information about Iraq for years. No recent president has had that luxury.

In the end, I wouldn't want you managing a sub shop, never mind any company.

243 237: What a class act Slime Magazine is, huh? TV "couldn't wait" to cut away, they say?

I can understand that. The sheer decency, maturity, and gravitas of the man was on clear display. Journalists no doubt felt something they long hoped was supplanted by the tingling feeling in their panties: shame.

Better to cut away quick, to a nice "important" pic of Bambi's scrawny little boy-boobies.

As far as 2004 goes, did we really have a choice but to vote for this piece of shit? You do remember the fucking idiot he ran against don't you?Hell, the Dems could'nt even convince enough of the retards who vote for them to vote for that joke of a candidate. But in your little fantasy land it was because of Bush that we gained a few seats?

252 The possiblity of being thrown in jail indefinitely without any charges being filed and without being told is a huge right to give up in my book. Some people don't feel that right is legally protected and I get that.

Pathetic, man.  Look at yourself.  All you have is you hate.  Hope it keeps you warm at night and safe for the next four years...while Obama is continuing all of Bush's policies because...umm..BUSH WAS RIGHT.

As far as freedoms that we have lost. Are you people too stupid to realise whats happening right now?We are basically being sold into slavery for the foreseeble future to bailout a bunch of fucking scumbags that got us into this mess in the first place.Do you not realise what socialism does to a country? And this asshat that is in office right now started the ball rolling. It also gave cover to theOne to continue these policies.Go ahead stick your heads in the sand.Nothing to see here. After the government owns everything try competing against them. But no,we have'nt given up anything, nope nothing at all.

I agree about baseball v. basketball. I have despised basketball since I was 12 years old. I'm not a sports person, but baseball seems elegant and wholesome (I'm talking the sport, not the MLB sideshow). Basketball is nothing but squeaky shoes and shouting and it doesn't last forever but it feels like eternity because it sucks.

So President Bush totally has that over P-E O!.

Posted by: Ella at January 16, 2009 11:02 AM (jeP9I)

260 And this asshat that is in office right now started the ball rolling.

Wrong again; the ball started rolling a long time pre-Bush.  If you don't know that, you're either seriously stupid or just trying to bash Bush for some other reason.  And you still haven't identified a "freedom" that's been given up, despite calling everybody stupid for not recognizing your brilliance.

Posted by: Captain Hate at January 16, 2009 11:03 AM (ZW5eD)

If you're whining and getting your panties in a knot about all the rights and freedoms that Bush has allegedly taken from us or otherwise trampled on . . . you MIGHT be a mincing, small-dicked, Obama-butt-sniffing, typical left-wing nancy boy.

In fact, I'm sure you are.

"Bush has taken away our freedoms" is complete fiction.  Utter bullshit, like so much of the BDS frenzy of the last 8 years.

Let's see--he's turning the office over to a member of the opposing party after enduring widespread and unprecedented criticism and abuse.  Yeah, some tyrant.

You're fucking deranged.  Now go generate some Obama fantasies, like "He's making the lame walk" or something equally laughable.

God, I'm so sick of hearing this nonsense spewed everywhere as if it had any basis in reality.

Captain, how far back do you want to go20's,30's,40's?yes we have been heading down this road for a while now,but Bush opened the floodgates.Clinton tried it but was shot down because we actually were the opposition party back then.We used to be the party of small govt. and personal responsibility. Now,after 8 years of GWB,we are neither.

Sorry, but I'm not going to enumerate the freedoms you lose under a socialist government. If you can't figure that out on your own it would be a waste of time for me to point them out.

264 252: That possibility ALWAYS exists for POWs, particularly
illegal combatants who's stock in trade are atrocities against unarmed civilians. Try to remember that's who the folks in Gitmo are. As a matter of fact, over 60 - it was reported yesterday - were NOT held "indefinitely," but releases... only to be picked up fighting yet AGAIN later on.

When people like you demanded their release, you became complicit in the fate of their future victims.

265 Ok vv, now I see where you're coming from and don't necessarily disagree with most of what you're saying in that I wasn't happy with a lot of things Bush did in terms of not standing up against gvt spending.  Still on the whole I think he did an ok job; much better than what we're in for.

Posted by: Captain Hate at January 16, 2009 11:34 AM (ZW5eD)

266 263: EXACTLY!

Not a ONE Democrat politician voiced concern over squeezing terrorists for info right after 9/11, when they feared that their own ass was on the line in a very real, personal way. Not a one objected to wiretapping, when it appeared more attacks were imminent.

As Democrats traditionally do, going back to Lincoln's day, is take political advantage of unpopular conflicts - as most inevitably become.

Hypocrites.

268 One final item on the growth of government under Bush:  Government grew under Reagan (granted a lot of it was a necessary growth in military expenditures, but that wasn't all of it by any means) despite ;his status as a conservative icon.  It's almost impossible for any president to deal with this completely effectively.

I agree, but it seemed Bush was halfhearted about it,especially when compared to something he really seemed to care about ,like say, immigration.I know I come off as an ass when I talk about Bush, but I spent a lot of "political capital"with my friends in regards to defending his policies.I would have loved to see him attack liberals just once like he attacked conservatives during the immigration debate.
