| Conservative Writers, and David Brooks, Meet With Obama for Dinner, DetenteDavid Brooks, George Will, and Bill Kristol. Whether David Brooks is even a bit conservative at this point is questionable. I doubt it means anything. Obama wants to make a show of his "post-partisan" politics of Hope and Change, that he's "reaching out" and blah bah blah, and the other guys want to meet with the president-elect. Who wouldn't? I wouldn't turn down a chance to meet with a president-elect. Despite speculation, Limbaugh wasn't there. He was in DC to meet with Bush.Comments1

I wouldn't turn down a chance to meet with a president-elect. And the difference is that you'd ask that president-elect about illegal election activities, Bill Ayers, putting bipartisanship to the test and ask him to praise Bush and McCain/Palin, etc. and not give him a blowjob or a HAndjob; and you would report on the discussion so that it wouldn't just turn into a (phoney) bipartisan photo-op of Obama reaching across the aisle as it would be reported in the MSM. George Will is the Dem/media's perfect idea of a conservative. "Oh, look how clean and well-spoken he is! Of course, his ideas are crazy, but he's certainly presentable as a token."
He's the housebroken conservative, perfectly content as a political minority, willing to speak on command for the elite opinion-makers. Apparently, the others in attendance are the same. Bah. According to Drudge, Peggy Noonan was there, too. So now these lap dogs get the payoff for their months of servile fawning. I'm sure there was much jolly laughter at Sarah Palin's expense--and sophisticated talk that simple folk like us could never understand. Posted by: tsj017 at January 14, 2009 02:02 PM (TBwnU) 22

The problem with this sort of thing is that it's journalistic pay-for-play.
Say something nice about a politician, get access; say something mean, lose access. I can be proven wrong. Let's see if any of these conservatives say something along the lines of, "while a nice guy in person, he has the economic acumen of a college freshman". What's the first piece of shit pork-laden legislation Obama is going to sign? The SCHIP scam.
If he is planning on signing an “extension” of the current program SCHIP which expires in March first congress will have to redo the legislation. Bush vetoed the version with the “illegal alien” provisions and signed a different bill that extended the existing program till March. The Vomit, even though he has been touted as a god, can not sign a bill that has been previously vetoed unless it gets passed again. Posted by: Vic at January 14, 2009 02:05 PM (f6os6) 26

Kudlow: He's so smart.......He's so impressive......He has such a command of the issues......He's so smart.......I'm in awe of great power.......and wit......and humor........and ability to create unicorns. He said one would be waiting for me at home after dinner.....and a yard full of rainbows since I couldn't eat in the presence of such awesomeness and power and greatness. Food? They had food? I just couldn't eat since I was in such awe as he created a unicorn out of wine for Peggy. I still wonder why KP didn't make it. Sure we have issues but he's going to make it better for everybody.

This is nothing more than a tactic Obama has used as early as his days at the Harvard Law Review.
http://tinyurl.com/8fsgra But his actual record that has impact rather than just talk is that of a doctrinaire liberal. He has a long history of "listening" to his opponents and then doing what he feels no matter what. And he won't reach out more than this - he has a history in Illinois of only working with Republicans and right-of-center types when they come to him, not the other way around. If he can avoid it, he'll freeze them out before truly bringing them onboard. I for one hope he takes their suggestions and implements their ideas on a substantive basis, but until I actually see proposed legislation that actually has teeth rather than this symbolism I'll reserve judgement. Bottom line - deeds, not words. Posted by: FCCS(SW/AW) J at January 14, 2009 02:34 PM (1Mn8Z) 56

What this really demonstrates is the pathology of Obama. As someone with serious daddy issues, he has a desperate need to be liked by elitists. He cannot stand criticism that he cannot dismiss either as right-wing or the rich or some other marginalized group. (cf. Bill Clinton)
Policies aside, the difference between Bush and Obama are night and day. Bush was able to shrug off criticism even when it was unwise to do so. Obama has a very thin skin and will bark back at anyone who shows him even the slightest lack of awe. (cf. Maureen Dowd and the "ears" comment) Journalists don't like being dissed.
